Came here couple of weeks ago with my daughter for breakfast. Gentleman was really nice I’m not sure is it owner or staff but really positive. Food just amazing. Portions are huge 😄 today came back again with my niece and no complaints at all. Very reasonable prices. Recommended 💯

Delicious curry goat for only £10! Most of the food is significantly cheaper than £10 as well. Chap (Marcel?) is very friendly

I paid £6.50 for probably the worst sandwich I've ever eaten. Its was 2 vegan sausages chopped in half with 4 slices of tomato on a dry bread cake. Probably less than £1.50 to put together and if the sandwich was half the price paid I wouldn't have minded but what I was handed was a joke. The server was really nice though nothing against him but if your a vegan in area and looking for something to eat I wouldn't go here.

Chose this place as we would rather give business to small independent coffee shop rather than any major chains. 3 coffees and a bacon and egg bap for £14.50. Only good value if the food and drink are good, if not better. Unfortunately, the bap was really poor: bacon reheated and not fresh; egg seemed reheated, white was rubbery and the yolk was absolutely solid. A bacon and egg bap should not be hard to get right. The gent who served us was excellent. Hopefully the food will be better when we next visit.

What a lovely little cafe. Extensive menu including vegan and vegetarian options. We had a very tasty goat curry, a jerk chicken, vegan breakfast and a goats cheese and roasted veg ciabatta. Great service considering there only seemed to be one person serving. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area.

A really nice place to visit and the staff were very friendly. The food was also very good. I will definitely visit again.

A small and cosy cafè with the friendliest of staff and great for value food! The menu selection is good, lots of different options to choose from. I had a bacon and brie toastie/sandwich and it was honestly to die for, it was sooo good! Our server, believe it may have been Marcel himself, was such a nice guy, provided great service and we were all very happy with the overall experience. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a good breakfast spot!

Nice spot for a coffee, cake or something more substantial. Quite a few foodie pop ups in Meanwood, but if you want a relaxing place with character, great prices and wonderful food, then this is the place. Go where the locals go, and it is all mostly homemade and tasty snap.

I only called in for a coffee, but enjoyed my visit. Marcel is a very friendly, pleasant guy, and clearly works very hard. I'll be back for something to eat the next time I'm in Meanwood.

Just got back from having a really yummy breakfast! It's no wonder this place has stood the test of time, gracious service and great food at a good price.

The loveliest customer service I think I've probably had in years. loved it, and I'll definitely go back.this guy could teach the nonchalant customer facing that the big players offer a thing or two . No fried bread though 😩😁

Great breakfast, friendly service

We went to Marcels to get a takeaway food for lunch and ordered jerk chicken with rice and peas and one portion of tuna pasta bake that came with chips. The chips were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had, and the jerk chicken was absolutely delicious! Lovely service and really affordable, can’t wait to go back!

Food here is great. The gentleman serving is run off his feet, but does a great job. He even makes his own bread to sell, so you can just pop in for a loaf if you don't have time for a coffee. Deserves a bigger spot. There is no public loo, and it would be a bit tight for a wheelchair user, but it's well worth a visit. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid back. Would recommend the Curried goat, and also the cakes - yum!

Been there couple of times with my Auntie. Marcel makes the place with his warm friendly smile. He does a great bacon sandwich and a big pot of well made tea.

Marcel's has been providing good food and good coffee in Meanwood for over 20 years now. I remember visiting back in 1997, long before Meanwood underwent the relative transformation that resulted in the arrival of " East of Arcadia", Waitrose and the various restaurants and bars that have sprung up since. At that time Marcels was very much a lone outpost on Meanwood High Street, providing something that was not otherwise available to locals and it rapidly became something of a cult venue to students and young professionals in the area. I dropped in recently and was delighted to see it still going strong, despite increased competition ( and despite it having been closed recently because of a family bereavement). The owner, Victor is as friendly and efficient as ever and he still provides a mean cup of coffee and a great selection of sandwiches and cakes ( the flapjack was particularly moist and delicious). I recommend that you drop in if in the Meanwood area.

The Jamaican owner, Marcel, is very friendly and knows how to run his cafe. One of us had a Big Full English and the bacon was with no fat which is a nice detail. He also has sandwiches he can prepare for you on the spot. Reasonably priced too. I live right next to this place so i'llbe coming here more often.

We've been there twice now, both times really impressed by the speed of service, the care and effort put in, the range and quality of food on offer at very reasonable prices. We will be back.
