We have been regulars at the MD for over 10 years since it first opened. When the MD first opened we warmly looked forward to the fact we could walk around and have a meal and a drink with friends. Over the last several years many of the regulars have left through dispute with the management and we have witnessed a drop in both service and morale in the bar staff. The management atmosphere is toxic and the staff have complained when asked to complete the simplest of tasks and we have observed the dress and service is disgraceful and the management team shown to be at best disrespectful and at worst very rude. The manager is at odds with all visitors and we see people spoken to in what can only be described as very disrespectful. We are a team of friends who are in our late sixties and early seventies so do not make complaints without reason however we have to speak on this occasion as my wife was very upset at the fact that when we only asked for "cheesy chips" we were admonished and told the establishment are not serving food and if we didn't like it we should just leave this was at 6:30pm and after we had been there for nearly 2 hours furthermore during this time 10 or more people were refused service we do not expect preferential treatment but as customers we insist on quality service as however Marsden is top of the chart in terms of price i.e local beer is 50p above the competition having had 5 rises in the last 12 months but lowest on service. We will never drink in this place again as long as the manager remains in place and whilst I don't expect this review to reach the published list locals understand this and wait with baited breath on the review being published.

Always a good meal here, frequent visitor as the staff and food is always great. Nice for any occasion and staff allways accommodating & friendly. Lovely menu & beer choice

Menu was very limited and surprisingly expensive. Not much in the way of lunch time offers or anything. My daughter had a fish goujon roll with a couple of chips and I really mean just a couple. I didn’t fancy anything so decided not to eat. Decor is pleasant and staff friendly.

This is a really friendly place staff are excellent Luke and Amy should be proud of the way it's run ,would return and recommend.

We were seated quite quickly and given the right amount of time to settle down and choose our food. The server was pleasant and attentive. The food was good. Drinks a bit pricey but ok.

Very disappointed with our visit. Brought my mum here for her birthday. Two of our glasses were dirty, one had lipstick on. Food was very overpriced and portions very small. Whist we definitely prefer quality rather than quantity, the food portions were very small and not to a great standard. I had a chicken kebab which had just two pieces of small chicken and then filled with peppers. One party member had steak which was very fatty. Not one of the meals were value for money and we all went away feeling hungry.

Family birthday meal for 8 over four generations. Inside was very well decorated and presented from the wine box tables to the glass partitions and eclectic mix of chairs. Most had starters, mains were steaks, F&C and burgers and half of us had pudding. £30per hear including mostly soft drinks was reasonable and the quality of the food / presentation was above par for a chain pub. So often if you have a meal of x and chips you get just that and perhaps some frozen peas if you are lucky, today we had dips, garnish (edible) and sauce which completed the meal. Well done Marston’s, after many years of driving past we are planning our next birthday meal in September

We took our grandchildren out for a treat and we all had a lovely evening. The food was excellent as was the service and the general atmosphere. This was our second visit this week and the fourth this month so hopefully that says it all.

Great varied menu, and delicious food. I had the fish and chips which was a large portion also. Friendly staff and lovely decor. All in all, a great place to eat!

We visited recently with our two children and were really glad we did. The food was beautiful and came quickly. The play area outside is a big hit for us and the prices are very reasonable. Would definitely visit again!

This is one of the best pub/restaurants in the area, we’ll managed and staffed by some lovely people. Food and drinks are of the highest standard and the atmosphere is always really good.

First class food, first class service. Excellent value for money. Ate here as a family of 6 and couldn’t fault anything. Will definitely visit again when next in Swansea. Thank you very much.

Went back to have another Sunday roast, this time I booked a table, that’s so quick to do on line. I prefer doing that to phoning. Everyone is friendly. Katie served me again, she is lovely and so accommodating, changing the roast potatoes for mash....

Really good experience, booked the meal for 8 for my mothers birthday and was not disappointed. Warm welcome on arrival and shown straight to the table. Food was served quickly and everyone enjoyed their meal.

I decided to visit to write up paperwork and was treated very well. I was greeted at the door, directed to a quiet table and promptly brought a lovely coffee with a forrero rocher, and the wait staff whose name I sadly did not catch...

We visited on a busy Sunday. It was great to see thr pub free of restrictions again and busy. I had the hunters chicken and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The customer service from Emma was brilliant. We will definitely be back!

Took my mum for lunch today. What a disappointing meal for the 2 of us. Mum ordered the "Mediterranean " salad which was advertised on the menu with grilled vegetables, kefalonian olives and pomegranate seeds what a joke it was a bowl of mixed lettuces...

Visited this restaurant recently and as we were a party of 7, had to dine on two tables. The staff were so accommodating, as it must be frustrating for them having to explain the rule of 6 to diners. We sat near to each other...

The restaurant as always was clean and the service was excellent,however I ordered the whole chicken as every time I have visited It’s been very fresh and moist today however I found the chicken over cooked and very dry I did mention it to one of the servers a male as it happens but had no feed back I didn’t pursue it as it was my mother in laws treat.Disappointing compared to all my recent visits.

We booked a table for our annual Christmas jumper meal. We were all very happy with our meals and the service. The food was piping hot and fresh. The staff couldn’t do enough the experience was an absolute pleasure thank you to the staff

We were a party of eight diners all former workmates having a festive meal, what an utter disappointment, four of us had the”Prawn & Crayfish Cocktail” described as being topped with “Rose Marie Sauce” as it normally is, however, there was absolutely no Sauce whatsoever, just Prawns & Crayfish on a bed of lettuce NO sauce, The disappointment didn’t end there though, I ordered the Duo of Beef, which I asked to be cooked Medium to well done, when it was served it can only be described as RARE, I had to send it back explaining it was well undercooked, when it came back it had been cooked properly but the mushrooms were absolutely ruined, it had obviously been put in the microwave because the mushrooms were as hard as bullets, all in all a disgusting meal, I did give it one star as the Desert was quite nice , but I would not eat at the Mary Dillwyn again. Avoid at all costs.

We popped in spur of the moment and were lucky enough to get a table. We were served by Katie who was friendly, helpful and bubbly despite having had a busy shift. She made sure we knew what was available before we looked at menu and food was quite quick coming out to us. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and so lovely to be served by someone friendly and naturally upbeat. Breath of fresh air

I don’t know what went wrong, my husband and I in the past have had a lovely steak meal, we were a family of 4 and 3 of us had steaks my son had his steak which was medium rare and my husband and I had the sirloin steak medium for my husband and medium well for myself, normally when you have a medium rare steak there is blood on your plate. not to my liking but the juice was clear and watery the steaks were pale and it seemed as if they were steamed and not under the grill, there was no smell of cooking in your venue, we were near the kitchen, as I said we have had a lovely meal in the past, Even when you pass the Marquis up the road you can smell the cooking, staff were brilliant but not their fault, shame really as you are now dog friendly, and it’s near for us

PROsService was amazing and we’re happy to change a dish to add chicken in. CONs* pasta over cooked * starters very bland no flavour* chicken very dry * flavours very bland in pasta * forgot one of dishes I ordered* didn’t asked us how our food was as I would have told them directly. Food was that bad we cancelled our dessert. I did hear another waiter ask the table next to us how their food was. As I left 3/4 of my food and cancelled our dessert, I would have assumed they knew we didn’t enjoy our food. Very disappointed in food quality. £25 for two course, not worth the price. £3 for pint of coke, that was a bit expensive. Won’t be going back. Save yourself the hassle and go else where.

Came to Swansea for business, didn't know the area, but found this amazing pub.Lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff. Great value for money, food was fantastic both occasions. Needed a taxi to the station on my second visit and they found us a number for a taxi company.Just a very pleasant and positive experience.

I took my Mum here for lunch yesterday while shopping in Forest Fach. We had lovely fresh beer battered fish & chips. Also, I’m grateful that we could get in as I did not book. Thank you

Went to the Mary Dillwyn for a meal , knew in advance there would be a live band there , What a great night , food was great , waitress really good , Band fantastic , people dancing , great music , great food , great night ,

Met for a family gathering at the Mary Dillwyn and the team managed to accommodate everyone from our grumpy old people to our screaming children. Service was great - and could involve both ordering in-person, and ordering on the app, which is perfect if you're serial drinkers! The Rotisserie chicken was grand.

First time visit and last! Food is over priced, disgusting, microwave slop! Wish I’d gone to KFC next door as at least you know what your getting! Left all my food, and the waitress didn’t even ask me if anything was wrong but I do appreciate that she may learnt not to ask! Take my advice give this a miss, or ignore me and I look forward to seeing your review. Really disappointing

Excellent Sunday lunch - gravy was so tasty, plenty of lovely vegetables, in particular the red cabbage. Lovely puds - would recommend pear, caramel and whisky pudding, and the berry sundaeWill definitely return

Fathers day Sunday lunch we all ordered the beef Sunday lunch we were served by by delightful Emma meal arrived in good time with good portions except for one which appeared to have less mat than the other two plates so we had to ask for more this was not a problem and they did apologise the meal tasted lovely not bland like some we have tasted in other places, you are able to order side orders pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese which they had run out of so had broccoli cheese instead which was not a problem the meat was of good portions and lean not hard to cut except for the additional portion of meat which was a bit tough we all ordered dessert which again was a good standard.Covid precautions were being adheared to and all guests must sign in.Very good disabled access with good outdoor seating and ample parking all on same level We have eaten there a few times over the last few years and have never had any concerns. we highly recommend the Mary Dilwyn

We visited after the firebreak and before the ridiculous 6pm closure and no alcohol rules came into force. The food and service were every bit as good as usual, despite Luke still being off on paternity leave (congratulations to the proud new parents).I fail to understand why pubs such as this have to suffer under the new rules. It was by far the most Covid safe environment we've been in for some time. Good on Luke and Marston, I sincerely hope you survive and look forward to our next visit (probably a lunch and a soft drink, if you deem it viable to open). Thanks yet again for an enjoyable evening out, albeit only for 2 hours!!

Terrible chicken” very dry and cardboard like with no taste what so ever..If it was cooked on there rotisserie it must of been 12 hours ago..Massive fan of chicken but will never try here again..

When we arrived we could immediately see that covid guidelines had been put in place that was reassuring, we were met by a charming young lady Georgina who showed us to our table we ordered drinks and our food we ordered our normal sirloin well done, it was served within 20 minutes plates were hot and so was the food and the side order of onion rings the steak comes with chips peas one large tomato and same for the mushroom, We thoroughly enjoyed our meal the steak had flavour to it and what I thought was a large piece of steak and was easy to cut we do highly recommend this place and we will be returning It is worth noting those with a Blue Light card it is excepted there with 20% off willThe decor is relaxing and warm everything is on one level no steps even to enter the building so Ideal for people in wheelchairs etc I waitress Georgina was polite and professional and we felt full after our meal so we did not order a dessert

poor service, cold food. 35 minuets before starters and when they did come they were over cooked and cold breaded mushrooms, soup of the day was tomato which was red water. chips on the main course were cold, steak had to be sent back as it was completely cold in the middle, pepper sauce was like milk with some pepper corns thrown in, service was slow for drinks and in the end we asked at the bar for the bill leaving all the plates on the table as they were not even cleared after we had finished eating. all in all it will be a very long time before we go there again.

service good distancing good main meal good but starters very small for price if it had not been 50% off would have complained seems they are trying to make up the shortfall of customers on small portions of starters pity we would not go back and pay full price staff briliant .

Visited for a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday; our 1st time here. The restaurant is nicely decorated with a welcoming atmosphere and it was good to see the waitresses using the quiet period to do cleaning of the fixtures and fittings such as the cutlery chandelier especially in these times of concern over the Coronavirus, in fact the whole place was nice and clean looking. Friendly efficient staff and delicious, succulent and flavourful rotisserie chicken with a good choice of sides and sauces. We each had half a chicken each with chips and salad, my wife had bbq, cheese and bacon topping and I had piri piri - both were superb. Will happily recommend and return.

My wife and I decided we deserved a meal out after a busy week. As usual we received a warm welcome and settled down with a glass of Rose Blush znd a pint of Pedigree. Wires got crossed and Luke poured a glass of white wine by mistake but insisted on changing it for the preferred Rose.I ordered the steak pie, my wife chose three plates on the Craft Platter, all of which she enjoyed and followed with her favourite sticky toffee pudding.The restaurant was quite busy but the service and quality of food were excellent, well done all concerned. Had a Steak here which as my title suggests was overcooked but the girls serving were very quick to rectify it and get me a fresh steak. Sadly that steak was also over cooked. I chose to just eat it and not say anything but i was disappointed. Won't rush back. waitresses keep up the good work though!

Great vibes as soon as you walk through the door. Fantastic meal compliments to Addas on a perfectly cooked mixed grill.The craft platter was definitely a must for anyone that is unsure on what to pick all washed down with an Espresso Martini YUM!Thank you Amy for your recommendations! Very pleasant place, the food was very well prepared and the staff very polite and helpful. It was 4 of us and we found the table by the chimney. We had 1 whole chicken to share (homemade grilled), 10oz Rump Steak and a burger. Also asked for some olive oil for salad dressing and the young lady brought us very good one. In another restaurants it’s sometimes difficult find olive oil for salad dressing??Anyway the food was excellent, the staff very polite, helpful and professional. We will be coming back soon. We couldn't be bothered to cook after a day (days) looking after sick granchildren and both opted for gammon, egg and pineapple. This turned out to be the best gammon we've had in years, super chips too. Well done Luke and his team, you're doing a great job. Merry Christmas to you all.

I am Martin, a driver for a Care Home in Llanelli.We visit the Mary Dilwyn about twice a month, with 6 or 7 elderly vulnerable people, some with dementia and the Home activity organiser.I have to congratulate the Manager Luke and his fantastic team, for the outstanding service they provide to us. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done in a happy way with a big smile.Today we all had Xmas crackers, James behind the bar was super helpful as was our server dressed as an elf!!The food is always great and plenty of it!!But knowing Luke’s team will welcome us, and try to accommodate any requests, just makes the experience so good for our residents. A person with dementia may not always understand the menu, or how hungry they are. Your team will let them choose anything they want whether it’s a small roast dinner or fish fingers from the children’s menu. They are a credit to Marstons, if you are happy that’s what we want, and it makes us happy!!A great team and it’s a highlight of the week for our residents who get excited when they know we are off to the Mary Dilwyn.Looking forward to seeing you in 2020.

Firstly, the christmas lunch is overpriced, but it would be overpriced even if it was 50 pence. Secondly, the meal was dreadful. The veg was seriously under cooked and no flavour. Thirdly, portions were small. This is my first and last visit to this hostelrie.

Met with friends and had pub lunch. Fish and chips were good. My son enjoyed his kids meal only criticism was it came out last but the little charmer was given a couple of scoops of ice cream after as an apology without even asking. Friends had tapas looked great and all plates cleared. A nice pint of hobgoblin went down well to. Good service overall very friendly staff in a normal modern pub.

We arrived on a Saturday night 02.11.19 @7.45 it was very quiet in the restaurant we picked where we wanted to sit the waitress was very nice and helpful I had their rotisserie half chicken and I did want the veg mash as it sounded nice but they had sold out so I settled for ordinary mash Which was nice and I had chicken gravy I did order extra gravy but when I poured it the stock pot had not melted properly because the water was not hot enough the waitress asked if I would like another ! my partner had scampi and chips Both meals was ok

We went for a meal27.10.19 about 4.45 it was not that busy we sat in the restaurant and waited to be served we got served after 15 min after going to the till we ordered food and drinks drinks came quick when food came mine and my daughters was cold it was taken away,came back after being warmed in a micro not very nice we were going to have puddings but could not find any staff we paid bill and left will not return.I worked in catering most of my live and found the staff on duty need to be trained in service we had 2 roast beef dinners and chicken buttermilk burger.

Ordered 2 cocktails which stated 2 for £10 but soon as I ordered she said the price had gone up by £2 which I said the board states 2 for £10 and it's false advertising. She could not charge me what the board said so had to pay another £2. Sat in the restaurant area but had to leave to come to the bar as the waitress would not come to take our order in the restaurant area. The windows and doors are in dire need of a good clean as fingerprints are everywhere.

I had the hunters chicken off the £6 menu, very nice food and the service was even better, Georgina with the long brown hair couldn't do enough for us.

Called for lunch as part of a party of 5. Lots of seating available, very friendly and helpful staff (especially Rachel S) and the most food that was served quickly. The only negative is that the main course was so big I had no room for the cheesecake I'd promised myself .... I guess I will have to go back!

After driving past many times we finally decide to call in for a weekday lunch. While the menu was fairly standard pub grub, the quality was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pub was nicely laid out and very clean. Better than expected, and will return.

I have to say the service was great before I continue as this review is not a reflection on the waiting/bar/front of house staff. In fact they are the only thing that stop me giving it 1 star. I order the 3 for £8.95 tapas style dishes. Roasted beetroot which was supposed to come with a sauce and but didn’t. Basically meant I ended up with warm slices of beetroot. Bbq chicken wings which weren’t bbq and were 100% reheated dry and tasteless, these disappointed most as they are supposed to be rotisserie wings. And potato croquettes, which were deep fried within an inch of their life. My parter has a pie that was soggy but at least full of meat, so not a complete loss. A dry and tasteless meal. Needless to say we won’t be back in a hurry.

I couldn't decide what to eat lovely waitress by the name of Rachel M helped me choose a meal based on my preferences. Food arrived quickly and was really flavoursome. I struggled to eat it all with the generous portion. Really enjoyed will return again

Upon visiting today for lunch with friends it was busy but food and service was amazing. Standard of service from Penny Williams was outstanding & was not phased by the busy spell.

Love this place, especially when a band is playing, the vibe is awesome! A waitress named Penny always gives the best service possible and couldnt be anymore friendly and hard working!

If they grew a hedge round the garden it would protect diners from the traffic.

My husband and I called into this pub/restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We hadn’t booked. A very pleasant waitress showed us where we could sit . Seating pleasant and comfortable. Our food order was served very quickly and was lovely. Very impressive on a busy Sunday afternoon. Even though they were busy we had excellent service from the waitress. I’m sorry that I didn’t get her name as she was such a pleasant young lady and a credit to the business. We would definitely return if in the area again.

Great but if lunch here with glorious weather and shaded dining in the beer garden. The furniture is of high quality and not just benches which is nice.

Myself and my wife go to the Mary Dillwyn at least twice a month, the food is good as are the staff very friendly.. the atmosphere is really nice, if you want a Sunday Dinner it's best to book a table as it fills up really quick, always a choice of meat Chicken (half a chicken) beef and pork, never had a bad meal there...

Called in as a group of 6 plus a child after running Swansea half marathon.

Thanks again, to lovely Luke and the Lukettes ( staff ), wonderful as usual. We didn't expect to be sitting next to Sian LLoyd the weather girl, ( prettier and softer spoken than on the T.V.) and Nashville's no1; Johnny Cash tribute and June Carter, and all this on a MONDAY lunchtime, I wonder what to expect on the weekend! First time and very impressed. The rating is based upon what is expected of the type of restaurant. Mary Dillwyn exceeded my expectations. The service was excelle t, the menu was varied and well priced. The quality of food was good and overall this was a very well priced restaurant I would highly recommend.
