Longsands Fish Kitchen in North Tyneside

Every visit to Tynemouth must have a stop at this fabulous restaurant - cosy environment, excellent fresh fish. What I like the most is that the fried is not greasy. The staff is always accommodating and polite. The restaurant is spotless.

One of the best fish and chips spots in Tynemouth! The service is friendly and efficient, perfect for a quick meal. While the restaurant is clean and conveniently close to the beach, seating is limited, there are only a couple of outdoor tables, and the indoor area often has a long queue. The price is reasonable also. Your best bet? Grab a takeaway and enjoy it by the water!

In my opinion, the best fish and chips I have had in the North East. I do love their other dishes too.

There’s a reason this place has award-winning chippies! I had the cod fish & chips (~£15), and my friend got the haddock with mushy peas add-on (£17 ish, I think), and both were AMAZING. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the tartare and chilli sauce took it to the next level. Didn’t even need salt or pepper—flavours were spot on! The staff were so lovely, like someone give them a raise lol 😭 I didn't get their names but they were two girls working on 16 Mar about 12-1 PM ish. Also, I got lucky getting a table without a booking, but I saw quite a few people turned away because it was full. If you want to secure a seat, definitely book ahead! Much love from Manchester! ❤️

We recently visited the area and discovered this amazing restaurant. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious. Catering for dietary needs the gluten free batter was lovely and crisp. Can't wait to come back.

Went on a Saturday and it was veryyy busy, but for good reason! Loads of vegan and gf options. The battered vegan sausage was simply unreal. Also offered scraps (not vegan technically!). One comment would be they didn’t advertise the special until right by the till, and so I didn’t notice it. Vegan tartare sauce would also be fab, but you can’t have everything! Some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and not outrageously expensive either

Ordered some chips mid week - they were rubbery and tasteless. Had them with mayonnaise - a plastic sachet of white stuff - why can't they make their own? - which all cost £4.50. What a rip. I took half the box back they were so bad.

We had a family gathering there and all enjoyed the experience and service. It was a good idea to ise this venue and may well be an annual event now.

Might be a good idea if you aren’t intending to be open if you at least inform your customers/put a notice on Facebook etc. Complete wasted journey to get there at 5.10pm today to find your’e closed when the website states you’re open until 7.30pm, particularly in this weather!

Keen to try the award winning Fish and Chip restaurant and take away on Hotspur St Tynemouth. We didn't have a reservation but the staff kindly found us a space and spot for an hour in between bookings. The Haddock and Cod were cooked to perfection, so fresh and crispy. There is a takeaway section at the front on the corner and a seating area at the back with a bar. I particularly loved the curry sauce and gravy containers. Usually takeaway curry sauce can look a bit orange and clumpy but this had something a bit more sophisticated in a darker creamier taste and texture. Thankyou to Lilly for her customer service today.

We stopped in here instead of opting to eat on the Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry. Brilliant move as the fish and chips (cod) were outstanding. I'm a bit picky about fish and chips in general as we get very fresh fish over on the West Coast of Scotland. Longsands massively delivered as the fish was really fresh and the chips excellent. Food was on the table very promptly and the serving staff were super friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest perhaps but for such quality it is a no brainer. Also opted for the curry sauce which was also excellent. Would definitely do this again prior to paying £25 each on the ferry for very medicore food. The bill for 4 of us was only £65 at Longsands!!!

Day trip out to the coast so decided to have fish and chips for lunch. This was nice discovery. Located in the middle of the town of Tynemouth it serves fresh fried fish with good selection of sides. I had the Haddock. A very nice touch is the board showing where the fish and potatoes are sourced from including names of fisherman and farmers!

Simply Devine. There was 7 in our group, service and food 5 star. Top tip, book a table, we saw so many being disappointed as they hadn’t booked.

Am a frequent goer. Great food, great price the only thing that would make it 5 stars would be if they offered a bit of parsley on the side.

Fish and chips at its best. Despite the queue, there was little waiting time. If you're lucky, there's a seat on the sidewalk.

Second time here and had haddock and chips for £11. The portion is alright. Overall their fish and chips are one of the better ones even though I would've hoped that there's more tables for people to dine in.

Couple vegan options so whenever we have a beach walk I can go here for a couple vegan options. Be good to see a vegan fish option in the future too. :)

Excellent food as always, massive portion for a reasonable price. One member of the party was gluten free and the fish portion was just as big and as good standard.

Longsands Fish Kitchen used to be our go-to for gluten-free, but recently, it's been disappointing. My girlfriend, who has coeliac disease, got ill after eating there. It’s a shame because they used to be really reliable and it is probably down to a simple mistake

My partner and I had haddock, chips and curry sauce. So tasty, excellent quality, good price, lovely staff and efficient service, the best fish we have eaten, highly recommend.

This place is in the middle of Front Street Tynemouth, the fish and chips are very good. They have a notice board telling you where the fish was caught that day and which boat caught it. The staff are polite and efficient. Waiting time is fairly short depending on when you go off course... Good Friday for example is always going to be busy. There is some seating outside and also a restaurant part. I've never eaten in the restaurant so can't comment on that. This is one of the best fish and chip shops at the coast.

Managed to get a seat without booking but can imagine this will not always be the case. Ordered fish and chips from the menu, which is cooked in the fryers from the joining takeaway, which serves some of the same menu items, too. They have gluten-free options for most of thier dishes.

Without question the freshest and best cooked haddock I’ve ever had. Chips & mushy peas also excellent. Very friendly and attentive service and they do excellent gluten free (for my wife) as well.

It’s so sad i’m writing this review because this place has been perfect every time we have visited but this seems to be the new normal. We booked a table at 2pm and arrived 5 mins before, we were told it was a 5 min wait for our table so we weren’t sat down until just before 2:10pm. The food was phenomenal, there is no question about it and the girls working there seemed lovely too. However when they cleared our plates, a bill was placed down immediately at 2:45pm, my boyfriend apologised and asked if we could order dessert in which they replied no because the table is booked at three so we could take the desserts to go. We were then stared at all the way up until 3 and it felt VERY rushed. I don’t understand how they think it’s acceptable to rush people in and out in 45 mins when a booking was made and it’s not the cheapest. Such a shame as it was for a special occasion and we couldn’t even enjoy the dessert.

Amazing food but also really good service and riley is so genuinly friendly and very attentive, and came back to our table a few times as he heard we would like another drink so we really enjoyed all of our food and also when we mentioned needing another drink and glad we waited and chose here rather than going elsewhere, only thing is it does get busy so you can't necessarily just walk in we were a group of 5 but definitely worth the wait!!! Would go back. Thanks to all.

Busy, but only a short wait, fish is cooked fresh, so worth it. Plenty of staff. Gluten free options clearly marked and staff well aware. GF vinegar and tartare sauce available. Even a note on the board to say the name of the boat who supplied the fish.

Perfect every time we visit, staff and food are always amazing!

We very much enjoyed our fish & chips with curry sauce and mushy peas. It was a busy Friday evening but service was swift, efficient and friendly. We are used to haddock mainly so it was nice to try cod (and cod bites) for a change. We are also from the part of the country where curry sauce isn't common but it didn't take us long to become fans! The batter was particularly lovely and crispy

Haddock and chips with curry sauce and salt and pepper prawns. Fish was nicely cooked (moist inside) , crispy batter. Prawns were big and juicy with a crispy coating and curry sauce was awesome. Little one loved her cod bites and the curry sauce. Super friendly service, highly recommended

Food was good but not good anymore since food is not halal. Gutted about that and also had a rubbish experience last time with the staff there. Staff were quite rude. Don't think people should be prevented from their own honest experience.

I drove 30 mins to this place from home, following a recommendation from a friend. I telephoned ahead to ensure I would be served as it was close to closing time, spoke to a lady who’s first name begins with a B. On arrival served by a stroppy lady who refused to serve me. Tried to explain I’d already rang ahead and was assured I’d be served, she wasn’t interested whatsoever, she has zero customer services skills and an overall appaling experience, waste of my time and a great example on not how to treat customers, there’s a right and a wrong way to speak to people.

Fantastic fish and chips, however I wasn't too impressed with the haddock it may be different without the skin but the cod and REAL mushy peas were spot on use the Longsands app to save queuing.

Been a few years ago and it was very nice. However today was very disappointed. The haddock was OK but not enough batter and the chips were disgusting. They were pale tasteless and hard. The staff were very nice but the food poor

Absolutely phenomenal!!! One of the best chippies I’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly and just simply good at what they do. I am a vegan and the option to have vegan battered sausage and chips did not disappoint! The curry sauce by the way is UNREAL! It was so peppery and flavourful. Coming from London I will definitely be making the effort to come back up and bring my family to experience it too. 11/10!!

Best fish and chips I've had for miles around!

Fish was very small and thin. Chips were tasty but had to throw several black and green ones away. Disappointed will not return.

Great fish and chips, had gf batter and gf vinegar for my wife, service and food was excellent. Would be handy if it was a little larger as the standing tables round the edge would have been great as the weather was dire, but if you use them you feel like you're hindering people in the queue or people or people waiting to pick up their food. Still that's a minor niggle and the food, service and staff were ace

Staying in Tynemouth for two weeks and we were recommended to visit Longsands. Wow, we know some good places to eat, but this wins hands down. As foodies it's easy to be disappointed, so we'll be back before leaving. Exceptional.

We had a (Takeaway)portion of chips each & honestly they were some of the best I've ever had! Chunky chips, covered in salt n vinegar with heaps of batter, at a reasonable price of £4 each. The service was spot on , staff were very helpful, considering how busy it was I got served quickly too. I would highly recommend.

The coating of the fish cracks like glass which is perfect. I ate an hour after getting the take out but it was still super crispy. Can’t wait to sit by the beach and eat this again.
