Truly the best grilled cheese, or toasties, I have ever eaten!!! So good!! The bread was crusty, and the cheese!! Crispy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. It doesn’t get any better for comfort food!! Our group tried the #1 & #3; all amazing. Get the pickles. The jalapeños aren’t very spicy, though I’d have been happy if they were. The kids had the kids sandwich and they also were very pleased. LOVE this place!! The market is fantastic as well. So many yummy things available to make your next meal very special. I wish I lived next door!

I rate these cheese toasties as the best you will get anywhere. Only the tastiest cheeses are used...tangy and salty...in fresh sourdough bread and served with a portion of hot spicy pickles. There is a great selection of mostly Irish cheeses to peruse while waiting for your toastie to be made.

My wife and I have been regular goers to Maegden since it was the wee caravan next to the Giants Causeway. We travel down from Belfast at least once a month for a grilled cheese and bonfire hot chocolate! Now it is in Bushmill's it's even better - providing seating and selling local produce from across the Island. The girls who run it are absolute Angel's and so, so friendly and talkative. Impossible to describe to folk just how good a "toastie" can be, but trust me, it's well worth the hours travel and paying a few quid. Their bonfire hot chocolate isn't overly sweet nor does it have that artificial taste you would get from the likes of Costa/Starbucks. The marshmallow fluff they use on top is made by themselves and torched perfectly. It's 09.40am and my belly is now rumbling for a Maegden!!!! Side note: their candied jalepenos are to die for! An absolute 10/10 - I recommend it to everyone!

I go regularly as I live 5 minutes away, my go too in the town for coffee and always get a friendly chat. I often go alone and just chill with a coffee and pick up breadsticks + ALL the cheese. I haven't had a toastie yet as I like to go in the morning or late afternoon so just not timed it correctly however everyone raves about them locally. a must go!

Shades of the late lamented Dean & Deluca here! Finally, a proper, delicious deli where we can get real quality and unusual "food to go" in my favourite place. I practically cried with joy when I realised how good this little emporium was! On my first foray I bought a little cheese "for home" - first rate. Then 3 weeks back a friend and I bought a selection of bread, cheese, olives and pastries to carry back to base as a lunch. The yuminess of our DIY picnic was superb and when comparing it to what we would have got (and spent) elsewhere in town for an average sit down lunch we actually chuckled. Last week, I took a group of my more discriminating relatives from afar, to pick up some of the famous toasted sandwiches with tea, buns and a bar of chocolate for a brunch. Oh.... my.... word! We felt like we were dining like kings. Blue skies, munching away on the banks of the Bush - it didn't get much better. Picture buttery, crunchy sourdough slices, cut generously thick and packed with hot oozing melted cheese. Flavour! They were accompanied by little pots of fresh pickled pear slices or fennel. Now THAT sweet and salty combo is genius ladies. I can see this place causing gridlock come summer. Yep it's THAT good. If you're a foodie this is the top place to visit on the north coast for my money. I feel I've barely scratched the surface here and might have to return for more er research soon (so many cheeses so little time). Just delighted to have quality in such a beautiful spot. I wish we'd taken photos but we were too busy scoffing the stuff!!! Ps Could I beg the girls to do a "squeaky cheese with avocado and sweet chilli sauce" too please? That would push it from 10 to 11/10!

Hide away near Giant’s Causeway. Looking for a great sandwich, we tried the original grilled cheese. Mine had chorizo, my husband had ham on them. Pickles on the side we great. This is an amazing sandwich. We regret that we didn’t try the coconut macaroon until we were on the road, because we would have bought 5 more. Amazing!

I just submitted this shop as a place because TA only had the food truck listed, but you should realize they have a great cheese shop - that is also serving up 5 amazing toasted cheese sandwiches in the store - right on main street in Bushmills. Walk in to the most amazing cheese smells. Order a toasted cheese, and get one of the most unique - but still completely comforting- sandwiches you could imagine. For real cheese lovers; they’re a lot more complex than cheddar on white bread! The shop looks great as well, but unfortunately I was here with just a carry on. They’re open something like Wed-Sun, ~noon-5pm. Can’t remember exactly, but you’re boned on Mon and Tue. Have a medium sized lunch or a second lunch. This place can’t be beat for lovers of Toasted Cheese!

I know a lot of people will complain about the price but to be honest the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. Yes you could get a cheese toastie for £4 in any coffee shop but this is so much more than a basic toastie. My husband had the meat one which was packed with nduja and he added chorizo. This came with spicy mayo and jalapeño pickle. The sour dough bread was thickly sliced and grilled to perfection. I had the blue cheese mix with added salami and a side of kimchi. Yes it was £16 for 2 toasted sandwiches but the flavour was mouth watering and we were stuffed after. Packed full of flavour this place is definitely worth a visit for lunch but get there early as the queue was pretty long as we were leaving.

At most this is a one time novelty visit. It is very over priced which is what puts of a return visit for what is effectively a cheese toastie and hot chocolate. 3 toasties and 2 hot chocolates costing £27. Granted the nicest cheese toastie I’ve had which is the reason for the 4 star rating. Another downside are the queues. If the business what’s to take off it needs to be able to meet demand and only being able to cook a couple of toasties at any one time is not ideal for customers. The wait would be ok on a good day but it is Northern Ireland and weather is unpredictable so they could do with investing in some form of shelter to justify the prices. As ideally customers do want to sit outside and enjoy the warm combination, rather than from their car. This brings me on to the parking issue. Very unsafe no clear parking area with customers in the queue having to continually move to avoid being knocked over as cars exit and enter.

Hipster place on the north coast. The grilled cheese sandwiches are undoubtedly tasty but at £27 for 3 of them with drinks they’re pricey enough. You’re paying for the location and the hipster style. We each tried one of the different sandwiches - I had the cheese and ham one and it didn't disappoint. It was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches which were priced from £6 up to £7.50. If you love hot chocolate, they have a bonfire hot chocolate which is hot chocolate with salted caramel, marshmallows and fluff. This is a real little gem. One of those fantastic little places that is run by passionate people who are happy to talk about their story, produce and ethos. I fear that as word spreads, numbers rise and the site gets congested and the personal touch disappears. So get there soon and don’t tell too many people. Please. We stopped today with friends after they recommended the ‘hot cheese caravan in the hedge’. It was worth a visit based on that description alone. Being close to such a big tourist attraction has not spoilt this caravan based gourmet snack van. It’s small enough to avoid the tourist busses and easy enough to drive straight past to only attract those in the know and the curious. ( watch the gate in, it’s tight) I had the blue cheese and chorizo which was absolutely delicious. We also got some of their home made pickles that cut through the hot cheese perfectly. The kids loved the ice cream special but one between two after a sandwich would suffice. I really liked the environmentally considered approach to all the packaging, and cutlery. It’s great food, freshly prepared to order, so if the car parks full you might have to wait a short while. The other down side is a lack of covered area if the weather is bad.

Long overdue account of a wee visit to the Mini Maegden on the Wednesday before Easter.I had seen the pictures of amazing toasted sarnies on Facebook, and a visit had been on my radar for a few weeks. We ordered 2 bonfire hot chocolates with marshmallow fluff. One with broken cookie pieces strategically suspended in the marshmallow and one without. It was mid afternoon so we decided to share a sarnie as we were heading out for dinner later. No such thing as a bacon and cheese toastie at Mini Maegden ..... so the lovely ladies guided me to the Mini Maegden version.St Gall cheese with Coppi on a sour dough bread. Served with Apple Jelly and pickled pears on the side.I realised on my first bite of this half toastie, that I had made a big mistake. I shouldn't have agreed so quickly to share. Next time I'm getting one to myself. The flavours married perfectly. And the contrast of the cold apple jelly with the hot toastie is just a taste sensation. I've never had pickled pear before, boy it was amazing. I will definitely be back for a 2nd fix. The texture of the soft melted cheese with the crunchy toasted sourdough was divine.Boy, I really do love the contrasts of hot with cold, soft with crunchy. The hot chocolate drinks are memorable. The marshmallow fluff is arranged right around the ring at the top of the cup. It looks like you are going to dive into a volcano of sticky lovlieness. There is a cinder toffee flavour which is absolutely reminiscent of an autumn bonfire. It delivers what it promised. And I would certainly order another one but maybe not with a sandwich. It is clear that the ladies are passionate about sourcing their ingredients. They are artisan products. And the pricing reflects that. This ain't no 4 quid meal deal from Boots. Thank goodness. This is a beautiful toastie made with passion and love. And I for one would happily travel 50miles in pursuit of it.Plus the banter with the girls is included in the price. And the girls have also sourced packaging that is completely bio-degradable.Go on........you know you want to.

A little upset at how much the national trust wanted to charge us to park our car, we drove off in search of local knowledge. We found it in a little field off Causeway Road. In the shape of Emma and Jo of Maegden Café. The café is a beautifully presented caravan in the field. Plenty of parking for food only.Having visited the Causeway we went back to the café to have lunch. We both had coffees, which were excellent. Great quality. We then had toasted cheese sandwiches. These were made with local fresh produce, soda bread and three different types of Irish cheese. To put it bluntly, these sandwiches were stunning. We would say the best toasted cheese sandwiches we have ever had, and we have had some great ones.We spent an hour or so chatting to Emma and Jo, and they were charming and interesting girls. We both wish them every success with their café. They fully deserve it.They serve quality home made and locally produced food and excellent coffee.
