We went for lunch on a Wednesday when normally only bar foods are available but owing to a misunderstanding we expected a cooked lunch. Their staff could not have been more helpful and moved "heaven and earth" to ensure that our party of 6 was provided with the meal they thought that they had been expecting

I don’t mind shabby chic but this really was more shabby than chic. Our feature room was £500 for dinner bed and breakfast so I was really expecting something special. The room was nice and spacious but the window didn’t shut the blinds didn’t shut and the bedside table was cracked. The receptionist was lovely and friendly but the rest of the staff had a lack lustre approach. The star of the show has to be the food which was absolutely delicious. Certainly visit this hotel for lunch or dinner but don’t waste your money on an over night stay. Staff did not wear masks and tables in the restaurant are close together. I felt current covid regulations were not being adhered to.

Stunning scenery, beautiful room, and lovely kitsch touches throughout. Like the wee dogs roaming about, might not be for everyone though. It had all the hallmarks of a brilliant stay with another two couples but was let down by the service. It started with pre dinner drinks, the young barman struggled to pull a pint or serve up a gin and tonic. He also couldn’t serve up and Aperol despite all the ingredients being there. We then had him bring through drinks to the lounge but nobody was collecting glasses so they soon racked up with 6 of us there. Then the French waiter came in with some drinks, I love he was so friendly and wanted to chat but after 20 minutes of his tales of France and Islay we were wanting to get back to catching up with friends. This was a bit of a feature of the night as he was our waiter. Each time he brought the exceptional food the whole room had to stop as he cleared his throat to draw the whole rooms attention to himself. I would have hoped the maître de’ would have gotten hold of this but he didn’t not seem overly effective. They did slightly detract from the excellent food and wine. Speaking of which it was disappointing not to be able to order more than one bottle of both the red and wine as there were none in stock. This was a theme as when ordering night caps there was only two shots of krakken rum and we needed 3. We were told we could not have it. Astonishing. I then ordered my whisky and said French waiter took the opportunity to tell me about islay again and offer me the ardbeg cork. Thank you but can I have the whisky I ordered please. Breakfast was okay and nothing special, toast showed up, well 4 pieces in a rack for 6 for a table of 6 half way through. When settling up our bill out group of 3 couples were over charged 600 which took some time to work out. This is all fixable and sadly did detract from our stay. The location, hotel and evening food were exceptional and I look forward to reading positive reviews showing the above has been sorted so that we can return.

Was here for 1 night with our dog in late October. Had a lovely welcome & our dog friendly room was gorgeous (number 9, The Byre). Due to covid restrictions we were unable to have alcohol with our evening meal, but this wasn't a problem. The meal was GORGEOUS!! I have a food allergy (onion) & all the waiting staff were aware of it & the chef amended each dish so I could have it without the onion. Could not fault the food or the service in any way. The pear & pecan tarte with cardamon ice cream was divine & the petit fours served with the tea at the end of the meal were fabulous. After such an amazing dinner there was a slight worry that the breakfast would be a let down but there was no need to worry. Beautiful menu & you could have anything in any order according to our waiter. Food & service again were fantastic. This one night away was the only holiday myself and my husband have had this year due to circumstances relating to Covid. It was definitely worth the wait!!!

We stayed in the pilot panther for our October honeymoon. Treating ourselves to the taster menu on the first night was lovely. Food was fantastic and the staff are all fab (especially the fellow geordie Chris!) They were also super accommodating with some delicious food on the second night, the chef is tip top! Thanks for everything, we have 2 friends booking to come and visit already following our stay, and we haven't even gotten home yet!

What a wonderful 3 days we have had at this hotel. It is situated in a very special quiet area where you can walk out the front door and take in the beautiful scenery of lochs, forest and mountains. It’s a bit of a haul to get here but what an amazing experience when you do. My wife and I stayed for one night and enjoyed some really amazing food for both lunch and dinner. Next time I have to go for the tasting menu but this time I enjoyed the lamb starter (quite amazing) and the beef (equally excellent). Great walking nearby and a chance to just decompress amongst magnificent Scottish scenery.

Loved dinner at MM. From the canapés to the dessert the choice was truly local and farm fresh served with panache and style. As good as any Michelin starred restaurant we’ve visited accompanied by their own gin, local treats and topped off with a decent wine list. MM is not easy to get to - but deffo worth it. it’s 4 miles down a private road running along Loch Voil, we stayed the night - would be interesting driving back at night. Top callouts for the dinner, roasted artichoke, black garlic ice cream and stone bass - all straight 6 star dishes. Keep doing what you’re doing - we’re looking forward to our next trip.

Stayed two nights for dinner, bed and breakfast. A wonderful location at the end of the Balquidder Glen, this is an enchanting place to spend as much time as you need to recharge the batteries! We had an excellent spacious room with large and suite shower, steam room and bath. Breakfast almost matched dinner and provided the energy to walk the glen. Thoughtful, well prepared and presented evening meal. Only irritations were the excessive mark up on average wines and the noisy table of guests on one evening! Would not hesitate to go back.

We were very excited for an overnight stay here and honestly were a little disappointed. The overnight stay is unbelievably pricey and the room large and nice but slightly underwhelming for the cost. The hotel setting is beautiful, in a tranquil and remote spot. This, however, was ruined when we stayed by diggers and various other construction equipment making a noise until well unto the evening. Really spoiled our drinks in the sunshine on the lovely terrace, and no mention or apology was made by the staff. What made the stay worth it was the food. Outstanding quality and actually value for money. Wine and drinks also very good. Staff friendly. In summary, I would return for food but wouldn't spend the night again.

Lovely, elegant restaurant with very local food. This was our first experience with the Scottish style of serving drinks and canapés in the lounge where you order and then are shown to your table to eat. A very efficient and relaxed way of doing things. We were served "veggie haggis," which I think is the way to go with haggis, and other treats. The 3 course dinner options were varied with local lamb, fish, and either venison or beef (I can't recall). Excellent service, a thoughtful wine list, and, or course, great whiskey options. I was introduced to Glengoyne single malts, which we'd not had before -- yes! I wouldn't want to drive back out from here after wine and whiskey but luckily we were guests and didn't have to! I look forward to returning.

As foodies it was great . It was everything we heard about and hoped for . Great choice great quality . Accommodation in this extended farmhouse was very good. Some slight issues but nothing to take away from the weekend ( steam in shower not working ) . I read with interest some negativity around the service . Personally I thought service was excellent from the hard working wait staff but that said I can see how quickly the lack of structure the hotel has particularly in the restaurant could lead to issues. Some organisational improvement is required .

I am not a puddings person, but have to admit that the fireworks display of flavours, popping in my mouth, will stay with me for a long time. Banana Rum Parfait with the sharp seville orange compote and candied peel was a real 5th of November in the mouth.... lovely fellow guests, coffee by the log fire, in a word, Civilised. This hotel is some 5 miles down a narrow single tracked road to nowhere. Nestled beneath brooding hills by a gentle loch, you stumble across Monachyle Mhor and it is a joy. We had an amazing room (15) which was large, spacious and airy. The bed was immensely comfortable and, apart from one serious gurgling radiator, we had no complaints - although we felt we needed an engineering degree to work out the bath controls!! There is almost no WiFi of any usable bandwidth, which is one of the reasons why this is a great place to disconnect and unwind. Nice restaurant (reviewed separately) and the Full Scottish breakfast magnificent.

At the last minute we found ourselves with a rare weekend to spare. Having stayed at Monachyle Mhor many times before and always thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the surroundings and food we tried and failed to get a room (there was a wedding on). However we booked in for lunch on the way home having stayed overnight at another nearby hotel (almost as good!) Lunch was just tremendous. The food is just head and shoulders above anything else we have eaten in a long time. The flavours and the presentation were fantastic and, in my opinion, well worth the £30 for three courses. As ever the service was impeccable and we were surprised, for a Monday lunchtime, just how busy it was. Just shows that people will travel far for high quality food.

It was a quite splendid meal.In simple terms, I had a chicken & black pudding starter, monk-fish tail for my main and a chocolate pavé for pudding. These descriptions just don't do the flavour explosion of the cuisine justice though. The cooking on offer was very fine indeed. In addition to the menu items, we had some wonderful hors-d'oeuvres, amuse-bouche, cheese and petit-fours to boost my calorie intake! The service was cosmopolitan and friendly. We still take the long drive up the glen to celebrate special occasions and also take foreign guests who enjoy the drive almost as much as the meal. Tom is a welcoming host. There are also comfortable rooms which with the tight drinking laws means one can have a couple of glasses of wine and not worry about the winding road home. As usual, the meal was first class.

The staff are very comfortable with their jobs resulting in a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. The food was good with a couple of outstanding coursesUnfortunately the whole experience was spoiled by our black and highly polished car being badly damaged by bramble bushes on the 4mile single track road leading to the hotel. My partner is furious and now refuses to take me back, which I am needless to say very unhappy about. I do suggest the Hotel keeps the road bramble free in order to avoid future damage to clients vehicles. A lovely break sadly spoiled.

The restaurant at Monachyle Mhor would stand comparison with any of the better resto's in Edinburgh or Glasgow. What sets it apart is its location and its very relaxed, friendly vibe. For a Monday lunch I had a starter of pigeon breast and belly of pork, a main course of turbot with beef cheek and a dessert built around early picked rhubarb: for a fixed £30. The cover included their own bread, baked that morning, which was exceptional even by today's widespread Scottish restaurant standards. It was all well prepared. The service, first class. Rather too strong a similarity between the sauces with my first two courses was perhaps down to the choices I made. Allow 20 minutes to drive into the glen from the A84 and a couple of hours for a walk up the glen after your meal.

I dined at Monachyle Mhor on Saturday (but didn't actually stay at the hotel) and it is safe to say its one of my new favourite restaurants! Before arriving it is on a very long and single track road but don't let this put you off as there are plenty of passing places and when you get there it will most definitely be worth it. Both the food and picturesque surroundings make it a worth while drive! I chose to have the scallops which were cooked perfectly and were well accompanied with the pea purée and pancetta! I then had the cod which had the most delicious crisp and sea salted skin and was beautifully presented! To finish I had the chocolate delice which was also a good choice but not as special as the first two courses. Throughout our visit the staff were extremely friendly and efficient! Overall I highly recommend the scrumptious food and stunning surroundings - take a visit.

I was glad to have a driver who knew the narrow winding road leading to Monachyle Mhor, but it was well worth finding. We had a friendly welcome and nice little canapes with our aperitif. A tasty amuse bouche preceded starters of pigeon with foie gras and spicily dressed crab ravioli, followed, after an additional course of a tiny but delicious cup of soup, by extremely well cooked beef, and lamb served with spelt risotto. Desserts sounded delicious, but to accompany the last of the very good southern French red wine we chose the selection of unpasteurised cheeses, which turned out to be a wise choice. All in all, an excellent meal and worth the price at around £150 for two including wine and aperitifs. Next time I want to go in daylight, as the surroundings and the view from the hotel are said to be spectacular.

With no alternative plan we wandered a bit further into Balquidder and saw a sign for the Mhor. We decided to have a wander up and I have to say Kirkton Glen's loss was certainly our gain. We sat outside with our dog and the views were spectacular. The lunch menu was just being finalised so we ordered a drink in preparation. We both had the scallop starter which was delicious, then my partner had the monkfish with squid ink and cod roe, I have never been a fan of monkfish but was persuaded to try it and it was fantastic, I am now a convert. I had the pork which was so soft and tender it melted like butter in the mouth. What a beautiful way to while away a couple of hours in the sunshine.

about 10 miles up a narrow road but lovely scenery so take plenty of time and enjoy the whole experience. Great food beautifully served. sunday lunch is £34, for 3-courses plus an amuse bouche and home made bread. Nice friendly staff.

Whilst it takes a bit of careful driving to get there,it is certainly worth it. We only went for a plate of soup (which was really good !) the reception and the service we got was second to none. The young Belgian gentleman made us welcome and chatted to us as if we were old friends. The views are spectacular and the restaurant very intimate.

We were passing this hotel and popped in on the off chance for lunch. We struggled to find where the entrance was but someone saw us and guided us through to the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The views were fantastic, we would love to stop here for a night in the future. The food was really nice and reasonably priced for the quality.

The food was nice if not very slow in coming and the egg on my burger was burnt to a crisp, a much better ambience than was in the previous hotel ( kings house )but they need to stop taking themselves so seriously

Chef Tom Lewis is the cornerstone of this family run hotel and restaurant. You find it along a single track road which can be quite challenging but the journey is well worth it.If you want to stay there, the rooms are huge and a complete delight but you do pay for the luxury. We went for lunch in the restaurant and it was absolutely brilliant. We spoke to Chef Tom and the end and, not only is he a great chef but a darn good bloke to boot.Luxurious accommodation, superb food? If this floats your boat add it to the top of your list.

Calm and comfortable retreat in a beautiful lochside setting Friendly and efficient service. Marvellous food cooked to perfection. Minor gripes: bedroom in farmhouse was very small. Ambient lighting in the room was too low. Breakfast finished at 09.30 on a Sunday. None of that will stop us from going back.

We had our Company Xmas lunch at the Next Chapter for 21 people. It was great, lovely food and exceptional service. I would definitely recommend. Big thumbs up. Thank you Brian! ☺️

Stayed here for one night, our standard double room was a good size, with all the amenities you would expect. Nice room actually, with a lovely big bay window, very clean and tasteful decor. Breakfast has to be preordered the night before which really wasn’t an issue for us. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were roomy and spotless. Lovely big shower head in the bathroom which blasted off the cobwebs from a night of overdoing the whisky consumption! The breakfast was fantastic! In fact, my wife said it was the best she’d ever experienced in a hotel or b&b and that is saying something. Really well run hotel, highly recommended.

Staff are so friendly and helpful. A staff member explained the full menu and ordering due to us having an allergy. The food was fantastic, and the bottomless peach ice tea was a lovely treat.
