Very good and fresh food. I had soup of the day and pie of the day and they were very tasty. But the service was just outstanding! Extremely friendly staff.

We ordered our meals just after the 6pm opening, assuming we'd be able to leave for the theatre by 6.45pm. Unfortunately the food didn't arrive for half an hour (there was only one other pair of customers). When the food did arrive, the cook came out with her own dinner, sat opposite us and conducted a speaker-phone conversation with her potty-mouthed boyfriend. The food itself was nice enough, but having to bolt it down in that environment before dashing up the hill to the theatre was not a healthy experience. People who work in hospitality really shouldn't treat the paying customer as an inconvenience to their working life.

A huge thanks to Mr Shake, the Manager, and his staff for accommodating our pre-theatre booking. The food was fantastic and thanks to the wonderful service we received we arrived at the theatre in plenty of time to enjoy the show. We'll be back. Thank you.

Amazing food and service. It was one of the best meals we've had. The duck was amazing. Definitely recommend eating here. I wish we were staying in the area longer so we could try some other menu items. Before making a booking, check groupon and see if they still have a deal available.

We were very pleasantly surprised, food was excellent, service was good. Only gripe was the decor, could be updated a bit. The ale on tap was not great hence 4 stars.

An impromptu visit to the restaurant this evening and I enjoyed the food served. Whilst the overall ambience of the restaurant is tired, I ordered the Beetroot Falafel and was very impressed with the standard of presentation and the flavour.

Went into the Gladstone Bar. Food (sausage sandwich and fries) was fine and service was friendly, welcoming and efficient.

Had a lovely eggs Benedict in there when I stayed, my better half had omelette... the other selections on the menu looked great too

Not sure why opening hours are not correct as the restaurant is taking food orders till 9pm. Fantastic food! Every table was comenting on each serving how gorgeous it is. I went twice whilst staying at the hotel and will be definitely back.

Food was excellent service was outstanding Just one negative the seat next to window in first booth has you enter the restaurant to avoid it is lumpy and uncomfortable. But food and service outstanding Purchased using a Groupon voucher but there were extras which you simply paid for on site. Eg Groupon voucher for 2 cost 23.20 And paid on site another approx 19.00 for 2 So total price for 2 was 41.20 But that was for a 3 Couse meal with one glass of wine for two people Plus an additional glass of wine For my other half Well worth it food and service .

The team were very accommodating of our large group, and kindly provided a specially devised set menu to make ordering and payment simpler for us. The food was excellent. The decor in the bar and hotel in general is tired and the furnishings could do with a face lift, but the staff were attentive and more than made up for it. Our group went out for good food and good company, and we achieved all that at the Ostler. A better drinks service at the table would have made the rating 5*, but we would go back again nonetheless. Thanks to the team 😊

Visited here last Sunday with my family. Really enjoyable meal and good value for money too, three courses worked out about £20 a head. Very friendly table staff and manager greeted us personally. Looking forward to coming here again. Thank you. The Akers family.
