I just had to leave a review after continually having an outstanding experience at Hob! The service has been impeccable, and the food is exceptional. My favourite dish was the waffles with bananas, strawberries, and crème. They kindly made this bespoke creation for me upon request, and it was absolutely delightful. My Friends and I also love their full English breakfast so we make a point of treating ourselves fortnightly. Highly recommend Hob to anyone looking for a kind smile and great food!

HOB does well because since Balham has become “trendy” all the Cafes have disappeared Is if you want a “breakfast” no where else to go to be honest It’s all chains, and coffee/pastry places in Balham now. The upper middle class “avocado on toast” quinoa types reside here now. The “new London” types The coffee in HOB was very nice. Strong The fried breakfast was pretty nice (except for the catering sausages) Well presented Nice staff. I made my own low carb breakfast Nice, small. Not great but good.

HOB is such a gem in Balham. We started visiting HOB for coffee and cocktails during lockdown, and we also ordered brunch via delivery several times which never disappointed. We recently had the chance to dine in for brunch a few weeks ago and the service was wonderful and the food unmatched. By far my favorite breakfast spot in Balham. We are sad to hear that HOB will be closed for two weeks during Lockdown 2, but we can't wait to go back as soon as they open!

Surprised to see this place has a high rating. Maybe the Moroccan stuff they do is nice, can’t comment as I ordered the English breakfast and it was woeful. Perhaps I shouldn’t order the English breakfast in a place that doesn’t specialise in them, but if they offer it on the menu it should be of a far higher standard. Sausage undercooked, tinned mushrooms, just an all around very poor fry up. £26 for two of them with a coffee and an orange juice as well. Won’t be going back

Ordered a "chicken tagine" via Deliveroo. What I received was dry cous cous, bland vegetables and 2 tiny malnourished chicken legs. Called the restaurant to find out what happened and give them the benefit of the doubt, but apparently this is a "normal portion". Funny how it was completely different to what I've ordered in the past. This use to be a nice place, not sure why it's gone downhill lately. Embarrassing.

I came to this restaurant by chance and am delighted that I did. I came along with a friend of mine who is a vegetarian, I am not but the menu well suited us both. The place is small and the tables placed quite close together but not overly so. The staff are delightful, pleasant and friendly. We arrived at a very busy time and had to wait a few minutes for a table but were served quickly and although we had to wait a while for our meals it was well worth waiting, the portions are enormous and delicious. I had the Berber Baked Omelette to which I added a beef sausage and the seasoned potatoes. It was in fact a little too much, however very tasty. My friend had The Veggie Breakfast. I recommend The HOB and would certainly return.

This is my second review because I feel like I didn't give the place enough justice upon my last visit. For me, this is genuinely the best cafe I've been to in London. The food is amazing and very unique (e.g the morrocan potatoes for the full English and the delicious cinnamon syrup they use for the pancakes). The staff there are incredibly friendly and always deliver prompt and good service. It's got a lovely home feel to it and the prices are extremely reasonable, 10/10 would definitely recommend to a friend

The staff here are really nice and welcoming, the portions are generous and the menu offers a variety of options. But there were some things that made the experience a little disappointing. The food took quite a long time to arrive and when it did, it came in a random order (our side dishes arrived well before our mains). The menus were also sticky and our table was lacking cutlery and napkins. Despite this, the place has a nice vibe, is beautifully decorated and the staff helped immediately with our requests.

As the recommended breakfast venues in Balham’s Hildreth Street were all completely full, we headed on up the High Road and, chilly and hungry, made a last-minute decision to try Hob. (Or is it Mr A’s Brasserie? That’s the name on the website front page, but “Hob” is emblazoned in white-on-black over the narrow frontage, and just to complicate matters further, the website address is heartofbalham.com.) Anyway, what’s in a name? The food’s the thing, and the “Lebanese breakfast” I had was magnificent – two sumac fried eggs, two Merguez sausages, a slab of grilled halloumi cheese, Batata Harra (think home fries but with yet more spice), a bowl of loubia (spiced Moroccan beans) and two chunks of sourdough toast. If all that sounds a bit TOO spicy for you, then there are plenty of other options, from the “Full Breakkie” (you can guess what is in that) to simple scrambled eggs to blueberry pancakes. Be warned that Hob is tiny, pretty noisy, and not particularly comfortable. However, the service is the personification of friendliness and the food, as I said…

I've tried every fry up there is on offer in Balham and this is easily the best. Very tasty all the right components and great value. The Exhibit used to do a great Full English until they refurbed in 2015 and got in some really awful staff. From the outside Mr A's Brasserie doesn't look like it would be great, but it is. Their Full English includes a free filter coffee/tea and comes with two rashers of bacon, a sausage, beans, two eggs, slice of toast & mushrooms. They do a veggie version too where the eggs/bacon are replaced with avocado/asparagus. It cost £8.20, which is very cheap for Balham especially when you consider that includes coffee/tea. The falafel wrap is great too!The staff are friendly, the food all seems fresh and it's clean (including the toilets). Highly recommended.

they have made a real effort to decorate it well and to produce high-quality food. I decided to make a change and instead of eating typical British breakfast food, had some Moroccan dishes. They were absolutely delicious and highly recommended . Staff also very welcoming

Four of us enjoyed lovely breakfasts with very pleasant and speedy service in this little cafe in Balham. Looks pretty ordinary from the outside, nothing great inside either, other than the food and service - I'm sure I'll be back!

For the price you pay and for the portions you get is amazing!! They are huge! The food quality is fantastic and my dad is a chef so i know good quality. I have been going to this place for years and sorry the Breakfast club doesn't even compare! The owners and staff are super! A must go to place or your missing out.

Absolutely loved our breakfast at Mr. A's Brasserie. I had the best pancakes ever (the All American with bacon, scrambled eggs and bluberries - yum!) and my partner had a very good Full Monty (English Breakfast). We got our hot drinks straight away and the food didn't arrive long after. The place is small but cute with it's American diner feel - even though they do a lot of Moroccan food as well! Will definitely be going back!

Today was the 3rd time I visited Mr A's since we moved to Balham a year ago. The food here comes out piping hot & well presented, tastes really good too. Staff are always very polite & friendly. It can get busy on the weekends but you usually don't have to wait too long. The cafe has a huge range on the menu, breakfast is especially good - traditional/American & continental styles with fresh juices. The only slightly bad thing I can say about Mr A's is that it is cash only.I'll definitely be returning here soon.

We are just beginning to explore where to eat in Balham, it certainly has more than its fair share of interesting cafes and restaurants and this definitely is one of them. Four of us had raps and really enjoyed them. Food was hot well cooked and came within a reasonable time. Really enjoyed my banana milk shake, only problem, my straw kept blocking up because of the little bits of really banana in the shake! Just one comment, be aware this cafe does not take cards, its cash only, but please fo not be put of by that there is a cash point across the road. Prices were very reasonable.

We had a party of six come for breakfast late on a Monday morning, the only customers - our pancakes were made fresh - several people ordered the pancakes with blueberries spooned on top and scrambled eggs and bacon. Not sure if this is a US thing, but we are accustomed to maple syrup with our "American-style" pancakes, and the strange sugary syrup that was on the pancakes was too sweet for my kid - I recommend asking for it on the side or skipping it altogether. The waiter took it off the bill and brought something else, no problem. We enjoyed the British-style bacon that came with it, and everything was reasonably priced and tasty otherwise. One of us came back the next day at an earlier hour, and reported that the pancakes were not as good. So go late in the day, and get your pancakes made fresh with syrup on the side. The service was very nice.

A well placed cafe which provides everything that you would expect. So good we went 3 out of 4 mornings. The menu is varied - traditional English but other options ( a very good eggs benedict), pancakes etc. Staff are pleasant and chatty. The lunch menu is also varied and very reasonably priced. It is a small establishment (opposite Waitrose) but with a good vibe. My only whine was the coffee but the tea more than made up for it and we will gladly go back.

Pretty reasonably priced for what it is. An above average cafe with a decent tasting chicken escalope ciabatta. I quite enjoyed it and would hesitate to revisit as I am frequently in Balham.

I came to the place for breakfast. The place was really quiet. At first impression, the waitress that served me wasn't really smiley and neither of the rest of the team to be honest. I ordered american blueberry pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon by the counter and sat down. The day was sunny but cold and the door was wide open so it felt a bit chilly in the restaurant. The pancakes were dry and felt like they were made the day before but confirmed by a member of the staff that they were cooked in the morning (in stack) and not when ordered. The scrambled eggs were just as the same as the pancakes, no moist very dry and the bacon was cut in small pieces and add on the top of everything. The blueberries were fresh fruit and put onto the plate but not like the american way where they cook them into the pancake. The two bites of the pancake were more than enough to convince me not to come back here, especially when you know there is much better places few steps away. However I wanted to try this place for a change and the menu and prices looked attracting. I cannot obviously say anything else about the rest of the menu and this is was my first time off experience at this restaurant. I complaint straight away to a member of staff and did not have to pay for the pancakes.

Forget your trendy overpriced eateries, this is the place to go. Visiting my niece yesterday in London we called in for lunch. What choices, took me ages to decide. The staff are so accommodating and cannot do enough for you. Its a family owned cafe that open 7 days a week start 7.30 until 6 Monday to Thursday and then Saturday 7.30 until 6pm Even open on Sunday 8,30 to 5pm. Great breakfasts, then homemade lasagna, pastry lunches etc. The panini's and wraps are wonderful. Spicy tuna was excellent. Very good value and I cannot wait to go again, coffee is good too. Definitely give it a try if you are in the area.

Fui por la opción de la carne. La comida era abundante y se llenó saliendo del restaurante. Muchas grandes opciones en el buffet de ensaladas. En general una comida encantadora

Delicious solid greasy spoon choice in SW London. We’ve both eaten in the restaurant and ordered from Deliveroo. Solid every time, great place for good service and breakfast.

Disappointed, we use to go to the stage door 20 plus years ago when the elderly couple owner the restaurant and it was beautiful, we have very good memories of the service snd food. Last night the food was disappointing, the sauté potato’s were greasy and my husband T- bone streak that he requested medium well was very rare. The service was slow.
