Mandarin City in Belfast

Had a delivery from here and very disappointing.

Great food with a great service. The food came really quickly and both my partner and myslef really enjoyed our meals.

Interior was very nicely decorated and felt cozy Great service 10/10 Clean bathrooms Food could’ve been better, the chicken and duck were way too sweet No cucumber at the salad bar Sushi and miso were pretty good They offer candy at the salad bar!

Been getting out of the manderin for years both pick up and sit in and I have to say it has went downhill from covid and they started doing deliveries. Got out of here tonight and got frozen chips that where so dry 😫 I get out of here cause it states fresh chips, prawn crackers have halfed in size 🙃 and chicken was slimy and definitely not fresh. Sorry but this will be my last visit I always would have recommended this place even if it is more expensive but not anymore. OVERPRICED and not great quality.

Very disappointing food hubby got duck with bean sprouts it was full of salt, I got curry it was ok didn’t finish and ask to take it home, couldn’t believe they charge 50p for plastic carton to take food home, this place is over priced and over rated won’t be back

We called in for a take away dinner after a day in Belfast. Opted for a chicken chow mein Well there was no sauce, no veg…not even an onion or bean sprout Really poor show for the price. In fact not good no matter the cost It had little to no flavour, and was dry and bland Very very disappointed In an area of outstanding takeaway spots they really need to up their game. Will not be back

Staff lovely, food absolutely awful. So overpriced for average food. I cant comment much on atmosphere as i had a takeaway. Take your money elsewhere. How does this place have 4.4 stars is beyond me.

Very dissapointed. Sundries are charged seperately to your main dish. I had Prawn Toast starter which I am always pleased about however my sister had spare ribs. 4 tiny ribs not even full ones. Working out at £2 per rib!!!! My fried rice only half filled my dinner plate. AND it is £3.50 for a small gravy boat. Its all extras extras extras and they charge you a fortune! They used to bring you out a good sized basket of prawn crackers whilst you browse the menu. We got a small bowl with a total of 8 prawn crackers! They also used to put fortune cookies with bill. They have also stopped doing this. The portions are getting smaller everytime. I would dine here once or twice a month bit I cant justify it anymore!!!!!!! A response from the restaurant would be nice but im not holding my breath!!!

Super food, super staff. Excellent experience… but 10% service charge added to bill for six people and 50p a box for left overs, added £20 to the final bill….other wise 1st class.

Experience started well with great customer service but the food did not live up to it. The crispy honey chilli beef was all crisp and no beef, the crispy salted chilli chicken had soggy batter and very little flavour, salt and chilli chips were very chunky and were basically plain chips. Egg fried rice was egg fried rice. Not great for the price. Won't be ordering again, unfortunate as had heard good things and the interaction with the servers were great.

A really pleasant, calm, and quiet environment, with excellent service and truly tasty menu to choose from. Even the coffee was beautifully presented and delicious. If I lived near to this restaurant I would be sample the whole menu more quickly! We will definitely return to 'The Mandarin' in Ballyhackamore.

This restaurant is ridiculously overpriced! Food wasn't any better than every other Chinese. Came out suspiciously quickly. Portions sizes aren't great for the £15 + dish that doesn't even come with rice!! Very noisy had to shout at each other. Just far too expensive for what it is!!

Great restaurant with great staff. Had a lovely dinner here in the Mandarin Restaurant last night, food was cooked perfectly. The staff were attentive to us and lovely to talk to. Cannot wait to return to this restaurant!

I thought the place lacked atmosphere. The food was pricey and it was very bland and tasteless. The portions were a good size and the staff friendly and helpful. I won't be going back there.

Only 2 people out of our 8 enjoyed their food..Very expensive & charged for everything seperetly, staff were not overly friendly & plus 10% service charge, some of our friends could'nt finish their meals & after paying a £253 bill were still charged 50p each for a carton to take their spare food home..Would defo Not reccomend & will never be back.

Food quality is no better that your local chinese takeaway yet its nearly £20 for a meal, well over priced. They also add a 10% service charge for tables over 6 people which is hilarious as why would we pay a forced tip for bringing them more custom??

Decided to try this local far a takeaway. Full marks for the prawn toast, but then rapidly downhill. Vegetable spring rolls nicely made but very bland and unseasonal with no dipping sauce. Chow mein had no flavour, and honey chilli chicken didn't have any chilli, the chicken was dry and the sauce very runny. Altogether very disappointed and won't be back.

Sit in and the Food was out within minutes went cold to quickly was probably microwaved The chicken was cold and hard in places like bone marrow unbearable And horrible won’t be back

The mandarin city is simply the best chinese restaurant around. Salted chilli sea bass and the monkfish hot pot should not be overlooked. Family run business with really friendly staff. If your choice is Chinese food....GO!!

First visit since they refurbished and the new look is great. Staff were helpful and attentive but the food was slightly disappointing. Chicken was slightly dry (overcooked?). Definitely not as good as I've had before. Hopefully just a one off bad night

I’m a local here, been coming to this restaurant for years for take always and sit in meals , slowly but surely this place has unfortunately gone downhill it’s got so expensive and the quality of the food is awful. My husband came home tonight with a take away as per usual order was wrong, didn’t bother contacting them no point. Curry sauce was watery tasteless slop. Boiled rice freezing cold. (We live street beside restaurant). Chips are Never fully cooked hard and cold in middle and full of black /green ones. Crispy beef was so bad we could not eat it couldn’t cut it or break it down with my teeth.. chewy. Overall VERY expensive and a wast of money went into the bin unfortunately. our opinion only but I was advise ppl give it a miss.

A last minute change in plans resulted in us booking on the day for 20 people. I rang at about midday and our booking was happily taken. Later that night after our bowling and having arrived at various times due to buses out of Belfast we all settled and ordered. The staff were fantastic and the food was delicious. What a lovely way to finish off our very belated Xmas party and thank you mandarin city for hosting us. We will definitely return.

We haven't been here since before the pandemic, and a lot has changed in that time. Having read some poor reviews on here, we were unsure what to expect. We liked the modern vibe. It was Tuesday night, but there were plenty of people in to create a good atmosphere. Service from all ataff was impeccable. The flavours were all good. They lost a star because the chicken was overcooked and chewy, but we enjoyed the meal and will be back

Always an old favourite but on last visit thought it had become very expensive. However, as it was our friend’s birthday and her choice we went along. It is SO noisy! Very uncomfortable and everyone else trying to be heard so shouting! Food was good- crispy duck pancakes as good or better than remembered. I chose a prawn main which had plenty of prawns but too much onion and a bit gloopy with msg. Expensive for The quality and experience. Staff were pleasant

Good quality tasty meal. Friendly efficient service. Reasonably priced.

Dinning in is much better than take away, although this place is a little pricey! Good food, great service. Parking nearby can be troublesome especially during the day. I would not say this place is value for money but it is a good little local venue for a date night.

Myself and partner went to Mandarin City tonight - food was dreadful, I could not eat my main course- some sort of overcooked chicken, place was very noisy - impossible to hear , and staff just smiled but did nothing even though obvious to a blind person that I had eaten virtually nothing. Starter which was duck spring / didn’t look or taste like duck ! Cost £64. When asked I said main course was awful. I didn’t ask for discount and certainly none was offered. Poor is too good a description- DO NOT GO HERE - clearly no one cares in this restaurant. The customer is just a mug and the staff need some training. Lastly the chef is lousy . My partner faired slightly better - her starter was awful ( chicken again , overcooked) but her main course was edible . Do yourself a favour, give this place a miss

What on earth has happened here? It use to be great pre Brexit, now it is an expensive rip off selling revolting stomach churning 'food '. Ribs made us throw up, fried rice that has most of a bottle of oil in it and stale...

An institution in East Belfast. 14 years living in the centre of Dublin and I never found a Take Away/Restaurant that bit the mail on the head so often.

Tried last night for the first time and the food was excellent!

Food was absolutely lovely, however we pre-ordered at 3 pm for delivery between 6.00 & 7.00 however the food was delayed by 30 minutes. We have been customers of the mandarin City for quite some time and are disappointed with the service we received today.

Very disappointing. I ordered the salted chilli crispy tofu. No sauce no taste totally bland suffered it with a good sprinkling of soy-sauce to make it more palatable . The tofu was soggy and tasteless. Filled up on the prawn crackers...very poor

It is so up and down with this Chinese restaurant. Tonight's meal was terrible. Chicken was tough and there was no sauce, very dry! Rice seemed to have been re-heated and chips were disgusting. Both meals went into the bin. NEVER AGAIN!

Returned for dinner after renovations. Food was just ok. Neither of us would have said that anything stood out as special or very tasty. Average Chinese food, smaller than average portions for slightly above average prices. We won't be rushing back.

Orders last week, 2 portions of quarter crispy duck and a portion of bbq ribs in bbq sauce. Used to get this dish all the time and always loved it. Sent my son to collect. Firstly they charged £48 (disgrace) and when he came home with it to dundonald they'd given him bbq ribs with a small bit of honey dribbled over them. I rang to complain, girl gave no apology and told me to bring them down and they would add sauce. I wasn't driving back from dundonald but no apology. To charge near £50 for 2 small meals is a disgrace.....robbery. ive used manderin for years but not a chance ill be back.... far too expensive. I'm guessing new owners maybe. Wasn't even nice 😕

Amazing food and very quick delivery. I have ordered out and sat in their very welcoming restaurant. Would highly recommend the Salt'n'Chill Boneless ribs, really tasty! I will be back for sure ! 5 Stars

Tried this place after hearing some great reviews from MANY of my friends. As soon as my party arrived they were absolutely fantastic with serving us and being there for everything we needed. As a party of 23 this was amazingly handled and I was very surprised at the speed of everything! Staff were courteous and checking on our drinks and refilling our water seconds within them being empty. Our orders where taken at a great time and didn't feel rushed at all. I started with the satay skewers which where lovely although the satay sauce would've benefitted from being thicker in my opinion I found it a bit watery (this is my only critique of the entire meal) I then had chicken curry with noodles, fried rice and salted chilli chips which all was delicious especially the chips. Portion sizes where amazing and although I initially thought it was expensive upon realising the quality of service and food I feel it's great value! The prawn crackers are the best I've ever had and I had them refilled at least 6 times because everyone loved them! All in all it lived up to the hype and I'll definitely be back!

We have been eating in the mandarin for the last 15 years. Top quality food and friendly staff. Highly recommend! New refurb is superb and tastefully completed.

Improvements to the ‘old’ place impressive and long overdue. Food was top notch with equally impressive service. Will be back.
