This evening I visited this restaurant with my cousin and I wish I had some photos - but I just lost myself!.. the food was so good! So okay the portions are not for people who have excessive portion requirements but for us normies- this food is sublime! The papaya salad was straight out of northern Thailand and was so spicy! The beef Panang with plain noodles was just too good! And the white wine burgundy was the best white I have had at any restaurant! The staff were helpful but not too overbearing and left us to it!! I was really surprised at my meal, the last reviews were so bad!!! But having been to Thailand so many times.. this is authentic food! If you need super large portions - order double!

Myself and partner were excited to try somewhere in the local area we hadn't tried before, we got a takeway using the 10% discount they had on offer. Unfortunately our meal was very disappointing - small portions given the high prices for some dishes, the curry was very oily, the prawn toast were tiny. I called the restaurant to double check if we'd been given the right dish as the portion was so small, £18.95 for 5 prawns?! £8 for 4 pieces of tiny prawn toast, the curry was very oily and not at all creamy (see photos). When I called the restaurant they simply stated the dishes are the correct portions and have always been served like this. The high prices do not reflect the quality of quantity you're given.

Very good service from staff. Always refilling glasses of water and very friendly service. Food was excellent 👍🏽 we both had green curry. I asked for extra chillies and a bit of a hotter sauce and they delivered. Wasn’t too expensive either for a starter and main each ☺️

Tuesday 30th April and we were spending the evening in the Surbiton area and we knew exactly where we would be going for dinner. It was an opportunity to revisit this restaurant which we have enjoyed on previous visits. Having made a reservation we were looking forward to our dinner and some delicious food. With high expectations we turned up at the appointed time and were shown to our table, where the menus were already in place. We ordered two bottles of Chang Beer 330ml, £4.95 each while we decided what food to order. In the end we went for chicken Pad Thai, £10.95 and a chicken green curry £11.95 and a portion of Jasmine rice £3.95. When the food was served the Pad Thai was beautifully presented and looked good. However, it tasted a bit overly fishy, perhaps the chef had gone overboard with the fish sauce or shrimp paste it totally overshadowed the dish. When served the curry looked a bit oily and not the usual creamy sauce. The chicken was hard and chewy, disappointing. The quality of food has certainly gone down hill since our previous visit. We were disappointed with the food, it did not live up to expectations. The total cost of the meal was £40.45 which included a 10% service charge applied to the bill, certainly not value for money.

Firstly the place was so packed that you couldn’t get anyone’s attention, we ordered and food came and even though we had ordered the set menu the portion size was the same for what would of been for one person and we had done for two and paid a lot more. Nightmare to get drinks or ask them for alternative’s and then at one point they said we need to hurry up as they need to wash up. This was a Friday night and only about 10pm. The food wasn’t great at all, we refused to pay the service charge which she told us we had to but we did not. On the way out the lady said please don’t come back, which was shocking.

I used to be a regular at this restaurant pre-covid. After a few years away, I was excited to return to this cosy local restaurant. Unfortunately, we were left hugely disappointed. The main and most noticeable difference is the small portion sizes and low quality of meat. Not that long ago, I remember the beef massaman being a large, generous bowl of tender, high-quality beef. Now it is small, watery with thin strips of beef. The tom yum soup used to be a huge bowl filled with chicken and aromatics, now it genuinely felt like leftovers that had been cooked days before. I understand the cost of living has meant that restaurants have taken a hit but to charge more for lower quality product is not right. It's such a shame because this used to be lovely little local gem.

This has been a favorite for some time but portion sizes have become unreasonably small. We spent £110 on a take away meal tonight and the chicken and duck meals had 5 thin slithers of meat. Costs may be increasing but I am disappointed in this and won’t be going back until I hear some good reviews again.

Friday evening 18th November we visited this restaurant for dinner. It was part of a trip down memory lane as we used to visit this restaurant when we lived in the area. We moved away seven years ago, we were back for a long weekend. It was was so good to see that this old favourite restaurant was still open, so we made a reservation for dinner. We turned up and were shown to our table and presented with the menus. We ordered two Chang beers as we decided what food to order. We decided on Yum Neua, strips of sirloin beef salad, a green Thai chicken curry and two portions of Jasmine rice. As we waited for our food to be served, it was an opportunity to admire the tasteful decor of Thai ornaments and knick knacks. Our food was beautifully presented, but more importantly it was delicious, we shared the meals. The salad certainly packed a punch. The owner, a delightful lady, came over and had a chat with us, she was pleased to hear that we had returned after years away. We really enjoyed the evening, stunning food, warm and welcoming staff, could not ask for more. As this is a small restaurant and very popular, would definitely recommend making a reservation.

The only hiccup we had was placing the order over the phone for pick up and not through a delivery service (Deliveroo… etc) but completely my mistake!! The lady that greeted us for pick up was very friendly - taking the order to our car… (thank you!) We will certainly be ordering again - and hopefully dining inside! 7 very happy customers! We treated ourselves to the big set menu so got to try a wider range of their food and it was delicious, with lovely textures and tastes throughout (loved the sea bass and Tom yum soup). Only downside was the drinks... We had a couple of spirits and mixers but both spirits were tiny - little more than a dribble in the bottom of the glass, so hard to taste and poor value. A shame as it took the shine off a lovely meal and an easy thing to get right.

It’s often a good sign of a popular place when it succeeds in remaining trading for more than 10yrs ~ especially in a location which has seen frequent changes in operators and establishments. This particular site had changed hands several times prior to Nay Thai moving in.. but now after at least 5 years trading in Surbiton, it has developed a half decent reputation. It’s a quaint little restaurant inside, with low-level lighting, kind and friendly service and good quality traditional Thai food. It’s not overly complicated, nor overpriced, nor overstated ~ it’s just decent food well served ~ this may sound basic, but sometimes it’s just great to find a place which isn’t part of a chain, that cares about what it does and does it all quite well, without pulling any punches.Recommended..

My daughter liked her starter - vegetable spring rolls were excellent and prawn crackers. I also enjoyed my Thai fish cakes. Her Pad Thai was OK but my sizzling prawn was under-cooked for my taste. Atmosphere was OK - but given the size of the place (small) was not as cozy as I would have expected. Bill was higher than expected and I didn’t feel I’d received value for money. Having been to Nay Thai over the last few years and always having had the most enjoyable time, clearly this is now the end. Called today to make our usual 8pm reservation to be told “no, we only do 6.30 or 9pm and you must be gone by 9pm if you take the early sitting on the weekends “. To which I replied 6.30 is too early and 9pm is too late (we use babysitters). I continued to say clock watching isn’t an enjoyable dining experience and why has it changed. They claimed it’d been this way for the last 5 months ! This is a complete lie as we’ve been on a Friday and Saturday night at sat down at 8pm. They then continued to say as its a small restaurant they need to have two sittings to enjoy maximum capacity. What they should’ve been honest and said is “we want to make as much money as we can” ,as clearly this is the case. Umm this being at the cost to the poor customers who are on a timer. So suffice to say we will not be frequenting our once favourite Thai. We have booked to go to Thai Secret just down the road. I’ll leave a review on (hopefully) this friendly , accommodating restaurant once we’ve been.

Unappreciative that we had a baby although our baby had been going to this restaurant before they even took ownership/ and loving it. They dismissed our needs and made us feel very akward. Every slight noise made was looked over at us with huffs we were not allowed to be a family eating out. It was an awful experience. Even asking for the bill was a problem. My little daughter asked for 2 extra jelly beans(they come with the bill) was told no sorry! She is 18m most places do there upmost to cater at this restaurant did before. You really cannot go wrong here. Traditional Thai food that’s consistent and reliable and served with quiet confidence and not a little grace. The khanom jeeb is great as a starter as are the Thai soups and salads. We tend to go for the tofu/veg curries (green, red or Penang) - they always have a bit of a kick without being overpowering. The wines are perfectly OK and the prices quite reasonable. It’s a small restaurant and so feels a little “cosy” - but it’s popularity is undoubtedly a sign that it’s a good choice. I recommend it!

My husband and I visit Nay Thai a lot for the lunch menu and we love it, never had a bad meal. We have both been so busy recently and were craving a ‘Nay’ so we decided to order a takeaway mistakingly thinking it would be just as delicious. Boy were we wrong...it was horrid. They got the starter wrong and I ended up with prawn tempura instead of prawn toast. It was greasy and tasteless. Our £3 Thai prawn crackers was 1/4 the size of the lunchtime bowl we normally get and they were stale. My Pad Thai was worse than the £3 offering from a greasy spoon in East London and my husband did not get what he ordered but some noodle dish called pad siew with a dollop of chilli oil on the side. We left most of our rather expensive meal and my husband emailed the restaurant to say how unhappy we were and considering we are regular patrons and are known there, we are disappointed 4 days later to have received no reply. There is a 10% discount on takeaway orders and they do not deliver so how can this be so so bad when their in dining offering is so so good? I am at a loss and it has put me off going there...we will be trying the new Thai restaurant on Ewel Road next time.

We have been to Nay Thai for a week day lunch. The dishes were really good and a starter and a main for less than 10 pounds was really good value for money. My favourite dish was the Chicken Tom Kha Gai soup - perfection!

The starters are fantastic and the mains even better. Great for a group dinner and perfect for couples! My friends and I absolutely love it! Give it a try. Also very reasonable prices.

Lunch here on a Sunday was great. The price of the menu makes it very affordable. Service was friendly and the place was not crowded, so we enjoyed our meal.

Mixed started was amazing the prawn toast was exceptional but not Thai and spring rolls are Chineese, However with this said it was delicious. Our papya salad with prawn was almost as good in this restaurant as in Thailand but needs lots more spice. Green curry with Jasmin right cx also was very close to the real deal. Probably one of the better Thai restaurants we have been. Great price not too pricey and for £50 a bottle of beer glass of the large wine without meal was certainly great value. Service is a shame that one guy lets the restaurant down. Not enough to put us off we are definitely going back with friends and family

Came in one Tuesday evening and place was surprisingly busy. Nevertheless, after some consulting with the plan for that night, they managed to fit us in for two hours and the food didn't disappoint. Big big serving of steak for my beef salad and as befits Thai cuisine, everything was delicately fragranced. Attentive smiley staff. waited a while for our mains but maybe they were waiting for me to finish my (quite lovely) satay. So can't really fault.

The food here is fantastic. However the younger Thai waiter was rude to my colleagues I was with. Made a bad impression for their first visit. He is always very cold, and stone like. No real effort made. The other older guy is great. Go for the food - just be wary of the service and you will enjoy.

Never been a huge fan of Thai food but we'd try this place on our friends recommendation who usually order there takeaway service. When we arrived I was glad we booked as for a Thursday night it was packed! We started with some prawn cracker nibbles then I had the duck spring rolls (new addition to the menu) followed by a Thai green curry which was very flavoursome. My wife had the prawn tempura followed by Pad Namman Hoi - a meat and veg stir fry with a side order of Pad Thai. Our guest also raved about their food. By the house red wine - a tempranillo - was good value at £15 and very drinkable.I also noted that service wasn't automatically included in the bill which was a nice touch

We're regular lunchtime visitors to Nay Thai and always have a good meal. They have a fixed price lunchtime menu which is extensive and great value. Always friendly service with a smile

A short stroll from our daughters apartment is this lovely Thai restaurant, where four of us enjoyed a delicious and truly authentic thai meal. I enjoyed a well spiced beef dish(Pad prik) my wife loved her Pad Thai with chicken and the others highly praised the food. The mix of entrée/starters were also delicious. This is a small place but has a warm and welcoming ambience, and comfortable seating. Apart from one surly waiter the staff very professional and smiling, all from the land of smiles. It is a terrible shame that the surly waiter could not be like the other staff. Still I would rate this lovely little place highly, its a five out of five.

Second time I've dined here since contributing reviews to Tripadvisor. The food we enjoyed was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. The restaurant is quite small and therefore can get quite warm, so bear this in mind when deciding what to wear.

Very nice and varied menu , freshly cooked and lovely staff. Small so always feels nice and full , they also do take away but you have to pick it up yourself.,

We dined here today with some friends and really enjoyed our evening. We ordered two set menus and few items from their la Carte menu. All absolutely delicious and bursting with flavours. The restaurants is privately owned and every time I have been there, the owner always pops in to check how things are going. Highly recommend.

Hello! This is my best bet of contacting you, I believe your pub alarm has been going off non stop for a few days now. I live across the street, tried to call the pub but have a feeling you have closed. I asked 101 and they asked me to try and contact you directly, I am not on social media and can't find an email address, please can someone pass this on, and have a look? The noise is starting to worry the neighbours! All the best, Emily Kuipers
