Magno Cafe Restaurant in Shetland Islands

Having eaten out all week we wanted somewhere with a 'less fancy' menu. This had lots of different simple foods to choose from, a huge menu in fact. Jacket potatoes, chilli and rice, shephards pie. Perfect. We did book, but it wasn't necessary as it happens.

Excellent menu - significant choice for a remote isle. Soup is first class. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Wow what a find. The monkfish scampi and hand cut chips was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Staff were friendly helpful and attentive. Highly recommend eating here!

Went at 7 oclock to get curly fries and a pizza. NO curly fries so settled for regular fries instead. Received the order and both boxes of fries were filled barely half way with poor quality fries like the ones you microwave. Pizza was very tasty and not to fault. Everything else ive tried was very good. I still recommend.

Service was good and the food was cooked brilliant.

We were very happy to found this place when nowhere else had availability. We enjoyed the meal and service so well we booked another night. Delicious hot comfort food at a reasonable price. We had the lasagna and tagliatelle.

Cafe atmosphere but quick service and good portions of tasty food from a fairly wide menu. Was busy when we visited but service still slick. All good.

If there was literally anywhere else on Shetland you could buy a pizza this place would be out of business. The food is fine, standard diner grub. The staff seem to have a very high turnover except for the couple familiar faces (the middle aged blonde woman who doesn't believe in personal space and the young polish guy who seems the friendliest of the bunch) I have yet to experience a single mistake-free order (be it sit-in or takeaway) but if the manager is around when they make their copious mistakes you normally get a free juice out of it. I would recommend if you get a takeaway, ask for it by explaining your order instead of giving the name you gave with the order - they never se to get the names right no matter who takes the order but it always opens a doorway for the older staff to blame the polish guy and honestly the last thing you need when you're picking up an order of fries and pizza (that they never have ready on time and yet still is cold by the time it's passed to you) is a side dish of xenophobia.

Went for a donner kebab with salad and “magnos” flatbread. 90% of the donner meat was dry,burnt and crispy. The meat was just heaved on top of the flat bread and in the corner of the box the most sorry looking salad I’ve seen! Thankfully there was very little of it. It was very much a do it yourself kebab, I had to cut the flat bread pack with meat and the sorry salad and look for the non existent sauce it was meant to come with. £12.00 for the privilege as well! The harbour chippy a 5 min walk from magnos had miles better kebabs.

We have always had decent food here. It's nothing spectacular, but our whole family (adults and kids) can find something they like on the menu every time.

Great place for an excellent pizza1 THE DOUGH IS REALLY TASTY AND THE THE LARGE CHOICE OF TOPPINGS ARE VERY GENEROUS. OTHER MELAS ON THE MENUE LOOKED INTERESTING, BUT WENT FOR THE PIZZA...GOOD CHOICE-best in a long time. STAFF ARE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL,WOULD DEFINATELY GO AGAIN AND RECOMMEND.

Excellent Food Excellent Service and at a reasonable price

We were here twice while in Shetland, both meals were good, closed on a Tuesday.

Great pizza and da folk working dere was nice tae chat tae.

Hmmm, this time I didnt like the food. My special Thai fish cakes (which cost me £8.5) was VERY GREASY and awful chewy. It was so greasy that when i tried to cut it and put a fork on top of fish cake..the fish cake sprayed my clothes with oil :( Fish and chips was not great either, chips were same greasy. I not sure that my thai fish cakes was actually freshly cooked as it was very chewy and had no much taste..only taste I feel was oil. Americana pizza was good..but! Margherita pizza for my daugher had no much on top and cheese was mainly in center when all around was only tomato sause :( so child didnt like it. Also..I couldnt understand why when my boy ordered a pizza from kids menu (which together with juice and chips must cost £7)..we been charged more and for a pizza only. So this time we had not a great food and charged more than i would expect for such a meal.

A great selection of food in a friendly atmosphere

Nice food, not as busy as the cafés on the main street, but still very popular.

The enormous menu should have been a warning, The food was lukewarm and almost inedible. Hand-cooked chips were uncooked wedges.

The omelette was over cooked and more in the style of a crustless quiche. The side of coleslaw had too much mayo and cabbage was cut in big chunky pieces. The sweet potato fries were really good, crunchy perfect.

From the moment we walked in we were well looked after. The food was delicious! Fresh and I'd highly recommend visiting. From the owner who informed us he was from the Scottish borders not too far from us to how he ended up in Shetland to his wonderful staff we really felt well looked after. We really were shocked when we got the bill and how little it cost us both. We ask the girl assisting us to add another £5.00 to the bill. If we were here longer we would most definitely be back before leaving. We will be back though when next in Shetland. Ps also now trying to convince my mum to make me a sunflower quilt like the one hanging in the restaurant. The owners sister made it. Do go, you won't be dissapointed. Thanks so much.

Nice atmosphere very good service good food for fair price

I can't speak highly enough of here, the Pizza's are exceptional as is the rest of the menu. We had a large family takeout and phoned ahead, it was all ready on time and piping hot, really friendly people too. I've used it three times on my holiday and my 17 and 13 year old would have eaten here every day. Highly recommend.

I visited here and had the Thai loaded fries.. Excellent quality.. One of the best loaded fries I have had and excellent friendly service.

A wide range of dishes available. The food was delicious and well presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Ronan is honestly one of the best waiter I have ever had. His build is perfect for a waiter and has a lot of experience in talking to people. Ordered a pizza with pepperoni and I got a cheese pizza instead. I reported the problem to him and he instantly busted into the case. He replaced the pizza and I got my pepperoni back!!!! Lovely little lad, will defo comeback next time. His outfit was a bit too much but overall lovely place. Xoxoxox From Angela White

Hi All, I have had a few dishes from this restaurant (pizza, fish & chips, loaded fries, milk shake and special donner kebab), within these two weeks because I am totally new to Shetland. I really regret my decision and I would never recommend it to anyone. I am happy to give them more stars if they had ever tried to put more effort in preparing their food but all my experiences in this place was depressing. My opinions for the restaurant to move forward: 1. Always put the customers' needs first and offer customisation of ingredients as per the customers' desires. 2. Offer more services and add on products to the customer and it should be worth the value. 3. Please don't chat and argue with the customer unnecessarily. Accept all the negative criticisms with an open heart rather than preparing counter words and changing the atmosphere of the restaurant. 4. Please don't carry the "age-old" attitude that you will still carry on with the business for a 100 years since, none are there to challenge you in this field of fast food chain. 5. Everything is awful (atmosphere, hygiene, service, food, price, services and attitude of staff members)about this place and I still don't know why the people of Shetland are keeping up with such an organisation. I can surely confirm that if you keep on going with this unchanging attitude and behaviour, other companies will overtake this field of business and progress. Kind regards, Unhappy customer

The food is AMAZING but we waited around an hour for our food and it wasn't that busy. Cannot fault the food though so if you have the time to wait it is worth it.

Very quiet and friendly staff, didnt seem to mind us having the tablet playing a film for the kids. Pizza and mac and cheese are very nice and would recommend them. Atmosphere maybe abit more decorations up for this time of the year but overall a very enjoyable experience.

Being in Shetland for a week we've eaten dinner here twice and every plate was cleared. Fantastic food, great service, friendly staff, clean and tidy restaurant don't think we waited any longer than 20-25 mins for food. The ice-cream here is also great lots of flavours to choose from. I would 100% recommend this place

Really the worst meal I have ever had , had mgno burger. dry stale bun, burger meat dry and no flavour, onion rings probably spent 30 seconds in fryer pale raw and soggy. Coleslaw looked and tasted like it had been left out all day . Sweet potato chips tasted off. Would rather eat out of bin.

We went as it seemed to be about the only place serving food on a Sunday. Was really busy, but they saved us a table. Ordered two burgers and chips. The service was great, very friendly, The food was really, really nice and the price ok. Would highly recommend. Only problem is that we're not local to work our way through the menu

Very good food and great value for money

The food is tasty, i recommend the soup of the day. Pizza and kebab also very good. Service nice and fast. A place worth recommending.

Looks very basic from the outside, we weren't even sure it was open but it's very nice on the inside. Food was very good, spicy chicken quesadilla is lovely. Very good service and staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed it very much and went back for dinner a different day. Ice cream is delicious and much cheaper than other shops on Lerwick.

Magno burger was cracking, decent latte too.

I didn't eat here because I'm new and didn't know it was open on a Sunday but it is. I just had a cup of tea but it looks like you can get a good dinner. Friendly and efficient looking.

We called in for lunch and had Beer Battered Haddock w. handcut chips and a Fresh Monkfish 'Scampi' with handcut chips. Don't be put off by the dark colour of the chips and batter... the fish and monkfish were done to perfection. It was juicy, plump and so fresh 👌 We shared a red velvet cake with cream and banana icecream for dessert 🍨. Perfect. The service was excellent also.

We three found this restaurant along the end of the high street. Looks good outside, bit basic inside. My 12" Pizza was really good but my wife and her sister were not over-impressed by their meals. Friendly service was most welcome.

Dobre jedzenie i umiarkowane ceny. Personel przyjazny, szybka obsługa, sporo miejsca a duże okna dają wrażenie większej przestrzeni, wystrój mógłby być trochę odświeżony (trochę przypomina stare europejskie bary przy dworcach autobusowych) ale kiedy jesteś głodny to jest to najmniejszy problem 😉

Hangulatos kávézó 10-12 asztallal , 2 - 4 - 6 személyeknek. Barátságos személyzet, finom kávé, normál árak.

Ordered a 12" pizza with prawns, tuna and anchovies and with the price exceeding any other pizza on offer (even the 14" pizzas), expected it to be great. Wrong again. Totally overloaded with anchovies which made every slice harder to eat, the prawns were just thrown in the middle and there was hardly a taste of tuna. The cheese was poorly added too, or maybe it was the salt from the anchovies that masked the taste. Obviously no pride in their work. Won't be back.

Should maybe consider that disabled people may not want to watch themselves using the toilet in the mirror directly opposite. And also that some disabled people are not in wheelchairs so positioning mirror at a height where both seated and standing people could see themselves fully. I understand that putting it on the tiled part of the wall makes sense, because it would be awkward half on tile, half on the wall. Perhaps you could try it on the back of the door? I had the Mac n cheese and it was delicious, big size portion. My partner had the cheese burger. He enjoyed it and it almost satisfied his big American style burger craving. Staff were lovely, polite , clean and tidy. Overall a nice lunch. Stars would be higher if the mirror situation got fixed.

Good menu, fair price, good portions and well staffed and clean. A place to take kids for a treat. Takeaway and ice-cream and hot drink walk in service. Didn't enjoy my meal too much, burger too dense but that is personal choice.

Used to love this place even though they would often get the orders wrong. Until the wife found a shard of metal in her soup. Was still charged for it. No apology or anything. We won't be back!

Kids liked their ice cream and milkshakes, nice coffee. Dropped a star and we had to wait a while to order but don't be put off.

It was very busy so service was slow, understandable. Was asked to move to a smaller table as a party of four came in. Not a problem. Waited a very long time and the people who came in after us had there order taken first. Had to ask for our drinks as we'd been forgotten. Finally got our order taken , then I was told there was no soup , fair enough it was busy, no baked tatties , finally ordered a cheese omelette, waiter came back and asked me if it was a vegetarian omelette , I said it was cheese. He then came back and told me they had my soup. I was most of the way through it when I found a bit of metal in my soup , was very disappointed with the customer service, no real apology and was actually charged full price. Won't be going back. I could have broken a tooth . Incredibly disappointed .
