Mondello in Brentwood

Went last night for the first time to celebrate a family birthday. The food was fantastic, staff could not have been friendlier or helpful. Reasonable prices too for Shenfield.. will definitely revisit !

Our third visit and as good as ever. Probably the best seafood in Essex. Classic and authentic Italian too.

Visited as we all fancied Italian.. Had looked at reviews and were mixed but thought we would go anyway as we could walk there... I don't normally leave many poor reviews as prefer to praise but felt a review was needed here Total lack of atmosphere and quite insipid in decor.... Waiter was quite strange and rather abrupt And food was just 'ugh'... Nothing to write home about and very average... I love Burrata and don't need a slightly patronising waiter ask if I knew what mozzarella was and that it was a softer version...... It was stone cold straight from fridge and was at the end of its life as there was no ooze at all... Its a room temperature food so when accompanied by freezing cold salad and smoked salmon it really was tasteless and unappetising Pollo milanese was not a lot different... Overcooked and pretty tasteless... Also menu states ALL main courses come accompanied with a potatoe and vegetables or a salad... When I asked for a salad with mine again I got the slightly patronising sneer saying that as the milanese came with spaghetti it didn't have anything else but I could pay for a salad... As the menu clearly states ALL mains come with accompaniments this is misleading and the menu should be changed accordingly So... For an Italian with no anti pasti of olives or even nice bread with oil and a hard slice of a cold French stick Mondello should really be asking themselves what they offer as a USP to keep customers happy and keep coming back as if you compare to other similar restaurants it really is lacking and needing something to inject a bit of life and personality into the place.. Disappointing to say the least

I visited this restaurant in a big group of about 5 couples. Someone in our group who lived locally booked us in and said it had good recommendations and reviews. The staff were very accommodating to our table. It is a small restaurant in which our group was probably loud, however the waitresses were very happy to serve us. To start with the cocktails were very nice, and table service was quick. Although personally I did not find the menu that great, I struggled with what to order, I ordered the Grigliata Siciliana in the end. And I do not recommend. It was not what i expected. It felt like loads of pieces of fish thrown on a plate, it did not seem like a well put together meal. After that I was pretty disappointed. I understand many people love it here and they have amazing reviews but it is not for me, there's plenty of nicer italians that are also family run, and i probably wouldnt return.

My wife and I visited Mondello in Shenfield for the 1st time on Saturday evening with another couple. We loved it. it is nicely decorated and very clean. We found good options on the menu, the food was great, well presented and the staff friendly, helpful and attentive at the right times. We all look forward to returning in the future. Thank you to chef and proprietor Aldo, his daughter Giovanna working hard at the bar and tables and elegantly fronted, and also served by, Giovanni for providing us all with such a nice evening.

Excellent meal on a Saturday night with friends. All staff were very helpful, food was excellent. A very enjoyable experience 😊

This family run business is a local gem. The food, all fresh, homemade and authentic is excellent. The menu offers a lot of variety and spoilt for choice. A specials menu is also available. The service is impecible as well as personal which makes this a great dining experience. I have rated this restaurant 4 stars, but so want to give it 5 because the food and service really is amazing, but it lacks ambience. On a dark night looking outside / in, it does not look particularly inviting. With some subtle changes, like dimming the lights and candles on the table I am sure this would provide the intimacy and cosiness it deserves and ultimately attract more business. This Italian is wonderful but just requires a couple of tweaks to make it absolutely perfect.

Finally an authentic Italian restaurant in Brentwood area. Had a great night at Mondello with friends. Food was perfect and there was a good choice on the menu. The fillet was superbly cooked by chef Aldo. The staff was attentive. Thank you Enzo for looking after us. Lovely evening and will return hopefully very soon.

Amazing food best Italian in the Brentwood/Shenfield area. Enzo is a very good host and the service is great. Been many times and it’s always the same standard. A***

I have visited Mondello a number of times both in person and via takeaway during lockdown, and have never been disappointed. Their traditional Sicilian menu including specials - which I highly recommend - after dinner cocktails and homemade desserts, along with their attentive and personal employees, create a perfect atmosphere for a lovely evening out! It’s ideal having a restaurant of this quality locally, easily one of the best Italian restaurants in the area!

Just had a fantastic evening at Mondello. Great to have an authentic Italian restaurant in Shenfield. Lovely decor inside and fantastic service from Enzo from start to finish. Brought a smile to our faces. Great food and wine. Can’t wait to come back with the kids.

Me and my mother had a wonderful lunch, Enzo was very hospitable and the vibe to the restaurant was very nice, almost felt as if you were in Italy!

The food is amazing the best fillet steak .. we love it there . Lovely staff and all food so fresh . Would recommend to everyone..

Really surprised by the quality of this restaurant. We live in Shenfield and have been meaning to give this Italian a try but with covid etc has been a year in the waiting! Well it was worth the wait! Covid secure, tables spaced out, waiter masked up! Gorgeous food and all cooked beautifully and fresh! We cannot wait to return!

Enjoyed a COVID secure takeaway on a Friday night! I called as we have two vegetarians in the family - they were very helpful and offered to make a different vegetarian pasta dish for us (linguine Aglio Olio e Peperoncino). We had the pollo creme funghi which was delicious and a very generous portion size! And the highlight was the tiramisu... wish we’d ordered more than one! Generous portions of good food! Definitely recommend!

We were at Mondello for a family meal, the service and food were fantastic. Every course was delicious and the staff were lovely and friendly, and knowledgable about the menu. Would highly recommend!

We visited this restaurant prior to second lockdown and the food and service was fantastic and the owners did everything to keep everyone Covid safe. Such a lovely little restaurant. We have since had a takeaway from there too which was equally as good and...

Ordered a takeaway and I must say, the lasagna was incredible, so authentic. Would highly recommend. We ate too fast to take a photo!

I cannot recommend enough... Given the current circumstances I cannot fault a thing. Social distancing, service, food... outstanding! I felt so safe and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The waiters were so welcoming. I will be back! Thank you for a fantastic evening.
