Melo Restaurant in Southampton

Me and my partner travelled to Southampton for a weekend. We found this restaurant in google search and decided to have dinner in an Iranian restaurant. We were greeted very well by the owner. We ordered Lamb and chicken kebab with rice, The food was one of the best quality food we had so far. very nice cooked, tasty and soft. We have been to so many Iranian restaurant and Melo was one of the best and it's our favourite one now. The price was reasonable and I can say it’s a good quality and quantity of food. The dessert was very fresh and tasty too. The owner of Resturant was very polite and helpful. I recommend this Resturant to everyone who loves the good food.

Absolutely amazing food!! So well priced for what you get....you will never leave hungry! The best chejeh and koobideh kebab. Lovely, friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. Only downside is lack of other customer...always very quiet when we've been but always surprised at this as it is an absolute gem! Highly reccomend! If you are new to persian food give it a try you will mot be disappointed. Saw a review that said "London prices" absolutely not! £80 for 2 starters with bread and yoghurt, mixed grill for 2, 2 beers and a bottle of wine. I'd say very reasonable!

Recommended to us by an Iranian friend and she was right! Generous, fresh, flavoursome and excellent side dishes and salads. Good selection of deserts and teas. Very friendly service. We'll definitely being going again and again.

Came here with some friends to celebrate our end of exams. Food was really nice, has a good ambience and atmosphere. Could’ve been more vegetarian options available but we managed to work around it and the ones they have are great. Would come here again!

We saw the reviews here and decided to visit the restaurant last Sunday. When I phoned to reserve a table i asked them if there was a menu to look at and i was told to go visit their Facebook page. I was very disappointed with the very basic non existent ambiance of the place! There was not a single item on any of the old basic tables. The biggest shock was looking at the menu with prices almost double of what they are advertising on FB! These prices you find in top Persian restaurants in London not for such a basic low atmosphere cafe! We decided to leave and try the other Persian restaurant in town and were so pleased that we did.

We ordered the Kabab Bakhtiari Makhsoos at this Persian restaurant. Unfortunately, the dish deviated significantly from the authentic Persian kebab taste we were expecting. It had an unpleasant flavor that certainly did not align with the usual Persian kebab profile. Additionally, the meat texture was tough and challenging to eat. Moreover, the dish exhibited an unusual yellow color that was distinctly not saffron. It seemed like an excess of spices had been added, and the yellow hue did not resemble the natural saffron tint. It's possible that low-quality Arabian spices and food coloring were used, contributing to an unfamiliar and off-putting taste. Regrettably, the overall experience left us with the impression that this restaurant falls short in capturing the true essence of Persian cuisine. The absence of authentic Persian flavours was quite apparent, making it a disappointing dining experience.

This is the place where you can enjoy great quality food and fresh food. The atmosphere is amazing. We’ve been there many times and always had an enjoyable experienced. You can have amazing shisha with Persian tea and to many delicious desserts after food

The food was delicious and full of flavour and if you're a fan of large portion sizes then this is the spot for you! Everyone was super friendly too, we had such a lovely visit. The Lemon Mint frozen drink was really good, nice wine and really good value for money.

Last night, I went to this restaurant with my friends. The restaurant had very bad food with leftover meat and smelly rice. The manager of the restaurant, named Kaveh, was very rude. The restaurant does not use card readers to avoid paying taxes, and customers only have to pay in cash. to pay My advice is that if you want to stay healthy and not get sick, never go to this restaurant. Never

Yum yum yum Seriously the most refined, excellent quality and ambiance Iranian cuisine I've had since I left Iran. Their staff are very friendly and atmosphere is great there. My family and close friends are regular here and every time experience just keeps getting better. Thank you so much for your amazing service and yummy food.

Coming down from Somerset, we spent the night at Southampton for my son’s next day interview at the Uni. Instead of dining at our hotel we decided to have an authentic Persian food in town. I can not emphasise strongly enough how happy I am with our decision. Being born and raised in Tehran, the hospitality of the manager (Mr. Kaaveh) and his lovely staff (Mr. Ramin), was completed by a very generous starter (Mast o mouser and Zeytoon parvarde) and an authentic delicious Persian food (I had Bakhtiari Makhsoos and my son had Jougeh Kabab) which took me back to my youth and the delicious Chelo Kababs we used to have in Tehran Bazar. Excellent experience. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a friendly and clean restaurant for some mouth watering Persian food with a reasonable price. Just amazing, many thanks

I’ve seen really good reviews about this restaurant so decided as a bday treat to try it out. We were promptly sat down and given a menu and then ignored for over 15 mins whilst they were dealing with just eat drivers. I wouldn’t have minded had we’d been asked if we’d like anything to drink but we weren’t. Unfortunately this seems to be the case in quite a lot of establishments that just eat and Deliveroo take priority over customers who have bothered to make the effort to visit their restaurant. I can’t say how the food tasted because we left without ordering

My partner and I decided to look in on this restaurant a few weeks ago, and liked what we saw. We had a wonderful meal there recently of chicken kebabs and salad. Wow, the meat was so tender and flavoursome. My partner is quite the connoisseur on kebabs, both in this country and abroad. He said the whole experience is better than he's had elsewhere...we'll definitely be going back and are recommending this restaurant to all. The friendly & professional service is pitched just right and they took the time to explain the menu and ingredients to us.

Myself and my family have been coming to this wonderful restaurant from Day 1! As soon as you walk into the restaurant, there is always a warm and friendly atmosphere. You are greeted by the extremely kind staff. As per usual, the food is of a very high quality and super tasty! Today we came for a lovely Mother’s Day meal! To top of their already 5* service, the owner gifted myself and my mum a beautiful rose each (and other guests too). Such a sweet thing to do!! Can’t recommend Melo enough! If you haven’t been before, you must go!!!

We usually go to Melo at least once a week and each time on our visit we’ve been served an excellent food and beautiful, friendly service. I have introduced my friends to Melo too, and they love it just as much as we do!

Food was off and smelt of bad old eggs. Really smelly place , bad food and very bad service. Rude waiters. Very bad area too. No parking so i had to go far. and struggled going back to the car at night. Really bad experience.

Meeting friends for a catch up, one suggested Melo. I've never eaten persian before so wasn't sure what to expect. But it was beautiful. Nice big portions, very tasty flavours, meat cooked perfectly. Very attentive staff and social distances observed at all times. Would recommend

La zona de estar al aire libre era cómoda y perfecta para cualquier aficionado al fútbol, ya que están mostrando todos los partidos en vivo, creo. El servicio también era genial. the food was delicious but the service wasn’t great the waitress was cold and cut us off mid sentence and made us feel unwanted which made an awkward atmosphere it had a huge impact on our visit especially being first time. But other than that the food is decent

I had went to have dinner and sheesha with a few friends, we waited 1 HOUR for the food to arrive! when I enquired about the food after 30 minutes, I was told by a male member of staff that a big table had ordered before us, "its coming, 25 people ordered before you, just wait, what can I do'.

Siamo stati qui per cena e abbiamo provato lo special mixed grill con una porzione di agnello, due di kebab di agnello e una di pollo allo zafferano, con naan e riso allo zafferano. Tutto buono e abbondante, buonissimo il pollo allo zafferano!! Abbiamo anche preso una porzione di hummus servito con pane naan, porzione abbondante e buona.

Absolutely wonderful food- every dish was flawlessly presented and perfectly cooked. The shisha area is warm and cosy also- really nice to find a place like this in the UK (we are Lebanese) that is really fairly priced.

I was first taken to Melo by my Iranian friend. He introduced me to this new world of cuisine consisting of saffron rice with butter, skewers of fresh Lamb and Chicken, starters of aubergine and what not. Topped it with sheesha. I have returned back to Melo with my family and friends several times, thereafter.

Took the family to melo for a meal. I was pleasantly surprised with the restaurant and staff. Very friendly very clean and the food was superb . After the meal we had a shesha our on the veranda with some beers. A most enjoyable experience

Went here as a couple , had the salmon informed on menu would take 40 minutes ,which is good otherwise you would keep asking where is my food.

Went to Mello for a dinner with my family. Humus was clearly served out of a tin, bread wasn’t freshly made onsite, meat was a bit dry and not seasoned enough, I asked for a chilli sauce and got a huge bottle of buffalo wings sauce instead. Everything was slightly below average, so not sure about the 5 star reviews.

First time I’ve ever been here, and not disappointed the portions are huge and the prices are really good. The food was delicious would of loved a dessert but trying to explain food allergies was a bit of a nightmare. They can do gluten free as standard on mains but don’t add a diary free diet into the mix as the waiters look very confused at you so best not order dessert.

Always order mixed grill (either for 2 or 4). Portion is absolutely humongous! Meat is very well seasoned. You can also mix the rice with butter as well to enhance the flavour. Quality of food is definitely at a high standard. Staff are all friendly and helpful.

Well, what can I say I have been to some bad restaurants but this one has topped it today. First of all, I have never been to a restaurant that you have to pay first before you get your food. Secondly when you go to a restaurant your supposed to feel like your at home and invited. I felt like I was about to go to prison. Lastly, The food and service was mediocre need some salt.

First time here, the restaurant décor is simple, but cosy. The food is very good, we had the mixed grill for four which is very good for meat lovers. Good quantities served. The price? Excellent, 17eur per person. I tried the k1 persian beer and its good, similar to mediterranean countries blonde beer, with gas and 4,8 alcohol. Please visit with friends and Family!

Down in Southampton for a gig tonight and looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't a chain or a grease pit and found Melo - great food, good portions and excellent service - worth a visit if you want something fresh and tasty - and not a fast-food burger !!

Was recommended by a friend went for a dinner to try it out and it turned out to be a very good recommendation. Service was very prompt with receptive. Food was very good. Moderately priced and the ambience was nice with not so much of frills. Highly recommended if you want to try Persian food.

Went last night with my fiance as we have always enjoyed meals our at Melo, one of our favourite places in Southampton. Really not sure what the recent reviews are about as found the service good as always and the food very tasty. Had houmous and chicken salad starters along with two skewer meals. For £40 for 2 including 2 beers and a mint & lemon tea we thought this was very good value considering the portions of well cooked meat you get.

Great food as always and reasonably priced. I found the service more than adequate. The houmous in particular was excellent. 5 stars

I have been to Melo often as it is close by and convenient but time and time again the customer service of one particular lady with short dark hair is absolutely atrocious, she has a terrible attitude and is darn right rude. This really is a shame as the rest of the team are decent. safe to say I won't be returning there.

Having simply found this place on a quick google search we didn't know what to expect but WOW!! It could not have been better. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, service was excellent. The food was perfect, so delicious! This was the best meal I have eaten in a long time. I had the chicken skewer and the minced lamb skewer with saffron rice, everything was cooked perfectly and so full of flavour. We sat outside afterwards to enjoy a shisha and tea and loved the atmosphere. You could almost forget you were in England. I live 2 hours from this restaurant but would happily drive back there again as it was amazing.

My wife , my sister in law and I went there for a nice evening meal and spending time together. However when the food arrived the KEBAB were smelly and tasted bad. We call the girl seems to be the manager of some sort with the name of Sarrenaz who seemed very rude and aggressive in her approach. immediately replies; that she had no complained all day, and took our food away. This went for good 5 minutes and no reply to our complaine came back , when we called her again , she replied . You didn't like the food and I took it away, my wife asked her are you going to do anything about it she said not really.....it was so stupid as if we were in the wrong. We paid for our food obviously not for all and left.l will not ever go back there again.This only came aboit when I spoke to a colleague they had the same experience. So I decided to put a review.

Unfortunately food was very average and very chewy. The kebab is not really good quality. The worst part of our visit was the lady in black and dark hair, vertical rude and arrogant. She needs to change her behaviour and attitude . Also where is HMRC????? This is ridicules, charging you %10 if you pay by card. This is a a absolute ripoff. Will never go back and never recommend this place.

Fell in love with the koobideh here and the rice is awesome. Portion is not so bad and so are the prices. We also tried the chen jeh (chicken skewers) but must say it was a little bit too dry for our taste. The service is also good. Recommend!

It's a very nice restaurant with good Iranian food and shisha. It's a must try if you're in Southampton.

So the food was definitely nice here and we went out of our way to come here having read the previous reviews. Portion sizes were very good and the grills were tasty. Probably too much rice though so cut back on this and perhaps offer a larger portion for more cost for those who want to eat and pay more. HOWEVER!Two things were completely unacceptable. Firstly the manager (or a short woman with dark hair who is described as the manager on our till receipt) repeatedly had a go at my wife for daring to finish off a bottle of water she had brought with her as it was against policy! She came back again and again and at one point - wagging her finger at my wife, screeched 'I am talking to you!'. Unbelievable!! Really ruined the experience and any good will. Then, when I went to pay, apparently there is a 10 (!!!) percent charge for using a card to pay. See picture. I have never seen this anywhere in terms of the level of charge and can only think this is to encourage cash payment and presumable not all of this is declared for tax purposes then. Are you listening, HMRC? The same rude woman then pointed over to the cash point on the other side of the road as an alternative. I had cash so paid this way and left. No tip not surprisingly!!

Lovely friendly team, relaxed atmosphere - and most importantly - absolutely delicious meats, rice and dips. The kebabs are all beautifully tender and full of flavour. The star of the show for me is the zereshk polo ba morgh - a real treat! Excellent value too!

Iranian restaurant.....Warm atmosphere, clean, friendly staff and the food was delicious especially the 4 different dips we had as starters.....the main meal was huge I had salmon and rice but I couldn't eat it all..... would definitely go back there.

Nice iranian food, particularly enjoyed Gormeh sabzi. Starter was nice so as jojeh kabab. Would definitely go back as food tastes authentic and fresh/ healthy. Few things to improve, would be using better quality rice( iranin), and more varied alcoholic drink menu. Ambiance is average and slightly empty, it does look like a cafe than a restaurant.

Came here on a whim during the week for dinner after reading reviews and they proved to be correct. The food was amazing and served quickly. The staff seemed genuinely happy that you had visited their restaurant. Beware though the portions are very large whilst the prices were very reasonable. We will be coming back.

Everything is good, food is delicious, the restaurant looks decent and clean.They just need to work little on waitress,should be more friendly and have a smile. Customers should feel welcome, which we didn't!!

We visited the area for football and wanted something to eat and walked past the Melo that looked appealing from the outside. There was a outside area and a inside area to sit.We was given the option of sitting inside or out. The menu had plenty to pick from both food and drink wise. We decided to go for a mixed grill for two which was about £23. We was given a large plate of mixed salad to start us off followed by the main which was a large plate of different kinds of meat on a large naan bread with roasted tomatoes. You could have chips, rice or naan with it and we decided on the rice and naan. The meat was lovely and tender and cooked well as was the rice and naan. It all was very tasty and I would definitely have it again if I was in the area. The one thing I would say that could improve it slightly would be it needed a form of dip. I'm not sure what as I'm no cook but maybe a mint yogurt dip Staff very friendly and place was clean and tidy. We left about 1845 and it was getting busy by then.

Decided to try something different for Sunday Dinner and having been told about this place multiple times, thought I'd give it ago. Decided to go for a selection of different Kebabs just so we could try as much as possible. All we're very good and portion sizes were excellent, eyes were a little bigger than my belly in the end! :)Staff are excellent and the restaurant has a nice family feel. Will definitely be going back soon.

First time experiencing persian food and it was soo good. Loved the koobideh to the max. Service was quick and a super yummy sweet favor was given at the end of the dinner. Definitely coming back!

Wherever were we visit abroad and in the uk we always try and find a Persian restaurant. Apart from in Iran this is the best Persian food I have tasted. Feels like your back home with the laid back dining experience but don't be fooled as the food is home made fresh and outstanding. We would visit Southampton again just to eat here again

Very attentive service and a great family atmosphere. Generous portions and tasty starters. Thoroughly enjoyed an early dinner here - genuinely surprised by the quality and simplicity. A good find and we'll be there again although perhaps one or two of the dishes would benefit from being a little less dry - but that's just a question of personal taste. Well worth a try.

I have been there twice now but the Nan is shop bought and tastes old and dry.Their Ghormeh dinners although good in quality they Lack flavours and comes with small amount meat.their chicken Kebabs , Rice & Yougurts are good both in taste and portions

I visited this restaurant with my family after having had a relaxing massage near by... and couldn't believe how good the food was!! I was lucky to have visited and lived in Iran for a number of years when younger so I know Persian cuisine very well. In the past I've been very disappointed with Persian restaurants so didn't have high expectations even after checking the reviews on here. I really was SO glad this time it was the opposite! We had the mix grill to share and that was plenty for us four; my daughters who are 8 & 10 years old and have always had decent appetites ate much more than I expected them too, that's how good the food was! I nearly asked for a portion of stew on the side as I really wanted to try everything on the menu but had to give it a miss, I was already very full by the time I considered ordering again! I live in Portsmouth but won't hesitate going back regularly, I finally found a proper Persian restaurant. The lovely couple who was in charge made us feel very welcomed, I even tried to politely speak in my rusty farsi which took me and them by surprise but we all had a good giggle. If you love tasty food, you MUST give Melo a go!!!

Arrived thirty minutes early for lunch, to be met by the waiter smoking a shisha at the tables outside. It really set the scene, and smelt wonderful. He was very happy to let me sit and peruse the comprehensive menu before mid-day. This gave me a useful time to decide what I fanciedThe time came to order and he was very happy to explain the dishes and tell me a bit about Iran. I would love to hear more from him.The food served was really nice and tasty. I shall have to explore the menu in more detail before next time. The size of the portion was large and, luckily, a takeaway box was willingly supplied for the leftovers. I cannot wait to try a few more dishes on future visits. Keep up the good work !

we been there with mu friend and I surprised by the huge portion of kebabs. they also served good shishaa!!! after eating food you can set outside and smoke best shisha. i recommend go there and try.

We eat here quite regularly during weekend with my boyfriend, my sister and daughter. The service is excellent and food are really yummy and fresh. We use to go to London for having an Iranian dish but having Melo in Southampton stop us to go all the way there.I was privileged enough to be able to eat in this wonderful restaurant and met such an amazing people, This place make us feel like home. the staff are helpful and really nice and you are made to feel really special. Sometimes I read those mean comments about Melo and made me wonder how people can write such a thing? We go every weekend there and we've never had a bad service or being disappointed with food even once. the main courses are huge and they are so generous with potions. I can't ever finish my dish so we always take the leftover home with us. My very favourite dish is Shishlik , You should try sometimes and I promise you wont be disappointed

Amazing restaurant! We dine here every weekend and always leave satisfied. Friendly staff, great management and of course very tasty food! We usually have lunch there (always kebab), then go shopping afterwards and come back at evenings for shisha, tea and mirza ghasemi!! This place is more than just a hang out place for us, it has become our second home and if you ever miss Iran, well this place has it all! ;) And guess what! They serve the best falooldeh ice cream here! Very very happy with the service they offer and can't wait to see them next week! :P

Is the first time that I tried this restaurant and I surprised with their plate, it was huge and delicious. the staff are very kind and we will be back again.
