Mandarin Karma in Derry

Excellent service friendly staff I have been using this establishment for years take away service outstanding. So now I am looking forward to actually going for a meal soon. I have only recently been getting outdoors for the last 2 year's due to mental health problems mobility issues COPD and PTSD etc.

Was given an express menu on Saturday (Staff not bothering to inform it’s not applicable on Saturday while seeing us ordering from the menu). The details on menu was not clear, giving false information to the customers. The staff’s attitude were rude, very bad in explaining, very arrogant. 1 meal cost 20 per person, low-standard taste with expensive price. Not worth. Not recommended. Very disappointed.

Not recommended due to bad attitude and impatience of the staffs’. Don’t go if you don’t want to ruin your day.

Staff didn’t explain the courses and put the menu that is not for weekend on a Saturday. The attitude of the staffs are really rude, we have a really bad experience. Not recommended

Great restaurant I go fairly often.

Lovely spot with great food. More importantly great options for coeliacs/gluten free options.

We had a takeout on a Wednesday night. It was so disappointing. We have previously eaten in the restaurant so expected a good quality meal however the best compliment I can give is that it was edible. My husband got Prawn with Bkack Bean Sauce and it was watery, my King Prawn Curry was OK but for the price prawns, onion and curry sauce was a let down. We also ordered Vegetable Spring Rolls which were overcooked and tasteless. Overall while we were previously impressed with the sit in restaurant food we won't take a chance on either sit in or takeout again 😔

Went tonight and had a lovely main was served quick and the food was delicious. Also had great service of a young staff member named Eden she was very helpful. Very lovely

Pros: lovely staff, good service, nice atmosphere. They're doing a lot of stuff right. Cons: food was poor to middling and shockingly expensive for what it was - a bit of white and fried rice and chicken in sauce. Nearly £20 for a main. For Derry, you need to do a lot better on the food for that price. I am surprised they were so full. I remember the food being better years ago but I would not go back again.

The young lad serving us was excellent, great fella... The food though was a bit underwhelming and wee local Chinese, for me, is nicer.

Nice restaurant with a good atmosphere while in Derry city. They had a Christmas deal with three courses for around £30. The cocktails were unique to the restaurant and interesting. We were able to walk in without a reservation.

Horrible food. Probably the blandest food experience I’ve had in Derry.

Went here early evening for a meal for two. The staff were very friendly and helpful but the food was just alright -- nothing better than anything ordered from a local takeaway. Our curry was a bit bland and the Peking Chicken was very, very sweet. Not in a rush to hurry back and experience the food again.

The food was great here one time but has sadly gone downhill. The trigon starter wasn’t bad but in a bizarre move they were served with mayonnaise. The main course of salt & chilli chicken was dry and tasteless unfortunately.

Ordered a takeaway for three. It came at a good time. I put the food out and started to eat when a small black bug came crawling out of the fried rice and ran off the plate which we then killed. I rang in to say about it and was offered a new meal but I didn't want a new meal, I wanted a refund and was told they don't do refunds. They said they would put credit on our next order but I will never eat in or out of this place again. This is the worst hygiene I've ever experienced from a takeaway.

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous. From door to table to service to leaving I was walking past and noticed restaurant was busy always a good sign). It was about 5.30 on a Saturday afternoon 23/8/33. No table booked but the lady allowed me to wait (seated) and I was called quickly. The food and service was fantastic. All staff were beyond what I would expect. I would definitely return and recommend 100%

Ordered a takeaway online which was really easy to do and payment was straightforward. Received a message to say delivery would be 45 minutes. I thought it was a bit long but then it was Friday night so could be busy. After 55 minutes I phoned to chase my order and was told it had left and would be with me shortly. A further 10 minutes later (65 minutes) I called again and was told that the orders "had gone crazy" and the driver hadn't left at the time of the previous phonecall however he had left subsequently and should be with me shortly. Food arrived after 70 minutes rather than the quoted 45 minutes. I don't like that other orders had been prioritised over mine, or that I had been told my order had left when it hadn't, and I don't like that when I had paid my money the food hadn't been delivered on time as promised, especially as the time proffered was from the restaurant's end and wasn't divulged until after payment had been made. The food was OK though when it finally arrived. Probably won't use them again.

Strongly recommended to stay away from this restaurant, For the ridiculously expensive price we were expecting a truly delicious meal but was awful. Only good thing were the drinks

Very disappointed, would get a better quality food from any Chinese take away. Prawn cocktail was the worst, poor quality tiny prawns flooded in mayo sauce, the main dish with spring onions and ginger had very little ginger in it. The only good thing is the decent portion size and nice staff but won’t be back.

What can you from when you walk in until you leave friendly helpful staff who can't do enough for you to the beautiful food

Amazing restaurant, eaten on many occasion here and every time the food and service was amazing. One thing I think could be improved is the use of half portions for children as my son wanted sweet and sour chicken and rice and I felt the price was quite high and really only 2pound less than a adults meal :(

Great for Sunday lunch with a difference. Set menu is £26.00 for 2 courses on the Express menu per person. If children eat on the express menu they are charged as adults. Kids menu is western foods.

Great food, great personal service and good all round atmosphere! We visited this place early evening on a Monday and it was packed! Shows the popularity of this place! Reasonable prices too!

Here on holiday and went into the restaurant for a meal last night and it's the best place I've ever eaten in 🥰 my mum has a limited soft food diet and they catered for her needs amazingly 🥰 can't wait to come back again soon 😁 also the takeaway is great too if you don't fancy sitting in 😊 thanks again

Find was excellent. It wasn't that busy but bar very very slow in bringing drinks to table. We ended up double ordering our drinks so as not to have to wait. Otherwise, okay. Over priced in my opinion cause of slow service.

Very good food, tasty and big portion, defo worth the price, good drink and cocktails as well, I don’t give 5 stars just because I been there once, I would love to come back ASAP but I was on holiday in Derry, by the way really recommended and the place inside is very beautiful, great looking restaurant, unfortunately didn’t take pictures, only one. The only thing that maybe is not nice is see not Chinese staff inside a Chinese restaurant, but the workers were great, kind and polite…

Very busy Chinese place with very good food. We didn’t have a booking so we had to wait a little bit for a table but they have a cool waiting area that you can still order drinks while waiting. Service was very quick, staff very friendly. We had the Cantonese King Prawns and sweet and sour chicken balls. Portions were bery generous and both were super tasty. 10/10

Service was awful, some young boy with a beard called me a liar because he said I never ordered a side of chips when I did, maybe he didn't hear me properly but to be told "naw, I'll tell you for a fact that your lying lad" is shocking. Won't be back, put right off the place, the cheek all over a side of chips was ridiculous.

Expensive, but very mediocre food, e.g. simple dish such as Singapore noodles cost 18 pounds. This place is still stuck in the past, chinese-euro cousine of the 80s, heavy on sweet and sour dishes with low quality rice, on the positive note the service was nice and friendly.

Food is fresh and plentiful but everything we ordered was missing something just a bit bland. I have had better takeaways from other places

First time eating here... Superb!

Been here twice! Was here last night, me and my misses both went for the Thai curry, I got green and she had the red Thai curry. The portions were huge we could hardly finish it, so you get a lot for your money! The staff are lovely and the food is bang on everytime!

After reading reviews I bought my food from here and was not disappointed. Everything was absolutely delicious. Well packaged and presented. Good value. I'm staying in a hotel nearby and next time I'm here il be getting my food at Mandarin Palace :)

Cost - No set menu and far too expensive for the food Service - good quick service Atmosphere - nothing special What I ordered would of been a usual take away which would of cost No more than £30 MAX. But in the restaurant it cost over £60?? I won't be eating in the restaurant again.

One of the best value nights out you will get.

We went for dinner on a Friday night around 8/9pm. Not too busy, ordered our food and drinks. We were told the angel hair starters would take 20 minutes and we said we'd wait for them, they came out within 10 mins. We wanted to ask for drinks and even with the almost 10 members of staff walking around, we struggled to get the attention of the staff. We finally ordered more drinks and we had to follow up with the staff as we never received them. We received the mains, sweet and sour chicken was a bit bland and we reckon the duck was reheated and it was really fatty. We stopped eating the duck and just ate the chicken, at least that was edible. Nobody came near us to check if the food was okay so we didn't complain until the chicken was finished(we shared). We complained to who we thought was the manager and he just said that we should have said it to him.. If we had staff come over and check about the meal we would have but unfortunately trying to get attention of staff that had no interest in working just wasn't worth it. And then when we went to pay, there was a group of male staff all hanging around the bar laughing loudly. We ended up handing in the bill and leaving. Not an enjoyable experience at all, and a bad start to our holiday in Derry

Food is okay. Setting is good. Price is 2 high for what you get. Otherwise fine.

I would usually give 5 stars to the Mandarin Palace but tonight I was very disappointed and I have only awarded 3 stars. I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken but was very surprised to find that there were no vegetables or pineapple in the sauce, it was more like a red clear soup. On saying that I have to state that the chicken and the rice were perfect and up to their usual high standards. I know there are shortages of fruit and vegetables at the moment but I dread to think what if there had been a shortage of chicken?

Place looks lovely. Waiting staff very attentive. Food let it down. Was cold, watered down sauces. Complained had one uneaten meal. Got a sorry. Would not reccomend. Disapointing

Travelled to Londonderry/Derry for the pantomime with my wife Donna and 2 girls Kara and Ayla and thought we would give the Mandarin Palace a visit after for our tea. I must say that it was the best sit in Chinese meal we have had for a long long time. Service was excellent from start to finish with a great selection of cocktails on offer and prepared to the highest standard. Food was excellent from the starters to the Irish Coffees we had to finish. We will definitely be visiting again very shortly. Many thanks to all the staff for there very efficient and friendly service. Neville & Donna Maguire.

Had been meaning to call in for years as we visit Derry regularly, but never got round to it. Finally, myself and the wife went in for a meal and can't recommend it highly enough. The food was prompt and delicious, the staff were friendly and very helpful. Next time we're in Derry we'll definitely call in again!👌

DISASTER without further ado, my partner is a vegetarian and orders the Thai vegetable Green curry and when they bring the dish it comes with chicken......... with the resulting anger and having to wait for it to be made again ( and we are also waiting). That can NEVER happen in any restaurant that is considered a restaurant as such. And on top of that, when we complain, they go and don't even take it seriously. In short, I will not return to the restaurant again and I will not recommend it.

Return visit to this restaurant after 5 years. Food and service still amazing. The buffet for 2 is reasonably priced and tasted amazing. Was able to swop one of the set dishes for another dish without any hassle.

Sometime Elvis comes out singing and has the whole place participating it's brilliant I love the food the staff and the location, a lovely view of The Foyle can be seen as you eat

Beautiful restaurant a little bit overpriced for main courses

Was there at 7.45 for 8pm sitting and staff very professional and seated right away, they have it down to a fine art as drinks promptly served and order taken, food was very good but my only criticism which is not a slight on the clientel but lots of kids milling around and noisy but enjoyable none the less.

We attended the Mandarin Palace for a birthday party with 7 in our party (6 adults and a child) The restaurant atmosphere is pretty good but the tables are maybe just a little snug. Unfortunately, felt the service direct to our table was just about ok with simple things like water to the table missed when asked for. The server also returned a number of times to the table to clarify the order. The food was tasty and hot when served but some side / main orders were initially not served and had to be asked for. The main issue I had was the price. One of the party ordered a beef curry, which came in at a whopping £14.80 pretty much some beef, curry sauce and onions with a side of rice (Not the most adventurous but still a menu item) which we thought was a little pricey. The same for the salt and chilli chicken...thus portion being quite small. Overall the meal came to £200+ with no alcohol consumed as most of us were driving.

Top quality food. One or my favourites in Derry. Relatively pricey but worth it.

Nice place to look at but got food positioning from there chicken 🐔 and was ill for 5 days tummy was like a tumble dryer for a week and went through a lot of bog rolls if u get my drift.
