Mr Chippy in Torfaen

i went here today just to get chips and payed 3 quid for them in a tray they looked like they had been hanging around they most certinely wasent just cooked only to be told thats the vinegar there sitting in does that as i returned to ask about it thats what the owner i presume told me that was cooking the chips. anyways he changed them over for me and this lot was fine proper chips crispy and golden not like the 1st lot now why didnt they serve them the first time.

Usually our go to chippy for lunch, but after 20 minutes of eating from there, my stomach started to hurt and I was rushing to get to the bathroom. Didn’t get what we actually ordered, I got additional things which I didn’t order and my partner was missing items, I assume they had someone new working as they usually get our order bang on. Battered sausages have got worse personally

I visited Mr Chippy as it has been one of my favourite chippies and I usually tell most people about them. I Bought a small portion of chips like I usually have done and found that the portion was smaller than they usually are. The chips were nearly cooked and some were undercooked. Not impressed as their standard is usually a good portion and nicely cooked. I will give them one more try soon and hope they get back to the usual value for money good chips they usually do.

Chips were bland in taste & lots of black bits so obviously not cleaned well & if your a big person don’t attempt to sit in as there hardly any room to sit between the chair & table because they are unmovable, quite upsetting to try and sit down. Restaurants are supposed to be for all not just slim people.

We have had breakfast in here, and the odd bad of chips. And the food is second to none. Absolutely fantastic and they aren’t shy with the portions either ! Our favourite chippy

Good value food ,reasonably priced. Quick service and a pleasant place to take friends or family .Staff are always helpful and pleasant.

We needed something to eat in a hurry. It was about 4pm to 4.30pm and we decided to go to Mister Chippy, who we were told did a great gish and chips....how wrong can you be. The person who served me looked tired and unenthusiastic. I asked for two pies and a portion of chips, ended up with one pie, one pastie and chips. Soggy pie, soggy pastie and the chips were bloody awful. They tasted as if they had been cooked hours ago and just kept in the warmer. Soggy, greasy and not pleasant to eat, needless to say, most of it went in the bin. Based on this experience, my advise is to give this place a wide berth.

We go here every week for a cooked breakfast and it is always first class. You can't beat 2 full breakfasts and 2 cups of tea for £10.20.The staff are always pleasant and welcoming and the service is first class. I would recommend the cafe to anyone.

Have come here a few times with my parents over the years. Never had any problems and today wa the same. Me and my boyfriend ordered fish bites, chips and one with garden peas and one with beans. The portion was very good. There was 4 or 5 fish bites and plenty of chips. I will say a can of pop was £1.30 which is a tad pricey but overall we really enjoyed our meal.

I brought Two bags of chips and I small sausage they’re were dry and hard it’s was horrible. I was disappointed I was looking for having for my tea😂😂😂😂😡

Lovely staff at Mr chippy. Reasonably priced, quick service. You can eat in, takeaway or they do deliveries now.

Came here for a takeaway during this awful lockdown. Had fish and chips which were cooked to perfection and staff were so friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work guys.

Whilst visiting this chip shop today we decided on having cod bites chips and curry sauce which tasted very bland, the texture of the curry was gritty. After a few attempts we managed to get attention of the waitress, who then brought the manager over. I would like to say as someone who suffers with severe mental health and was wearing a hidden disability badge that he could clearly see he made me feel like something of the bottom of his shoe. I was left feeling embarrassed and anxious to leave the establishment. The lack of managerial skills was disgusting, communication and respect for customers was disgraceful as he implied we was trying to get free food. Never in my life I have ever had this experience please be aware and avoid this business before making a complaint. DISGUSTING!

Fish was almost raw and chips were very undercooked. Have been a regular but no more. Would have taken back but now closed for the day. Don't bother.

1st time I tried a delivery order with my favourite chipshop & it didn't disappoint! Beef & onion pie a fishcake & regular chips it was a fast delivery & everything was piping hot 10/10! Will deffo order again! 😊

Prices are comparable with other local chippies. Service is good and portions are always too large for me

Just been to this restaurant for a takeaway and got a small bag of chips. Most of the chips were rock solid and not edible absolutely disgusting, do not eat here.

Nice friendly staff. Meal cooked to order and the fish was delicious .Tried the Chinese curry sauce and it was quite spicy which I liked .Chips were OK . I have had better but the fish ,curry sauce,service and price would be a reason to eat here again.

we went for lunch last week,the service was very good staff welcomed you as soon as you sat down, we were served straight away,also we did not have to wait long for our meals and when they came they were very large portions,in fact i could not eat all mine but they were lovely.Also reasonably priced and good value, i would recomend this for any fish and chip lover.

Visited Mr Chippy in Cwmbran again yesterday My wife asked would it be possible to have a smaller portion as her appetite is not as good as it wasLovely waitress explained that the cod were all more or less the same size but it would be no problem to have a smaller portion of chipsWhen meals came, fish was lovely,batter crispy and the white meat of fish succulent and tastyChips were also excellent, crisp on outside and fluffy in middle We always try and eat here when visiting Cwmbran if we can get a table. Having heard that this busy and popular place was considering the introduction of vegan-friendly options to their menu, i was fortunate enough to be in the area and so stopped off to investigate.Since choosing to maintain a vegan diet, one of the few treats i have really missed is 'Chippy' chips, as often it isn't seen as economically viable for busy chip shops to dedicate a seperate fryer for vegan options.Anticipation levels were high as i awaited my order of double battered vegan-friendly sausage, chips, onion rings and curry sauce.I was not disappointed, the chips were cooked to perfection, and were topped with a tasty and spicy curry sauce. The onion rings were freshly prepared and both they and the sausages were coated in a really light and crispy batter.Initially the vegan options are being trialled on certain days so i would check ahead to avoid disappointment. But with positive feedback i believe more menu options are being looked at for the future. I for one will be back whenever i can find the excuse.

After waiting to be served for a while, the staff were pleasant. However, although the fish was lovely with nice crispy batter, the chips were awful with no taste whatsoever. Every chip shop should know how to do a good chip these days. Overall it was an average meal and the food wasn't fatty which was a good point but we won't be rushing back.

After the long wait one could understand when the food was crisp to the bone. The chips were bad the beans cold. Will not come here again.

Having been here before i was looking forward to a nice fish and chip meal. This time I'm sad to say that the meal was horrible. The fish was dried out so much that i had to leave most of the batter and the fish was also very dry. Most of the chips were very small and hard. This has put me off eating there again.

The Price was what you expect for the portion which was £3.50 . The Chips were of good quality and the portion was good. The Irish curry was one of the best I've tasted.

The amount of times I have been to Cwmbran shopping centre I had never discovered this place until a few weeks ago. We started by having a portion of chips and sharing them in the car. As the chips were so delicious we decided today to have a sit down meal. My mother is in a wheelchair but although the seating area is small the staff made room for its accommodation. The food was as delicious as our takeaway chips. The meal was very large and hot. Couldn't finish it all. The place was nice and clean. The staff were really friendly and great with my mother. My mother was really pleased, she is very difficult normally, so it must be good. If your ever in Cwmbran shopping and hungry I'd recommend this chippy.

3 adults 1 child, £27!!! Got charged £5.20 for a tuna jacket potato! £2 more than if I had takeaway! Therefore, £2 for half a slice of lettuce, 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber! All the other meals we overpriced too, as well as the drinks...£2.20 for a small coffee. Ripping off the customers, just no justification for those prices. No wonder the big franchises are taking over the high streets and shopping centres.

Situated in Cwmbran Shopping Centre this is a traditional fish and chip shop which is really popular. There is limited seating inside and this siting is fixed and cannot be moved. If you are a larger person the seating arrangements are not comfortable. Typical chip shop fayre available but it’s known for its fish and chips served either with mushy peas or garden peas. Good quality fish served in a tasty batter large portions.

Had a nice meal here of cod and chips. Fish was ok but chips were a bit cold. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Used the take away and received a good meal for a reasonable price. Paid a bit more for a drink than expected, but was served quickly by pleasant staff.

I go here once a week the service and the food is excellent there is a big choice of food on the menu from chips and lovely curries also jacket potato’s there is also a good range of children’s food

We had not been in here for about 2 years, so thought we give it ago. Mince beef Pie, chips, gravy and Fish, chips, curry sauce. Chips were not that nice, tasted fishy, the pie was very peppery and took the taste away the mince beef (didn't finish the pie) and gravy was a bit too salty for my liking. Wife said hers was just ok. When we mentioned about the pie, he told us the make of it and never heard of it. So must of been a cheep pie. For the price you pay in here you would think they would have the best quality food, but no.It will probably be another 2 years before we go back again, if we even bother again.

Quickly took our 3 children here for dinner after shopping in Cwmbran. Most tables were full but we found some space and they took our order from the table! Staff could not be better. Food was excellent. Incredible value for money. Many restaurants could learn from the customer experience at Mr Chippy!

When my partner and I decided to take a shopping trip, we popped in for fish and chips . the meal was gorgeous! Could not have asked for anything more delicious. The staff were polite and pleasant. We will be visiting again next time!

I visited here on two occasions had breakfast first time which was lovely and great value. Had the code and chip second time batter was soggy but fish was delicious as we're the chips very tasty. My grandson had a kids cheeseburger & chip that he devoured. Tasty food reasonable prices fast service and nice staff. It's always busy. My only complaint is the menu is very big so it was hard to decide what to have. Will visit again when I'm in Wales

Myself and a mate popped in here on the off chance last week and fair play the food was very good and plentiful. Corned beef pie, mushy peas, chips and gravy and fish and chips with mushy peas, plus two milky coffees which were ok. We thought the drinks were a tad expensive but apart from that all good.

Called here for lunch yesterday. Wasn't disappointed. Scampi, chips and mushy peas. Absolutely delicious. Huge portions. Absolute value for money. The whole place was spotlessly clean and the lady who served us was lovely. Will definitely return.

Only really enjoy this place for fish and chips. Have tried all the others but always come back to here. Friendly staff and fresh food.

Llamado para una comida después de un día estresante. El pescado, patatas fritas y guisantes blandos eran tan seca que apenas traga. Pasta de pescado como bazofia. Mi marido comió aproximadamente la mitad de la comida, yo apenas comí un barrio. Mi marido me dijo el gerente de mirar a la cintura en los platos y me dijeron que la próxima vez que venía en él preparaban todo fresco. Debería haber sido esta vez fresca. Sin un par de libras de compensación. Que debería haberse negado a comer y pedir un cambio, pero después de un día estresante ya no podían afrontar las complicaciones con otros clientes. No entraré de nuevo para nuestra (comida fresca) se efectúa para viajar a Pontypool, donde la comida es siempre fresca y una fracción del precio.

El Sr. Chippy ha sido un largo tiempo favorita. Ideal para gente cwmbran Mi favorito es su picaduras cod y patatas fritas. ¡Delicioso!

This is such a nice fish and chip shop. Me and my husband went out for day came across this place it is so clean and the staff are so lovely and helpful i would tell anyone to call in when you vist there. It is we'll worth it.

This is by far the best chip shop in cwmbran the chips are great best i have had in a while. The fish was great & proper sauce on the table. The staff are lovely & friendly. The place is very clean considering how busy they are. I did have to wait for a table but it was lunchtime.

had Chinese curry over chips this was a hot curry and I would eat it any time . also the fried fish was good

Right in the heart of Cwmbran car parks right on there doorstep. A great selection of meals from the conventional fish and chips, all day breakfast, curry, and even mixed grills. Clean pleasant surroundings either sit down or take away. Very busy during lunch times but all food is cooked to order so piping hot. Eat in and you are served at your table by pleasant friendly staff.

A good variety of food & drink choices on offer for the children: Box style takeaway or eat in. (I have experienced both with my son & Grandchildren).The portions are perfect & food very tasty.Staff are very friendly and helpful.

After visiting Asia we found mr chippy which showed a 4 out of 5 in Welsh compulsory food green rating sticker. We entered to one of the cleanest eating places we have ever been in.a very pleasant young lady approached and cleaned our table and asked if we were ready to order.my wife and I ordered cod mushy peas and chips.(wow what a wonderful surprise) this was the finest fish we have ever eaten.i don't normally write reviews,but felt i really wanted to on this occasion.would highly recommend this place and will definitely use mr chippy in the future.

Small fish and chip shop with seating in Cwmbran Town Centre. Excellent attentive staff and food cooked to the highest quality. Fish and chips excellent and the cod perfectly cooked. Also Chicken Korma was excellent. Staff polite and make sure everything is as expected. Very busy during the day but given how good our meal were, not surprising.

when ever I visit I have to advise the assistant to put less chips in my portion even if I ask for a small portion.

I love Mr Chippy, their fish is always nice and fat with no skin. Batter is always crisp and not too thick, chips are always cooked properly. Know may sound a bit picky but hate skin on fish, can eat it all. Like my batter crispy not thick and stodgy. Love it.

We haven't been in Mr Chippy since it changed hands I think in 2014 and we certainly won't be going in there again after today. For two cans of drink and two plates of fish and chips, one with what should have been mushy peas but looked more like mushy slop and the other with curry sauce, it cost just over £17. The fish was very watery as if they hadn't defrosted it properly before cooking it and the batter was just awful. The service was good and the staff pleasant but that doesn't make it worth paying that much money for poor food.

It was busy as it was 1 o' clock dinner time but we had prompt friendly service. The variety of meals on offer were surprising as I thought it was just a fish and chip shop. My friend and I both ordered cod in batter, chips and mushy peas. We didn't have to wait long and it was delicious. The batter was light and crisp and the tasty fish had no bones or skin as promised . I' d definitely visit here again .

We are from Newport and whenever we are shopping in cwmbran we always come to Mr chippy. The fish and chips are the best in Wales! Great service and great prices. Lunch times are always busy, which goes to show how popular it is, if you are in cwmbran, try this cafe you will not be disappointed!

Visited on the 2nd april 2015 with my family we like to eat at Mr chippy. Good food good service great prices!!

Even though this is classed as a chip shop, it does all sorts of plain wholesome meals, I ordered a ham salad it was really delicious and extremely fresh.

You will have to drive a long way to find food cooked this well, Fresh chunky fillets of Cod cooked in a light crisp batter. The service is first class, lunch times are very busy but don't let this put you off, we have eaten here twice now, just before lunch at 11:30 and the food has been first class both times.
