Maya Cafe in Newry and Mourne

This is now our favourite spot in Newry!

The food is absolutely phenomenal delicious 😋 I had the delicious el matador. The staff are fantastic which makes the place come alive. Lovely place i would definitely come back in future

Food was great as always, service was terrible. Reply: Hello, the member of staff last night created an unpleasant atmosphere. I came in and sat down at the 4 seater table to wait for my friends. She asked if I was the alone and I told her I was waiting for people coming. And she looked at her watch and walked off. Once my friends were there and we ordered, they all received their drinks and mine (a glass of water), I ordered bottled water but received tap water, took an extra 10/15 minutes to be brought to the table. My food was brought out to me 10 minutes before everyone else’s food. So, I awkwardly started my food so it wouldn’t go cold, I felt rude and embarrassed by this. When we had finished eating, we felt pressurised to leave by the way the member of staff was asking if we were done more than once. While paying for our food, the staff member never thanked us or showed any kind of welcoming attitude to make us want to come back. The food was lovely, but the whole experience was just awful unfortunately.

Service was rubbish, didn’t even get to eat because they forgot to put in the order and instead of the waitress to ask why we haven’t been served any food after 40 minutes of waiting we had to go up and ask and was told it wasn’t put in or a mistake was made on their part. Would never recommend this place

This was our second time in Maya Cafe on a trip from Dublin and the food was just as good as the first time. Very tasty burrito and top notch nachos. We will be back I am sure.

Excellent service as always. If you're after a vegan option I can't recommend La Flaca (minus the cheese) enough!

If you want to eat a real Mexican burrito, full of flavors and fresh ingredients, this is the right place, the food was excellent, the atmosphere and service excellent, we tried the burritos; el macho and nachos for 2, the food comes in very large portions and at a great price. We will come back for sure 😍

Absolutely delicious Latin food in the heart of Ireland

Lovely food, and great atmosphere in the restaurant, even when queuing. Burritos are probably the best you can get. They would put these "Top Burrito" places to shame, such as the well known one in Belfast... I personally love the Hot El Macho, great combination of flavours. Nachos also a favourite of mine

Service was genuinely excellent. The woman serving me was very nice, polite, and friendly to myself and other customers. She was very attentive, and exactly how you’d want your server to be. The food was great. Decently priced, and the portion size was good. I got a burrito that was quite sizeable and packed, and it cost less than a meal you’d get at subway, KFC, etc. Tasted great too. Nicely decorated, nice vibe. Will definitely be back.

Best place in NI for a burrito!! Once you have a maya, no other burrito will ever be the same. Staff are great and very friendly!

Well worth a visit if in area. Great tasting flavoursome food, and excellent service. Food is cooked to order. The staff working here were fantastic. Dining area is small but tables spaced, if eating in, it is first come first served, May have to wait for table (definitely worth the wait). Have vegetarian options. Also have takeaway and collection orders service.

Delicious food for all diets (vegetarian and vegan, included)! Server was so helpful sharing with me about my coin collection and also great timing of service in restaurant vs to go items. All around great experience!

Have visited this wee cafe few times. A wee something different from the norm. Delightful owners delightful food all food cooked fresh nothing frozen. Small cafe with friendly atmosphere. My favourite is the pulled pork burrito bowl. Definitely not pricey at will be back. Was my daughter who introduced me to the cuisine a must try ❤️

The best wee eatery in Newry. Excellent food at a very reasonable rate. Staff are fantastic and always make time for a chat between serving the scrumptious meals. Love it and have recommended it to many people.

Just wee small lovely place to bite some mexican like food. Really delicious and not too expensive. If you have gluten allergy there are a lot of options for you as well. Lovely service nice ambience.

Very happy with the food from here went with a friend who stands by it, for a person who loves the hot stuff this was 7 outta 10 on hot but the flavor was incredible, typical Irish person max 4 outta 10 on hot, very happy and took leftovers home which were still so tasty the next day, the lady service friendly and was a boss she knew the craic and her stuff can't wait to get get back and try some more stuff on menu.

Amazing family owned cafe with 100% authentic Mexican and South American food. Great service too and very friendly. They don't have an alcohol licence but very happy for you to bring your own. Can't recommend this place enough.

Been waiting for ages to get to Maya. It was worth the wait. Such a delicious lunch. Pork was fab. We'll be back!

Late review, but this restaurant has never left my mind. It's a humble cafe with brilliant food. Simply mind blowing, so flavourful. The people that run this place are very welcoming and kind 🙂🙂

Great Food and homemade lemonade and Great prices

The food is amazing, you won't get better anywhere else on the island of Ireland.

Burritos were really tasty, reach in flavour and made from fresh ingredients. Definitely I recommend this place. To top it up Maya Cafe have nice and super friendly staff! All of that cumulates to great customer experience.

Very chill vibe and really, really excellent staff. We went for lunch and were able to get a table. Burritos were excellent, we had one with rice and one without, both tasty. Tried homemade lemonade which was nice but a good range of other drinks available. All in all a lovely gem of a restaurant and well worth a visit. Will be back!!

Lang ventetid før vi fikk maten, men når den kom på bordet var det absolutt verdt ventetiden. Kjempe god burrito, enchiladas og sandwich. Gode porsjoner og gode priser. Kunne vært lagt inn noe flere friske ingredienser og grønnsaker, og vært litt mer spicy.

Real gem! We randomly stopped for some food and we were so surprized. Amazing food and great staff really friendly, I'm definitely coming back!

I have never tasted a nicer burrito than at Maya Cafe! The El Gordito is a firm favourite, it’s big and packed full of ingredients and is well priced. I have converted a few people to this place and each have said the burritos are better than any other they’ve tasted!

Lovely experience, really friendly staff. I have high standards for Mexican food and I can safely say the el matador burrito was one of the nicest I’ve had. Reasonably priced as well so I’d happily return.

Best food in Newry by a long shot

Best burritos I've ever tasted, and the waiter is very friendly and helpful.

Never knew there was a Mexican place in Newry, until we found this. The food is amazing and service is exceptional, we will be back many many times. Only downside is sitting area could be bigger and warmer, but still love it.

Forget Boojum, chiqquitos any other Mexican restaurant in NI, cafe Maya is where it's at, always the freshed ingredients best service and most authentic Mexican feel possible, the coffee is pretty great too, would rate higher if possible

Best food in Newry, fantastic quality with great vibes Friendly staff

We were struggling to find somewhere to have a healthy lunch in Newry until Google came to the rescue. Weirdly at lunchtime there was no queue outside as everyone seemed to be queuing at the butchers for their takeaway sambos next door. There was no way I was going there, so in I went. Ordered a pulled pork bowl with all the trimmings and a chicken burrito for my husband from a lovely fella. Very generous sized portions, very fresh, very tasty, glad we went there.

Great burritos. Good flavours and always fresh. Maybe a bit heavy on the cheese but always good service. Coffee is also well made.

I seem to be the only one reviewing this wonderful coffee cum Mexican diner but it sure is doing some trade in difficult circumstances. The coffees are always ace and the service is always welcoming. It’s take away only though with this darn Wu flu and there’s ample sanitizer at the door to splash on. I’ve been in a few times recently and I’m predictable as it’s large cappuccinos each time - but this time I spotted genuine Mexican cola for sale and other Mexican soft drinks are available here. So next time I gotta try the cola. It’s now near mid March 2021 and a year of on/off Covid restrictions yet we’ve no idea when these places will be allowed to re open properly and try for normality - now who was it said Wu flu would just vanish one day oops he got that wrong but he wouldn’t recognise truth if he walked on it barefoot.

Really good food, cooked fresh and can taste it. Good to order in advance at lunchtimes but well worth any wait there is.

TOP CLASS. Chicken cooked to perfection, sticky on the outside (grilled) and tender and juicy inside. Got a La Guapa burrito bowl (would highly recommend), substituting the beans for rice. Very filling and satisfying take-away, and significantly healthier than most (or all) of its counterparts in the area. Excellent service also, always. Unfortunately didn't get his name but he's definitely the main guy in there, very friendly and accommodating. Happy customer.

Best Coffee in Newry, Mexican food freshly prepared for every order & Service is excellent

It’s all change again but thankfully the coffee is ace - really top notch, shade grown and perfectly roasted. Funny enough while we have the range from latte to macchiato, cappuccino through flat white etc Gibraltar is nowhere to be found, not as much as the bespoke glass. The staff remain as cheerful as ever, despite the fact that their business must be suffering desperately, and their reasonable prices remain just the same. It’s takeaway only here once more with another lockdown underway but the politicos won’t call it a lockdown. These folks still get paid, enjoy self nominated pay rises (imagine being able to decide on your own pay increases and who have recently awarded their support staff (actually family members in many cases)) a 40% pay (and related pension) hike. Maya like so many businesses have lots of stuff at a counter near the door to sanitise and here’s the thing - the guy making the coffee can do so, I can go in, stand 3/4 feet from him and hand him cash to pay and take a coffee and change from him. But if he had this machine in his kitchen I couldn’t go in for a free coffee in his home. I could work with him all day but I couldn’t sit for a beer with him in a local bar for half an hour but we could meet in the local church for an hours service. So go figure. So do remember how important it is to help small independents especially in these strange times when the only certainties are death, taxes and money grabbing, dishonest politicians.

Best burritos I've ever tasted. I always go anytime I'm in Newry, the staff always have lovely manners and the service is great. Definitely check this place out if you're in Newry, you won't be disappointed.

Imagine my delight at finding this place open. It was late afternoon and I was intending to get a take out Indian from the place on Monaghan street. As I pulled up near the Indian I saw that Maya was open, with notices in the window about social distancing, only one person in the cafe at a time and that it was takeaway only. That settled it, I planned to put in my food order and go grab a cappuccino, but the best laid plans and all that. According to the sign in the window the Indian didn’t want to take cash; I’d have to go on line and order and pay then arrive outside and ring it. I couldn’t be bothered so I drove around to the other Indian. They were happy with a walk - in and cash. Order placed I got to return to Maya for the best cappuccino around.

Have been going to this wee cafe for a while getting food out of here and never have a bad word to say about it. The food is always lovely and always tasty can't never complain about it. It's a nice wee seating area, the staff are lovely and a good laugh. Would highly recommend going here for food

I visited Maya for lunch recently and enjoyed the tastiest chicken salad I’ve had in a long time. I love the vibe of Maya Cafe, and the food always has lots of flavour.

Called in here again a few days ago. I don’t get to go here as often as I’d like and most mornings when I’m on the move it’s not open. The coffees remain the best around and the ambience is so relaxed. I had a great flat white. Darn good and no downsides.

I have been in a lot of Mexican restaurants from Belfast to Madrid and nothing comes near the quality and standard of food in Maya. Newrys hidden gem.

A very handy stopover point between Belfast and Dublin. Food is always full of flavour, service is quick.

Absolutely superb, this is what Mexican food should be like everywhere, very fresh ingredients, the burritos are out of this world, hot sauces to die for, staff are happy and very friendly, great buzz in the place. If ever you are in Newry go there and experience real Mexican food well done.

Went for lunch here yesterday. Food was first class, great craic with the Essex girl who took our order. Would defo go back again and again and again. 5 stars 🌟

Best Burritos around. Cooked to order and very fresh!

Really enjoyed the burrito I ordered it was really tasty and decent size!The wait was a little long, approx 15/20 mins for take away. The only thing I would say is the restaurant is a little cold if you were to sit in. I seen the couples who were all kept their coats on. Really nice servers and helpful and will be back!

Excellent atmosphere and the best burrito

I ordered at 11.35am and received my food at 12.15, the cafe was not busy, I could have chopped and roasted the veg myself in this time frame. The tacos were nice, however the menu did not give any information as to what was in them.

Awesome Burritos, I think it’s fair to say that it’s the best food in Newry at the moment. Choose either here or Finnegans if you are a foodie or a coffee-ie and you are looking for quality

Excellent food. Recommended. Met the owners wife while she was working in the kitchen (very clean) and she is a real Latina so expect the food to be great. The style has a nice modern twist. Served with coleslaw to cool down the spices if it gets too hot. But they also are kind enough to ask you how much spice you can handle. So don't be afraid you will be overwhelmed.

Big burrito fan and Maya cafe does them amazing. Waitress very accomodating and gets the order right everytime even if you add and take away half the order. Burittos are so fresh and not greasy - way nicer than the chain boojums etc

Have been here numerous times and have loved the food on each occasion. Their burritos are amazing - authentic, fresh and great portion size. The female waitress is so polite and easy to talk to, and makes the experience even more enjoyable. So glad newry has this spot, an absolute gem of a place.

One of the (very) few cafés in these islands where I actually enjoy the veterian food, as opposed to enduring it, outside of a dedicated veggie restaurant … and they're rare as hen's teeth. Staff are super friendly and pleasant no matter how busy … and they can be busy.! Wish I could offer a 6th star, simply for effort.and the extra mile.

I was close by and I thought ‘it’s been a while.’ I went in with the intention of having a cappuccino, but I changed my fickle mind at the counter and instead I opted for a flat white.

Fair trade coffee, Mexican food and local vibes

I have visited Maya several times and have always been impressed by the food. On this occasion my daughter and her children accompanied us and they thought the food was delicious. It is a small cafe- almost a "greasy spoon" .but at lunch time it is heaving with office workers enjoying their lunch. the menu isn't enormous but adequate.

Food is great lovey and tasty and priced well coffee is lovely as well Staff friendly and inside as the Mexican feel
