Mama Pho in Lewisham

Pho was ok but their grilled chicken isn't as good as it used to be.. Not much flavour, needed more salad and no herbs came with it which was needed....

Delicious options throughout their whole menu! Their Pho Tai Chin had me going crazy. A super recommended option for a date dinner in this cute area of London.

Terrible service! We didn’t get our order! we ordered for sitting in and waited 40 minutes with no food. Then after reminding the waitress we were still waiting, they came to us to say they lost our order and can’t provide the starter or bun dishes we ordered and asked if we would just have three pho dishes instead. There was only a verbal apology, no offer to reimbursement for this disappointment. We had to leave frustrated and late to our next appointment!

I don’t recommend their Banh Mi Thit. The comparison between what is advertised on Uber Eats and the actual result is sad and misleading. See my photos. I gave them 3 stars- and not less- because their other items on the menu are good and I’ll go back for those. I’m, also, disappointed in the response I got from them that the reason the Banh Mi includes less food because management told the cook to not include more otherwise it becomes a sandwich. Looking at what I got, I don’t know why I should have paid for it.

Absolutely poor waited over 20mins for drinks and then my lemon ice tea did even give me the whole bottle only when I saw table next to me then the waiter pull out the remaining of my bottle from the fridge and food took almost 1 hr to come when it’s not even busy other table around us have already got their food and the only excuse was “They have a new chef” been going there for years and omg it’s has gone so down hill never again will ever go back.

Cute little Vietnamese 🇻🇳 cafe, red brick wall decorated with Vietnamese posters/ road signs. Delicious pho, flexible bowl size choice. We have ordered raw& well-done pho, and a pork pâté Bánh mi. The pho was served in a rich broth, the flat rice noddle was cooked to perfect, I had the small bowl which was a good portion for me. Bánh mi looked just average, my husband commented it was alright.

Like others have recently noted, the broth is no longer the same as before. When served, the broth was warm but not hot. Aug 2024 update: please note that this restaurant also does not even attempt to address the contents of this review for a whole year.

The best chicken pho in southeast London. Mango salad, fried chicken, fried calamari, and BBQ chicken and rice are other notables. We eat here at least once a week. Great prices too.

I been eating here over 80 times,over the years I’m sad to say that the food doesn’t taste that good anymore. For over a year after Covid reopening I used to eat at Mama pho 3 times a week and always leave 10£ tip. Moreover the place become not family friendly and they play nasty rap music while people bringing their children there. Sad to see this place going down this much…

When it is cold outside, nothing beats the warming feeling of consuming a large bowl of hot steaming meaty broth that oozes flavor. Only the bowl I had contained beautiful soft slices of raw steak that cooks in the broth a generous handful flat noodles with beansprouts and different herbs. Try it guys, you wont be disappointed.

This place is a staple, love their food. Will always come back. I've been going here for years and it's always been consistently yummy.

We had the pleasure of dining at Mama Pho during a visit to the city, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the pho. The soup was rich, flavourful, and simply delicious – a perfect balance of savoury broth, tender noodles, and fresh herbs. It’s a gem that we’ll definitely visit again on future trips to London.

Many months later and many times coming back, I'm changing my review from 4* to 5*. Much better experience now and great food! —- The time to bring out the food was not very reasonable. It seemed like the employee who brought out the starters brought a bowl of fish sauce for my noodle dish but did not explain anything further, so I was not sure if I was eating fried squid with fish sauce. After finishing eating the starters with vermicelli and spring rolls and not seeing anything additional, I guessed that the fish sauce went with the vermicelli?! We hadn't finished eating the starters when they brought out the main dish without asking or clearing the starters away. The fried squid is not rich in spices and is a little wet with oil. In the braised beef rice dish, the beef in wine sauce was not tender, maybe because I went to eat a bit early. Another point is that the shop plays Kpop music, which doesn't suit my personal taste, so the experience is a bit worse. Some of my personal suggestions, I hope the restaurant can bring delicious Vietnamese food to more people 😊 —-

Ordered pho and squid for delivery. Packaging had soaked through and the soup had spilled out into the bag rendering the £10 serving of squid inedible. For a restaurant that has ‘pho’ in the name, you’d think they’d do a better job of wrapping something for delivery. The poor driver was distraught and what we salvaged was a mess.

An incredible place. Have visited few times since moving to the area. Often busy, but the service is always second to none. You may have to wait a tiny bit, but it’s well worth it.

Flys in our food. Apologised and was kind about it but this is a review to AVOID! Didn’t finish our food and left. Disgusting. 🤢

Pho is the best in town. Have been a customer of this place for the last 10 years and have never disappointed me every visit. However, it is very pricey now and the portion has shrunk especially the pho. A similar price to the London city but in Deptford isn't justifiable IMO, hence, the 3 stars.

I came from Manchester and tried special pho here, the soup and food are tasty, recommended to visit!

Huge bowl with rice noodles and rare beef, it was good the broth have a nice flavour from roasted / slow simmered Meat and bone. Nice food. The way to the toilet it’s a Hazard if they keep the table with some china behind the door.

Mama Pho consistently delivers excellent food that's hard to fault. The menu offers a great selection. The pho is straightforward and well-executed that is packed with flavour. All portion sizes are generous, good value for the amount you pay. The prices are very fair.

Cosy place with big portions! I got the sticky tofu rice bowl and it was huge, and I didn't even get the 'large' size. Defo reccomend this place if you're hungry and it's a greta place to meet with friends and chat over some good food.

First Vietnamese restaurant tried in London, worth a try ! 😋

We are regular and loyalty customers and often order fried chicken wings. The size of the chicken wings is always the same, but tonight we got only one that was a reasonable size, and the other three were tiny. The staff explained that it was from the supplier. I want to say If the chicken wings are too small, you can give two more as compensation, and the customers will be happy. To be honest, your food has always been of high quality, please keep it up

I actually went to grab a quick pho takeaway as I have done for years but today, the quality of food was pretty bad, the shrinking portions can be excused but the prawns were almost bad, it's either overcooked or going bad . . integrating easily once mixed with the soup. Sad to see that the quality of food has gone down, as it is one of my favourite pho restaurants in London.

My favourite Vietnamese spot. Best Pho in London. The broth is unbeatable. The intimate space makes the experience feel comfortable and homely. Staff are incredible. Only weakness is their Banh Mi, in that its good but there are better ones out there. But the fact I only think their weakness is that they have a good but not great banh mi just goes to show how good this place is. 5 stars in my eyes. The best!

Definitely recommend the Com Bo Kho!!

Food was very dull. Nothing special at all. Also it was quite poorly set out - wobbly-bottomed crockery, too-big sprig of mint garnish, big leaves of unchopped lettuce which required cutting, which is tricky with chopsticks, some of the items tucked away on the plate out of sight behind the bowl of wet food on top of it, food just didn't taste or look like anything special, although perfectly edible, to be fair. No cheaper than really good place nearby with near-identical menu. It was a cold day, the heating wasn't turned on, and every time the door opened it made the seating area feel even chillier.

I'm not known for my generosity when it comes to giving a 5 star rating but at Mama Pho's I didn't have to think twice. Great food( Com ga Nuong - grilled chicken) excellent friendly staff in this picturesque corner restaurant. Can't wait till my next visit.

I used to come here before Covid, back then the food was very good and authentic. It was one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in London. We came here for lunch and I was surprised to see the place was pretty empty. It was always very packed, so busy that sometimes you had to queue outside. I ordered the grilled pork with rice, the pork was nice but the rice was very dry. My mum ordered the Bun Bo Hue. The waitress told her that they had run out of spice so the broth noodles won’t be spicy, she still ordered it. The Bun Bo Hue was awful, there was no spice, no lemongrass, the beef was not the right beef for the Bun Bo Hue. Very little broth and the broth was tasteless, my mum asked the waitress for more broth and she said the kitchen staff told her that if she wants more broth then she would have to pay extra for it!!! I have never heard of this and this place is obviously very stingy. The place was freezing, I asked the waitress to turn the air con off and to put the heating on. She said she would do it but didn’t, I then had to put my coat back on while I was eating. This is not correct and bad service, you do not leave the customers sitting freezing cold with their coats on! The waitress had her coat on too! Very weird and look unprofessional. We found out that the owner doesn’t do the cooking anymore, he hires other people to do it. Before the food was amazing when he used to do the cooking. I can see why it’s not busy as they have lost a lot of customers. The owners need to pay more attention to their business and need to hire new different kitchen staff cos the staff that were cooking our food do not know how to cook Vietnamese food. It’s a shame this place has gone downhill cos the food here used to be so good, so good that I used to recommend people to come here. We won’t be returning.

Good cheap Vietnamese food in a small cafe setup. Used to be second choice when Cafe East was too busy, but the food is now as good, a bit cheaper and still less busy then it's larger counterpart.

Used to love this place Food is great, but restraunt is freezing. i thought it was a temporary broken heating thing but been months now. Won't be back until its warm. All it needs is a space heater and a curtain on the door to stop the draft.

The most authentic south Vietnamese place in London. Amazing pho. Awesome bun. Huge portions, if you can handle them. From the long hallway to the bathroom with produce on the side, being the only white face in there, to the student staff that doesn't get all the English, this entire place feels like Viet Nam without the 12 hour flight. Go for bo bun hue. "Cam an" 🤙(with the shaking hand gesture) is thank you in Vietnamese. Order at the table, pay at the bar. Don't get long drinks with the pho.

Food was amazing! The pho was one of the best I had so far.. 2 mains for 24£ is also a great deal! They offer medium and large portions of pho.. the medium is 12£ and is abundant and delicious. The large one is definitely for sharing! It’s huge!! I recommend coming for the phos and sharing a couple of them on a cold day. Tiny restaurant with few seats but a great service and really efficient. Many people work in the kitchen, highlighting the food is authentic and well prepared. Only negative note for me was the music.. it would have been nice to either have something more carefully selected.

Very good, authentic Vietnamese food. Basic menu but interesting dishes.

The Beef Pho was average. The Ban Mi was a huge disappointment, the meat was paper thin and almost non existent. One of the waitresses was also very rude and surly, just putting the dishes down on the table randomly without asking whose order it was. Overall a bad experience, will not be returning and will not be recommending to anyone. Save your money find other places to eat.

I would highly recommend this Vietnamese restaurant. The food is amazing, good value for money and the staff are friendly. The only issue is that it can be hard to find parking and the space in the restaurant is quite small and cramped.

There are not many vegetarian options, but the few dishes on offer are very good and come in large portions. It is quite popular so you may have to queue and there is limited seating.

I ordered food of this cafe on Uber eats and after almost one hour the food is still preparing. I call the store and asked what happened and they said it is the delivery person’s fault and promised me that I will get my food in 5 minutes. Guess what? I did not get the food later, so I called them again and they told me the food is still preparing. I asked them to cancel the order and they agreed. But the restaurant still charged me for preparing food.

Stumbled upon this place quite randomly but yeh, really good and fresh. Seated promptly, served with a smile. For starters we had the spring rolls and tofu rolls. The dipping sauce with the tofu rolls was well nice. For mains I had the flash fried tofu with noodles. Usually I don't like tofu because it isn't seasoned enough. But yeah wasn't the case, these were packed with flavour. One of my mates had the Vietnamese Coffee and said it was good. Thanks!

This is my second visit and the food is still amazing! The staff are very helpful, not pushy and not in a rush for their customer to leave. Whilst I was waiting, the waiting staff just left a glass of tap water without asking whereas other restaurants will always wait for you to order and always bottled water to generate extra income! Must visit!

The soup was cold, it had leaked into the bag and the delivery man gave it here anyway. ridiculous and stupid! I do not recommend it to anyone!

Cute little Vietnamese restaurant near Surrey Quays. All phos come in two sizes and the person of a small one (picture) is already enough.

I liked this place I went back again because the food is really good, but I was not happy because the server gave us a salad which I didn’t order, I told her I didn’t order this item and she said it came with one of the dishes I ordered. I was then approached 20 minutes into eating my food to inform me that they had given it to me and I would be charged ( I said I wasn’t paying for it). Also the Bahn mi was not a bahn mi at all. It had barely any filling and a very hard, dry roll not worth £8! Not sure if I’d go again, maybe find a different Vietnamese next time.

Mama Pho used to be the best around. Now the prices have gone up and whilst the food quality is still ok the portions are tiny. A £12 pork rice box comes with a small amount of rice and about 5 small bits of pork. Nam Nam down the road is £9.95 for better food and almost twice as much. Also the service is very odd

Entered the restaurant at 9:51PM. And we’re met with a waiter telling us that last order is at 9:45pm and they could not accommodate us. This was upsetting as their own website states 10:30pm closing and 10pm on google and 10:30pm here as well on TripAdvisor. Rather unprofessional and unapologetic staff. Please update your operating hours.

I'm a regular regular ( I'm there 3 times a week ) but I am not a fan of the recent prices raise for the exact same food. The workers are always very lovely and I tip on a regular basis but not sure now because of the raise. There's no loyalty card, no wifi and no plugs. Food is always good tho and it's a very nice places to eat out !

Authentic Viet food, but they really need to up the cleanliness game. Ordered 4 times, and all 4 times the spring onions were not cleared properly and had dirt in it (thereby contaminating the entire noodle soup). Obviously gives you an upset stomach as well. Shame.

Terrible, my chicken curry was bland and served with the chicken skin, no tap water offered, then when I wanted to take the rest home with me they wanted to charge me for a takeaway box, never in my life I have ever had to pay for a takeaway box, won’t be returning

We are regular customers. At first really enjoyed the food and the experience. However, after a good few visits, we noticed that the portions were becoming smaller and often times garnish was missing (for pho soup), were only given when asked for it. Last visit was disappointing.

Fan of Pho? This is THE place to have some. The dishes are beautifully fresh and oh so tasty. At peak times there can be a queue outside but the wait doesn't tend to be long. If you're in the area then get to Cafe Mama Pho and you won't be disappointed.

Good pho broth… original. We tried the garlic chicken wings… they were good. I would recommend the vege spring rolls. Yum. Price wise… 👍🏻 consider it is in South Kensington. Will go again.

A small quaint Vietnamese restaurant and very packed for an Easter Monday! Can’t tell whether the food is authentic or not but it was decent. The Bun Cha had a good portion of pork and was flavorful but the spring rolls weren’t our fav and the Banh Xeo was lacking seasoning - other than that it was good!

Nice place! Far better than cafe east. Not stable in quality but the worst is better than cafe east no matter in pho or starter.

Love the BUN CHA GIO THIT NUONG. Nice and friendly atmospher Update 2023 Went there Partner and I we have to eat in jackets on as there was no heating switched on. Prices are up but quality down.

We haven't been since after the refurbishments... Food is still authentic and taste good but the portions are questionable as I ordered a large pho but it feels the food quantity is the same as regular but the bowl is just bigger! Staff is ok and interior is more with the times now. They also got us a high chair for our youngest. The normal seating also has a very clever storage bit under the padding.

Great food and good value. Yummy fish sauce chicken wings, great Bun Cha and serious bun Bo hue. The large really is LARGE - so bear that in mind when ordering.

For a change of scenery, I tried this restaurant and had the chicken. They were so nice, I could eat them every day and the noodle soup was good
