Monkton Lodge Brewers Fayre in South Ayrshire

Food was basic, service was poor. Staff sitting around, we were charged for our children to access the “soft play”. This wasn’t advertised as an additional charge. Toilets were disgusting, very unclean. Floor was really dirty with food under our table! Overall, would not recommend! Which is a shame as the hotel next door is stunning in comparison!

Went here for mother's day looking forward to a carvery with my partner and son. We arrived waited in a massive queue even tho we had booked. Got to the carvery counter with to see bits of fat from the meat so I said meat to the boy he went and got the meat well the beef you couldn't even cut the gammon was just grease and the chicken looked dry. So next was the unlimited veg we'll whay veg there was a tray of parsnip that nearly broke ur teeth a spoonful of hard carrots the roasties looked like they were cooked last week . Requested refund and got it the manager agreed she wouldn't have ate it. Soo disappointed

We booked a table for 10 of us 7 adults and 3 children As there were a few of us we ordered food at the same time but paid separately Our foot arrived over a 45 minute period with some people having finished before others had even got there meal, we then learned that there where no kitchen staff (at least that's what we were told) and that the normal staff where having to use the kitchen Overall it's a very typical brewers fayre

We had a fantastic meal tonight. The soft play is brilliant for young kids and the food was excellent. All of the staff were lovely. Ross served us and helped me back to the table with our drinks, the food was served promptly and plates cleared quickly afterwards. Girl with dark hair was really friendly and helpful with heating our babies bottle for us. All the staff couldn’t do more and we will definitely be back. 10/10 customer service.

Not enough staff, poor food and Hotel with broken heater So no heating

Only 1 star as if I could give 0 I would have.food awful no management as such . obviously also lied to as it's still open.we asked for our money back but were told it's not company policy to give refunds . don't go even if they give it free ........

Had table booked for 3pm. On entry were told no carvery today, very disappointed as this was what we were there for. Cue to be served was really slow, it was 40 mins later when we finally got our drinks, but given champagne flutes for our wine as they didn’t have any wine glasses😖🤔 (in a bar, WHY NOT) very few staff but guy behind bar was doing his best, he even had to leave us standing while he took food to a table, the poor guy was really stressed. I may add there was only about 12 customers, but not even enough staff to cope with them. The last time we went in we had to wait in a queue for 40 mins for a drink, again very few staff. Don’t think we will be back. Too many problems and definitely not enough staff.

The food is very good and a great relationship between quality and price. The staff was very kind and helpful. I've been asked many times about my allergies, and as I had an anaphylactic allergy, they gave me an allergen book alongside my menu and again confirmed with the kitchen about the ingredients. Superb. We will be back.

Went to this establishment for the second time to have a Sunday Carvery as advertised to find they do not cater for it . We were told by one of the staff that they cannot do as lack of staff,the Manager then came out to tell us a different story that they cannot supply as the meats do not get delivered from England to them .If this is the case ,why can the meat be delivered to Uddingston,Glasgow for their Carvery . Take the menu and change it so as no one else makes unneeded journeys to be told untruths . We didn’t stay ,went elsewhere and enjoyed our carvery . We will not return .

Ross made the great experience even better with his high level of customer service from start to finish

ordered burger with no tomato first came with tomatoes then asked for it to be removed, burger then came back ice cold. Thai green curry was slimy and Nan bread would break ur teeth. Staff very rude and had brought a lime for my gin in the palm of his hand. Not impressed with the service at all had noticed another waiter coughing on other customers food also.

I attend soft play here which is great value for money and isn't as over whelming as the larger soft plays. Well worth a visit .

Dessert came out before main meal , waited over an hour for main meal , place wasn't busy . There was staff family group in, they seemed to get serviced first even after we had already ordered food , they came in after us . The staff are friendly but it's a poorly run place

I ordered a pizza 15 pound. I got a frozen pizza with stuffings on top. Im very disapointed. My family members got their food before me. When they finish eating my poorly made pizza arrived.

We ate in here few weeks ago (we come here frequently) it was a quiet night when we were welcomed in.We ordered the sirloin steak and a mixed grill which arrived speedily.Sirloin cooked exactly as it should be, tasty and tender.My mixed grill oh my what a large plateful of food which I thoroughly enjoyed.Ross our waiter was an exceedingly pleasant and attentive young man, obviously enjoys his job.Thankyou for a pleasant experience and we will definitely return. Visited for drinks and a dessert with a friend. Lovely to see the festive decorations up and staff cheery. Always find the staff smiling and helpful with customers. Lynn & Ross particularly stand out and have met Karen in Premier Inn who is also helpful & chatty.

A marked improvement on our last visit. Staff were full of smiles, went above and beyond. Food arrived promptly and resturant was clean and tidy.

Breakfast was such a let down, nothing hot ready and when it was it was very quickly used up. Seems there’s a lack of staff or a lack of coordination. Staff were nice.

Been once and would go again, food was lovely it has a nice setting the decor is old but a good old staff are understanding and great.

Great new menu. Finally pizza on the menu and a thin and crispy too. Good choice of toppings. Great service friendly too. Calamari starter is a recommendation.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! After taking 10 minutes to order at the till and having issues with the card reader, they charged me more than the menu said for an extra and a full bottle of wine when I asked for 250ml glass. They refunded us but made it seem like it was our fault and my husband had to help them figure out how much they owed us back as they couldn’t figure it out. My food came which I asked for no bacon and the server said she would make sure there was no bacon on my order… there was bacon. I let them know and they brought my food back with the bacon just peeled off it. I said it needed to be fresh so after bringing a “fresh” one back (they did apologise) it was barely warm so I still doubt that it was fresh. I had to ask for my garlic bread back as it was on the original dish but disappeared on the last dish. My husbands luke warm steak came which he paid extra for the peppercorn sauce but that didn’t come till we asked. The manager and employees were a bit rude to each other and the manager was also serving tables and was dropping chips all over the floor. They did give us a full refund and apologised which I appreciate but I won’t be coming back.

Been lots of time but this was by far the worst food we have had. 4 adults and not one had chips that were not overcooked. 2 fish were oozing oil as they were cut very disappointed. Also asked for the meal deal but it was sold out so daughter was told we have foam with skin on, up sold 2 fish instead of £13 were £13 each.

Love this place, but unfortunately the steak was unedible as it was so tough. I couldn't even cut it. The waitress just said "I'm everso sorry about that" no mention off discount on meal or free pud sadly. I'd go back as I like it there but definitely won't order the steak again xxx

Finding somewhere to eat with a Coeliac can be challenging, so we looked up the menu and allergen information before we went. My daughter was excited to see on the website that she could have a burger with a gluten-free bun. She was given a book with all the allergen information to use alongside the menu, which was really helpful. However, when she ordered the burger with gluten-free bun, she was told that they never have the gluten-free buns at the restaurant. She was disappointed but opted for the hunter's chicken with mash instead. I ordered steak and the steak itself was beautiful - a good size and cooked perfectly for my taste. It's a shame that the peas that came with it were inedible as they were far too overcooked. The food was good overall, but the toilets need a refresh and some toilet roll. It was also disappointing to be sat in the family dining area as our children are mature teenagers, though on the plus side it was quiet because we were eating later and for most of our meal we were the only table in that part of the restaurant.

Mega queue, only one guy taking orders, plenty of other staff wandering about. Happily told hour wait for food after ordering it. Arrived promptly and was actually delicious. Place could do with a deep clean and a refurb.

This was dire . We stopped in for a bite to eat, I had the smothered platter, it may as well have been cremated. Asked for it medium , it was like leather supposed to come in a cheese sauce ..NOPE ..dried cheese like it had been put under a grill and left for days ....chips were fine ....the seat was stained and ripped with huge gaps, the loos were disgusting.... honestly just appalling.

Excellent as always! Kept wondering how Brewers' Fayre always has the best location and atmosphere for the whole family wherever I go! This one has ample parking, AND a lovely outdoor playground (other than the indoor softplay) and lovely tables on the grass. Beautiful atmosphere inside and staff very helpful and friendly 🥰

Initially a typical start to a meal at a restaurant wait to be seated then order at the bar which was fair enough, after a few minutes deciding myself and my partner decided to go to the bar to place the order where we were met with 4 othe customers in a single que ahead of us with only one member of staff taking orders as the others walked about. I sat down whilst My partner waited as not to congest the walkway for other customers however upon returning to our table I seen 3 members of staff all playing rock paper scissors as to who would go on the till and serve after the manger told them to get onto the till. Which is a very unprofessional way to decide especially whilst in view of paying customers. All in all, the order for 2 people was placed approximately 20 minutes into our visit, which was long enough as it was. I then seen the manager seem to be leaving rather calmly out the front of the entrance of the building with the impression her shift had ended and an evening manager may take her place, however this was not the case as there seemed to be no organisation and a long wait for food. My partner and I had travelled far enough that day so we thought we would sit and wait for a reasonable time for the food to be brought out expecting the staff to be short staffed maybe and giving leniency we waited for around an hour before really starting to question how long it took to cook two burgers and a few chips. I was starting to get annoyed at this point and gave the staff until the hour and then I would ask where the food was as we would of been waiting 80 mins for our food By then, bearing in mind people who came in after us had also not had their food apart from one table who was in at the same time. Upon asking for an update the staff looked puzzled for our table numbers order and asked us to check the table number we were sat at, this infuriated me as they were pointing the finger at us for them misplacing the order receipt. During this, the manager returned and was dealing with other irate customers who rightfully were not happy. I asked for a full refund when the staff member returned to say that the receipt for our food hadn't printed therefore they hadn't started making our food for the entire 80 mins we were sat down after the order. The member of staff got the manager who brought myself and my partner into a quiet section of the establishment to reduce the effects on other customers I would say, this was after about another 10 minutes of waiting for her to walk in and out of the kitchen several times. The manager apologised and stated that the receipt had ended up going in the bin as it had gotten wet coming out of the printer where they had spilt liquid on it in the kitchen area. I was appalled by this and explained they needed a better system and explained that it was a joke that they hadn't realised or the server hadn't realised after 80 mins we hadn't had any food, the manager replied saying that she had just been a chef down as she had to bring him to hospital with a nasty cut, and they were short staffed. I know what it's like to work in a customer facing role short staffed and it's not fun however I believe that the team involved in that establishment are not cut out for the job whether that be due to lack of training or resources or they just aren't good enough but no-one should have to wait 90+ minutes to not even get the food they had ordered, if this happened in the company I work for then every staff member working would be put on probation and I would guarantee heads would roll. Would highly recommend avoiding this one!

We visited Monkton Lodge Brewers Fayre on July 4th, 2024, with a coach trip of senior citizens en route to Millport. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Heather, Kayley, and all the staff for their kind and attentive service. The use of the facilities in both directions was greatly appreciated, and the staff could not have been nicer. A special mention goes to the fabulous ice cream and trimmings served on the bus for those who did not get off to use the facilities. It was a delightful touch that everyone enjoyed. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable. Highly recommend Monkton Lodge Brewers Fayre for their exceptional hospitality!

Food is absolutely terrible. Bought the smothered platter and not a single bit of it was edible. Carvery was meant to be between 12-6. We showed up at 2 and it had finished as they had run out of food.

Would not advise anyone to visit this restaurant booked a table for 5 at 5.30pm still had not been served food an hour and a half later. Shocking service and manager couldn’t care less still taking peoples bookings and not able to offer service not a single apology!!

Waited an hour for our food. Which tbf isn't normal. But the restaurant was fairly quiet. But when the food came. It was excellent

Roast beef was as tough as old boots, the gammon was OK, the veg was terrible. Would not recommend to my worst enemy

Visited here for carvery on Sunday then all you can eat breakfast Monday and again today for a mixed grill and lasagne .. always great value for money and the kids ate breakfast free 👌

We carried a job out to Prestwick from Portsmouth, we stayed close to this facility & this place was our choice for breakfast. What a brilliant choice we made 👍 Staff on shift were amazing, very welcoming + friendly. Food is superb 👌 - atmosphere is second to none 😊 Unfortunately this place is approximately 9hr (travel-time) from where we reside or we would be 'regulars' @ this venue

No beers on tap, only half menu available, food grim, place almost completely deserted at 7pm on a Sunday. I assume this place is winding down to close?!

Been to monkton Lodge on few occasions and never been disappointed food always fantastic and service great also took my lil one for his birthday as wanted to go for family meal and they were so kind to bring out his cake and also give him a lil gift what was unexpected and so kind we will surely be returning

Breakfast was lovely, food was cooked very well and staff were lovely. Evening food was absolutely disgusting, over cooked, dry and tasteless. Staff behind the bar were very inexperienced and rude. Won't be back

If you want to see the menu on the website, you have to download it to your phone! where did this idea come from?

Food was cold, waitresses forgot our table number, waitresses taking instead of working, we had to ask for our plates to be taken away after 20mins of waiting for dessert, they took 35 mins to take away dessert plates. Disappointed.

Plenty of choice of food, great for kids as there is a softplay. Great value for money 💰

It's a Brewer's Fayre. You know exactly why you're there. Free soft drink refills, decent kids menu. Full options for starters, mains and desserts and take not of any allergies on your immediate arrival. We had amazing spicy chicken wings, nachos, garlic bread for starters with a good selection of beers and gins, all at very decent prices. Also get 25% off food bills for anyone with a Blue Light card. All in all very decent and quick, pub grub.

Food was a bit cold my husband got a mixed grill and the steak was cold...staff were nice enough

Had the breakfast buffet, great value for money

Was taken for Mother's Day dinner. However, I ordered off the main Mother's Day set menu whilst everyone else at the table had the carvery. Even though we asked staff twice when my order would be coming out, it never did. After 1hr and a half, I still had no food and everyone else at the table was finished eating so we left. I had no Mother's Day dinner as what was ordered never appeared. Very disappointed.

Stayed at the hotel attached when attending a wedding locally. Great value for money and service. Breakfast was delicious. Drinks were great. Service was great too. All the staff were lovely who served us over the few days we were there. Can't fault it

Would not eat there again service was terrible they ran out starter and then dessert after me waiting 45 mins. Got pie and mash and it was instant and 10 gardens peas on plate pie cust burnt and pie dry.

A Sunday morning out for breakfast, family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) fed and watered for under £20. Service is always great, food replenished often and always warm. Good selection of breakfast items even for fussiest of little eaters. From hot cooked, traditional cereals, toast with jam/marmalade/nutella, yogurts, fresh fruits etc nothings ever too much trouble for the staff.

booked a table for today for my family at 4pm, drove 35 mins to the restaurant to be told on arrival that my table would have to be available for the next people to arrive in 45mins!! absolutely unbelievable when it takes about that for the food to arrive on your table! this is somewhere we usually go to but that will be the last. asked to speak to a manager to be told the lady I was speaking to was. I was more annoyed at the fact they let people in front of us get a table even though they hadn't even booked, but we had booked in advance and were told we would have to sit at the bar area!!

Spent 4nights at the attached premier inn after booking out of nearby faulty towers . Staff were great and looked after me all week and I really enjoyed the food which was always hot presented nicely and tasty.

Absolutely disappointed with the service and meal my family received tonight. Put in the coldest section of the restaurant. Ignored by staff and over an hour to wait for poor food. We ended up leaving due to our table not being cleared after 20 minutes. My nieces did not even get there dessert. Totally poor service and food.

Absolutely diabolic service. Got starters and then waited nearly an hour for mains. Sat for another 20 mins no-one came to clear our table we were ignored. My two grand daughters didn't get there deserts as we walked out tired of waiting. I sat the whole time with my coat on as did my two daughters Absolutely freezing .won't be back.

Dreadful! Service poor, food less than average. Environment, old and worn. Waited ages for 3 out if 6 meals, on asking twice to be told two sides in kitchen? Not even busy. Only good thing is play area. Will not be back, very disappointed.

Attended the Monkton Brewers Fayre for a breakfast morning meet with work this morning. 18 of us in all attended and were all met with very welcoming staff who always ensured we were looked after and fresh food was constantly on the hot plates. This is the second time we have done this recently and will definitely have more meetings like this.

Absolutely disgusted at the service food and service I was there with my family Boxing Day! Totally ruined our day and others that were there said the same. We was having to clean our own tables

This was the first time I have had a meal at a Brewers Fabre restaurant, and the experience was very disappointing. I had to repeat myself to the staff member at the bar when ordering drinks. The drink my friend ordered was weak. We both ordered the fish pie and also asked for a side salad. I was not happy that the side salad was covered in a sauce/ dressing when I did not ask for this, nor was I asked if I wanted sauce or dressing on the side salad and it doesn’t state in the menus that the side salad comes with sauce/ dressing. The fish pie my friend and I had lots of creamy sauce, a small amount of fish and very little potato on top. I wondered at one stage if this was a pie or a soup. The portion of peas we both were given was very small and were not very hot. On a plus the continental breakfast was good.

If I could have given zero stars I would! Saw festive menu was on, until 31st of December, so booked a table for me and husband whilst away on a mini break. Arrived to a dingy restaurant, but having travelled 20 mins to it decided to give it a shot anyways. Girl who greeted us sat us at table 4 which the booth part is completely broken. We were debating moving when we ordered and husband approached the bar after us sitting and selecting our courses from the festive menu (which is advertised all over the restaurant). He waited in the queue and when he went to order was told the festive menu wasn't running to night. No apology or anything. We chose to leave. Floor was dirty and sticky and the whole place looked ran down! Travelled to the Old Loan's Inn and had an amazing meal! Avoid Monkton Lodge!!

Lovely restaurant in a beautiful countryside setting. Quality and reasonably priced food including a delicious carvery option. Brilliant staff, very cheerful and always happy to help. Has a play area to keep the wee ones amused. Highly recommended.

Waited 1hr dinner. Heard others waited 45mins to an hr too. No explanation just a sorry. Really disappointing-they too busy with kids birthday party. Food was ok - brussels would break teeth-goodness know how they managed to get them brick hard. Dessert torte was only good food Thats what happens when paying upfront - if not for that would have walked out.
