Needham Chippy in Mid Suffolk

Friday night supper, we ordered 2 rock, 1 haddock, chips and mushy peas. Excellent food, white tasty fish, crisp batter, large portions. All freshly cooked to order, reasonably priced and served with a friendly smile. I would definitely recommend.

I visited the Chippy on 23rd February and ordered a large cod, medium cod and large chips to take home. The food was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Couldn’t ask for anything more

Normally use the other chip shop in Needham but as I live near this one and it was raining thought I’d save getting soaked. Was told 15 minute wait, sausage and chips were terrible. Worst I’ve had, won’t be returning.

Went in today about 12:45. Asked for Sausage and chips. Said would be 20 mins. I enquired at the time as to why it would take 20 mins and was told o could leave of o wanted. The man is rude aggressive and he got a mouth full back. One day he will speak to the wrong person like that and it will end bad for him. The place is dingy and filthy also. How this shop makes money if at all beggars belief.

The worst fish & chips I’ve had. Chips fried in old oil which you can taste. Fish is equally as bad.

Had chips here one lunchtime. Probably the worst I had ever eaten. The place looks dingy and the smell of stale oil permeates through the high street. Chip shops should smell so good that you want to go in I was being shown around by a local as we had just moved into the area, so the offer of chips seemed a nice thought. Never again. Do not get me started on the customer service !!

The owner is so rude it’s unbelievable he is still in business, this is not the only review about his attitude towards customers. The food is good, that’s why we have given him another chance after being rude before. He insists everyone entering his shop wears masks, fair enough, his staff do but he doesn’t. States 8pm for opening but regularly closes when he wants. Asked if I could have a large cod cooked and come back in 5 mins as busy and lots of people hanging around to which he started barking all sorts about how he closes at 8pm and I’ll have to wait inside. He has been known to be sexist

Just had sausage and chips from this place . When I went to eat them they had been absolutely smothered in salt and vinegar . Couldn’t eat them . Why did they put salt and vinegar on without asking ? We will not be using this place again . Good job I have bread in so I can have toast !! Absolute waste of hard earned money

Excellent fish and chips, the curry sauce not to bad either. We have been using Needham Chippy since we moved to Needham Market. Have to say best chippy in Suffolk. Staff very friendly and helpful, we pre-order our food always on time and excellent, friendly service. Been a regular customer but won't be going back as the owner is very rude and grumpy. Opening hours state until 8pm but if you dare go in beyond 6.45pm he bites your head off because he's already started clearing up and just wants to sell what's already cooked Won't be going back ,he's lost our custom.

The owner is an arrogant individual who was aggressively shouting at me for Having the temerity to look through his windows. His attitude is the reason people voted brexit.

They refused to serve us a single portion of chips and told us to go elsewhere purely because over two months ago we were told it was a 15 minute wait for chips and decided to go elsewhere. Pathetic reason to not serve a customer and they have now lost out on a whole groups worth of orders in the future because of how petty they decided to be. Avoid this shop.

Rude arrogant disgusting. Food as rubbish as the owner. Dirty oil with a stink about it that lingers around the high street.

Ordered Jumbo Sausage and portion of chips x 3, charged £15.00. Also tried to order curry sauce but they had run out. Very over priced in my opinion, was thinking if they still charged me for the two curry sauces in error or for large chips with each meal certainly weren’t large portions if it was.

We’d been to this chip shop a few times, before and during Covid Lockdown. Chips OK but not wonderful (some over cooked, hard and sharp to eat).Today we started queuing outside at lunchtime - it was 12:00 - just when they were supposed to open. No sign of anyone to serve though fryer going. Groups of use queuing - some walked away. Sign still said close though door unlocked. Tried calling to them, banging and ringing doorbell and ringing phone. No answer. Eventually a guy came but ignored us all. Later said something about another 15 minutes like it was our fault. No apology or anything. We all walked away. Awful service. He lost a load of trade and I’ll never go back. Doesn’t deserve the business. Very rude!

Great fish and chips, generous portions. We were doing a collection for us and neighbours during COVID-19, very helpful, bagged them all separately adding names on each different families. Very polite, great value. Simon

A case of twice bitten here, the owner is rude and the chips are raw also not the best chippy as they don't do chip butties or mushy peas

Went on a weekday evening, so the place was quiet. No food left sitting in the warming shelf, our food was cooked fresh to order. Prices were maybe a little steep, but I can respect that the man's got to eat and it's not easy. Not sure what the other reviews about rude staff are talking about, the guy serving (the owner) was very friendlyThe sausages and chips were good. Standard fare for a local chippy, nothing special but still very niceNo mayo sachets!

Just moved to Needham and have tried both chip shops out, they are close in quality but the bloke in this shop is horrible and everyone I’ve spoken to has said the same, hence why I will use the one down the lane where they are lovely.Just as well he wasn’t abusive to me or he would be wearing those tongs as a nose ring.

So I drove quite a way to the chip shop to get food it was closed, I then put a review up saying it states he is open drove all that way and he was closed! We then thought we would give it another chance! When I strived he asked where I was from and said he wont serve me because I wrote that review! I'm sorry but grow up! I didnt say anything bad about your food or you just that we travelled all that way to be turned away when it stated it was open! I didnt lie and you refused to serve me and humiliate me in front of a room full of customers!! I wont ever visit you again and will tell everyone I know to avoid you!

I have to say that this is one of the best Fish and Chip shops In Suffolk, always consistent quality and great service.

Sausages were like battered paste. Chips awful. Expensive. None of this is a problem as we definetly will not return.

Quite simply the best chippy in town, really delicious food and nice freindly service as always,top chips.

A good quality fresh fish shop all orders cooked while you wait to ensure a great quality meal, all portions are good at a typical average price for fish and chips. a service with a smile and nice chatty staff who appreciate your custom.

Bang average/poor and no mushy peas - I will not be using again soon. Chips were soggy and really poor quality, the fish was freshly cooked but quite small for the price.

Went in to ask a question and was met with hostility and abused, swearing and calling us names I cannot repeat. Trading standards has been informed.

I saw a microwave though the window and wondered what food they used it for, the guy behind the counter saw me and told me to come inside, i went in and asked what he used the microwave for and he was very abusive to me and tried to fight me with his tongs, he called me a f**king p**k and c**t I told him I was just wondering and he was very abusing and aggressive.

Nothing wrong with the quality of the Cod & Chips Needham Chippy serves, I've been multiple times and always been very nice, just be prepared to pay the price, it's quite expensive compared to other alternatives nearby.

they do not really cater for eating in,only one table that you share with those waiting for their order. .No hot drinks available and linited range of cans. Good size fish and chips but eaten from a plastic box with a small fork

Firstly asked if they took card which the guy serving grunted no and we couldn't understand what he said when we asked where a local cash machine was. We grabbed some odd cash from the car as all we wanted was a small portion of chips and a battered sausage. This came to £4 which I think is a but much. The portion of chips was tiny as was the sausage. Cooked ok but nothing special. There is another chippy in Needham which is much nicer so I'd recommend going there instead!

Super little chip shop which is very clean and staffed by lovely polite guys. Good idea to call ahead with your order as everything is freshly cooked therefore there can be quite a wait...but it's worth it.

rubbish, rude man,. went in chip shop and he said to my partner read the sign DARLING! Even though the sign said frying now and the door was open. lock the door then!

First visit to this chip shop, in Needham. Everyone was pleased with their fish and chips and quantity. Very good.

Lovely, lightly battered fish and chips. Was quite busy when we went but I always take this to be a good sign and it was! Recently rated as one of the top fish and chips in Suffolk in local newspaper. Will definitely be coming back.

Needham Chippy was recently named in a survey as one of the top 12 fish and chip shops in East Anglia and its easy to see why. The chips are fresh, hot, crisp, lovely. The fish, cooked fresh to order is delicious, and not drowned in batter as you sometimes find. Perfectly cooked. So far we've tried the haddock and the scampi. Just wondering what to have next ? Brilliant.
