Another great experience at our neighbourhood gem! Tried their 5 course tasting menu & really enjoyed it. The souffle was super light & cheesy, the short rib nicely executed with lots of contrasting condiments, and chocolate caramel cremeux so morish I could have had another. If I had to be really picky, not all of the short rib was perfectly tender but it didn't take away from overall enjoyment!

Even though I live at the other side of London, I love going to Le Vacherin for the regular dishes and the special dinners. I had the Truffle dinner with several friends who also adore truffles. Initially we were shown a fragrant array of raw truffles to be used for our dinner - the aroma stayed with us after the truffles went back to the Kitchen The amuse bouche was a lovely small cup of mushroom soup with a thick texture, topped with a generous layer of black truffle. Very good start! The course of ceviche of Norwegian Halibut was disappointing - a very soft, slimy row of long fillets with insufficient sauce - not what should be done to this firm, delightful fish My companions liked it. The highlight was a perfectly cooked generous beef fillet crowned with foie gras, on a bed of kale. Matched with a Croatian red wine it was worth being there for that one dish. Good value especially when compared with other similar events in central London.

We had been before to the truffle tasting and asked a foodie colleague to join us. The staff were great and gave us a good table and the service was passable as they seemed over-run. The food was very variable. A few courses (amouse bouche and duck) were good but the rest really did not bring out the truffle and were very disappointing. Wine pairing was also mixed...

Ah, the tantalising allure of French gastronomy—a symphony of refined taste and exquisite service. It is a world with which I am intimately acquainted, having been raised amidst the culinary artistry of my father, a chef trained in the hallowed kitchens of Paris and later crowned head chef of a prestigious London hotel. Dining out, for me, is not merely a meal but a ritual, a celebration of life’s finer pleasures. With this in mind, I revisited Le Vacherin, a venue I had previously regarded as a paragon of French dining, albeit with expectations tempered by the wisdom that even the brightest stars can falter. My first visit, a serene Sunday luncheon orchestrated by the ever-capable Marco and an attentive waitress, had been an affair of unblemished excellence. The Sunday roast was sublime, the service impeccable—a harmonious dance of taste and timing. How different, then, was this latest experience, where the gilded promise of the past was tarnished by indifference and ineptitude. I had secured a table for four at 15.45 PM, booking online with the expectation of another memorable meal. We arrived punctually and were seated with efficiency, but the absence of Marco cast a shadow over the proceedings. In his stead was a manageress whose approach to hospitality lacked the finesse and warmth that Marco so effortlessly embodied. Our first hurdle came with the menus. The Sunday roast menu, for which we had specifically come, was not initially offered; only the à la carte menu was presented. Upon request, the Sunday menu was reluctantly provided, only for the manageress to inform us, minutes later, that the roast was “sold out.” A disappointment, to be sure, but worse was to follow. When the manageress returned to take our orders, she paused mid-sentence to announce, with all the charm of an officious bureaucrat, that the restaurant would close at 1645 PM, and we must vacate by 17.15 PM, without the possibility of dessert. The brusqueness of her tone, coupled with the absurdity of the proclamation, left us bewildered. How strange, for during our previous visit at a similar hour, Marco had facilitated a leisurely three-course meal without so much as a raised eyebrow. The three desserts in any event did not require any chef to prepare. What made this decree all the more galling was the lack of forewarning. The booking platform made no mention of such time constraints, and we had journeyed some distance—two of our party being severely disabled—to partake in what we assumed would be an unhurried meal. Instead, we were met with an experience so rushed and inhospitable that one could scarcely believe it was the same establishment. As I glanced around the half-empty dining room, the reason for its vacancy became glaringly obvious. Without Marco’s guiding hand, the ethos of prioritising the customer and treating them with kindness has been utterly lost. Hospitality is, after all, an art, and here it has been reduced to a hollow transaction. The brilliance of Le Vacherin has dimmed, and though the culinary delights of France will always call to me, I shall not heed that call from this establishment again. To return would be to invite further disappointment, and life, as we know, is too brief for mediocrity.

Pretty disappointing experience. Very average aperitifs. For a “french” restaurant the bread served on the table was very poor. Would have been unacceptable in France. It was also dumped on the table and the waiter said over his shoulder as he rushed off “that’s anchovy butter yeah”. Food was pretty underwhelming. Very bland velouté. Took 45 minutes to arrive. Not sure what was happening as there were loads of staff there but very slow service. The Melba Toast with the starter was not crisp or fresh (inedible) so I had to order a bread basket which took longer than 10 minutes. Perhaps this is because I had a Groupon voucher & quality/ quantity / service was scaled back according? Very disappointing.

In case you didn't know, the prix fixe menu at this formidable restaurant for a three course Sunday lunch must offer some of the very best value for money in west London, if not beyond. Le Vacherin remains one of the key outposts of classic French cooking in the Chiswick area, and the current going rate for the deal is 36.00 per head, excluding drinks and service. Classic French-inspired dishes go alongside traditional British Sunday roasts, and the service is impeccable. Heavens! One could otherwise be in Paris. Highly recommended!

The prix fixe Sunday Lunch menu at le Vacherin must surely be one of the best-kept value secrets among the restaurant-dining fraternity, as my wife and I rediscovered recently. A three course spread for £36.00 per head! No compromises in the standards of what comes out of the kitchen nor of the attentive service on offer in the dining room, either. Our recent foray there found us both starting with ping-pong ball-sized 'bon-bons' of crisp pigs-head'- translated perhaps as slow-cooked shredded pig's cheek - each nestling in a crispy coating, with Ravigote saucing aside. My wife went on to a classic slow-cook Daube de Boeuf plus accompaniments while I myself greatly enjoyed generous portions of aged Hereford beef, cooked pink, and starring as the basis of a traditional Sunday roast. Crème Brulées flavoured with Madagascan vanilla provided yet another classic with which to finish our meal. Additional cost of drinks and service aside, this represents quite extraordinary value for money these days from a restaurant that has consistently kept its standards very high.

The food was much more expensive than the last time we visited and the table the four of us were seated in was near the window and very cold. Staff were helpful but service was slower than usual. Nestled in the charming heart of Chiswick, West London, Le Vacherin is a traditional French bistro that offers a delightful escape to the flavours of Parisian gastronomy. This hidden gem is perfect for a romantic date night or any special occasion, with its cosy atmosphere and impeccable service that truly sets it apart. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Mariana and Leah, our servers for the evening, went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The chef was also very accommodating, catering to our dietary needs without compromising on the flavours of the dishes. Our evening began with a serving of fresh bread accompanied by anchovy butter. The butter was rich, and savoury, and left us excited for what was to come. For starters, my wife enjoyed the Twice-Baked St Maure de Touraine Soufflé with heritage beetroot sorbet and bitter leaves—a dish that was as visually stunning as it was delicious. I opted for the Sicilian Red Prawn Tortelloni, topped with caviar, squid ink tuile, and finished with a shellfish bisque and a hint of white Alba truffle essence. Each bite was a burst of flavour, a perfect introduction to the culinary journey ahead. For the mains, I savoured the Supreme of Stone Bass, paired with red chicory, cauliflower purée, and Austell Bay mussels. While the dish is usually served with a white wine velouté, the chef crafted a special sauce just for me, which was delightful. My wife chose the Tranche of Wild Turbot, served with artichoke Barigoule, sea asparagus, and Palourde clams—a dish that perfectly balanced freshness and indulgence. We also shared a side of gratin Dauphinois, which was creamy and satisfying. To finish our meal on a sweet note, I indulged in the Passion Fruit Cheesecake, with confit pineapple, Alphonso mango foam, and orange sorbet. This dessert was a true highlight, offering a symphony of tropical flavours. My wife enjoyed the Peanut Butter Parfait, paired with caramelized banana cake, sorbet, and puffed corn—another superb choice. Our evening at Le Vacherin was truly memorable. If you're looking to recapture the authenticity of French cuisine, look no further. The restaurant also offers halal options, which can be pre-ordered in advance. I highly recommend Le Vacherin for its supreme quality and exceptional service—a true taste of France in the heart of Chiswick.

Upon our arrival, we were met with a rather subdued atmosphere. The restaurant was eerily quiet, allowing us to eavesdrop on conversations taking place at tables five tables away. Hoping for an exceptional dining experience that aligned with the glowing reviews we had read, we ordered the Chateaubriand aged for 28 days. Unfortunately, the dish was devoid of flavours and quite chewy. Its accompaniment, the bone marrow, was an odd pairing and not particularly appetising, which was disappointing. We speculated that perhaps the chef was having an off day. However, the Oysters were great. On a positive note, the service we received was quite good.

The lapin aux pruneaux et Armagnac was disappointing as I was expecting a dish more alike the French equivalent ie a white sauce made with pruneaux and Armagnac rather than a green sauce / coulis. Ok I took some time to decide if I needed to leave this review or not…but I think because of the whole experience I deemed it necessary for future diners considering my aunt, who has lived in Chiswick forever, loved this restaurant and has come here for years, also felt the experience we had the other evening was completely not up to par per her usual visits. To preface: I have had the pleasure of working in and running over a dozen establishments back in the states, anywhere from a dive bar to fine dining restaurants, for the last 12 years. That being said I will say the SAVIOR of the entire experience was the Maitre D. I cannot remember her name but she was Italian and had glasses. She was LOVELY. Game changer to have someone like that running the show. I will break this down by doing Pros vs Cons and try to keep it simple and to the point. Pros: - our food (my partner and i shared the Chateaubriand) was damn good. Needed salt but that’s just my personal taste buds. - the Maitre D was excellent. She was without a doubt one of the best I have ever come across - cheese plate was very tasty as well Cons: (this is going to be lengthy) - our server. She was nice. Sure. BUT. I do not know what the hell was going with her but she did not have a clue on how to address guests in a formal setting. Wayyyy too overwhelming, oversharing strange stories we didn’t ask for, getting too friendly (ie very touchy with us, physically). As a former server/bartender you have to learn to read the room. She did not. Keep it short and sweet and concise. She kept calling my stepfather “papa” after we had already told her not to. She forgot 5-6 things. Not 1-2. That can be looked over…but 5-6 at an establishment like this is just unacceptable. The whole experience with her was just not good. I don’t know how to put it any other way without getting rude and I won’t do that on this platform. - the value: Atrocious. I mean that. My partner ordered the scallop dish, which was somewhere around £15-16 ($20USD). We were warned it was small which is fine. But it came out and I was SHOCKED. It looked as if they took one medium sized scallop and cut it into 3 little pieces. Completely unacceptable and outrageous to even contemplate serving that as a “complete” dish. That’s an amuse buche AT BEST. You will not get your money’s worth here. The total bill was £471 and I left hungry. Ridiculous. - the food: my mother crab tart was underwhelming, lacked salt and again, tiny. The cocktails…don’t get me started. Not up to par for what you’d expect with paying that amount. The Escargot…man. Take the snails OUT of the shell. I had to crack two of my shells to get to the snails. Don’t make me work to eat my food. If I want to do that I will go to a seafood joint where I crack crab legs. The Lamb entree. Overcooked. And the green sludge they SMOTHERED the plate in was completely tasteless… The creme brulee was underwhelming as well. It was fine, but I’d pass on it if I ever came back. - the manager/host (not even sure??): when we came in and gave our name (Burton) he mistook it for another party under Barton and tried to seat us at a table with a man that was already sitting down. I repeatedly told him, “no, this isn’t right” and he just seemed utterly confused even though we made it clear the name was Burton. Nobody really greeted us when we came in, it was more of a “oh hey, follow me…”. Not very fine dining if you ask me… And I will stop there. It just was a BAD experience. I hope it’s not normally like this and from the reviews it doesn’t seem as such. I also noticed they may have been down a bartender which made things super hectic. I get that, when a staff member doesn’t show it can throw the whole service off. I do wish to return and I do hope they see this and plan to amend it in some sort of way for my Aunt as she was thoroughly disappointed because she picked out the spot. Oh well.

We were a party of 5 - when we arrived at the restaurant they wanted to seat us at a table with a complete stranger?! When we landed at our table it was apparent there was no bartender so drinks took forever. Food was ok but not outstanding. The restaurant seemed to be caught in a time warp with an outsize tab attached to it. 600 hundred pounds!!! really, for mediocre food and crazy service. They were clearly having a bad day but we were all gobsmacked. Dont even think of eating here..

It’s a lovely restaurant and whilst set up for Father’s Day by immediately giving the two men on the table a beer it took ages to be asked for drinks for the girls. No wine list given so just requested house rose! Service was slow, coffees came well after desserts and our water wasn’t refilled. Food was delicious and although not a bad experience we won’t rush back!

This is our favorite place in Chiswick, and the first one come to mind when we think of doing a nice meal locally. Dishes are impeccably served, always well prepared and delicious. Staff are lovely, kind and very attentive.

Quality food in a nice relaxed setting. A blue cheese soufflé (twice baked) was nice though I wasn't sure about the accompanying sorbet -but I suspect I am the exception. Gnocchi delicious. Turbot good. What is especially nice is that two people could bring a bottle of wine with no corkage. A great idea. All in all a tasty somewhat traditional (which I like!) French meal.

Halfway between central London and Heathrow. The Sunday roast was incredible. Would definitely return.

A lovely meal. The service and cooking are superb. Considering the quality of the food, this restaurant is very reasonably priced.

Truly memorable for all the right reasons to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Staff were perfectly attentive with great service. Love the small menu and the food was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere was great with the ongoing murmurings of chat surrounded by simple yet sympathetic decor. Would definitely recommend .

We’re been here many times and this time it was average. To begin with the volume in the glass of champagne was very disappointing. I mentioned it to the waiter and he said “thanks for the feedback”. My scallops starter was delicious but seriously small again. We had the chateaubriand for a main and it was very good. It’s dependable and good quality food in a nice setting/location let down this time by the portion size in my opinion. Prices are moderate to high

Great food, dishes were spectacular and we felt welcomed in the restaurant.Unfortunately the glasses of wine did not meet the expectations. I ordered a glass Saint Emilion and a glass of Port and both of them were full of sediment. Sediments are not a defect of the wine, they are normal especially in aged wines. Sediments in the glass are a naive error of the waiters (I hope not a sommelier) because you can avoid the problem using a micro filter while pouring the wine.

Smart restaurant if a little too formal. Top class French cuisine but limited menu on main courses. Great wine list but a little pricey.

This is a French restaurant in Chiswick. We were a party of three on Saturday for lunch. The restaurant was far from busy. I knew they offered a prix fixe menu but I was given the a la carte only until I asked. The service was obliging and unobtrusive. We each chose different dishes for starters and mains. The description of the “entrees” as “les- hors -d’oeuvres” and the “plats” as “les plats principaux” whilst not strictly incorrect was clumsy. We all enjoyed our starters. The mains were fish and chips, confit d’lapin and daube. They were ok. The daube was a very small portion which suited me but men with more appetite would have found it mean. I still don’t understand the need to serve mains in soup bowls. The additional gratin (served in a cup?) was not right. Too much cream, cheese and overcooked potatoes, not in distinguishable slices. Deserts good, espresso fine. House white from Languedocx2 was right for the occasion. Total price just short of £200 all up good value for what we had, which certainly wasn’t a blowout. The room pleasantly and comfortably laid out and furnished. Good, clean bogs.

Enjoyed my first visit. Staff helpful and attentive though perhaps be clearer on the menus for Sunday lunch. Pudding we both ordered was as discussed with a member of staff. Not to our taste, texture but perhaps just us. Thanks to all.

To start with French, not even the name, we ordered a wine from the menu and they offered us another, the menu was barely two French dishes, the service was terrible, the attention had nothing to do, delayed, inefficient, a total disaster. My rating 1. Terrible service, menu, attention, etc.; They know when I'm back, NEVER.

Fabulous place to eat, good food, lovely atmosphere, attendance to detail, I could go on. It would be very difficult to find any thing to criticise.

The food is good but the booking service Open Table makes me think you do not really want customers, limited time at table, perpetual nuisance calls and emails wanting confirmation. We have enjoyed Le Vacherin many times over the years, njoy the food and ambience and service.

I booked a table for Sunday lunch - 11 people for a special occasion. We arrived at 12.45 and didn't see a starter until two hours later. My guests were only given the A La Carte Menus and not, as advertised, the Sunday Set Menu which was the reason I'd booked the restaurant, having had that menu previously. Far more expensive too - I asked for the Sunday lunch menu and it was handed over with rather less grace than was required. Five bottles of wine later we finally had some food to eat - the food was good, but some was cold (presumably given the wait) - we didn't have the energy to complain. The wine waiter found it nigh on impossible to pour wine for 11 people from two bottles - hugely over filled glasses so that a third bottle was required. Really annoying. The reason we were given for our very long wait was that we hadn't chosen from the Sunday menu exclusively - which was a paltry excuse. This restaurant obviously has an issue with large parties - such a shame as I've had good meals there previously and was a loyal supporter. I won't be going back - bill just shy of £1100, with a tip of 13.5% coming in at £129 - not worth it by a very long way.

What a lovely experience it has been, Friday lunch. The restaurant is immaculate, table setting done to etiquette, lovely maître d and serveur. Big thank you to Leah and Claire for looking after me with care and professionalism. The food was exquisite, well balanced in flavour; lots of varieties even with a groupon voucher. Mercí Chef ! 5 stars well deserved from me.
