Newton Grill comfort dining in St. Helens

Terrible service this evening, awful food. Went in to buy 3 burgers but at approx £16-20 each, to takeaway, we just can't justify it especially as one would be for a 6 year old (no kids menu). So bought fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings instead for £12 to go with food we have at home. Five min drive home and they were stone cold, sweet potato had no seasoning and the fries and onion rings were clearly from a packet. It all tasted bland, certainly not home cooked. I'd expect that for a couple of quid but not £12 and not when it's sold alongside £20 burgers. Very little customer service, some xmas decs up but tree lights were off etc. Called to complain about the food and no answer. Says it all. We used to love going here years ago (previous owner) but won't be back. Very disappointed.

I was looking for somewhere to take my neighbour for a birthday meal, and when he suggested we try the Newton Grill (not having checked the reviews first) I must admit I honestly thought, oh gosh. Thankfully, we were both pleasantly surprised and very pleased. We were professionally greeted by the young waitress (Izzy) who asked us if we had parked up in the car park, as we'd need to check in to allow us a 2 hour free parking. I'd give her extra marks for pointing this out as not many places do. The food was most certainly all very fresh and cooked to a very high standard, and came with a very flavoursome salad. The portions were very generous in size and nicely presented. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures of our meals as it looked so good that we just got stuck in. I was reluctant to order the steak as I have always been served steak over cooked and tough. After reading the menu, I thought I'd give them the benefit of doubt and try it. It was cooked to perfection, very succulent and a good size. My neighbour had the salt and pepper chicken from the curly wurly selection and he too thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall the experience was great, welcoming and Izzy was very professional, hence the 5* review. Very well deserved.

We decided to go out for a sat brunch...my son suggested Newton Grill &we wer so happy we had ....starters brilliant...&main meal steaks wer so good my daughter in law sed it was so good like a good film didn't want it to end &my son had a flat iron steak which was delicious &l had from special boad Cagun chich so tasty & brilliant ..now desserts which we don't usually hav ...the cheesecake was something to die for excellent chef food service & atmosphere...very reasonable priced...&as we wer leaving we sed we wud be back & we did nxt day for Sunday lunch so so good everything was cooked just right served brilliantly tomato soup the best ...on ur doorstep so brilliant &many many thanks u made it such a good w/end brilliant family business lovely staff big hugs to u all XX j & family

Had the shared chicken platter with the missus, it was huge, we couldn't finish it, full of taste with a few dips, highly recommended

First visit , a good menu with variety , I thoroughly enjoyed a roast chicken dinner followed by a biscoff cheesecake , piping hot food and good portion sizes.Definately recommended and will be going back later this month for my birthday

Popped in for lunch, by chance, as turned off m6. Waitress was lovely very apologetic when our order took a little longer as party of 8 had just ordered. Even offering a free drink as compensation. Food was nice and nicely presented too.

Popped in for a bite to eat, and again, the food was superb 👌 😋. We had beefburgers and chicken burgers just to see the difference . Both were excellent in presentation and taste . At the moment, we are working our way through the venue, and so far, not one has disappointed. We have emerged happy and satisfied. I personally like the atmosphere it is trying to create, warm ,slightly rustic. There is a disabled toilet and entrance is suitable for wheelchairs. Opening at 5 pm for evening service,all food is freshly cooked ,so be patient. It is worth it. Food for thought portions are big for smaller appetites, maybe have smaller options of your excellent menu? Keep up the good work ,we will be back.

Always great food from Gaz and his team.. This visit was a loaded steak for breakfast. Outstanding! Cooked perfectly for my taste. In recent visits, I've had the mixed grill and chicken sizzler, which were equally delicious. 5☆

What a great little restaurant! After looking online for somewhere to eat locally and reading the great reviews, we thought we would give it a try, and glad we did! Even though we didn’t book, the lovely lady managed to get us a table for the 5 of us. The staff were lovely, attentive and friendly. We had the “2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £30” and it was amazing. My kids had the burgers which they loved. Excellent presentation of food, great portions and the service was brilliant. Thank you to everyone for your excellent service and amazing food, we will definitely be back. 10 out of 10

Had to cancel a reservation elsewhere due to Newton Christmas lights switch on and what a result that was. Booked it of the hoof and it was a great decision, as a bit of a foodie didn't expect much although it was more a dinner than a restaurant but how wrong was I. Great food, arguably the best 3 meat Sunday dinner I have every eaten and I have been some top restaurants. Service was great, reasonably priced and would highly recommend it.

Second visit, first was a takeaway breakfast which was spot on and great quality ingredients. Went again today for lunch with wife, double clucking chicken burger and fries and chicken burrito, both dishes very well cooked and delicious. Also very generous portions. Service is always very friendly and I hope this place is around for a l9ng time as it a real gem.

Absolutely loved the restaurant. The lady working was very nice. The food was delicious. Had a full English breakfast, a bacon barmcake and a stake with avocado and poached egg. Will eat there again. Thank you

Just ordered a take away Sunday roast and burger for the first time. Big chunky beef on dinner, food was red hot on delivery and was very tasty. We were not disappointed and will definitely be ordering food again. Top class!!

Visited on a few occasions. Food is of a high standard, beautifully presented and served by very efficient staff. This establishment is well worth a visit.

A MUST try, we had flat iron steak, it has got to be the best steak I've ever eaten, cooked to perfection, my son had the newton classic burger, and he enjoyed ever bit of it. Compliments to the chef. Was worth every penny would definitely recommend to everyone.

Amazing food! Excellent value for money and the staff are really lovely! We did the steak night and was a little sceptical with the price being so good but the steak was cooked to absolute perfection and was so tasty! Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

The food is spot on, burgers fresh and tasty. The Sunday roasts are the best you can get, especially the gravy 😋

Been a few times for breakfast and dinner, everytime the food, service and overall experience was spot on. Theres a good variety to choose from off the menu and the service was quick. The staff are always smiling too which is always good marks. I will definitely be returning.

Lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere and amazing food. My partner ordered the mixed grill and I ordered the gammon and it was amazing value for money it was absolutely gorgeous and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend dropping in.
