It's been a few years since we visited 77 in Caxton. I always remember it being very good but our experience this week was fantastic. Still the same quirky pub setting but the food was exceptional - probably some of the best Thai food I've ever had. It's strange how you get out of the habit of going places, and when you return, it's far better than you remember. We won't be leaving it so long before returning. I also noticed that they do 'take-aways' which is good to know.

Family members enjoyed their meals, and the staff were helpful, but I was rather disappointed in the vegan choices as the tofu on the the published menu seemed to offer great choices, but turned out to be the frozen rubbery type rather than chilled fresh tofu, and many of the dishes which were potentially adaptable for vegetarians or vegans contained fish sauce. The menu however describes the dishes as vegetable main courses rather than suitable for vegetarians or vegan so I should have guessed fish sauce might be an issue for strict vegetarians I thought the main dish vegetable stir fry that was confirmed as vegan was very small, more side dish size.

Absolutely love this place, great Thai food. Comprehensive menu , somewhat different to the mainstream high street Thai Restaurants. Plenty of room inside in the rather unique ,decoration and seating. Ample car park. Food is very flavoursome and tasty. Nice warm welcome on entering. The prawn crackers and dip are rather delicious and spicy.

We were three friends getting together to catch up and I suggested No. 77, having enjoyed a meal there 6 years ago. We had a lovely evening despite the shortcomings but we were disappointed and won't be rushing back. We took a while to order, as we arrived separately and were catching up, but the waiter was attentive and friendly. After ordering it took a long time for our food to arrive and they brought our main course before our starter. We told our waiter we hadn't received our sharing platter starter and he apologised and said he'd go and find out where it was but asked if we wanted to keep the mains now? We declined as we wanted our starter first. They apologised and said it had been forgotten and asked if we wanted another drink (not complementary). One of us ordered a drink but it never arrived so she had to go to the bar to ask for it. The starter was fine but not very warm. Our mains were tasty, and we all loved the sticky rice, but my curry was again not very warm which was disappointing. We decided not to order dessert as it was late and we worried it would take a long time to arrive. Staff were pleasant, it was clean with trendy decor but it wasn't very busy for a Friday night and there wasn't much of an atmosphere. A really mediocre experience saved by good company.

EXCELLENT - Delicious Food - Beautiful Setting - Beyond awes:0me ***** Thank you Restaurant 77 ***** I booked a surprise weekend for my Fiancé Katarina in Cambridge. A four star, big name hotel and a romantic dinner @ Restaurant 77 on a Friday night. I love Cambridge and my chica had absolutely no idea what it is like having never visited before. Restaurant 77 we had never dined at and it isn't exactly in the heart of Cambridge so this could either go great or I could fall flat on my face somewhat ruining part of Katarina's first Cambridge experience. Restaurant 77 is simply put, magical. The Restaurant on the outside admittedly gave me closed down english pub gone halfway house, but walking inside transported us to such a stunning dining room & bar. The food here is extra-ordinary! Next level delectable with homemade prawn crackers that stole the show for sure (killed the attraction of the manky white prawn crackers you buy from a supermarket). Food here is as Perfect as food dishes could ever be and our night was signed off by a lovely young lady Rian who manned the bar during payment.

Our visit coincided with the time when Thai food was not being served. We were more than happy with the meal we had today - lasagne, risotto (vegan version) and steak and ale pie were all pronounced really excellent. Traditional pub fare cooked with restaurant flair. A shout-out for the perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables too. We had a warm welcome (as did our canine companion) and charming service throughout. Especial care was taken to tailor the ingredients for our vegan diner. My only regret is that portions were so generous we couldn't fit in a pudding. Loved the repurposed cinema seats. Lucky Caxton to have such a gem - we'd certainly make a point of coming back when this menu is on offer.

I wish I would stay with the current food and not Thai as it’s the best place for a roast locally. We had salmon and wings for starters both were delicious. Then we both had a before roast which I couldn’t fault! I didn’t think anyone could compete with my roast potatoes but they did. Lots of vegetables. Deserts we have a sorbet and the chocolate fondue. The fondue is as big enough it could have been for sharing and it had a wide variety of items for dipping. Couldn’t fault in anyway! The price for two three courses was good too! Can’t recommend enough! Will definitely be back.

Very different to what we were expecting. Even before we went in I thought the windows needed a good clean . The inside was very quirky tho. From a mad looking fox on the wall to what seemed to be seats ripped off an old tram . The sharing starter was not particularly special. It was all deep fried and served with a Carrot garnish which I’m sure will get used again and again. Main course very good . King prawns and squid full of flavour . Noodles and sauce very very good . Pint of lager £4 which is considered cheap nowadays. The whole place could do with a good clean to be honest. We will be back . Just won’t be rushing

Underwhelming the food was not brilliant.. the staff were not at their best and the price too expensive for what it was. Never got asked if we would like more drinks so had to ask ourselves and no offer of deserts.. clearly they wanted to get home. Food was average … left £20.00 cash as a 10% tip quite tempted to return to my table to retrieve this after paying the bill .. did decide against this but regret leaving a tip . The only tip they should have is be more attentive, sort the food and clean the place. The seat one of our guests was sat in was broken. Not a good experience.

We regularly order from No 77. Previously the meals have been really delicious. However, tonight I ordered the Thai Tapas platter and it was possible the most inedible thing I’ve eaten for a long time. Everything was fried in a lot of oil and really greasy (apart from the chicken satay skewers) and it was all soft like it has been sitting for a long time (even the spring rolls were soft). There was no crunchy texture to anything. Needless to say I couldn’t eat it. The Thai fish cakes are like something you get in a massive bag from Iceland, revolting. Not the usual standard. Not sure what went wrong but I’d certainly avoid this dish!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first-time visit to No.77 Thai. After many recommendations to eat here, I found it to be a pleasant atmosphere in low lit surroundings with some shabby-chic vintage style furnishings. This is a really good start and introduction to things. Now, on to the food: there is a good, wide-ranging menu with Quorn and tofu vegetarian options for traditional Thai mains. We both opted for Massamaan dishes, each of which were toothsome. No flavour was too dominant and completed an ideal portion of rice on the side. We ordered extra fried egg noodles and Pak Choop - vegetable tempura. They were all very good and hit the right ‘sweet spots’.Finally, alcoholic drinks are a reasonable price with Camden Hells (5 GBP), Becks and Aspalls on draught.I will most certainly return.

After a couple of weeks on lockdown it's so nice to be able to get a meal like this as a treat - it made the evening feel very special. We had one of the Kantok set menu deals - several delicious dishes (in our case a pork red curry, prawn pad thai, fishcakes, duck spring rolls and stir fried vegetables all served with jasmine rice) for two to share. Would absolutely recommend and look forward to going back there in person when the Covid lockdown is over.

We had a family birthday dinner at No 77 in Caxton on 4th January 2020 (four of us at 7.30 pm) – normally we go to the excellent Red House in Longstowe, but my daughter fancied a Thai meal. How I wish we'd stuck with the Red House!Things started badly when we arrived – no record of my reservation (which I'd made by phone on 2nd January). Fortunately, they had a spare table – which led to the next issue, for it (table 3) was at the end of the room under a full width mirror and with a fixed bench seat (fair enough), facing two old cinema seats, fixed to the floor and a bit on the low side. Being a large table (good) does mean if you are in any way oversized, you'll find it very, very difficult, if not impossible, to get in – and probably even more difficult to get out – because there isn't room to manoeuvre the table. We were attended to quite quickly (good) and handed what I have to say were rather tired looking and dog-eared menus... which suggests choices and prices haven't changed for quite a while. A jug of tap water, our choice of wine and our food all arrived in good time (good) but my selection of Choo-Chee Seabass was more batter than bass and somewhat mushy to boot, served with a pudding bowl of solid rice – at least the mixed veg helped to dampen the boring rice. My wife also had the seabass (and left a great pile of batter) while my children had Massamaan Curry Beef and Massamaan Curry Chicken – they didn’t comment on the food, so I assume it was pretty ordinary.I chose Chocolate Bounty Brownie for pud; I forget what my wife ordered, but it turned out not to be available, so she changed to the sorbet selection. My brownie arrived with the cup of Lemongrass + Ginger Tea my son asked for (daughter didn't want anything) and a Double Espresso for myself (why do restaurant owners the world over never wait until the pudding has been eaten before serving coffee?) but no sorbet. It soon became obvious the sorbet had been forgotten so had to be asked for.Meal over and no sign of our waitress although a young man did appear several times to serve on the tables behind me – I could see him in the mirror never looking in our direction; it took some vigorous waving on the part of my wife to attract his attention and ask for the bill. I'm normally very trusting, but this time I decided to peruse it – and guess, what, it contained someone else's pre-dinner drinks. So, out of my seat I struggled (even though I’m slim and agile) to take the bill to the bar – where the owner of No 77 was sitting (at least he claimed to be the owner), and while my bill was being corrected, I took the opportunity to politely go through my experience of his establishment which he "took on board".Oh! There's something else I've not mentioned (and didn't to mine host) – noise. Not the noise of other diners chatting (which was quite subdued), but the unnecessary intrusion of the restaurant's muzak system. Why does No 77 – and so many other restaurants – feel it necessary to pipe sounds to diners? It takes away not adds to the ambience while adding an extra cost burden for the restaurant through its PRS for Music licence.Too late to do anything about it now, but looking though No 77’s bill while writing this review, I see we were also charged for Thai Prawn Crackers (£2.50) which we didn’t ask for or have.So here’s a restaurant which has had a bad review essentially because its management allowed too many little things to spoil the evening for me.But if you go and find the cinema seats at table three have been replaced by normal chairs, the food tastes good and not the least bit mushy, the menus are in a good state of repair, the service is excellent from arrival to when you reluctantly leave, the muzak has been switched off and you're only charged for what you ordered, then please write an honest five star review.

Let me start by saying how much of a shame we didn’t have a fantastic experience here! The setting and venue is lovely and really quirky! However from the minute we arrived it just wasn’t great, we sat down and were offered drinks, these took ages to come out! They arrived minutes before our starters came witch was a shame as the girls in the group had ordered cocktails witch we had wanted to drink before our food had come and then order wine with our food! We then ordered some Prosecco and the boys beer. When the mains came out the rice had gone hard like it had been sitting there a while and my curry was warm not hot ( 2 of us had chicken massaman and one had the red curry and the other some duck noodles) our massaman curry was pretty bland and quite sickly I couldn’t eat it all! My other half’s Thai red curry tasted mainly of basil and was no spice to it! The only dish that was pretty good were the duck noodles! After our plates were collected it was like the had forgotten we were even there! We were never offered a dessert menu (however they had to walk passed our table with the dessert menu to the bigger table behind us and still never offered us) they didn’t even offer more drinks when they came and collected the empty Prosecco bottle from our table!!! After sitting there for about half hour with out any drinks one of the guys on the table had to go up to the bar to get someone to come to our table and take some more drinks! And to top it all off in the early hours of the morning I was really very sick from the food I had eaten!! Really disappointed to be honest we had travelled about 40 mins to this restaurant as had heard good things... but we certainly won’t be heading back! Such a shame!

This is a very nice pub for drinks- nicely decorated, comfortable, lovely building. But the Thai kitchen menu sadly doesn’t deliver - which is a shame as we had takeaway about a year ago which was better. Maybe today was an off day, but curries and spring rolls were bland, tasteless, spring rolls were greasy with very little filling. Green curry had none of the simple mix of spices and flavours it should have, very bland and could only taste chilli. Tom yum soup made I think from paste out of a jar was very nice but would have been better with just vegetables as the prawns were watery and tasteless. Pad Thai noodles were good.

We were all quite shocked at the size of the dishes especially when the price tag next to them isn’t exactly cheap. The pan serrano bread cost £5 and for it to be served on what looked like a slice of bread out of a loaf from the store couldn’t even accommodate one person, you’d also expect more than 2 small chicken wings in a bowl when sharing, surely? We were all left hungry with and extremely large bill and that’s excluding drinks. Would return as we love the idea of tapas but now know what to expect.

Absolutely love the Thai food here, so when I booked, unaware it was Tapas night, until I looked through the facebook page, it was definitely right up my street.

We absolutely love No.77! The food is always so nice, fresh and hot. Served reasonably quickly by lovely staff. The cocktail menu is also great. The restaurant is always busy and quite noisey so great for groups. The decor is lovely and the fire is perfect for a wintery evening. We often have the Kantok sharing meal... it is alot of food but nice to try different things. Failing that we always go back to the curries which are always delicious! We return monthly without fail, and often also have take away which is just as delicious as eating in!

I was recommended No77 a few months back by a work colleague and girlfriend, who said outside of Thailand this was the best Thai curry they had eaten. So I booked for a pre Christmas lunch with a friend and it did not disappoint and was worth the 25 minute drive. Lovely starter and the curry main was so beautiful, it is worth the trip out to. Will be back.

We went for a Work Xmas do. Everything from speed of service to cosy atmosphere and absolute amazing food was brilliant! We asked for our mains to be delayed as we were waiting for a colleague. The staff were extremely accommodating and has no issues with This. There were no issues with the large order, everything was spot on. We’ll definitely be back sooner rather than later! Thank you!

Had a great evening here with friends. We had a bit of a nightmare with the taxi from our hotel to the restaurant but we called No.77 to let them know and they kindly kept the kitchen open for our order.

We regularly go out with another couple who are good friends of ours. We like to try different places & food. We certainly were very pleased to find this place - recommended by a work colleague. We went for the fixed menu for two (Kantok) we had, Duck spring rolls,Thai fish cakes,Thai red pork curry,Stir fried mixed vegetables, Pad Thai prawn noodles & Jasmine rice which was very good value. Our friends had Chicken satay,Prawn tempura,Thai massaman beef curry,Stir fried ginger pork, Singapore prawn vermicelli noodles & Jasmine rice. They asked to swap the rice for sticky rice which was done without hesitation.Very tasty food & good amounts. We ended up taking some home since we couldn't finish it. We will be trying something different on our next visit in a couple of weeks. It's a dimly lit place with unusual décor. The cinema seats we found very awkward & uncomfortable - when we book again, not sitting on them! It's different but don't see the point. The music was quite loud & it was hard to be heard but I asked the waiter if it could be turned down & it was a little....much better. The staff were very attentive & bought our starters, followed by our mains all together, so no-one was left waiting for their food.

We were recommended this venue by friends, On arrival we had a seat by the window which was nice, first thing we noticed on being seated the table was sticky and not cleaned properly, there was music playing, though the atmosphere was good it was so loud and I would say difficult to have a conversation, a couple of times the bar man was mixing cocktails it was so loud you couldn’t hea4 each other.

The food was average ,but the service was very good. Starter platter was no different from any other place ( could have been cooked from frozen because so uniformed). Main course curries very watery but fine, pad Thai noodles very good, overall a place to go for quick food when you can’t be bothered to cook.

Visited here on a Friday evening as part of a large booking, the restaurant was very very busy but the service and food were excellent. Unusually all of our group had completely different dishes and all were very pleased with no-one being disappointed at all. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, lively yet not noisy, unusual decor. My only disappointment was that as there was so many of us around the table we couldn’t experience the theatre seats! I would visit again without hesitation.

This is an awesome restaurant. Obviously an old pub but it was empty nor was it full. Food is exquisite and is served quickly. Atmosphere as you expect it to be. The beef massaman and orange chocolate pot were greatly welcomed. Will return and hopefully have a take away. 5 stars for everything.

From previous reviews I had high expectations and was unfortunately a bit disappointed. First impression was good with dim lighting and dark sultry décor making a nice atmosphere for dining. Once at the table I found myself in a rather uncomfortable old style theatre or cinema folding seat, a nice idea but a little low for the table and of course always caught by the self folding mechanism. The table was sticky with chilli sauce and wine glass rings from the previous diners and could have done with a proper clean. So onto the menu, 2 starters but only one arrived so had to be reordered, 2 curries with rice , both very nice, and two coffees but only one arrived. So in summary. Food was nice but presentation, cleanliness, and service could be better. Overall over rated so just average from me.

Excellent choice of food on the menu. My friend is gluten free and vegan and there were plenty of options for her too. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and as a bonus, very reasonable.

Been here 4 times hoping that it's improved as the staff are good and the place is nice. It's worse than ever! Curry and beef in oyster is bland and sweet. Pad saeew is made with chow mein noodles and sugary. If you know anything about Thai food don't come here. Easily the worst Thai in Cambs with no Thai ingredients used. I feel disappointed I feel i need to write this review.

The food here is amazing, the cocktails are nice too and the staff are lovely. I've been for meals with groups of co-workers here too and they always accommodate us well. The car park is usually full but I've always found a space on the road outside.

the ambience of this establishment was excellent. The lighting is very subdued and together with the interesting décor it made for a very intimate setting. The food itself was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent.
