I had the chicken, Jollof rice and plantain for lunch. Really tasty. Would definitely recommend and go back again for more.

We had the beef stew with jollof rice and it was so delicious - the beef is really flavourful and the rice is not mushy at all. I got it with a side of plantains, which honestly might have been the best plantains I’ve ever eaten. £10.50 for a very big portion, I even went back to order a second serving of jollof to have more for dinner.

Jollof, Beef stew and Plantain combo for £10.50 is a banga. As a white man seeking delicious food from around the world, Onje has been the only African place so far where every component of this combo has been on point. Anyone wondering whether to try it 100% do.

Over-Priced for bang average food......The goat was extremely tough and think i had 4 small pieces in my portion (More bone than goat). Wouldn't go back. Plenty of better, cheaper and nicer options within the indoor Manchester market.

Having called into town to get my phone repaired, I decided to get a pattie from this place. As aplace that is supposed to be cooking everything from scratch, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The pattie was being unwrapped from a PACKET, exactly the same as the ones from Asda, which around £1.25 mark. The lady serving then proceeded to place it into the microwave to heat it up and charge me £3. I am all for genuine food traders who put in the time and effort to produce their food, but traders like this should be ashamed and at least make people aware of what they are about to eat is not freshly made. To make matters worse the service is shocking, avoid if you don't want to be disappointed and feel robbed.

Don't even bother. Unless you're starving, in post apocalyptic Manchester and zombies have raided the last soup kitchen and all there's left is this pseudo Jamaican where you order overpriced uncle Ben's tomato rice and flavourless chicken that would taste better if nuked by a child with less cooking skills than Ramsay on tour. I would rather have my mother in law's two day boiled to mush vegetables than this. £20 pounds that would be better invested requesting EHOs to visit and shut it down for good, in order to prevent 999 calls.

I went yesterday to Onje while visiting Manchester. I had jollof Rice with beef stew & plantain as recommended by the lovely lady serving. The portion size was generous at a good price of £10.50 for the meal plus a bottle of water & the food was delicious 😋 10/10 would highly recommend & ill be sure to visit again if I'm ever back in Manchester.

The portion is massive for the price! We were in awe as the lady kept piling on. The food is amazing, always warm and tasty. We always get jerk chicken with rice and bean + curry goat & rice + side fried plantains and share, it's just the best! Like the other stalls in the market though you need to pick the time otherwise it will be too crowded to find a seat.

Me and my sister-in-law were queuing for ages, only for one of the women working there to finally acknowledge our existence and snap 'do you want something?' What a great way to speak to a customer waiting to give you money. I then asked if the jollof and chicken was gf and just got a completely disinterested 'no'. Depending on seasoning used, jollof is usually naturally gluten free. Couldn't shake the feeling she just didn't want to serve a white person. It was more embarrassing than anything. Whilst waiting a silly amount of time to be served, I thought several times of just walking off and not bothering...wish I had in the end. #lessthanonestar

Having relocated from south east London to Greater Manchester I was worried about where I’d get my fix of Nigerian staples. A colleague mentioned seeing a Nigerian stall in the Arndale and recommended taking a trip to the food market to scout it out. I can confirm that Onje does indeed exist and is 100% the real deal. The food is only bettered by the warm hospitality (and banter) of the hosts. It’s basically of a home away from home. From favourites like jollof and stew, curry goat and patties specialities like pounded yam and egusi, moin moin and pottage - Onje have it all. Just make sure you get in early or book in advance to avoid disappointment! 😊

I just thought I have to put this up for the safety of others. I have always got a good customer service from this place and always enjoy the food. But today at around 2pm 17th of May 2019. Me and two of my friends bought food from onje to celebrate finishing our exam and found a massive hair inside the food and really dirty as well which I will tag the pictures. This pull us off from eating the food and rather than the in experience manager in charge to calm the situation he start threatening us which was the worse customer service have ever received in my entire life, not even Nigeria immigration customer service is as worse as this. But just thought I let people to be aware of the food they eat and stair properly as we need to be careful what is going on in our stomach thanks.

MORE AT Google

For some reason I've always had a yearning to try goat curry with rice and peas but as I live in a rural hinterland where you've got more chance of finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn than you have of finding an authentic Caribbean restaurant or takeaway the opportunity never arose. Until recently that is when I found myself looking for something to eat in the Arndale Market food hall and spotted goat curry on the menu at Onje. It wasn't all that cheap for takeaway food (eight quid for goat curry, rice, peas and coleslaw) given that it was served in a polystyrene tray with a flimsy plastic knife, fork and spoon (the fork snapped in half when I tried to use it!) but I felt that I should strike while the iron was hot. The big disappointment for me was that the goat seemed to be more bone than meat and I'm not all that keen on crunching down on pieces of bone. Once I'd removed all the bone fragments and mixed the sauce into the rice and peas what was left was reasonably enjoyable, although I'd expected it to be laced with Scotch Bonnet and far more spicy. As I've never had the opportunity to try Caribbean food before I don't know if the food I was served was authentic or not but I wouldn't rush to try it again. But at least I can tick it off my bucket list, even if the experience wasn't all I'd expected.

If I could give this minus stars I would. Ordered curried goat in a "mild" curry sauce - it came in lumpy sauce, intolerably spicy and cremated; presumably to try and mask the meat that had clearly gone off - straight in the bin. My mate ordered jerk chicken (first time he'd tried Caribbean food) that was, again, extremely spicy and with barely any meat (he still ate it as he complained though which was kind of impressive... the absolute animal). We ordered rice and peas at £5.50 which I thought was extortionate, especially considering they didn't arrive with the order. This has well and truly ruined my day, ruined my mate's first impress of Caribbean food (which is the biggest shame) and the little mouthful I did have will probably make me unwell at some point over the next 24 hours... don't go, this place is going to make someone very unwell!

went today for lunch first tray chicken, rice and veg. Chicken was very pink when I cut it, rice cold and veg hard. My partner took it back asked for a refund was refused so exchanged the meal for goat. She just took the uncooked chicken off the rice and put the goat on top then handed both boxes to him. She said she couldn't keep the chicken box as had no way of disposing of it. The goat was full of bones and yes I'm aware goat should have some bones but it was more bones than meat. I took both boxes back and told them how disgusting the food was and they both just stared at me. At first I thought they didn't speak English but then the woman simply said "I've heard enough from you now" I asked again for a refund and was again told no so I took both boxes and threw them to the floor. They then had the cheek to get security to me but on explaining what had happened the security did nothing so this must be a regular occurrence.
