Incredible food and long time loyal customer. Sadly the 2 hour wait for delivery last night has finally ended our custom with Lal Jomi. Over the last year we’ve ordered delivery from them they’ve exponentially got worse with delivery times and service. “Food is on the way” 40 minutes later you call, they say they’ll call you back in two minutes then don’t. This is now a standard there. If they can sort out their delivery issues we’ll happily come back.

It was amazing dishes l enjoyed a lot, and the staff were very kind I recommend you to try it!

This was the first time we had eaten here .My husband made a reservation as a surprise for my birthday. We were greeted by the pleasant manager and seated in a booth. The food was delicious, We had poppadoms with relishes.P had an onion bhaji and I had king prawns. For our main dishes P had Naseeri Chicken and I had Salmon.. We had peshwari nann and rice which we shared. The portions were very generous and we took away what we couldn't eat and had it for our lunch today..

Eaten here once and it was a weird vibe. Food fine but not good customer service or hospitality. We live locally and they are bad neighbours. They leave overflowing smelly bins on the street, blocking the pavements. They park illegally and have been known to hit residents cars. Does not make a good impression in what is a nice family neighbourhood, so why would any locals want to support their business. It’s a shame. They will probably delete this as it’s weird they only seem to have one review which is 5 stars…

Easily the best Indian for takeaway in the BS6 area. Really excellent ingredients and choices on the menu. We generally only order takeaway and have nothing but positive feedback. The restaurant (if you are eating in) could be much nicer if it were a little more cosy, it feels a bit cold and unwelcoming for dine-in. We will continue to us it for takeaway though!

Really disappointing chicken tikka masala ordered via Uber Eats. Hardly any meat and absolutely no veg in the sauce. Called to say I wasn’t happy at the quality of the food for the price I paid and was told I did not spend a lot of money as there was a discount! If you are going to offer a discount at the expense of quality - don’t offer it. Won’t order from here again. Food and customer service was shocking.

(Now Cardamom Bay) Nipped in early Sunday evening to collect a takeaway. The place was empty, apart from staff. Collected a chicken rezala, pilau rice and plain naan. The rice was quite nice, the curry average, but ok. Bit greasy, but passable. Though for the cost of the takeaway - £16, I expected something much better. Then we come to the naan - if I can call it that. Usually light un colour, fluffy with just the right dark areas that are slightly crispy with a slight hint of sweetness. And usually teardrop-shaped. This was none of these. It was circular, grey in colour and soggy and spongey. Yes, unbelivable, I felt I needed to wring it out it was so limp and water/oil laden. It looked totally unappealing and just tasted of nothing nice. I suspect that because they were so quiet and it was early, they hadn't bothered to fire up the tandoor oven, as this 'naan' had never been near one. Heaven only knows how they made it, but they managed to make something so simple and normally delicious turn out so bad I only eat a small part to see if it tasted as bad as it looked: and it did. The rest - in the bin. I expected there might have been the odd table taken and people in and out for takeaways - but it was quiet, poss because people won't pay top dollar for sub standard food, made by amateurs. My visit was the first in quite a few years, since it used to be Lal Jomi. But I thought I would give it a try. Will be many many years before I return here - if ever.

Delicious food, owner is lovely and extremely friendly which helps to create a relaxed environment. Authentic, very reasonably priced especially with the student deals. I would 100% recommend.

Great experience! Student Wednesdays have 241 curry offers. The owner is a lovely woman, who made us feel right at home. The food was great and they had a great range of choices.

10/10 Authentic Indian food, a sensational curry I had after work before an appointment across the road. What a find! A hidden gem even, I’m definitely going back with the family. Sensational flavours and a wonderful host too although I forget the lovely ladies name? Highly recommended if you love Indian Cuisine. The chef has been there 40 years and clearly is a master of his/her trade.

The flavours in each dish were fresh and expertly prepared, making for a truly enjoyable meal. I have dined in at this restaurant as well, and have found the owner and staff very friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.Overall, a fantastic take-away and dine-in experience at Cardamom Bay! A true gem in the neighbourhood to have.

We popped by Cardamom Bay to pick up a takeaway after getting a leaflet through the post. The food was absolutely incredible and service was great when I arrived to collect it. Definitely found our new regular and excited to eat in the restaurant soon!

I honestly think that this is best Indian Takeaway in Bristol. The food is fantastic and there’s nothing I can comment on to improve the cuisine. Very authentic, great flavours and great price for what you get. A special mention to the staff, especially Naheed, who took care of us as soon as we walked through the door until the moment we left. Definitely coming here again and would suggest anyone reading this does as well!!

We had a fantastic experience at Cardemon Bay. The service was brilliant and they could not be more helpful. My partner and I got a takeaway but we were without cutlery. The manager kindly stepped in and saved the day and lent us her cutlery, The food was exquisite and was the best curry I’ve ever had in Bristol. Thank you so much. I would recommend to anyone!

An extremely and fantastic experience at this venue. Matty and I recommend the whole kit and caboodle here in North-west Bristol. Food is excellent and the staff are convivial and charming. It is definitely worth the travel time to enjoy the ambience. More power to Zo, Maddy and staff for continuing popularity.

Was in Cardamon Bays Indian restaurant tonight. Both Zoebb and Naheed (owners) went above and beyond to accommodate me my wife and our kids (a 5 year old and 3 year old) with curries to suit us. No need to worry about what to pick from the fantastic menu if you ask them what your fancy is. Let’s just say yet again x4 delicious curries for us and one was a vegetarian curry. Really nice as well with a Naan bread and popadoms (kids favourites)… and a cold beer on tap! Would I recommend Cardamon Bay to someone?! It’s a 110% yes what are you waiting for! They also do a takeaway service also which we have used many times which again cannot be faulted. Our families Favourite independent Indian curry Restaurant in Redland Bristol is a Gem.

Friendly host with excellent food. We had all vegetarian food with the sag aloo, paneer shaslik and an aubergine dish being the highlights. Perfectly spiced and flavoursome by the resident chef of 25 years. Definitely a curry house to keep going back to. Andy and NOCO.

Disappointed 😔 Poor service! Food was served cold and poor quality. We ordered champagne and they didn’t have an ice bucket. Bottled beer was warm.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. As I can't, I will instead (at length) explain why I hold Cardamom Bay, Redland, in the highest of respect and would recommend anyone in Bristol with even a passing interest in Indian food to visit. May my tale represent the 999,995 stars I was unable to give... On Friday I visited my friend Tom and en route passed Cardamom Bay. I asked if he'd ever been - yes he had and the orange chutney for the poppadoms was great. It was 9pm, we have a lust for life - I said we should just order some and go get them for a snack. Tom brought the menu up and we decided on 3 poppadoms and one of each of chutney. He wasn't sure what the orange chutney was called but it didn't seem to be listed, no bother though, we were sure it would be fine. Tom called them up. It was a small order - they asked if we wanted any curry or rice but we said we didn't need anything more than a snack. Oh some vegetable samosas then! Go on, you tease! They were happy to accommodate our silly order and said it would be 15 minutes. I shortly left to get the order and by the time I got to the restaurant it had been about 20 minutes... NOTE: warning here - this might sound like the staff did something wrong here. They didn’t. This is a dramatic apparatus - please read to the end. ...I perched by their opulently decorated bar and let the staff know I was here to collect my order. The guy seemed confused. A lady came over and asked what the order had been to which I reeled it off, acting not entirely impressed. By this point I was a little “come on guys”. You said 15 minutes, I gave you 20. You lost my order? Anyway, I didn't complain. I asked the lady if I should pop off for 10 minutes but she insisted they would have my order very quickly. After a couple of minutes I was asked how many dips we had ordered - 4, of course, one of each. I was offered a drink but didn’t need one, I’d probably had enough and to be honest, I was plenty entertained by the sound-reactive LED water ornaments displayed on the back bar responding to some Bollywood classics on the hifi. In no time, I was handed a bag filled with popadoms, chutneys and samosas. I had been given 3 of their signature orange dips as a bonus to apologise for the confusion. Very kind of them. These things happen. Anyway, turns out Tom had ordered from Cardamom Bay restaurant in Bognor Regis. He's a prat. Sorry. So much. We'll be back soon for a full curry, we owe you that at least. Oh and the orange dip is indeed really good.

1 star for customer service, 4 for food. Don’t order online! I ordered 1.5 hours before and came to collect and was told it would be 2 minutes. Unfortunately they clearly had not made the order so had to do it from scratch. This would have been ok if they had said, I could have drank a beer, or just come back later. Instead despite asking after 15, 20 and 25 minutes the food was always 2 minutes away. 2 hours later I had a decent curry.

Tastiest curry I've had in this price bracket & not greasy, but expect slow delivery if you order on a weekend which is why I marked them down. It was worth the wait though & I would re-order but allow extra time. Online tracker didn't update so it just said being prepared & tried to call but line constantly engaged. A little concerning for a first time customer.

We had an absolute brilliant meal at thls refurbished restaurant.. Every dish was amazing as was the hostess on the night.. I cant believe this has been on my door step through lock down and cannot wait to revisit it . Actually counting the days.. Keep up the great work and loved the lamb and Okra dish .. ! It's my local so somewhat biased, but the food is genuinely consistently lovely and I really like the staff - I have lots of choice around here, but I always go back when I fancy an Indian.

The biriyani was too oily , we started to feel sick . The potatoes were too big and too oily again . Bad food , not recommended.

Do not order from here if you want to eat within their displayed delivery time. Ordered and should have received our food eoth in the hour but waited over 1hr 30 when I rang to check where it was a couple of times, I just kept going told it was on its way, I was then told they were busy and the women then just hung up on me. Terrible service, I’ll never be ordering from here again!

Through lockdown we had pretty much given up on takeaways through deliveroo and Uber eats as often they were disappointing. Not the case with this takeaway last night. Ordered direct. Arrived piping hot and more quickly than anticipated. Really full of flavours and very tasty. Will definitely be back.

Fantastic. Ordered recently for the first time and was very impressed. Quick delivery and incredible food. Tasted fresh and fragrant, best indian food I've had in Bristol.

Decided to order a takeaway around 6.30pm Sat evening, noticed from the takeaway menu posted through our letterbox that this restaurant delivered and you could order online. Placed order and it was confirmed to arrive in 45mins. After an hour my husband called to find out what was happening, after several minutes where he was just left holding on the phone they eventually said the food had just left and would be with us soon. When it eventually arrived it was appalling...we ordered 4 popadoms only 2 were delivered. But worst of all the onion bhajis were burnt dark brown to black, you could smell the burnt oil. So my husband called them - he spoke to a women that said she owned the restaurant. She claimed that they had a new chef and all the bhajis had been checked and were fine and then went into great detail about the fact that they did not operated the online ordering platform and that we should have phone them directly to place the order as they get charged for orders through the platform! What this had to do with the poor quality of the food I'm not sure. My husband asked for a refund and then listened to another explanation of how long they had to wait to be paid for the online orders and we would have to wait for our refund, possibly days! we offered to bring the terrible food to the restaurant but she just wasn't interested. I do not hold out much hope of seeing out money again. We re-ordered from our local restaurant and collected it - should of gone there in the first place. NEVER ever use these people they have NO idea how to deal with customers and will keep your cash!

Food is as good as ever. Service can be a bit random, but always friendly. Decor is the worse for wear and the, er, restrooms are very retro...

Writing reviews is not usually my go to and I write this one with a heavy heart. My dad used to take me here when I was younger, so when it came to last minute booking for Valentines day, I knew that Lal Jomi was a good and strong option. A table for two and 6:30, We were the first there, and the staff couldn't find our booking. With that, I had to retrieve the email from my phone to "prove" we had booked. Both my partner and I have both worked in the restaurant industry, and things happen so we didn't even think twice. We were welcomed into the restaurant, find a nice booth and given the menus. We ordered our food and drinks quite promptly and the staff were lovely. We waited half an hour if not 40 mins for our food, which I think was perfect. My partners food was nice, the rice was a amazing. However, I had a watery Korma, which was a bit cold. I choose not to eat it, instead I stole a bit of my partners. When the waitress returned, I explained about my Korma, which she took back to the chef who agreed it was watery. At that point, they asked if I'd like another one cooked, my partner had already finished and our plates were being cleared away so I choose not too. With that, the waitress asked us if we'd like anything else and mentioned a cup of tea, Which weirdly, we both really wanted and ordered. We then started to notice that other tables around us seemed quite frustrated and a few angry people chasing there deliveries. After 15 minutes, the waitress returned to tell us its going to "take a little longer". Which was fine, we sat tight and watched the world go by. We did notice that the majority of the night we listened to the chorus of the phone constantly ringing. After another half hour of waiting, we flagged down a waiter to just ask how long we would be waiting for this cup of tea. This gentleman was brilliant and got strait on it. However, from start to finish we waited an hour for 2 cups of tea, quite ridiculous. We then asked for the bill, we noticed that the atmosphere of the place had changed, the staff seemed quite stressed and not all customers were enjoying themselves. It was almost like they just couldn't keep up. After waiting 20 minutes for the bill not to arrive and then for the waiter to ask if we had the bill he asked his colleague to do our bill. Low and behold after another 15 minutes it was nowhere to be seen. At this point, both my partner and I were actually quite annoyed, we just wanted to be able to pay and go. He then looked over for a third time and which was another 10-15 mins to which I said we still haven't got it. You could tell he was quite stressed and annoyed. The heartbreaking this for us, when we received the bill, we'd had be charged for everything at full price. Acknowledging they had poor service and the food wasn't up to scratch and yet we are still paying for it all. It is the first time in my life that I have had to say that I'm not paying for it all. The waitress apologised again, and took off the £10 for drinks. Which in the grand scheme of things, was a diet coke, pineapple juice and two teas's we waited an hour for. I still had to pay for a watery Korma. But that is all she "could" do. Repeatedly said "everything is fine". It wasn't fine. The food was poor, the service was poor and you're still expecting me to pay full price. We also noticed one of the curry;s was charged a £1 but we couldn't be bothered to argue. Once we had left and started talking about it in the car, it was just a really sad night and a real sad way to end Valentines day. However, the waiter in the green shirt, you did good! You listened to us, you didn't ignore us and made it a little better experience for us.

Visited this restaurant last night with my daughter. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The food was really excellent and served quickly. Will definitely return soon. .

Dreadful experience of take away. Food arrived over two hours late and missing many dishes. Was repeatedly told that food was “just leaving now” and “on its way”. Staff were uncooperative when I asked for a refund for the missing dishes. I will not be ordering again.

With the first Bristol SCS outing of the new decade coinciding with the new chairman’s inaugural meal, the visit to Lal Jomi was always destined to be a good one. The above notwithstanding, the Lal Jomi experience was sublime from start to finish. We were welcomed out of the chilly, January night air by two lovely ladies, both exhibiting an honest smile and jovial demeanour. They continued to wait on us hand and foot throughout the evening, refilling our glasses as soon as they approached dry and delivering the food in a timely fashion. We truly dined as if kings. Bar the hearty rendition of the Founding Father Hymn and some excitably delivered anecdotes, the atmosphere was hushed and cosy with some delightful ambient music that seemed to emanate from the painting of the beautiful young lady playing the sitar in the corner. We would like to convey our utmost compliments to the chefs. The starters were light and pleasant with several positive comments around the table for the Chicken Pakora and the Fish Tikka Starter. The fact that there was not a single grain or morsel left on the table is testament to the high quality of the mains, that were ordered primarily from the ‘Chef’s special dishes’ and ‘House special dishes’ sections of the menu. It would be remiss not mention the slight controversy over the Kashmir, based on the high banana content. Some of us loved it, others weren’t so convinced. As we left to make our way back to the pub for one last pint, it was evident in the smiles and laughter of all ten of us that we had been served a great meal in a fantastic establishment. Based on this we would whole-heartedly recommend Lal Jomi to all, curry connoisseurs or otherwise. Henceforth! ===================

Lal Jomi has now been under new management for a number of months,and as I can remember when this restaurant opened I can inform you that the quality and taste of the food is now back to a very high standard. As stated above it was that good that 10 of us (three families) decided to forget the usual Turkey and trimmings and go out for a Christmas Day Curry. The meal was as usual delicious. You will not find a better curry anywhere else in Bristol.

We used to eat here a lot about 25 years ago before we had children; and it was our favourite Indian Restaurant at the time - great food and excellent service. Last night a group of 10 of us turned up at the door at 12am, just after they had closed; but they reopened for us and served us an excellent meal. Even after 25 years, the food was still as good as I remembered and the service was even better 👍😁. Thank you 🙏.

Just had a terrible experience from their delivery service . Over 2 hours for One lamb madras . Then delivered to next door , even asked the driver if that was from the Lai Jomi ( as I was waiting by the door ), he said No . , was delivered by my neighbour !! Consequently stone cold . Disappointing .

We were staying in the area and were looking for somewhere to have a nice family meal. We booked a table online, early in the evening. The decor is unusual to see these days as more “Indian” restaurants have gone for a more modern feel, but it felt comfortable. The food was really good, full of flavour with the meat good quality and well cooked. The lamb, melted in your mouth. Service was not slick. I got the feeling this is a family operation with some of the staff not quite being aware what to do but we all have to start somewhere. Despite a little slip up the service was courteous without being obsequious. We were all very pleased with our meals and felt very satisfied. Thank you!

Not been here I a while so we thought we would have revisist to an old classic Bangladesh restaurant, it was nice and clean, we sat a booth which was great, I love the old style booths they have in restaurants gives you more privacy and you don't have other customers so close next to you, we went for a shami and shrek kebab starter both were great and good quality mince meat, for mains we had balti chicken tikka, a chicken tikka region Josh and a chi sag, all the currys were really tasty, there was great flavour and spices, all had really good quality chicken, we also added a keema nan, parata and stuffed parata, the nan was superb and the parata was great a real traditional parata, overall really friendly helpful staff, everything was served with a smile, the staff seem happy so I assume that they get to keep the tips. Would recommend this restaurant we will be back

Terrible place....took over 2.5 hours to deliver food....they then offered us free food next time we ordered, just tried to claim it and the DIDNT HONOUR IT - disgraceful service. Lady's name was Nadia who doesn't appear to work there now, will never use again, daylight robbers! Couldn't leave no stars!!! They shouldn't use just eat...avoid!!

I often have take-aways from here. Service is good, food very good.

We finally took the plunge and tried this place after walking past it 100 times. The decor is quirky and somewhat dated, but according to the owner will be refreshed soon. Our food was prompt to arrive and everything tasted great, especially the prawn Rogan Josh. The overall experience was a bit chaotic though; the staff were clearly struggling with the volume of take-away orders and the guests in the restaurant at times felt a bit abandoned. You can’t fault the friendliness of the new owner, however, who was chatty and lovely. We will definitely give them another try.

I've been here loads of times and the food is always nice. Plenty to choose from on the menu though being a fan of a bhuna or a saag, they tend to dominate my choices. A slight minus point is that I'm not a massive fan of what they've done to their naans lately - chopping them up into slices. Not that it affects the taste, but I just like a big slab of a naan!
