This little gem of the sea and Leigh has sadly now closed its doors. It has been the top No 1 for many years, everyone that visited will know just too well why! I like to thank Maria, Norberto, Igor, Erika and all the staff at Perola for the countless memorable evenings we had here, the family and birthday celebrations, special occasions, or just the "let's have a great night out!" meals. It has been a privilege to become a part of the Perola family. THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL TIMES, YOU ENRICHED OUR LIFE'S!

I have eaten here a few times now and I can honestly say its my new favourite restaurant, The owner is very welcoming great customer service and the food is absolutely amazing couldnt ask for any better. Great atmosphere to this little restaurant.

I went on Sunday with 5 other friends to celebrate a birthday. It was our first time there & it was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant owner was fabulous; extremely welcoming & informative & the attention he gave to all his guests was incredible. His wife is the chef & she can certainly cook! Called in by chance in the hope that there would be a table free prior to going to the cinema, and the gentleman was very accommodating. What a brilliant little find, I didn't even know about this little restaurant, it was my partner who found it. The food was delicious, freshly cooked. Portions were very sizeable, in fact I felt rather full such that I had to skip a desert. We will have to come again and will likely book next time. Thank you for a very enjoyable meal.

We went for a family meal yesterday and absolutely 💯 loved the food. The owner was really helpful on recommending dishes and really enjoyed chatting to him. We will be going back again as this is very authentic Portuguese food and I need to try more dishes from the menu. If you like this type of food this is a must

I've lived in the area for 8 years and only just found out about this place. Had the calamari strips and the Swordfish and all I can say is the food was excellent. Friendly staff, more than happy to discuss the food and answer any questions, (the recommendation of chilli in the perola sauce is a winner), relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again. Well done to all involved.

Small, delightful Madeiran/ Portuguese restaurant run by the charming Norberto and his wife. Lovely food with a good choice of vegetarian options. The flaming chorizo starter at the table, was not only a spectacle, but also very tasty, according to my daughter. Advisable to book ahead.

Little gem of a place with tasty home cooked food with vegetarian options and some fine wines. Very pleasant and accommodating. A taste of Portugal in Leigh. We had dinner before watching a game at the Sports Village, a great day out.

Excellent food and service, the owner talks you through the food, is amazingly accommodating and stayed late as we were stuck in traffic and therefore arrived late, thank you for a great evening

Dined in for first time having had numerous take away meals. Informal atmosphere, good food, pleasant efficient service - what more could one ask? Well - diners should check that they shut the outer door to the toilets on their way in and out!!!

Not alot of good places to eat in Leigh so this was an absolutely amazing find been recommending to everyone since last night!I had the onion soup which was absolutely amazing best onion soup I have ever had , to the point I'm trying to recreate it at home then had the sirloin steak with garlic sauce amazing! Husband had the king prawns which he loved! And then the peri peri chicken which he quickly finished off saying the hot sauce was outstanding and then shared the garlic bread which had the perfect amount of garlic, we will definitely be back!

What a hidden gem! The food is fresh, delicious, and cooked to perfection. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The desserts are to die for! We will definitely be frequent visitors here!

Excellent food and service as always

This was my first visit to this wonderful little restaurant and could not fault it in the slightest. The food was absolutely outstanding and with so much selection! Such a quaint little place with no more than 8 tables which made for a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the owner is so attentive and personable, even making wine recommendations which were spot on. Definitely will be back to this rare gem in leigh.

It was a quick break but had enough time to have a chat with Mr. Norberto which is the property owner and he has recommended my meal and it was delicious, honestly I always doubt about people's opinion but I have to say it was spot on. Thank you very much for the time and company. Will come back soon.

Exceptional authentic Portuguese meal. Our whole family really enjoyed this amazing meal. Our kids (8,4) loved the clams, squid and olives starters and their Spaghetti Bolognese was incredible! We shared a very generous Catapalana which we just amazing! A beautiful mix of fish, prawns, clams and vegetables. Wanted down with Super Bock, vinho verde and Caipirinha The staff are friendly and enthusiastic about their food. The made you feel very welcome but stuck to the current restrictions. The restaurant was very clean Can't wait to return!!

Went for the first time last night, intimate and cosy and super-attentive family staff. I have a new friend in owner Jaio,(hope that's the correct spelling), thanks for the spicy rose sauce, which he kindly made a batch of there and then, and disclosed his secret ingredient, slug of brandy. Discussed using it to make prawn cocktail on wholemeal toast with extra mature melted cheddar on top. So much so had it as a light lunch today, formidable! Will be back again very soon...

Great little place to eat, three course meal, jug of sangria and a coke each came to £40 per person which is very reasonable considering how delicious the meal was. Highly recommend the king prawns they are fresh and the sauce is beautiful. We have been here previously and the cocktails are also very good. The service is very good both waiters are attentive and friendly without being intrusive. I would recommend a visit.

Our 1st visit to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary & we were not disappointed. Its only a small place but the food is superb. Great friendly staff & probably the nicest bottle of Red Wine I've ever had. So impressed we've rebooked for Christmas Eve. Thoroughly recommended.

Living in a town, where the big retailers are moving to bigger premises in out of town retail Parks, local business closing down due to higher rates, higher overheads, less people around etc etc, it gives us hope that the few local business left can thrive and actually offer something that makes you think OMG how do people not know about this one particular place. PEROLA DO MAR is one such place, this family own Portuguese restaurant is in Leigh Wigan, and to be honest I only found this place by searching for restaurant’s slightly out of the area I lived, and all that I can say is WOW. Perola Do Mar is a gem and without a doubt is one of best places my wife & I have been to in well over of year, even outshining all those fancy places that have all showbiz glamour and décor and charge you an absolute fortune for a ok meal. On entering Perola Do Mar, we were greeted with a warm, smiling friendly owner and for me that speaks volumes and straight away you get that feeling that this is a really good place. There aren’t many tables and so glad we booked in advance as a family of 4 who came in without booking where turned away. The décor is very simple but perfect. When we arrived, we were the 1st there as they had just opened for their dinner service. The owner was very attentive and checked if you had been before as they advised us how the menu works. The owner even put the music on, nice and low, enough to talk to my wife, without anyone else hearing, the owner even lowered the lighting to make the mood more romantic, very nice touch….just adding to the whole class of the place and the owners who run it. Of course, the main thing is the meal itself, well its all cooked from scratch and is simple heavenly exquisite, cooked to complete perfection and although it may not seem much the portions make you completely full. One of owners the chef, even on occasions kept coming out of the kitchen to check on different tables everyone was happy, that in my eyes is brilliant attention to detail and completely believes in the meal he cooked for diners. The menu has so many options you will have trouble choosing, and there’s no pressure whatsoever in choosing, but my advice, don’t look at the menu in advance as you will defiantly change your mind again ha ha Perola Do Mar is a place for romantic couples or a family, it has something from babies to the fussy of eaters. The meal was pure melt in the mouth food, delicious, the main course, the vegetables it was all 100% al Dente. The owners kept checking everything was fine and even offered suggestions on different things. Without a shadow of a doubt this will be a regular restaurant to visit, from entrance to leaving the while experience was nothing less than perfect. This is completely a restaurant worth travelling to, as some other fellow diners came from St Helens, and for that speaks volumes on just how amazing this restaurant is, a pure delight

Nonostante sia molto piccolo e dall'estero non attiri troppo l'attenzione devo dire che è stata una piacevole sorpresa. Il mobilio dell' IKEA e le foto di Madeira alle pareti fanno da cornice ad una cucina casalinga e genuina. A conduzione familiare la cuoca è la moglie ed il cameriere il marito. Gentile ed accogliente alla fine della ottima cena ci ha offerto il liquore tipico della sua terra, tutto un dettaglio. Attenzione all'orario, alle 21,00 chiude !!! Our 2nd time here and we were not disappointed. There is a reason why this place is listed as #1 in Leigh on TripAdvisor. The food is great and fresh. Beef cooked to order and nice selection of sea food. Very good Sangria and delicious deserts including homemade ice cream. This is a family owned and operated restaurant and you can see this is the great quality of food and attentive and informative service. Here you not only eat Madeiran food but you can also learn about it if you want to. This is a great place to visit for a family and friends meal. Top marks to the owners. We certainly will be back.

Tasty and varied Portuguese food in a relaxed, simple place Family Run Portuguese (Madeira Island) restaurant. Staff look after you and make you feel very welcome. I honestly was pleased with the quality of the food, huge size of the portions and reasonable prices . I never had a espetada (Madeira style skewers) as good as this outside the island! They do not add rock/coarse sea salt to the skewers as madeiran do, but I honestly prefer less salty (Portuguese food is salty pretty much across the board. Definitely a problem if you're watching your sodium intake). We definitely gonna come back and recommend for friends. What a fantastic and lovely experience we had. Lovely Sangrias!!! I would recommend a booking in advance if you want to be guaranteed a table.

Was told about this place by a friend, good job because I would not have come across it otherwise due to the location. I am so glad they did because the food is fantastic. The staff were pleasant and helpful and happy to go through all the various items on the menu. I can't wait to go back and work my way through the menu, there is something to suit any taste, my wife won't eat as much of a variety of dishes as myself but was still spoilt for choice, you need to try.

We had read all of the previous reviews, and came with high expectations. I am delighted to be able to say these were met and excelled. A fabulous little family run restaurant. Hospitality and welcome is second to none. Our food was superb, quality fish, Black Scabard was excellent as was the Swordfish. All served with the wonderful house special sauce. A fabulous range of dishes to choose from, meat or fish. Such a friendly atmosphere and excellent service. Will definitely be returning soon with friends. Thank you for a memorable meal. What an amazing experience. The food was delicious, the drinks were very typical and well done and the staff was super friendly (Specially Mr Norberto, the owner). Wasn't just a meal, it was a "tour" to Madeira and the Portuguese culture. I felt very happy and really recommend it

Delicious, finest freshest ingredient in town.

I'd been to the restaurant before lockdown and was really impressed so decided to order takeaway. Honestly the food was outstanding, definitely didnt feel like we were eating a takeaway! I ordered the tuna steak which was amazing and easily the best i've had yet. The other meals my friends ordered were all just as delicious, you need to try this place!

Had a takeaway whilst in lockdown tonight, date night at home, food was awesome as it is when we go to the restaurant itself, having a starter and main meal meant it didn’t feel like a takeaway once we plated up, definitely recommend a visit to everyone, I pre ordered the day before with a set collection time, everything was ready and waiting, don’t hesitate, download the menu and order, enjoy.

A meal was ordered by our daughter and son-in-law for our 25th wedding anniversary, for the 27th May. The meal was delivered on time, by a friendly courteous young man. The meal was amazing, and very generous portions. We will definitely be ordering again and booking a table when things are back to normal. Also on the night we recieved a phone call regarding my wife's nut allergy to see if she would be ok with the dessert, thank you.

Excellent takeaway. Best so far in lockdown.

We ordered a lockdown takeaway for my birthday and it was really tasty! It was so nice to be able to eat proper restaurant food after weeks of home cooking. I have been craving seafood, so I ordered three starters - king prawns, calamari and clams - and it was more than enough food! My boyfriend had a main with chips and veg and had enough left for his lunch the next day. Highly recommend!

Ordered a meal for delivery last night to celebrate our lockdown wedding anniversary....absolutely superb! Food was stunning, fresh and warm. Delivered at my chosen time. So glad this little gem of a restaurant is surviving in these testing times. Thank you !

We went for the first time today for a late lunch. The owners are super friendly and welcoming, and were very happy to help with my food intolerances. We had the chorizo, fish cakes, stroganoff and sea bass, everything was absolutely delicious. A small family restaurant that goes to great lengths to get authentic Portuguese ingredients, and proper Portuguese wines. We will definitely go back
