Amazing! Food delicious, staff lovely, building unique, ambiance spot on! Service was speedy but not rushed. Love it!

Amazing food. The portions are a little small (but our family have huge appetites after a day of walking), but the food you get is cooked fresh and is light, healthy, and delicious. A special shout out to the custard tarts - so delicious we had to get some more before we left. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful.

Unexpected find hidden in a side street in Kendal that made our trip! My husband spotted the sign for Marra and as we were greeted at the door with a warm welcome we didn’t look any further. The food, the cakes, the service, the drinks were all World class, outshining anywhere else we’ve tried thus far in Cumbria. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Marra to anyone we know and we WILL be back! Please don’t stop doing what you do :)

Hidden down an ancient alleyway this small bistro style restaurant is an absolute jewel in Kendal where we enjoyed a perfect lunchtime meal. My pollo salad was a bowl of Mediterranean sunshine, perfect with an accompaniment of local brewed Cumbrian lager. The entrance to this establishment is very easy to miss, a single doorway tucked between the George & Dragon pub and the Tourist Information office on Branthwaite Brow leading down a narrow alley to a lovely secluded courtyard. The girls serving were extremely friendly and talked passionately about the food they serve, and also happy to tell us about the lovely old building they are lucky enough to work within. If you visit Kendal and hunt this place out you will receive a friendly welcome and some delicious food to the highest standards.

I love this place and the fabulous friendly team. It is such a hidden gem in Kendal but great to see always so busy and popular (we must support the small independents otherwise they will disappear). It is in a beautiful old building with super quirky features, serves epic lunches, scrummy cakes and makes one of the best flat whites in town. Well done team.

Marra is one of the nation's finest independently owned cafes. The food is incredible (best pizza I've had and I lived in NYC), the coffee and loose leaf tea fantastic; and the staff are absolutely lovely. It is faultless.

Lunch at Marra never disappoints. Always delicious - had a piadina and then rounded of with cake and tea! Relaxed atmosphere with lovely staff always there to help.

We stopped for lunch on a break travelling through Kendal and were lucky to discover this restaurant tucked away along a passageway. It has wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and great food.

This is an interesting, rather rustic cafe with an Italian slant. One of the nicest of this type we've ever visited. We'll definitely return if we get the opportunity. A member of staff welcomed us as soon as we stepped through the door and the service remained very friendly and professional throughout. The menu is fairly simple but with enough choice. For our lunch we chose a flatbread bacon sandwich and a (sourdough) mediterranean vegetable pizza. We halved and swapped these so that we could taste both. The dessert icecreams were very good and the tea and the (decaf) coffee were really excellent. The freshness and high quality of ingredients spoke to the fact that everything was prepared with t.l.c. As a bonus, if you need fresh bread or cakes to take away, their bakery in the entrance sells such items. We bought some Portuguese tartlets for our friends' tea. Two more points ... firstly, it's rather tucked away down a little alleyway so do have a clear idea of where it is. Secondly, anyone allergic to dogs should be aware of the dog-friendly policy. That said, we shared the upstairs section with three canines who were loving towards the human clientele but not so tolerant of each other.

So glad I bought the Indy Coffee Guide and found this gem. We had coffee here and liked the place and menu so much we returned for lunch. Superb lunch at reasonable prices, great service from ultra friendly staff and owner. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely gorgeous! I had a truly delicious lunch of a sourdough flatbread filled with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and it was one of the yummiest things I’ve ever eaten…..totally delicious and I can’t wait to go back to this unique little place tucked away in Kendal. The staff were lovely too and I highly recommend this little treasure! Thanks for making my mooch round Kendal so memorable and delicious!!

A gem indeed, but no longer hidden - as some reviews would suggest. Word has got round, and rightly so. Delicious food and excellent service. They are so welcoming and friendly. Friend and I shared a pizza and chef made us a pizza with two different toppings, so worth asking. (A request to patrons visiting on a cold or rainy day: please don’t stand in the doorway and expose the table by the door to the elements).

Finally visited this place having followed them on instagram for a while, and it did not disappoint. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food was the best we’ve eaten in Kendal for a very long time. The wild broccoli pizza was outrageously good.
