Ordered lamp rump, requesting rare; what arrived was not even medium but very well done; I called a member of staff who told me the meat would be rare inside and, despite me cutting a piece to show not even a hint of pink, repeated that it would be pink inside - it wasn't worth eating. We ordered affogato for dessert, 'a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with a hot shot of espresso coffee' but the espresso was cold so the ice cream remained frozen. So disappointing that we won't be returning.

Such a wonderful treat not having to think about the allergy status of the food and being able to have anything on here menu. The food was excellent and was not your usual wholemeal, whole food sort of gluten free restaurant.

It is one of the earliest restaurants who do gluten-free dishes for dishes that are usually gluten-free. The food was tasty as well. As there are a lot more restaurants that offer gluten-free alternatives, it feels less of the need of having to dinner there.

Finding this restaurant made me very happy. Delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Often, gluten-free ends up being vegan too, so it was great to have a range of dairy and meat options too. Would definitely recommend.

Nice place in Islington. The focus here is that all food and drinks do not contain gluten. The place is cozy and the service is super nice. The sea bream we ordered was on point and the other dishes were delicious. Good 4 stars.

We were excited to try this place when in London, as my partner has various food intolerances and were impressed by the fodmap menu - plus it had great reviews. We were, infortunately, disappointed, mainly by the food and price. Food was ok, but nothing special and the portions were very small, especially for the price. Place itself is small, and tables are a bit crammed together. We also got a bottle of wine, which was average at best, for £40. Staff were very nice, but we would not go again, I'm afraid.

Niche is outstanding! All of us agreed the food was amazing- even the folks who are not gluten free. Not only was the food fantastic (we went back a second time in one week!) but the staff went above and beyond in every way- I'd give them 6 stars if I could. They managed all of our food allergies in addition to gluten with care and deliciousness. And when I made a mistake with our reservation for our second visit, they went above and beyond to accommodate us and save the night. If we didn't live so far away, we would be regulars here.

Came here for a roast on Easter Sunday afternoon. The bread selection was enjoyable but we waited a long time for mains, which were poor. No roast potatoes, overcooked everything else and a gravy that was closer to BBQ sauce, would certainly avoid their roast dinners.

The NFC chicken was delicious but unfortunately our mains weren’t the best and not worth the price we paid. My sea bream was lovely but the lemon was very overpowering and spoiled the dish. The duck was cooked beautifully but didn’t come with anything else so it didn’t fill you up, it would’ve been nice if it had some potatoes considering the price. It was a shame as I was very excited to eat here again but the quality seems to of gone down since I attended a few years ago. The service was very average and slow. The bread I had was nice but the rosemary was very overpowering. Over seasoning seems to be a theme. I wouldn’t eat here again which I’m sad about as I loved being able to eat somewhere completely gluten free without worry but it’s just not worth the expense for what you get.

We went here on my 30th birthday. As a celiac all I can say is WOW. The food freedom to just chose anything off a menu? Incredible The food is delicious, couldn't reccomend the duck more be honest, the focaccia is amazing and just the most exquisite gluten free bread I've ever encountered. It could probably do with being a little bigger that's my only criticism, the staff are amazing 💕

As a recently diagnosed celiac, I really want to love everything about Niche, but after 2 visits a week apart, I have to say it's a bit hit or miss. The fried chicken is amazing, tasty, crunchy coating and moist chicken (both visits). The sea bream main on visit 1 and its accompaniments were well cooked and tasty. But the smoked duck, celeriac and bok choy of visit 2 was disappointing: the duck was over cooked (trying to cut it with my knife was a chore) as was the bok choy (slimy) and the celeriac puree added nothing to the dish (and with no potatoes or rice, not pureed so there was something with some bite, would've be nice). The desserts both times were a fail: the crumble had no crunch to the topping and instead was powdery; the tiramasu was more of a mousse - nothing was dreamed up to replace the traditional sponge. Basically, if you ever enjoyed the traditional recipes of these 2 desserts, their Niche version won't live up to the past. Oddly, I've found pics of their tiramasu in other google reviews that looks nothing like what I got served tonight and actually looks like tiramasu....🤔 As I said: hit or miss.

Some parts were good but on the whole a bit disappointing. We had one Coeliac and one Gluten and dairy free in our group which was what prompted the visit. We all enjoyed it starter but apart from my burger the mains were underwhelming. The duck main was sent back twice as it was served stone cold. The chocolate brownie dessert was really not good. To me it was more like one of this cheap supermarket runny centre chocolate puddings. Nothing like a brownie. I thought the price a little high for starters and mains but I guess that is London for you. The beer was a rip off at £9 for a 300ml bottle. I wouldn’t go back.

I went there for Valentine’s Day. The place is not that small but the tables are squeezed next to each other so close you can’t even take your jacket without it getting into your table neighbour’s plate .The bread selection starter was absolutely horrible and i was missing 1/3rd of my main meal. I ordered duck with celery puree and received undercooked duck oozing blood with two pieces of inedible, chewy cabbage on a splat of some sort of cheesy sauce with puree nowhere to be seen. The cutlery was cheap I burned more calories cutting my meal than I ate, my hands were actually hurting afterwards. I had a horrible evening and I wish I had never booked a table here. I was very excited to come here since I have been put on the low fodmap diet and this is one of the few places that advertise that they specifically accommodate the low fodmap diet. I think if you are solely gluten free this is an amazing place with so many options I would be over the moon to eat lots of food and not be stressed out on cross contamination. But if you are on the low fodmap diet, I don't think it's worth the prices and what the menu offers its basic things that normal non niche restaurant offer to adapt the recipes for you. You can find gluten free burgers elsewhere mine was very dry and disappointing with not much flavour to it. Pan fried sea bream and lamb rump you don't need to come to a place like this to eat that. Anyone can do that for you. I was hoping to have some exciting food that other restaurants are not able to adapt their recipes for us and hence we have these basic meals. Same with the desserts gluten free menu has some delicious options. And we only have sorbet as an option which is what you expect from other restaurants. Not even vegan ice cream. I have gone to other places and found at least one gluten free and dairy free option. I can see why it is so popular if you are just gluten free but I wouldn't waste your money if you are going there for the low fodmap menu the only plus is I loved the starters and of course not having to explain the low fodmap diet. Don’t think twice. Go here! This was top On my list when coming to London for the first time last week. I rearranged my plans to make it for the Sunday roast. I am SO glad I did! Niche was only 1 of 2 places (One Aldwych being the only other place) that offered gluten free and dairy free Yorkshire pudding. I can’t explain how included I felt to be able to eat everything everyone else normally does for a Sunday roast including the Yorkshire pudding! We got the focaccia bread with tomato roasted butter (dairy free too) and OH MY GOSH it was DELICIOUS!!!!!! I don’t even really like tomatoes, but this butter was unreal! I have never had such amazing, warm, soft fluffy gluten free bread before. I wish I had gotten my own and didn’t share it with my friend lol. I also got the fried chicken. It was SO good!!! Finally, a restaurant with a Low fodmap menu! 👏🏽The food was ok, but it would be nice to have more options and more elaborate dishes (it wasn't so different to what we would cook at home, bit expensive too - 60£ for gnocchi, a burger, a diet Coke, and 2 bruschette). The ventilation could be improved, windows were foggy. It was a bit hard to talk over the noise of everyone else speaking. I appreciated the music, especially Buena Vista Social Club.

Amazing. Came here whilst on a trip from Newcastle as a treat for my partner to be able to eat out and not have to think about it beforehand or be handed an allergen folder to navigate. The food was amazing, if you didn't know it was a gf restaurant i doubt you could tell. The only give away would possibly be the bread being slightly unlike regular bread, but that was still delicious. We ate like pigs; three courses plus sharing sides and every mouthful was a delight. This was all amazing value for what we got, especially for London, where we seemed to get our eyes ripped out everywhere else. Staff were lovely and attentive. Well worth a visit. Pleasant 15 min walk from Kings Cross. If only we could find somewhere quite like this in Newcastle... kind of makes me a bit cross too, because it goes to show how celiacs/gluten sensitive can be catered for and still be inclusive to all, as it doesn't sacrifice taste in any way.

Uncooked, overpriced, food with a large side order of indigestion. The entire meal was poor. The food was all undercooked and overpriced. It seems a shame to be capitalising on a food intolerance. Charging £25+ for mains that wouldn’t be out of place in a Tim-Martin-Owned-Pub, with the cover of being “gluten free” is simply opportunistic cashing in at its finest. We ordered the pie, which came with soggy pastry and the filling was more akin to a soup. The burger was twice the price it should have been, and the gnocchi was under seasoned and boring. One of the waiters seemed extremely stressed about the proposition of having customers, and rushed everything, making no effort to create a relaxed atmosphere. We were rushed through, and when we asked for more time on the menu, she returned some 15 seconds later, and wasn’t leaving until our orders had been taken. She took away the starter before it was finished, rushed us through ordering and advised us not to have desert as there wasn’t time. 5 minutes before our table was due back, she rushed us out of the restaurant, seemingly stressed about the proposition of more customers. The only positive of this place was one of the staff members (young guy) was kind, hospitable and an asset to the business. Couldn’t recommend less.

The menu was varied and 100% gluten free, with other allergens listed clearly. The food was presented absolutely beautifully and tasted even better. We travelled across London to visit Niche and it was well worth the effort. Our main dishes didn't come with many vegetables other than potatoes, so worth ordering a side of vege. *Gluten freeeee* Fella (obviously)orders the bread selection. Focaccia is more like a soft roll but lovely flavour of rosemary running through. Red onion chilli flat bread had a great texture and flavour. The toasted sourdough was a bit dull. The potato cake (vegan) was a tremendous hit. Lovely smoky flavour and the beer battered onion rings added a nice crisp to each bite. The roasted veg was a nice colourful touch but not sure the chilli jam or stew added much. Cauliflower cheese lacked seasoning and flavour :( Fella was v happy with his chicken schnitzel. Not only gluten free but peanut, sessme, tree nut free too. Good vegan options too. Finished with a blackberry and apple crumble. Fella was super happy having not had crumble in years. Cozy restaurant and really not much space between tables. Our food arrived quickly but we saw other diners who’d ordered before us wait quite a while before receiving their meals? We’d go back to sample more gluten free meals and potato cake again for me!

Unfortunately, our experience at Niche was disappointing. We were greatly looking forward to our reservation at Niche for a Sunday roast. We booked it before coming to London even though it wasn't really near the area we would be staying, because it is one of the only gluten free certified restaurants in London. The Pros: Cute restaurant in a quiet area with very friendly service The fried chicken appetizer was delicious The cons: We were both looking forward ro the chicken roast, but sadly, we were told that there was none left, so we decided to go with the beef. When the plates arrives, they looked delicious. But the beef ended up being so dry that neither of us enjpyed it and, to make matters worse, there was barely a drop of gravy on our plates. The yorkshire pudding was very good, but without gravy to sop up,it was pretty pointless. I was unable to eat mine as I also felt the beef tasting oddly. They boxed it up for me, but sadly, it ended up in the trash because there was just no enjoying it. This was the only Sunday roast we had while in London, so it was definitely a huge letdown, especially for the cost.

We booked a table at Niche for a special occasion weeks before visiting. When we arrived, we got seated right by the door where it was freezing as people were constantly going in and out, and standing right over us. I had to wear my winter jacket throughout the dinner while there were free tables on the warm restaurant side. When we asked her for another table, she refused because it was "difficult to change tables in their booking system". Then 15min later another couple walked in and got seated by the door as well, but their request to get reseated was immediately granted. When we asked the restaurant manager, his reply was rude and unapologetic. Additionally, the seating by the door was so ran down with a worn out bench and a power board next to it that it was hard to believe we were actually in a restaurant where dinner for two easily cost over 100 GBP. There was also a mix-up with the menu. The servers couldn't agree among themselves what was available and what not (the menu on the window was different from the actual one). The least they could do is get the staff together 10 minutes before opening to go over what dishes they serve. We ate at seven restaurants over a long weekend, all offering gluten free options or entirely gluten free menus, and it was by far the worst experience. There are so many great dining options in London, so avoid this place at all cost!

It's so reassuring to know that I'll be safe eating the food and to have so many options. For drinks, we had the rosemary old fashioned (very smooth and herbaceous) and the sidecar (so juicy!).The bread plate was wonderful -- my favorite was the butter on the rolls, and my partner loved the rye. For dinner I had the pot pie, and I could cry how flaky and buttery the pastry was. I haven't had something so flaky since my diagnosis. It’s a real pity as this did ruin an experience we were looking forward to; it is unpleasant to be uncomfortable when you go for a meal. We will come back next year and hope it will be different.

I'm very rarely critical of restaurants. I usually only leave a review when I love something, but I was pretty disappointed. My mother has severe food allergies and a lot of anxiety about eating out. A few years ago, I took her twice to Niche and had wonderful experiences. The server made her feel safe and comfortable, clearly explained the menu, and there were many options for her to order. She visited again and I made sure to rebook it. The experience this time was much less good. On the good side, all dishes are clearly labelled with their allergens and the quality is mostly ok. The atmosphere is nice. On the bad side, almost all dishes now contain sulfites, where they previously didn't. My mother already felt bad for needing our large group to travel across town to eat at a specialty restaurant because of her needs, and then there were few options she could safely eat. Two of us had the mushroom soup, which was cold when it came out. Last time, the staff were very friendly and helpful, understood allergies, and knew the menu back to front. This time, our waiter was not at all helpful, knowledgeable, or attentive. He wasn't quite impatient, but certainly not sensitive to our questions and concerns. Niche is somewhat out of our way, but we were more than happy to go if they could do a good job of catering to specialised needs. However, it seems their ability to do so has diminished. For comparison, Cote Brasserie has more clear allergy information, more diverse options, better service, and for less cost.

Really looking forward to this for my 40th birthday. It took 20minutes for our drinks to come as they had been forgotten about. The burger was inedible. Bun was dry and cold and the burger was overcooked and tough. I had ordered a pink burger. The chips were also soggy and overcooked The worst part was that no one had come to ask how our food was so we couldn’t do anything about it. We had to attract the attention of the staff to tell them. They deducted 50% off my burger which I thought was really poor because I didn’t eat it. They also added a service charge which they looked really upset that I had asked them to remove. But if they had have checked our food was okay then they could have done something to put it right. The reason for not leaving fewer stars was that their chicken starter was incredible. I think we just went on a bad day. I would go back here again but I’d definitely stay clear of the burger. Not the experience I had wanted on my 40th birthday.

Best gluten free restaurant in London. Food was simply delicious, it is expensive but worth it. Recommend to book in advance since the place is quite small.

Pleasant but expensive. The food was nice but a little disappointing. My dish came with creamy mash but actually it was a drizzle rather than a proper portion. Same with the vegetables. Hungry a couple of hours later sadly. There were four of us and the bill was £200. Service was very slow too.

The table we'd booked months in advance was given to a party that arrived just before us. Service took forever, with very little check-in during the visit. I applaud the Gluten-free nature of the restaurant, but vegetarians and vegans may also require Gluten-free food, and this establishment caters very poorly for them, particularly the latter group. As such, all the vegan options were off the menu, especially infuriating considering that the last vegan meal in the whole restaurant had been given to the party that had usurped our booking. I appreciate that it must be hard, trying to maintain an even keel, as a server, when even the fundamentals of a functional restaurant - a booking system fit for purpose, actually having food that can be ordered - are failing. I applaud the servers for having the sheer iron will to try and make the experience, if not pleasant, then at least tolerable. Disappointingly, on this occasion, our dining encounter with Niche was neither. We shall not be returning.

Visited on Thu, 02 November 2023 Very, very special restaurant as 100% Gluten Free. Much appreciated the opportunity to drop in to the restaurant a few days before our visit to select our table. On arrival, our request to store our coats until the end of the meal, was courteously carried out. Tasty food, nicely presented. Generous portions. Professional, friendly service.

Niche was recommended by a friend, so while working away, a colleague and I went for dinner. The service was excellent, we were well looked after. My colleague had the asparagus for starters and I had the pate. It was so nice, and we were each able to sample the others. For main I had the burger, which was lovely, my colleague had the Schnitzel, again both were great. I highly recommend Niche.

Niche’s variety and quality of gluten free food is brilliant. My partner, being coeliac, was over the moon with the offering they had on the menu and I myself was very impressed with how great it was to its gluten counterparts. We weren’t, however, impressed with the service. The waitress seemed very disinterested and didn’t tend to our table frequently at all. The booking was made for my partner’s birthday, and I made a clear note of it, usually restaurant’s bring out cake for this type of occasion, and I thought it would be a great opportunity for the restaurant to bring out a GF cafe as this would never happen otherwise, but nothing ever came... We ordered dessert in case a candle would be added, nope, just a tiramisu with cling film still attached at the base. Food was great, service on the other hand not. Birthday occasions aren’t treated as any other restaurants do.

If you are celiac, lactose intolerant, can't eat dairy or have IBS this is the place to go. My partner has several of these conditions and it makes eating out very challenging, we have to be really careful with what we order or eat, Niche on the other hand put her totally at ease and was incredible! I can not rate this place more highly. The staff were excellent, the food was insanely good and was such a lovely place.

French bistro atmosphere with well presented dishes that cater to a variety of allergies. As a normally gluten eating person, there's an adjustment needed for flavour but really everything looks amazing and tastes really good. Loved the tripel beer.

Have wanted to visit here for many years as I'm a coeliac. The service was good but the food was underwhelming. The sunday roasts didn't have actual roast potatoes and the broccoli was undercooked. The NFC basket was dry and overcooked, the Mac cheese was tiny for the price. Overall very expensive and underwhelming. I've had better gf food and paid less.

I was really excited to dine at Niche, as their allergen-free kitchen is a fabulous idea. I felt very safe as an allergic person on holiday. The drinks were great. However, I did not enjoy the pasta and focaccia that I ordered. I wasn't able to finish it. Also, I felt ignored by staff as a solo diner. I deeply believe in their mission to serve safe food that many people can enjoy and I hope that they can continue to improve.

Fabulous cocktails but poor quality, expensive food. We both had the chicken pie and it was dry despite the side of gravy and there wasn’t much chicken in it. Altogether a very disappointing meal.

Sadly have to agree with previous reviewers. The concept is good but the product poor. We were the first people in the restaurant but offered the table at the back near the toilet. We had to argue hard to be moved to another table. We ordered a bread basket which I enjoyed as usually can’t order this due to my gluten intolerance. For mains my husband had a burger and I had a lamb dish. Both the burger and the lamb were very over cooked and I’d say inedible. Certainly the cutlery provided couldn’t cut through my lamb. The burger bun was poor and the bits of salad wilted and uninteresting. The fennel with my lamb was again so tough it couldn’t be cut through. Both the asparagus starter and the Eaton mess pudding were ok but nothing too special. For the price it was certainly not worth the effort to go to a specialist GF restaurant. Such a shame..

Wonderful restaurant and dining experience! The NFC Chicken is tasty and nicely spiced with complimentary sauces. Burger had great flavour and the sourdough GF bun adds a level of enjoyment for those of us who don’t often get a nice hamburger. Desserts choices are wide and varied. I thought the Eton Mess had rich texture and bold strawberry sauce to finish the meal. We’ll done! Will be back!
