Opa in Bath and North East Somerset

Gorgeous greek restaurant -a little taste of Greece! Delicious Meze, thank you Chef! generous portions and brilliantly run by the lovely Despina and her team. We were celebrating our birthdays and were really looked after. Will definitely return for a Saturday night for the greek dancing and plate smashing! Yassou!

We dined as a couple for a birthday treat. We booked in advance and had a nice table. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and provides a lovely setting for a meal. The service although very friendly was lacking. The drinks service was awful, so slow and the cocktails and cider we were served was substandard if honest. The appetiser Greek gambas was very nice. We had the feast of the titans for main, it was average of honest. I've had better meat from Greek Street food sellers. It was alright, nothing to shout about, and the speed of the drinks service needs to be addressed. Also would be nice so see some Greek beers such as mythos on draught. The 12% added service charge is also outrageous for a table of 2, should be discrecional.

Overall we had a lovely meal and time at Opa and we would go back but a couple of things we'd comment on so that others know what to expect. We love Greek food and used to go to some rough and ready, traditional Greek restaurants in Bristol years ago but Opa is what we'd class as modern/for the tourist Greek. Noise - it's very noisy in the restaurant because it's in the basement. Basically, you're sitting in a cave so the noise bounces around. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice buzzy atmosphere but not one for you if you have hearing problems or want a quiet meal because you do have to talk loudly to make yourself heard. Main Course - we enjoyed the food very much but felt that the Main Course was rather expensive at £22 for a single kebab of 4 chunks of chicken, some chips, a dollop of tzatziki, a handful of bagged lettuce leaves and some pitta bread. As I said at the start of my review, we enjoyed our meal and would go back.

Lovely venue and great Greek food. We went on a Sunday night not expecting a hen party to be right next to us and at times it was impossible for us to speak to each other and be heard. Thankfully they left at 9pm ish and we could relax and enjoy the food. Quirky decor and lively atmosphere. I think I would go at lunchtime next time to avoid the noise which is exacerbated by the arched roof acoustics.

The restaurant is located in the basement of a Georgian building (this is Bath!) and beneath a number of vaulted ceilings. It is quite garishly lit and so any 'old' atmosphere is lost. There, perhaps, 10 other diners, though it was only 17.45 hrs. We ordered 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine, a Greek Salad, Spanakopita pie, Sofrito, Fried Calamari and Aegean Mussels. We had to remind the waiter for the cocktails. The Calamari (really thin bands of squid) were luke warm and sent back. When they returned they were now like crisps which suggested they were refried as opposed to a fresh batch. The Sofrito beef was quite firm. The mussels were the size of fingernails. Overall a very disappointing experience and certainly the most boring Greek-style food we've tasted. Having pointed this out to the staff member when paying the bill it was agreed the service charge would be deducted.

The food is to die for and the wine was even better! I came with my boyfriend for my birthday and all the staff made my night so wonderful! I will definitely be returning.

Booked a table here for our anniversary as we liked the look of the place , we arrived and found the restaurant quickly , not to far from the car park which was great. We got seated at a little table with a view of the canal and was looking forward to our meal, had 2 for one cocktail and it was pretty tasty , we placed our order and waited, must of been 30 minutes before our starters arrived. While waiting we noticed the cobwebs and spiders by where we was sitting near the window and the dirty napkins in the floor, was hard to have a conversation about it tho as the music was quite loud for such a small setting and our seats felt like cheap garden furniture, we didn't feel very comfortable but we was eager to try the food. The starters arrived and mine was delicious, the three cheeses , yum! , hubby's calamari was Abit rubbery but he enjoyed also. We finished and waited another 20 minutes for our main meal to come , we had a sharing banquet , the waiter then realized we needed pita bread to go with it , he left and didn't come back and we had to ask another waiter to bring them. The sharing platter consisted of 3 kebabs , bit weird having a odd number as this was for sharing as it stated in the menu but was presented lovely non the less. Altho it looked the part the meat was very overcooked and dry. The music on repeat at this point was getting a little annoying but we finished our meal and admired the view from the window. We then ordered desserts which tasted fantastic and looked great. I think if the service was faster and the place was Abit cleaner with comfier seating and the meat just took off the grill a little earlier this place would of been worth the £138 bill for 2 people. But I think this is a little overpriced for the quality of the food and overall atmosphere. Would I come back? Probably not , should you go? Give it a try maybe just for cocktails and desserts. It also asks if there are any special requests on booking and I asked if a happy anniversary msg could be put on the desert plate. This was not given and ruined my surprise for the hubby so that was a little bit of a let down.

We went to this restaurant as a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. The place was pretty empty given it was a Sunday afternoon.We all had chicken giros. The food itself was average and I’ve had better from a kebab van. It was also very expensive for what it was.To round it all off the service was really slow although the waiter,was very attentive. A unique underground setting created an appetizing atmosphere. We found the Greek dishes very good as was the service.

Right from us entering the restaurant, the staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and the decorations inside are stunning. We got the pita and dip starter and a sharing main comprised of an assortment of meats and sides. Both myself and my partner really enjoyed the meal overall. As we were there for my birthday they also gave us slices of cake with a sparkler in it which was very kind of them and really showed their care for making their customers experience as special as possible. Overall I loved the experience, the food and the atmosphere and would definitely recommend visiting!

A stunning restaurant. The staff were nice. My friend got a free chocolate cake with a sparkler in it for his birthday. The octopus starter and spinach filo were yum. The bramble cocktail was all ice and no substance so we only had one of those. My chicken aubergine was good and the others shared the meat platter which they liked.

This is a really lovely Greek restaurant. The staff were all so kind and helpful, and they found us a space even though we hadn’t booked. They do excellent deals on cocktails! The place itself is lovely, we sat by a cosy fire, and there is a terrace looking onto the river which must be lovely in the summer. The food was delicious and there was lots of it. Highly recommended.

We went as a birthday treat for my friend. The place was very cosy and pretty. Although the steps down are a bit hard on my friend who has poor mobility. The food was fantastic and the servings were big we had to take home some leftovers. We had a wonderful evening and would be coming back again. Staff are friendly and courteous.

We know Bath pretty well but wanted to try something different for lunch. Had never heard of Opa but we were not disappointed. Not the place to come if you suffer with mobility issues because you do need to walk down a set of narrow steep steps, but once inside….wow….a beautiful little place. I honestly felt like I was on holiday. Very friendly manager made us feel most welcome, we ordered 2 chicken souvlakis and a line caught fish of the day. Absolutely delicious, all 3 meals. Desserts afterwards were delicious, especially the baklava, one of the best I’ve ever tasted. We didn’t try the cocktails but I’ve heard they’re particularly good. The people here are actually Greek, do you know the food you’re getting is authentic and it’s full of flavour and very fresh. Now we’ve found you, we will most certainly be back. What an absolute gem! The food, staff and service was fantastic. We decided on the meat meze after much deliberation between this and the seafood meze, and it did not disappoint. The Santorini Pork stew melted in your mouth and the Loukaniko Sausage was something else! They were so helpful in putting the lamb skewers on a separate serving plate for my husband as I don't like lamb. Everything was so tasty and we struggled to finish it. The two ladies that took our order and served us were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Not to forget the gentleman that greeted us on arrival. This team knows what great Customer service means 👌excellent. I wish we lived in Bath to go there more often.

Ate here on a cold Tuesday night and was surprised how many were in there. Quite steep outside steps down to the restaurant - in a basement - and greeted by friendly staff. Walked through two empty rooms before we were seated so they have lots of tables plus an outdoor dining space in the summer. Food was good, served hot and tasty and we weren’t rushed. Personally I’m not keen on chips with my main course as I’d have liked some veg other than salad - but that’s just me and hubby declared the chips delicious. Only drawback id say is that it was a little chilly. Would eat here again next time I’m in Bath as it was only a 2 minute walk from our hotel - Indigo Bath.

My new favourite restaurant. My partner and I came for our NYE dinner celebration and it was amazing. Food: The quality of the food was so fresh and enjoyable.To start I had the fried halloumi and my partner have the calamari which was delicious and the portion sizes was amazing. For mains we both had chicken skewers and I’ve never had chicken so delicious. We would’ve liked a dessert but not sure if they do desserts as wasn’t given a menu and didn’t see anyone around us have one. Not an issue as starter and mains was gorgeous. Staff: staff was welcoming, I understand it must’ve been a busy night for them but was still asked how our food was is also a pleasure to be asked. Everyone was super friendly happy to take photos for us and help us. Venu: the Decor is absolutely stunning really made me feel like I was in a restaurant in Greece. Only thing I will fault is tables were super close to each other and the stairs going into the the restaurant was very small and steep so keep that in mind when booking with anyone who struggles to walk.

Have been coming here for years and each time does not disappoint. Our visit on this occasion visit was fantastic, nice ambience, great servcie and fantastic food. We shared starters all of which were to the tables liking, well presented and very well cooked. Mains followed suit woith starters, I'd highly recomend the Pork and the Lamb Shank. Beautiful terrace to enjoy drinks afterwards - a must-visit for Bath.

We had a lovely family meal .Super service and super food and a super ambience .This was my second visit and I will return hopefully in May when I am in Bath again .

Ambience, unique decor, service, food all excellent. Just fallen short of top rating due to tables too closely packed together, need to be a contortionist to access the other side of the table. Really great menu choice though, staff very friendly, would recommend.

What a disappointment. On the strength of the reviews, my husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch. The decor is amazing, what a beautiful restaurant and the waitress was so lovely, we could only imagine if they put this much effort into decorating and service, the food must be fantastic. How wrong were we. We love Greek food and maybe expected too much. It was as far from authentic as you could get and was absolutely terrible. My husband had calamari and it was so aneomic looking, it was soggy and tasteless, followed by microwaved mousakka, hot on the outside and cool on the inside. I had chicken gyros and it came with steam rising from it. It definitely wasn’t cooked on a rotisserie. It was obvious all the food is microwaved and not fresh. Even the accompanying chunky chips were dry and tasteless. I did ask the waitress if the food was frozen and microwaved and as lovely as she was, she reluctantly admitted that it was. It was so disappointing. We definitely won’t be returning. We spent £80 for the set 2 course lunch with a bottle of wine and a Mythos. Just not worth it.

The setting, in an extensive cellar, under a Georgian house close to the river and slightly outside the busy city centre, is ideal for lunch if you want to avoid the usual chains full of shoppers at lunchtime, especially at Christmas time when the Christmas market is in full swing. The restaurant had plenty of guests but there were still plenty of spaces. The ambiance in the main part is thanks to bright murals and lighting filtered through fake vines and flowers, but it really does give the impression of eating outside in the sunlight- quite a trick to pull off in a Bath cellar! I would say that I found the music a little too loud, and my only other negative is that the toilets had very damp floors. This is not our first visit to this restaurant and we have always enjoyed the quality of the food and great service. The salads are lovely and fresh and the mains always full of flavour. I would warn you to go with a big appetite because the portions are massive! I wasn’t able to eat all of my lamb main and didn’t need feeding for the rest of the day! I don’t think the couple next to us could finish their sharing platter!

What a venue! Food was amazing me and my daughter had the souvlaki which was fabulous my friend had the moussaka followed by kataifi - everyone loved the food the ambience and the staff - already planning to go back!

We have dined here numerous times on a week day...however the last time we booked for a birthday on a Saturday, on arrival we were told there were no tables in the main dining area and were seated on a bar table with stools, as my husband had booked for a party of 4 and couldn't find the email confirmation to say we had booked the main dining area, they were happy for us to assume we had booked wrong!! But they had my name and the time of booking ...we had a choice of eating on barstools again or eating outside ... as it was a Saturday and fearing elsewhere would be booked, we stayed and opted to eat outside ... sat at a table by the window ..at least we had a nice view...but no....we were asked to move to a different table!!! The table by the window remained empty the whole time ..except for a couple who walked in off the street sat there for 1 drink and left!!
