Mort Subite in Trafford

We went in just for drinks. The bar is very cool and has a good atmosphere. Good range of beer too. But the half pints were barely half full. I appreciate European beers have a large froth but in Europe they are often sold as 200ml beers. I feel like these were less even than 200ml portions.

Amazing dog friendly and unique pub just off the high street. A great selection of beers, both tap and bottles with very attentive service. Beer generally sold in half pint sizes. Will be coming back!!

I absolutely love this place. Fantastic selection of Belgian beers in this incredibly relaxed, dark bar that makes it feel like you've stepped into a little pocket universe. The staff are always incredibly knowledgeable on their drinks and are super welcoming.

This is a brilliant, atmospheric little bar with a European beer selection unrivalled by anywhere else in Manchester I can think of! There is something for everyone and very friendly service from the owner who has great knowledge of the beers on offer.

A definite change to the usual micropub, in a moody basement, Karen offers a friendly and attentive table service; we went for the Jever. Only wish they would answer either their messenger or phone...couldn't find a full menu anywhere online.

Great atmosphere, wonderful people and enjoyable music. Beers from totally another level, import from mainly Belgium and Germany, but with a lot of local flavours. Must see!!

Waiting staff were very nice and a good selection of beers but some weird vibes. I was with a group of friends and drinks were all table service, efficient, helpful etc. but at the end of the night when we went to pay for our respective drinks the manager became very rude saying “none of you are leaving until every drink is paid for”. Not sure what he got into his head, we all had cards in our hands ready to pay. We’re aged 35-45 so not likely to do a runner on a tab. He also didn’t like that we’d paid separately “we’re not that kind of establishment” like one of us should have paid for everyone’s drinks. Never had such a fuss anywhere else that provides table service. It just left what had been a pleasant experience really sour and I felt sorry for waiting staff who had to deal with him.

Absolutely loved this place which we found by accident. Staff were so knowledgeable about all the beers. We had the Kasteel Rouge which was absolutely fantastic

I wish I could give Mort Subite a 10. Outstanding selection, inviting quirky setting, attentive table service and just honestly the best bar I have visited in a long, long time. Sure it might be a little more expensive compared to other bars selling your commercial draughts but for the experience, selection, knowledge and service it is worth every penny. You could honestly sit in there for hours; lose yourself in the menu, and have your taste buds tantalised by the enormity of the beers that are so perfectly described and served in the correct glassware - all these small, often overlooked details add up to form an incredible experience. I 100% recommend this place and I am so thankful we were ushered in by the extremely welcoming host. It was really a breath of fresh air and im so glad we found you! Thank you!

I really loved the place, the decor, ambience, just a shame it didn't do cocktails, it had run out of many things, but the Beer we had was very nice. Will defo be back when in the area again with our boat.

Don't be put off by it's hard to find location or the curtain at the bottom of the stairs, this is a little gem. The most comprehensive European beer list that I have see for a LONG TIME. Friendly staff and styled like a Parisian underground cabaret club. It's worth a visit. Bring cash because the card reader is patchy (being underground)

Decent place to go. Very dark, gothik and has a parisien look to it. Good, extensive menu of continental beers Had a beer the night in question that might have been off though as got stomach gripes later on.

I always enjoy Mort Subite which I stumbled upon on accident the first time I went. It's down some steps and not that easy to spot albeit the signage is better now. Anyway, great decor (like being in a Gothic novel) and a massive selection of beers from all over the world. Staff are nice and prices reasonable (in fact surprisingly cheap on my last visit) so I would heartily recommend.

Belgian beer lovers, this place is authentic and wonderfully eccentric.

I absolutely love this place. So different from a real ale pub and a breath of fresh air - although there isn't much in there, it's on a basement, so has no windows. Has a fantastic range of Belgian beers as well as those from more unusual places - Norwegian beer anyone?! - had to be experienced by anyone who wants a change from the hippy IPA norm. It does have a few wines and cocktails, should you have any non-beer drinkers in your party.

Brilliant bar, great service, an amazing range of drinks carefully sourced by a very dedicated owner, and a very chilled and authentic vibe. You could switch off and you'll feel like you're in Brussels, knocking back the Kriek with little fuss. Def worth a visit

Its taken my husband nearly 5 years to find me a beer that I dont think smells like wee. We found one in this lovely European bar. Staff were great and so helpful, table service which was great. Recommended

Love it here. Its tucked away and fab if you love your beer/ales. Only way it could improve would be if they took card payments as its cash only but that's no big issue.

It is so atmospheric an absolute gem any Belgian would be astonished at how authentic the feel and beer menu is. The draught DeKoninck is dare I say to die for.

Have been going for about 10 years. A true gem of Altrincham. They have a huge range of unique beers, a great atmosphere and friendly service.

The best authentic Belgian bar in at least Greater Manchester maybe the UK, Wyn maitre d is the Encylopedia Brittania with regards to beer Internationally Belgium being his Master Mind chosen subject be prepared for an experience that even Belgians would die for, oddly the Bar is called Mort and is in fact in the basements that were the mortuary for Altrincham General Hospital. Friendly is a byword table service only. Vast range of ecclectic beers many simply not available in all but a very few bars in the whole of the UK. If I've gone on too long no apology, don't visit and deny yourself a very special hour or two.

Great place but quite often will only take cash which means we have to go back out into the cold so make sure you take cash with you. With it being underground it can also get a bit stuffy when it’s busy. Despite that we still come and always recommend

The best beer I have ever had. Me and a friend we've been calling it "The De Koninck world" and it become our cave that everybody can easily locate us in. Wyn is an absolutely amazing guy. He is the kind of person that you really feel the real meaning of brotherhood when he calls you brother.

On Friday 19th Oct within 5 seconds of arriving the man on front of house recommended we went somewhere else. We were polite and smartly dressed, we weren't being loud or abusive. We've been several times before and never experienced this, we didn't stay long as he'd really marred our visit. It's a fantastic place with an extensive range of beers to choose from, but the rude man on front of house really lets the place down especially when he mutters insults under his breath.

Unique. Bohemian decor, French music, low lighting, table service only, excellent choice of beers. About 6 on tap, 200 bottled. In the old mortuary!

Was I here Saturday night with friends. What an amazing place. Great spooky atmosphere. Bar staff were so polite and helpful in our choice of drinks. We even got free snacks! Some of best bottle beers we have ever tried. Well done to you all. We will be back for sure
