Da Harbour Chippy in Shetland Islands

Bought Fish Supper 3 times over 1 year because of working nearby and visiting Shetland. I've tried a couple of others but this is the best and every time I've tried somewhere else I regretted not buying here. On one occasion, I ditched the Fish from another place and came here. It will always be the place I go in future.

Chips were small not a proper full chip in the whole bag the fish was good tho tasty but the batter let it down unfortunately soft & rubbery no crunch or taste. At £12 for a fish supper it definitely wasn't worth it

the boy with the very bad fluffy hair served a very poor portion of chippy chips, he took an age to cook these stale chips (if you can even call them that!) very poor quality of service of the boys part as well as never leaving his hair alone. josh the other boy working was miles better at serving and had far better manners

Good food, friendly staff, nice and clean, got what I wanted and not long to wait

Staff and atmosphere pleasant. The food was nice I had Battered haddock supper with a smoked sausage and a curry sauce. Very tasty, my only moan and it’s more my taste and opinion is that the curry sauce was too thick like a paste (still tasty) and the batter on the fish was too dense. The fish was lovely

Worst experience in any food establishment ever. I waited 10 minutes for the chips to cook, while they sold the food I ordered to someone else without realising. Then I got home to find the chips were freezing cold and I didn't get all of my order either. I'm baffled why the chips were so cold as everything else was in the box the whole time I was there, they even apologised for the delay while they were "cooking". Someone needs to teach them how to cook chips and to let the customer finish their order before jumping in half way through with the bill, making me forget what I was wanting. The whole experience was so nuts, I even questioned if it could have been me who'd lost the plot for a minute. I genuinely think they didn't have a clue what they were doing. They must have been trying to reheat cooked chips in cold oil?

Where to start . Thought I would treat myself while on the island . Chips were nice . Onion rings were Luke warm . Chicken pakora like rubber . Greasy tasteless fish in soggy thick batter . Defo not worth the £16 I spent . Wont be back . Disapointed.

Had the loaded chili fries a few days ago. What was that?? That’s definitely not chili!! Most disgusting mixture I’ve ever eaten!

My second chippy in the Shetlands trip. Kept waiting without eye contact for a while. Opted for a haggis and chips. There seemed to be a slight lag between getting the order and getting the food out even though it was ready. Not much space to stand in whilst waiting either. Everyone seemed friendly enough and the place was a massive hit with the locals judging by the queue building up behind. The chips were slightly crispy, whiter and the flavour seemed different but these things are all a matter of taste. Ok price. Haggis was on the money and with salt and vinegar and a pickled egg they hit the spot. Good location. Plenty of space to sit outside and lots of benches on the harbour front if not.

Chips are horrible… far too greasy. Maybe it was just a result of the cruise ship that was in port. Would try again.

I ate Scottish pie there. Really delicious. And haggis. The fish was very tasty. You can also sit outside and eat. Tastes really good.

This used to be a really good chippy. What on earth has happened.? Kids serving behind the counter, badly cooked small portions of chips....and was charged £5 for them. Yes that's right a fiver. Mistake me for a tourist did they? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Tried getting a order for my sick 78 year old father. Utter refusal to deliver to him. He now will go without food tonight. Not good at all.

We visited a few times while visiting The Shetlands this week when we sailed into Lerwick on our boat. We couldn’t have asked for better, more friendly, or more helpful service …& AND the VERY best freshly cooked fish, pies & chips! They even sold us some of their frozen food items to take away to stock the fridge onboard our boat.

Been waiting to try a decent bag of chips whilst staying on the island. Went in at 12.30pm today, to an empty shop. Asked for a portion chips, was asked ' what size?', to which I replied ' oh, you know, normal'. Young lady served me promptly, whilst male around 20 years of age took my ten pounds, swiftly giving me five pounds change in return. By this time girl had handed me the chips, wrapped in paper. And whilst I should of queried the amount charged, I left the shop to share my chips with partner outside. Sat on bench with partner, to open what I could honestly say was a shallow cardboard tray, containing a handful of chips. To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement! And to say the chips were on par would be an exaggeration! They were leathery and certainly had stood for a while, with a hint of vinegar and a grain of salt added and to be honest I was too embarrassed to tell my partner the price, not feeling comfortable sharing this tripe with her. The only gain was to feed the birds with them and put it down as one place to avoid. Additionally, to the owner of the shop, I would also consider the staffs 5 finger discount ,as I am damn sure nothing went through the till. Now if this is the first impression the cruise ships get of Shetland , then I seriously doubt they would want to part with their money anywhere else after being ripped off here. Shame on you!

Unorganised chaos!!! Staff totally disorganised, constantly repeating your order. Haggis supper was totally overcooked, left under heat for too long, dry and tasteless, went in the bin. Curry sauce was lumpy and disgusting, unless management change the staff and quality of the food, we won't return, it's a shame as it's a great location.

We came ashore off the Jewel of the Seas and the captain onboard had said that we must try fish and chips in Shetlands and there were several good ones. So we selected here. There was a staff member female about 20 and she was rude to customers and a male in his late 50/early 60s who was maybe the owner and he screamed at people not to stand in the doorway and it was belting with rain. Coming from Australia we were shocked at how greasy it was as well as the demeanour of the staff who seemed overwhelmed - whereas they should have been happy and grateful for such a thriving business opportunity. My advice is sell and chase your dreams elsewhere.

No management of staff. Took so long to get food. They didn’t have many things on the menu. I got given an old bun and cold grated cheese on chips. No value for money. One the worst experiences and meals I have ever had.

Basically a child's portion of fish and chips touted as "Supper", wasn't particularly fresh either (it being situated on a harbour you would expect better).

Best chippy by far, chips were tasty and just how you want it, smoked sausage was good too, would definitely come back and recommend to others

Don't bother. They just serve soggy, greasy fish n chips to cruise ship passengers, knowing they'll never be back anyway. No pride in what they do. I took mine back and the guy glared at me and said "that's just how it is pal!"

This was the best fish and chips we have had on our trip. The food was so tasty and very fresh. The family working was very kind and helpful. The portions were generous and the price was very reasonable. We had a smaller portion in Edinburgh that was £5 more and not as flavorful.

We are on a cruise really wasn't hungry It was raining so we had a snack of chips to share. They were yummy, flavour took me back to my childhood days in Australia Thank you!

Very small portions and very surprised at the cost! There are no sizes (small/med/large) so this is what I got when I asked for a large fish and chips

Very friendly and helpful. Food is exactly what you are expecting. Fresh and hot. Can highly recommend the fish and chips!

We wanted some authentic fish and chips during our visit to Lerwick, Shetland, and we got it! Right down to the mushy peas 🫛 Our fish even came wrapped in paper, we loved the authentic feel it gave us. The staff were very friendly and accommodating during the lunch tourist rush!

We have been to all the chippys in Shetland and find this to be the best. Beautiful chips and fish the curry sauce just hits the spot and its a good portion too.

Food is half decent but usually sitting for a while, manager is extremely rude and seems to enjoy harassing and swearing at local teenagers in the square. Other staff seem quite rude as well.

The worse fish and chips we have ever had. The chips were soggy and not cooked properly, a had a tad of fish with my batter. If I wanted mash chips with batter I would have ordered it. Went to Frankie’s at Brae, maybe you should learn how they cook fish and chips.

It's a takeaway chippy so the atmosphere doesn't really count here. The fish supper was really good though. I'd definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

On our recent visit to see family in Shetland, we decided on a chippy dinner and went to Da Harbour chippy. After reading reports about various places ramping up prices and shrinking portion sizes for the tall ships, we hoped that things would be back to normal, It seems not! Portion of chips was not enough for our 3 year old, he ended up having half of one of ours as well, and he's big a big eater. The batter on the haggis and fish was soggy and undercooked and not appetising at all. But the cherry on the cake was the charge of 80p per chicken nuggets,so a portion of 8 was £6.40, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask. On our travels home, we stopped in Washington to see family and got 7 nuggets for £3 in their local chippy, how can you warrant this extortionate cost to your customers? They were struggling with the number of customers as they had a queue out of the door, that would normally be the sign of the place to go, but in this case, definitely not. On our next visit we will not be going back there, very poor in all areas.

Visited for lunch during the tall ships, I was on duty with the Coastguard so was wearing Hiviz, I joined the Queue and waited my time ,when I got to the counter I was asked what I wanted "two small chips" the guy behind the counter said to me you didn't "effing" queue up I replied yes I did to which he replied people like you make me sick. Will never use da harbour chippy again .

Chips were fantastic. Didn't have the fish so can't comment. Had a fried black pudding which wasn't quite hot enough for my liking.

Da Harbour Chippy, 7 Harrison Square, Esplanade, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0LL. Stopped here for a quick snack of a bag of chips.  Chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and not greasy.  There was an unusual taste from the chips which I think was the oil used. Not that it was off putting as they tasted good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Just watch out for the seagulls if you sit outside :)

Absolutely Awful! So rude, very unpleasant, not 1 manner between the two of them, I was stared at! NO PLEASE or THANK YOU or GOODBYE. And I'm local, poor tourists!!! I can only imagine what they think!!!

The person who severed us was very short and could do with going on a customer care course. My pie was cold, chips were OK, and portion size was about right. I would look for somewhere else if you looking for an overall experience and warm food.

Fish and chips is a must have order but it was not the best I have had. Taste ways, great but a little doughy batter. Chips were good too so overall it was fine but for the price they charge you expect high quality food. Staff were nice when serving us.

So the grub is not good. I got leftover kebab probably from the day before. Chicken nuggets rock hard and dry as. The staff are nice, trying their best. Don't sell rubbish and you will prosper.

You can't eat in but there are shelters outside. The fish is not cooked to order so the batter was not crispy. However the fish was good. A good portion of chips but a small fish portion.

Our first meal in Shetland and whilst more about convenience it was tasty and good value. the staff were mostly young and unable to answer questions about some of the cooking but we felt the food was good. Outside seating also available.

Absolutely would not recommend . Tourist trap. Quite easily the Worst fish and chips I’ve ever eaten in my life and awfully overpriced too . Not fresh at all and the chips were soggy. Lousy service too , the staff were very grumpy and didn’t look like they wanna be there at all.

It was the last day of my holiday when I sent to the Harbour Chippy, although the shop itself is not wheelchair accessible one of the young ladies who was working there came and took my order from the doorway. Very soon I had my fish and chips which I ate at one of the tables provided outside. The food was excellent. If you want a traditional fish and chip meal look no further than Da Harbour Chippy.

THATS THE WORST TAKE AWAY I EXPERIENCED SO FAR IN MY LIFE. Visit there left a scar on our otherwise so nice holidays in Shetlands where we met so many nice and helpful people. The older lady there is extremely unpleasant if not rude, kebab had to be pretty old as it upsets my and my companion stomach . Tables outside dirty, No forks , no tissues with dish and when I asked for salad she almost shout " Its a Fish and Chips ! we dont do salad !" Thats for sure my last visit there , DONT EVEN TRY, disappointment guaranteed. This place is really bad guys.

Overpriced for the quantity of food. Although cooked fresh enough.Pity staff were not the friendliest,you would think that customers were just an inconvenience. Certainly just a one off visit.You would think in it's prime location, a better overall experience could be had.

It's been a while since I bought from here but I wanted to have the kebab meat and chips I'd had a year or two ago. I wasn't sure if they still did the kebab meat and couldn't see it in the heating shelves so instead of waiting 10-15mins before reaching the serving counter and finding out they didn't I tried to politely ask the male(non-Shetland) owner who was doing the cooking. I got as far as a polite "excuse me" before I was rebutted with an extremely rude response and a quick point towards the serving counter. I stood there mildly shocked before saying to him that I was simply trying to ask if the still served kebab meat whereupon all I got back was a "yes". I was so disgusted I decided there and then that he wasn't getting any money from me so just left and went to the Forth Chip Shop which is miles better anyway. As a side note, I did notice that they had very, very little food cooked and ready to serve. It seemed to be that you placed your order and then they cook it because most people in there were already standing to the side waiting for their order.

Lost my card and moved a bench to look under it, owner shouted and cursed at me and my friend, made a comment about my weight and a snarky comment about my friends mother and told me i was barred for life, got in my face and acted very threatening food is greasy and overpriced.

Good menu and friendly staff. Very clean modern and accessible for everyone and would recommend.

The staff didn't seem too happy about us coming in a quarter of an hour before closing time, but this is a take away, not a restaurant! That should have been our first clue... The food was just bad: the filet of haddock was tiny and it's batter soggy. The chips had the same consistency inside and out and the amount of salt on them could have lastet me for a month. My mates haggis pie was at the same time dry and soggy. Don't eat here!!!

Under cooked chips, tough haggis, lumpy gravy, avoid!

Overcooked fish. Dry and unappetising. My dog enjoyed it though! Maybe just a hiccup considering other reviews!

Right on the harbour front. There are sheltered booths where you can eat your fish and chips al fresco. Excellent fish & chips, but the seagulls think so too and you have to watch them!

Excellent chips, but batter a bit on the hard side for me. Excellent quick and friendly service. We also had ice cream on another visit. Again excellent.

Friendly staff,great food at great prices

Well, how can you go to the shore and not have fish and chips. Everyone has a personal preference of how they like theirs. We prefer no sauce and crispy batter at home. We didn't get either. Batter was soft and they covered the chips in sauce. To our surprise they tasted delicious....goes to show..."when in Rome"....

After my horrific experience at the happy haddock this place really cheered me up. An excellent Fish supper and all involved should give themselves a pat on the back or a socially distanced hand shake. All fish deserve nothing more than to be de scaled, cut up, soaked in batter then dumped in boiling oil and these guys do it right.

Hell of a good chippy. Great selection of food and well cooked. Mozzarella sticks are fantastic and so is he haggis. Kebabs are very tasty.

Best freshly caught fish and chips I've had in a long time. Even the local seagulls go there for some.

It was early afternoon, and I had a craving for chips, but not a mountain of them. I got a small portion at an acceptable price. They were hot and crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, just how chips should be.

when visiting lerwick for the first time i was looking for somewhere for a quick bit to eat and i was not too disappointed , i never went anywhere else , fantastic chips and reasonably priced

Just wanted a very basic chippy lunch while passing through, top marks! 👍 Even the seagull wanted a chip, but I don't share food, so he left me to it 😂

We have been there for a meal tonight and we can't complain. The food was Piping hot and tasted fantastic. The service was great and we only had to wait 5 minutes for the freshest products to be ready. There was a wide selection of juice available and condiments was a option to Over all I cant recommend this place enough tonight perfect food perfect customer-service and excellent portion sizes. We will be back again thank you

We had fish n chips from here our first night in Shetland. I was shocked at the price of the fish as it’s £2 more than where we live but maybe it’s not expensive for Shetland? There wasn’t loads of chips and the fish wasn’t...

Still a grubby place. Needs a major refit.

Friendly service and excellent fish and chips by the harbour. They have seats outside where you can eat your takeaway if you want.

Stopped here for chips before getting back on our cruise ship. Had a cone of chips which cost £1.20; a tray would have cost £1.60. Chairs and tables outside for customer use. Friendly service.

Very busy which was a good sign. Both my wife and I had a "Haggis Supper" and it was fresh, not greasy and a joy to eat. Nice staff.

Very overpriced for the portion size.. nearly £3 for a very small tray of chips....no curry sauce or gravy left ...shame no other chip shops were open...

Never had such a bad experience with fish and chips, could not finish my meal, the Doener meat was awfull, hoping I won't get food poisoning. Do yourself a favour and visit the other store in town

Our friends visited Lerwick, and had great fish and chips before going to Lerwick Brewery. We ate outside, and they were delicious.. Lots of food so you may only need to order for one person. There will plenty for two people. Enjoy!

Just an average chippy, average tasting food but a little overpriced. Plenty of outdoor seating available.
