Popped in for a take away coffee as it seemed quite popular but firstly it’s unclear where to place your order and no staff member was forthcoming with info. Eventually I found the ordering counter and even after being acknowledged I stood for about 2 minted before someone spoke to me. Even then it was like I was causing an inconvenience. Server was rude and very blunt. She plonked the coffee down with no comment for me to assume it was ready for me to take. Won’t be going back. Don’t know how it’s busy although the interior was very homely. Shame about the staff

This visit was my first and it will be my last visit, the food I had was over priced and very bland, I would leave the salad off the jacket potato as it was embarrassing even though I enjoy a salad, the prawns were chewy in the marie-rose sauce, the cheesecake seemed old and the gingerbread on the top was soggy. It was over priced food and not worth half the money I paid.

The panini I had was so dry, it was inedible and a complete rip off! The one available toilet.......FILTHY!!!! IVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY SMELLY TOILET IN MY LIFE, AND THIS IS IN A CAFE!!!. The skirts boards, walls, windows doors all filthy. This place should be closed down until a full deep clean has been carried out. A report has been sent to the local authorities for a hygiene assessment. I’ve been to Leaf Bark & Berries before and enjoyed their food, so as I was passing I went in and ordered a soup. I ordered soup as I assumed it’d be quick to arrive. After what felt like 10 minutes I went to the till and explained that I’d like to cancel the soup as I did not have time to keep waiting. Rather than accept this, the young man serving me was abrupt, saying it was in the microwave and it had only been 5 minutes. I didn’t want to argue and reiterated that I did not want to wait and he handed me a refund. Maybe if he had been more courteous, and as he said it was in the microwave, I might have changed my mind. However by then I did not want to stay and I doubt I will return as there are plenty of other places to try instead.

The sandwiches which we had were nice. My Dad fancied some Pies for Dinner since he saw that they were selling some so we got some take away pies, which were the Chicken and Leek Pies and the Lamb Pies and they were so nice. So we thought we would visit again. So we got 2 Chicken and Leek pies and got a Gingerbread fudge for Dinner and dessert. The staff were lovely. We were making our way up the Durham Coast from Seaton Carew on a recent self-catering break and came across Seaham. Really liked this little harbour town and as we were walking by the lovely memorial garden, we noticed Leaf Bark and Berries with outside seating. There was a table free and had a look at the extensive, very reasonable menu and decided to stay for brunch. We both chose the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup - excellent all round and so was the coffee. Can't understand why 'Travelingjohn 123 is quite so venomous about this great little place!

Myself and a friend visited today. No one came to us to direct us to a seat, we had to ask. We sat on a table which looked like it hadn’t been washed since March. The wipes I used were grey when I finished. Then looking at the menus just about finished us off. They were full of stains, which I also wiped down. The food came and it was ok but we will not be hurrying back. I also used the toilet which was absolutely filthy. There was no track/trace system in place. A total lack of interest by management. We were greeted by two friendly members of the team, a young lad and lass, cheerful, both very attentive and efficient. The place was very clean and well organised, as it was sunny and warm we chose to sit outside.Ordered two large lattes and some cakes. We were not dissappointed, fabulous coffees, strong, tasty and hot (no sugar required) they were served with the uptmost care in the current climate of restrictions and tight rules. Sat outside in the sunshine, the table and chairs were spotless, the service was promt and very friendly, lovely cakes too, very very lush. HIGHLY recommend. Looking forward to retuning :)

I feel it is my duty to put forward my view of this cafe after reading some of the negative reports published here.First of all the food was splendid I had the sausage/bacon baguette which was substantial and terrific value at £2.95, my wife and cousin were equally pleased with their choices of fruit scone and brushcheta. We had a large pot of tea, and requesting a jug of hot water to accompany it was no problem for the staff.Regarding the staff the two people who dealt with us were attentive and polite and suggesting I would require brown sauce with my butty showed perceptiveness as well.I had no complaints with the cleanliness of the cafe, the toilet was perfectly adequate and anyone seeking a good value eating place in Seaham need look no further.

Vistied yesterday as we were passing and fancied a change. We normally go to the lamp room, just a few paces up the street. We walked in and were not greeted by anyone, told where to order or that it was card only (no sign either). The place was really dirty too, cob webs everywhere and tables full of crumbs. The staff weren’t great either, but as they were all young I don’t really blame them. The owners or managers need to begin by giving them adequate training in customer service and food hygiene. The food was okay and cheap, hence the two stars. I really can’t get over how dirty the place was though! Has so much potential due to location too. Real shame.

Visited today, stood for 10 minutes at the counter for 2 drinks, considering im heavily pregnant and 4 staff stood doing nothing feel like i should have been allowed to take a seat and drinks brought over seeing how it is a cafe. 4 young inexperienced, unfriendly people behind the counter more interested in talking to each other. Girl serving had to ask how to heat milk? Surely this is basic training. Was then told cash only - no visable signs up and wasn't informed of this. Puzzled how people pay for the items of high value in the shop if no card machine. I did say but theres no sign up and i wasnt informed to be met with two blank faces. I asked if I could drink my drink then get cash out to which I was told no would need to go to Barclays along Seaham and then come back - as this is too far to walk at 40weeks pregnant I left and won't return. Staff need some serious training on customer service. Hope you acknowledge this as recent TripAdvisor reviews highlight some of the same issues so really think this matter needs attention.

My daughter asked the young guy who served us if the cheese had been mixed with Mayonnaise, he said it was just mozzarella. Daughter went to the counter in front of the shop to ask someone else as she has an egg allergy and needs to be careful, they produced a large tub of bought in, ready mixed up slop containing pepperoni, jalapeños and some type of (cheese?) and the ingredients on the tub said it contained egg. Upon entering the cafe I asked the staff member whether they had anything suitable for my child’s food allergies and was told yes, a jacket potato would be safe. He watched me take off coats, unpack a portable high chair, get child and elderly relatives seated, books and toys out on the table... then when I tried to order he said he’d sold the last jacket potato to the person who came in after me. There was nothing for my child to eat so I had to pack everything up again and leave amid hysterical crying. How hard would it have been to tell the person who came in after me that I’d already requested the last potato? Or even just tell me immediately when he sold it, instead of letting me continue to waste my time unpacking and getting everyone seated? I’ve since discovered they only have a one star hygiene rating so I’m glad we didn’t eat there anyway.

I worked at leaf bark and berries for a year and I got treat like a dog. I would have to come into work at 9am to start my 9 hour shift at the age of 16. In this shift I would not get a break at all and was not allowed to sit down for the full duration of the shift. Jeremy (the shop owner) would swear and call us names. he would even make fun of the customers including the customers with obvious and clear disabilities. if he offered us some dinner which he would forget to do most days, we would have to eat it against the red hot oven stood up. The oven was near the counter and we still had to work while eating our dinner. when it got to pay day we never received a payslip and it was always cash in hand. When he couldn't afford our pay he used to ask us if he could owe us half of our pay the following week. When I left the job I received no P45 as he did everything outside of the books. For future customers, the café has no food hygiene and most dishes/cutlery were washed in a luke warm dirty dish water. all the reviews I've ready saying the staff look miserable isn't wrong, that's because they are literally getting forced to work without any break and are treat like slaves, Jeremy Elder is to blame.

Tempting cakes and savouries on display as you walk through to a pleasant seating area. Decent menu selection, with very reasonable prices. Just to be aware, you can only pay by cash, as their card machine has not been working for months.

Paramos en Seaham en nuestro viaje por la costa de Durham. Encontramos este pequeño café por casualidad para escapar de la Lluvia de Durham. Chocolate caliente y pastel de terciopelo rojo simplemente deliciosa.

I think they make their own scones on the premisis. Fruit scone with butter very very nice. Only thing amiss is the fact they have no free wifi.

We regularly visit here. It's got a decent cafe menu, does the best coffee ever (illy coffee) and has delicious home made cakes - all that you can get to take out if you want (as we often do). They also do lovely gifts and ornaments, small furniture, pictures etc it's like Aladdin's cave. They also sell Movenpick ice cream which is Devine and a lot cheaper than some other ice cream shops in town the place is just Brilliant!! No card machine in use for last few months so have to have cash at the minute

We often pop in when we are in Seaham. It's not very big but I think being small gives it more charm. There is a good selection of food if you want it or just a tea or coffee with cake is also good. There are lots of interesting things for sale at the back of the shop so don't forget to pop and have a look around.

When visiting Seaham we took shelter from the rain in this little coffee shop. We stopped for Coffee and Tea. We were seated right in front of the food prep and display area. They have the most amazing cakes, pies and desserts. Look forward to going back to sample some food! Only down side is the toilets need a lick of paint and a tidy up!

needed a late lunch after a walk along the coastal path. Very impressed with this café and also the range and price of the various ornaments and objects for sale. Ordered one herbal tea, one latte, one sharing starter of anti pasto and a Cajun chicken baguette again to share. Service was excellent and friendly, food was great but ended up taking most of baguette away as was huge portions - the young lad offered us a takeaway box when we were using napkins. Great value at £13.50 for a large lunch for 2 and 2 drinks. Not sure what experience others had with staff and quality of food/cleanliness but if there were problems they definitely been addressed. Three ladies at table next to us were also very complimentary about their meal.

Travelled to Seaham from South Tyneside to have lunch at this Cafe. Not very welcoming, atmosphere flat, staff soulless . Food disappointing . My jacket potato was mostly raw so only ate the Cajun chicken and salad. Told a member of staff about it and he didn't seem to know how to respond. I advised him just to let the cook know. Not to be repeated.

We has breakfast on a Saturday morning and ordered at the bar which was staffed by a rather glum young man who only cheered up when jollied along by my wife - perhaps he'd had a bad morning. The room was as chilly as his welcome so we kept our coats on which is not really conducive to an enjoyable meal. The food was pretty good and was hot and plentiful with perfectly cooked poached eggs. At about a fiver for a full English it was definitely good value. It was served by another young man who was cheerier than his mate but the overall atmosphere didn't make us want to rush back.Glum lad didn't respond to our cheerio on the way out. Perhaps he needs to find a job he enjoys more.

Before you are tempted to eat here - the atmosphere always seems nice - just have a look at the food preparation area - it is minging, dirty , disorganised, old cupboards and work surfaces.. I could not see a food hygiene certification on display.

Made a return visit today with my daughter and grand daughter especially for the monkey soup, delicious as always. It was very busy but worth the wait as the food never disappoints, tried one of the sandwiches today, without doubt one of the best I have ever had. We were sat opposite the sandwich counter and noted the counters were cleaned down after every order very impressed hence the five star rating.

Stopped of here for a hot chocolate and coffee with family after a walk down to Seahawk Harbour. The cappuccino was a latte and the milk was scalded but the hot chocolates were good. The cake selection appears to be very good and the pies too. The area behind the coffee counter looked to me like it was in need of a very good clean. If it didn't look so dirty I would have given a better rating.

For a small place leaf bark & berries has a decent selection, they don't have an extensive menu as they don't have a huge kitchen on site but they do a great job with what they've got. The do Illy coffee and it's one of the best. They also do gorgeous ice cream and you can get your food to take away if you prefer. We often pop in and get a coffee to take out and drink whilst walking along to noses point or an ice cream to sit and eat next to Tommy. It is nice to have a wander around the gifts and accessories when you're done and there's some really great n quirky stuff to be had and decent prices

Hubby and I love popping in for coffee and when we have friends and family visiting we always include a trip here and that's on their request! We had homemade scones and coffee and it was really lovely. Then we always head to the back of the shop because it's an alladdins cave of beautiful items for the home. Jeremy and his staff are genuinely friendly and make you feel really welcome. This place is a must visit if you're visiting Seaham.
