Ordered Large Cod and chips absolutely amazing taste. Just like the old days. Great portion and price.

It was the best fish I have ever eaten.

Partner was craving fish and chips however we had always been disappointed with the chip shops close to us. So I decide to look farther afield and came across Mary’s. I ordered ahead as advised by other patrons here and turned up to collect my fish and chips. The decor was very clean, quirky as if it had been recently renovated. The oil looked fresh and there was a minimal smell of salt and vinegar but no heavy grease in the air. This isn’t your tired chip shops close with grease coating the wall. The fish and savaloys proudly displayed themselves in the plexiglass window and the staff looked ready to help Upon arriving they knew my order as soon as I arrived. Unfortunately the fish ordered was wrong (incorrect fish and wrong sizes) but it was an honest mistake and the food looked so appealing I didn’t mind. The staff were super friendly and apologetic and generally just good vibes people so just want an issue. After wrapping the fish the traditional way vs bulky wasteful carbon boxes that take up half your recycling bin I looked forwards to the drive home, hoping my fish would survive the trip and not go soggy. The fish looked great. The pics do not do the food justice unfortunately. I had also cut a 1/3 of the large cod before taking a picture. It was really big. And delicious. It wasn’t oily or too hard or soggy. It was a brilliant piece of fish. I had wanted haddock but got cod and it was honestly the best cod fish I’d ever had. The skate was very good and served in a chunk rather than some places that cook the entire fish flat. It’s not my fave but I hear it was very good and the fish so moist. I love that they keep the skin on as that’s one my my favourite parts and contains lots of nutrients. On the chips they tasted of proper chip shop chips. There is a unique taste to them that shops in my area can’t achieve. Some of the chips should be crispy. Other large pieces soft and mushy inside. The only other time I’ve had better chips is at a shop in Upton Park almost 7 years ago. That might still be better but this is closer to wins out. On the saveloy I was told this was okay. The place also does fried chicken which look delicious and normal large sausages which I must try next time. In all I think I’ve found my new fish and chip shop. A place that is well run, has excellent quality skin on fish, does decent chips that remind me of my childhood and has super hygiene.

Lovely friendly people who run this family run business. My first time but i will definitely be back bc they genuinely care about the customer and the quality of food. The food was hot and fresh with good flavour 😌

Amazing Food, but why are the prices so expensive on uber eats? £5.46 for a saveloy on uber but £3 in store.

You really ain’t getting better fish and chips in north London. The flavour… 10 out of 10 and if you so happen to be served by Mary herself you’ll be in for a pleasant experience because she’s absolutely lovely.

We stopped here for a mid-week meal. It was our first time and we were very impressed with the exceptionally friendly and generous service, and tasty fish and chips. We noticed a board of thank you notes dating back to 1992 - so you know it’s an established chippy (a fish institution) of the area. We ate inside. There is only enough seating for 2-3 people. The fish was cooked to order and they picked out especially large ones for us which was nice. They said if we called ahead the fish can be cooked ready for your arrival. My my this was definitely one of the best fish and chips we have had, and best in London! The size of the fish was incredible, and it was so fresh. Comes with the skin on which I personally like and the peri salt they have for the chips is so good. Mushy peas (homemade) and curry sauce excellent too!

Had cod and chips yesterday 8/8/24.why has it taken me so long to come here after living in Edmonton for 57 years. Everything about the food was spot on and as for customer service, what a wonderful friendly family. Made to feel welcome straight away.. Will definitely be going back and would highly recommend

I used to come here all the time during my term studying abroad and living in Ponders End. 30 years later I finally made it back for a visit; and although Mary is no longer working - the staff and food are as excellent as I remember. So happy I came back for both a visit and their excellent food. Will definitely return again on my next visit to London. Thanks for the great conversation and the delicious chips!!!

Friendly service I normally get chicken wings with chips, generous portions and inexpensive meal, I’ve never tried the fish although I’ve heard it’s very good, easy to get to if you don’t have a car as well, you can eat in there is a small bench table, my favourite local chippy

Good size portions of fish, and chips are proper chips! The decor of the shop does look dated and could do with modernising, but otherwise it's fast, friendly service and excellent value for money.

Had takeaway from here a couple of times and always a pleasant experience. Mary is very friendly and warming and seems to remember her regular customer which is wonderful as that's what businesses are built on. The place seems to be busy which is a good sign. Cash only so make sure you have some change. A local gem. Most items are halal and non halal items are fried separately.

After over 2 decades born and raised in Edmonton I finally visited this place just last week after a afternoon trip back from Ponders End train station. Met the lovely lady over the counter (sadly forgot her name 🤦‍♂️) who had such a friendly aura around her. She was always smiling and had such positive energy. I asked for recommendations as this was my first visit and she recommended their chicken burger which is all hand made in shop. I ended up going for their haddock and chips as thought I'd try their signature food. Had a nice chat with her whilst waiting and she spoke about the history of this place and then asked if i want the chips extra crispy. She also asked what sauce I wanted and she gave some tartar sauce which I don't normally see in a chip shop came to just over or around £11 from what I remember. Food was great, fish was nice and flaky along with the batter. Chips were nice and crisp too with the amazing tartar sauce. Only thing I wish were I came home sooner before the steam softened up the food though that's me to blame. Hopefully will come again one day so my whole family try you guys 😄. Again thank you Miss for your hospitality.

"The best fish and chips I have ever had" - This are words of my 11 years old son :) we are turists from Poland and this is his first visit to UK. He loves fish and chips ( we have it in Poland too, but taste of course is different. :)) I am shock have super hiper friendly the lady was. She told us bit of history of the place, showed memory garden, and of course 😁 she has some Polish people in the family (wife's of brothers and brothers in law ;)) Poland, UK and Turkey seems to have much more connections than I ever suspected 🤣

The only chippy I know that do spare ribs had to travel 5miles but worth every penny. Absolutely wonderful tasty ribs. I would highly recommend this establishment. 5 star hygiene food rating on the door. Staff very friendly service with a smile. Also ordered quarter of chicken and small chips to try. The lady who served me (I assume she’s the owner) was so lovely and friendly. Their food is really good and there’s lots of options depending on food requirements. Not an issue but they only take cash so make sure you have some when you visit or there’s a cash machine just across the road.

Warm and friendly place to get fresh and tasty cod and chips. My son always gets the savaloy and chips. Always more than enough chips. In the short time I waited you can see her regular customers are there and also people who have moved out of the area come back. The history behind this shop is undeniable and very endearing. May try a pie next time on my way home from work.
