Superb food. Waiting staff extremely attentive and polite. All made for a great evening!

Went with my son as a treat, we'd been struggling to find somewhere we really liked locally, then he liked it so much we took my wife the next day. Good food, reasonably priced with very nice staff. They were attentive but definitely not over-attentive, leaving us plenty of time for each course but coming when they saw you make eye contact - and of course there are bar staff you can go to if you're waiting. My son had the lemon chicken whilst I had the chicken in chilli sauce the first time and chicken fried rice the second. The portion sizes are big, we had too much rice both times and left stuffed to the gills, very satisfied. Complimentary prawn crackers too. A great meal, thanks!

Lovely place to eat and to stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the bar/restaurant area are really nice and cosy. The Chinese food was absolutely lovely and there was lots on offer, waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice and simple. The lovely lady who runs the who establishment was so friendly, helpful and kind, she is there from early till late and really made our stay a pleasant one. Thank you so much!

We ate here in May. My wife had just come out of hospital and wasn't feeling too well and the owner was so helpful in suggesting lighter options. The chef cooked everything to our specifications. Everything we couldn't eat was packed up to take home. The food was delicious and plentiful. The owner was welcoming. It was a chilly day and she found my wife a seat by a radiator to keep warm. Couldn't fault the place. Shame we couldn't return as we were passing and live too far away.

Ate here last night and the food was delicious and the service was even better! Lovely quaint Chinese decorations and the attached pub "The Plough Inn" has a lovely traditional English pub/Chinese fusion decor. The lady that manages the restaurant (apologies didn't get her name) is the friendliest and most accommodating person, when we checked into our air bnb on the Friday at 4pm we went across to check the place out but they weren't open until 5pm, however the lady saw us and opened up early just for us! Highly recommend for just a drink or for a delicious meal!

Family birthday meal 4 adults and 2 children. I love it here. It's the best Chinese Restaurant that I have ever eaten in. Mrs Chu makes you feel very welcome and the staff are lovely. We had the banquet and the food was delicious 😋 and plentiful.

Hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants we have ever been to, staff were amazingly friendly as soon as you arrived to the moment you leave. Prices are perfectly reasonable for the portions and quality of food they serve, all of which is full of flavour! We tried the sharing platter of starters as well as half a cripsy duck, all of which were perfect. The mains are equally as good, and the lady who served us boxed up the leftovers for us to take home. Thank you to Mr Chu for his truly amazing cooking, Mrs Chu, for the wonderful service and to all the waitresses for an all-around great time! Highly recommend the sweet & spicy garlic dishes as well as the chow mein which was fantastic.

What a lovely place & Mrs chu is by far the nicest woman I met that day super friendly & helpful even let us a free breakfast, plenty of choice 4 different choices of bread fresh fruit the works, rooms were great too, perfectly clean & everything we needed, would love to stay again 🥰

May aswell of been talking to the lamp post out the front when trying to order. they gave no give on the menu, asked for chip and a portion of curry sauce, I may as well asked for the plans for the next moon mission. Food was very nice don't get me wrong. Very unsatisfactory interaction with the owner.

Chicken curry was the beat I've had in years. Rest of food was OK. Waited & waited for a waitress eventually asked for desert menu which never came. So went to leave and had to wait again to pay.

Visited whilst away on holiday the food is superb real value for money we had the set banquet meal for 2 there was so much food cooked to perfection and piping hot Really nice place with great customer service it's definitely worth a visit if in the area you won't be disappionted! We will be back when next on holiday for sure

I’ve been to this place numerous times, however it’s gone so down hill which is such a shame, staff in hoodies, jeans and trainers and the food was so bland unlike a takeout a coupe of months before. The spring rolls didn’t taste of anything, Mrs chu is so lovely and tentative but I won’t be rushing back xx

The food is to die for. Such a variety of dishes with generous portions and everything we tried was hot and cooked to perfection. I thoroughly recommend the house sharing platter for two. It comes with a nice balance of starters which complement each other nicely. The portion is quite generous though so keep it in mind when ordering extras. The staff were friendly polite and attentive. As soon as you needed anything a member of staff was there in seconds and every request we asked for was met within a minute. The place is a beautiful fushion of eastern and western culture. I would recommend to anyone. NB. It is very popular so it may pay to be early if you wish to visit near peak times. P.s. They also do takeaway as well. Whilst both eating in and takeaway are good, the lovely atmosphere, the decorations and the friendly staff make it a must visit for me.

This was our first time trying Mr Chu and decided on the takeaway option. The whole experience was extremely positive, from the friendly voice on the end of the phone to the high quality, tasty food. I was so impressed by the interior that have already decided our next visit will be to dine in the restaurant and soak up the atmosphere. It's a 10/10 from us.

I've eaten Chinese food many times in many places over many years, Chinatown Soho London, Chinatown Toronto, Chinatown Manchester, Chinatown San Francisco, so I can claim to have some idea of what good Chinese food can be like. This place used to be quite good but lately, September 2022, it needs to pick itself up A LOT. Spring rolls had basically only one constituent, really stringy something or other. Fresh vegetables and ginger had pieces of ginger that were so large they wouldn't fit in one's mouth and they were so thick they were punishment to eat. Sweet and sour chicken: the meat was so tough and dry it could not be identified (agreeing with another reviewer), chicken here is supposed to be a delicacy, tender and tasty,. This was neither, I suspect the battered balls had been fried more than once. A Szechuan chicken dish contained chicken but the other constituents were the universal sweet sauce present in the other offerings, including large chunks off what was probably the same onion. Missing were the chili flakes and ground Szechuan peppercorns that define this dish. A few years ago this place was far above this in standard but now it's sunk down to the level of mediocre small town Chinese restaurants that one can find in most small UK towns. I was sad and apalled, as was my partner. I think the chef just could not care less or wasn't competent. I will regretfully give the place a rest.

We ate here tonight following a recommendation from the campsite where we are staying. We could not recommend this place high enough! The service and food was outstanding, very friendly staff and very tasty food. We will definitely go back if we are in the area again.

Visited last night. Appalling service from young female staff who huddled around the til area chatting. Too much messing about with their hair and putting lip salve on to even notice customers trying to get their attention. The Chinese lady who runs this is so friendly and clearly conscientious so her staff are ruining it for her as we won’t be returning. Very disappointed but more disappointed for the lovely lady who puts her efforts into this business.

Been on several occasions before and was pleased over all but unfortunately th8sctime the food was a little bit lacking and most of the dishes we had were under welming.

My first time visiting the restaurant. The service was a little on the slow side, however, understandably it was a busy Saturday evening. As a result the appetisers were not as hot as they could have been. The food was well cooked and would recommend a visit.

Had a lovely meal at Mr Chu's tonight for my wife's 40th birthday. We had a large round table in a separate area which felt nice and private. Service was friendly but a little slow, although it seemed some of the staff were quite new. We didn't mind this as we were in no rush and Mrs Chu said we had the table for the night. The food was all tasty, well cooked and plentiful. We all left happy and full!

Fantastic place to order from and would highly recommend. Have recently moved to the area and was made aware of Mr Chu’s by a couple of locals so thought to give it a try. Lots to choose from on their menu and always good quality food whenever I’ve collected. The price is a little higher than competitors but I’d say it’s worth the drive out to Hayton for the difference.

We have visited Mr Chu's restaurant on several occasions and have always had a very warm welcome. The atmosphere and decor are superb and authentically Oriental. The staff are very good, polite and efficient. The food is always up to expectations and ample quantity. A most extensive menuand a good selection of wines. We always look forward to visit Mr Chu.

Staff are nice.. BUT wow the food is so bland and rubbery, don't think they have heard of seasoning..... out of 4 of us, 2 had a very bad 24 hours, my 9 year old son well both ends within 5 hrs... Me both ends with 7 hrs.. We had the Chicken.. I would avoid this place if you like nice tasting food and not pieces of rubber and no taste... Food Poising can happen anywhere but this place wow food really bad.... Very over priced for what you get...
