I had an incredible experience at Mestizo Chelsea! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The mariachis were outstanding, bringing so much energy and authenticity to the afternoon—it truly felt like a celebration! The real stars, though, were the team at the buffet. They went above and beyond, making the whole experience amazing. The food was fresh, flavorful, and full of traditional Mexican flair. Their enthusiasm and hospitality made the meal even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a place with great food, fantastic service, and an unbeatable atmosphere, Mestizo Chelsea is a must-visit. Can’t wait to return!

I don't normally spend my time on reviews, but given the expense of the bill, the location, and the social media hype, I feel it's necessary to share my personal experience to set expectations. I expected much more; in particular, the pastor and arrachera dishes were quite disappointing; the meat was tough/dry. The service had some areas for improvement, but everyone was very friendly. This is what I ordered (personal ranking from 1-10, 10 being "very good") 1] Chicken tacos with mole: 8 2] Barbacoa: 7.5 3] Pastor: 5 4] Arrachera: 5 5] Onions: 7 6] Hot sauces: 9 7] Horchata water: 10 (I don't know if "mind-blowing" applies to water, but it was very good) 8] Cheese quesadillas: 9. The cheese is very good. 9] Tres leches cake: 9 (it has a very small opportunity area, I'm not sure if they cook it traditionally. I feel like the flavors of the "3 leches" weren't mixed evenly. I'm probably getting carried away, but that's the impression I got) 10] The spicy salsas are good, as are the mild ones, suitable for all audiences. Oh, and they send you limes with your tacos! Great! 11] Tortillas: they seem to be homemade in a machine. They're generally delicious, but it seems like they're sent to you straight from the machine without putting them on a griddle. 12] Cleanliness: Clean tables, clean bathrooms, but the chairs we were given were dirty, really dirty. The underground seats aren't that dirty. Please pay attention! Overall, the experience, according to my British wife, was "just fine," which I generally translate as disappointing. And I agree. Finally, and for context, I've been living in the UK for three years, and I understand that we're not in Mexico and that it's impossible to replicate authentic Mexican tacos, but they could be closer. I think there are places that make much better tacos al pastor (e.g., Wahaca), and let's not even talk about "El Pastor." My feedback also takes into account local competitors in London. Thank you.

Absolutely love this place! Food, drinks, staff and the ambience is great. The last time I made a reservation Yasmin, at front of house was so helpful not only with my booking but throughout the the evening she made sure my friend and I were well looked after. Thank you Yasmin and to the rest of the team for ensuring my time at Mestizo is always pleasant.

All I can say is Wow! The food was absolutely incredible and Canelo went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable whilst ordering our food and also made sure that we had the best food! Big shoutout to him

This is my favourite local Mexican and I like the original one too. We ordered delivery and it was all packaged extremely well and was delicious as ever. Definitely recommend the guacamole and the enchiladas verde! We also had the tacos el pastor which were decent. Finished with the churros which we heated in the oven and they were divine!

Went for our son’s birthday so a lot of us. We had a nice meal and the waiters were good but gave us too many cakes as the dish is called 3 leches so we ended up with a lot more as they thought we were ordering three not one! Nice atmosphere but it’s very noisy- the acoustics aren’t great so you cannot hear any conversation you have to shout so if you’re older perhaps go at lunchtime. My 84 yr old mum was pretty isolated as she can’t raise her voice and couldn’t hear anyone.

A week ago I was with friends on Sunday during buffet time, the exquisite meats, tacos, guacamole, really everything. We couldn't help but try everything! I'm a fan of tacos so I couldn't resist eating more than once. The atmosphere was magnificent, the mariachis came to the table to sing. And the guys who served us were wonderful, the buffet managers and a wonderful waitress named Nicol who continually came to our table to make sure we were okay. Nice experience 😊

Information on allergies was very poor and treated as quite casual. For someone with severe allergies, I was quite surprised at how nonchalant they were. I gave all my allergies prior and reiterated them to the waiter. I also asked for an allergen menu but I was not given this but I ordered and he said he’d check that was all ok. However, he clearly didn’t, as the food arrived and I had to check again… Luckily I did as they then realised there were allergens and cross contamination issues that weren’t mentioned! For anyone with allergies, I would be weary about dining here, and I would not go back as I did not feel comfortable or safe after my experience. I cancelled the rest of my order as a result. There needs to be far more education on allergies and training given to staff. There was one waiter who was very lovely and positive, but the others were quite unhelpful and disengaged. The food that my boyfriend had was nice, and the atmosphere was also ok but our experience was tainted by the allergy issue and service.

Damian and a young waitress(sorry do not know her name) were very friendly and professional. Gave my Dad and I suggestions on what food to try and Damian even came back before confirming my order with the kitchen that something that I initially ordered was not in fact vegan. I definitely will bring back more of my family and friends!

The food was Good. We got the camarones tamarindo ( fish lovers). Best churros in London with really tasty sauces on side. Definitely worth the price and recommended . Our server Damian was really nice and polite and he gave us really nice fruity option for cocktails 🙌🏾🙌🏾

This place has the tastiest, freshest and most authentic Mexican food I’ve tried in London, and me and my partner have been to a few. Damian in particular was great and took time to explain the whole menu even when things were busy so we made the best choice for us. He knew all the tequilas and mezcals inside out and on that note we will definitely be returning to try more of them!

The only thing that deserved the money was Francisco the waiter. Helpful and cooperative and very pleasant and willing to help, in contrast to the rest of the waiters. Food was mediocre or worse. Even basic Mexican flavours were not cooked as well as expected. Too expensive for the experience it provides. Not recommended!

Came across this place through a Tik Tok video recommendation and it did NOT disappoint. We shared the taco platter and picked 4 different meats: al pastor, carnitas, rib eye, and the alambre. It was delicious. Highly recommend. Also, order the guac and green ceviche to start. Scrumptious! We were provided great service by Nicol. Hopefully you get her when you go!! If you’re looking for great Mexican cuisine in London, don’t miss this place.

Outstanding food and service. Our waiter was great and didn't make me feel dumb for needing to ask how to eat tamales (Unwrap them from the husk). The manger stopped at our table and we asked for dessert recommendations. He was 100% right about their tres leches cake, definitely leave room for it.

Good spot overall. My boyfriend and I visited for Valentine’s Day and we’re were pleasantly surprised at the generous portions. I would recommend the taco tray however I would like to see some more seasoning on the fillings them selves. The drinks were lovely and I would recommend the spicy marg !!

Guac and the Passion Fruit Cocktail were 5 Stars.. Everything else was ok.. and so then comes off as overpriced compared to US restaurants. (Spent 94 GBP for two and just had guac, taco tray and churos with one cocktail) The sauces for the churos were also very watery.. Nevertheless, service was pretty good, no complaints there.

Average food, rude service, weak cocktails. Wine is advertised as a 2018 vintage on the menu, they seemed annoyed when I pointed out the bottle they’d served was 2020. Waitress mumbled some excuse about the menu not being updated correctly, but when I asked to change it turned out many of the other wines were also not the correct year. After we’d paid we were sharply told ‘you need to leave’. A sad contrast to the warmth (and strong cocktails) of the original north London branch.

The service was non existent, most of the staff were not very friendly. The food portions for the price you pay were tiny and the dish was full of salt you could barely taste anything else. The music was way too loud. The restaurant could improve on all fronts. Very disappointed.

I had one of the worst dining experiences at this restaurant. We arrived on time for our reservation at 4:30 and started with drinks and appetizers. While enjoying them, we ordered our main course and a bottle of wine. However, an hour and 15 minutes after we arrived—before our main course and wine were even served—a staff member abruptly placed the bill on our table and asked us to leave. When we explained that we were still waiting for our food, she walked away. Another server then brought the wine, but before she could place it on the table, she was stopped by the first staff member. We were completely confused. Then, another employee approached us—not to ask us to leave the restaurant, but to leave our table and move to the bar, which was already overcrowded. His reason? A large group was coming, and they needed the table. We asked to speak to the manager, but instead of addressing the situation, they ignored us and left us sitting at the table for another 20 minutes with no food or drinks. After repeatedly asking what was going on, they finally decided to serve us. While the food and ambiance were okay, the service was absolutely unacceptable. It’s clear they overbooked and prioritized other guests over us, even though we had a reservation and were in the middle of our meal. This kind of treatment is unprofessional and completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening. I have never experienced such terrible service in my life, and I would not recommend this place

Spent 30 min at a table waiting for someone to take our drink and food order. No one came, so we bolted. If you want ANY service, visit a different restaurant. They obviously didn’t value my table or my business.

Was looking forward to trying their taco tray with my family on deliveroo. As a vegetarian I had limited options and realised I could not select to add one filling multiple times on the app, and did not find a notes section for me to mention this. I therefore called them to ask for assistance of just writing down my filling options (literally 4 options). They refused saying they are too busy and that it is too complicated - very disappointing customer service (I have never had this happen with any restaurant that I have ordered take away from). Perhaps they should rectify their deliveroo to allow customers to selection one option multiple times.

The restaurant itself is aesthetically appealing, but everything else about our experience was average and absolutely not worth the price you pay for, especially in terms of service. Food: Nothing to rave about at all. In my opinion, the food was mediocre at best and lacked real flavour despite trying several small plates and 8 different taco fillings from both the gourmet taco menu and the regular taco menu. The empanadas were dry and just missed the mark. For Mexican food, it was all quite bland and far from genuine Mexican cuisine, with the exception of the Corn Tortillas. Service: Service was really below average for such a highly rated restaurant. The service staff never checked in on our table to ask if we wanted drinks or anything else, aside from when they wanted to clear the table about an hour after we were done eating. It was always difficult to get the attention of anyone to ask for something, and they were unable to explain the concept of the taco tray and the other taco sharing plates adequately. Definitely subpar for a restaurant of this perceived calibre. Atmosphere: The restaurant has a nice design, it wasn’t too loud and the tables were spaced out well despite having a decent amount of customers. Nothing to fault them on there.
