La Piazzetta in Southend-on-Sea

This is a little gem of an Italian restaurant. I cannot speak highly enough about the amazing food & superb service. Would definitely recommend it as the atmosphere is perfect for couples or groups.

My old Italian in Southend closed down (devastated) la cassetta hit and miss so I gave this a try. Little more than I spend usually so was praying it was good. Order came and looked pretty good and damn yes it was, absolutely banging. Only fault was I felt the lasagne was a little tomatoey needed bechamel but full of flavour and garlic cheese bread outstanding. Great portions which almost killed me to the point of bursting, Will order again for sure 👌

Stopped by on a spontaneous one on a walk and had the set menu 2 courses for £20ish… Food was amazing and great value considering Chicken and a massive serving of sea bass in a delicious tomato sauce. Staff were lovely also would recommend.

The food, service and atmosphere were above and beyond anything that we expected. We planned to have a quick main course then go on elsewhere for a drink. Ended up staying all night and will be back on a regular basis. The best Italian restaurant around by far. We will make this a regular night out.

Nice homely place for Italian food. I had the soup of the day which was very good and the Veal Milanese was tasty. My wife had the seafood pasta which she enjoyed. Overall a good experience. Definitely will go there again.

We went for a birthday party, it was a group of 10 with a baby (quiet as a mouse that slept the whole time). We had made previous reservations, so they were aware we were coming at 8. They took an hour to get our order (I had to inform them we were ready to order as no one approached us to take our order). We got some starters (a few bread dishes and a few others) my friend never got his. We were charged extra for asking for one of the tomato breads to be a bit spicy without informing us this would be an extra charge. They took absolute ages to get our meal out and this didn't happen until I, again, checked if our food was ready. We were only served at 10pm, whilst we had been at the restaurant for TWO hours. When we were served (most of it pasta dishes, how long does it take to boil pasta??) one of my friends was charged 3.45 extra as she asked for a bit of peperoni on her cheese pizza. She may as well buy the whole peperoni for this prize at the store! She was never informed about this extra charge. Same thing with spinach and broccoli. Must we indicate not everyone got their dish at the same time, half of the table still had to wait longer. Whilst we were eating, no one came to check on us or on how the food was. The quality was very normal, and the food wasn't even that hot. My friend ordered pasta with salmon and peas, and she got double the quantity of peas than of salmon. It looked that a green sea. We had to tell them again we were ready to pay as no one would approach us. Absolutely horrible service. We were starving by the time we were served and charged almost for even being there. Will not be coming back.

Good food main course. Salmon and Veal.: although sautéed potatoes were in fact just boiled sliced baby potatoes in a bit of oil. Not sautéed at all. Staff very nice . Busy service so after main meal , not really approached . House white wine very nice Had whitebait and bread with oil and balsamic for starters . Whitebait just about ok , breaded and a frozen product , at 8.95 a bit steep. The bread with oil and vinegar was awful. Supermarket Sliced brown bread . Some bits toasted , other bits just bread . Why? !. For this reason I wouldn’t return . Something so simple to get so very wrong. Coffee good quality

A beautiful evening, so on the off-chance I phoned and reserved an outside table for two at 6:15pm. The young waitress was charming and greeted us with a warm welcome. She was professional and attended our needs perfectly. Our starters were delicious, as were our substantial and tasty main courses. We also enjoyed a cocktail each afterwards, as we soaked up the sunshine and ambiance before the short stroll home. Great restaurant, which we're so lucky to have in the local vicinity.

Went tonight for my mums birthday and from start to finish this place was spot on! I had the Pollo Piazzetta and my Fiancée had the Pollo Valdostana. Both were very well presented, absolutely delicious and bursting with flavour! The staff were attentive, nothing was too much trouble and they even helped entertain the children at some points being an early dinner before it got too busy. This was much appreciated to help finish our food which everyone enjoyed. Great restaurant, great staff, great food and can't wait to return! Many thanks 😊

Had a really lovely meal here with my friends and partner for his birthday on Friday, from the the minute we walked in the staff was extremely warm and inviting, the decor was really different compared to any other Italian restaurant in the Leigh/Southend area and had a really nice feel about it. Cocktails were all amazing and they offered a large variety to choose from so we all had a selection before dinner. When the food came out everything felt so fresh and authentic everyone was so happy, I had the ravioli lobster and we also shared some different pizzas, the ravioli was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. We had coffees for after and were also very good quality. We had given the staff a cake beforehand to surprise my partner with so we could sing happy birthday at the end and the service was exceptional, they all gathered to sing happy birthday and encouraged the other tables to sing along as well and made the moment really special. All of us left extremely happy and all had an amazing night. 5 stars without a doubt !!

Cozy local restaurant for Chalkwell!

My partner and I recently went to La Piazzetta for an impromptu meal and we were very impressed. We have been previously on a couple of occasions and have always had a pleasant meal and evening, however this last visit was on another level entirely to the point that at the end of the meal we enquired if the restaurant was under new management (and it is). The food was sublime, my partner said the salmon tagliatelle was the most amazing pasta she’d eaten and the pizza was delicious, the atmosphere was friendly and the service quick. We will definitely be back.

Staff were pleasant and welcoming. The service was good and the food was tasty 😋 and the cost was very affordable! 3 of us drinking and eating for 3hrs and it cost less than 120 pounds. 40 pounds each. Thanks for a lovely evening 🥰😍🥰

Everything is amazing there: the food, the warm, mellow atmosphere, the service, the cleanliness etc etc. The location is 2 min walk from Chalkwell train station. Great for getting to have an amazing meal & fun time if you decide to drink from their bar as well!

Under new management, a family run restaurant with a very cosy atmosphere, excellent service, delicious variety of food to meet everyone's taste, a very large bar and a very clean place! The kitchen is immaculate and has an excellent chef and an excellent pizzaiolo! Opposite the restaurant there is small park, around where I park my car when going for dinner. The restaurant is 2 min walk away from Chalkwell train station as well.

Night out with my friends. We had an amazing dinner at La Piazzetta last week. The staff was very welcoming and nice to us. We had pizzas,tagliatelle lobster and Nutella cheesecake as a dessert which was delicious. I think the pizza was the best I ever had in a while and the tagliatelle lobster was amazing. They have a good selection of Italian wines too. I would highly recommend.

The menu is fabulous ! Offering a Sunday roast along side pizza and pasta , something for everyone . Lovely staff , very friendly. All our party left absolutely full and very impressed. Will definitely eat here again when back in the area .

I had my 60th birthday at the restaurant - almost 50 people. Tabita and Samuel the owners were fantastic, they were really helpful in organising everything and the the venue was perfect on the night. Thanks to all the staff for making it so enjoyable.

We came here for a pre Xmas meal, there was 6 of us and we ordered lots of drinks and food. Service was fabulous with a smile. Limoncello sprits was amazing. Food is so fresh and lasagne was one of the best I’d had. Will be coming back and recommending to all thankyou

i went on saturday night with my friend for a girly dinner, i opted for the monk fish wrapped in sarano ham, sides are chips or brocoli ? nothing else! Monk fish was wrapped in thick salty bacon it had so much salt i could not eat it! the sauce was thick and lumpy, my friend had salmon came out burnt! I personally would not go back it was such a let down.

We went on a really hot day 🥵 and no air con, 1 fan being shared , which was not ideal (but also felt for the staff in the kitchen) however the chef managed to bring us a fan, which we really appreciated. So the staff did go above and beyond to make our meal enjoyable and it was. So Thank you 😊

The menu says “all mains come with either broccoli or fries”. Ordered the fries. Was charged for them on the bill. Restaurant argued that Pollo Milanese already comes with a side (the pasta) so you don’t actually get fries or broccoli with it. A) menu doesn’t say anything of the kind B) who in earth claims the pasta is a side in Pollo Milanese, it’s literally the dish.

Have been to La Piazetta loads of time over the past couple of years with friends and family, and we have always had a lively meal and great service. A few times we used Groupons which made it great value. Now that this option is no longer available due to change of management we decided to try another local Italian restaurant this weekend. Wow what a mistake that was. It was absolutely not in the same league as La Piazetta and we left feeling very disappointed and after spending over £130 we felt a bit ripped off too. We haven't visited since the new management took over, but if they have retained the original chef then we have learned our lesson and will DEFINITELY be back soon. La Piazetta is far superior to La Pizzaria in Westcliff even though their reviews seem to all be five star, we could only give three. Sorry La Piazetta, hope we'll be forgiven.

We ate here a few months ago and the food and atmosphere was amazing. Returned with a groupon voucher which was bought for us as a gift and the staff wouldn’t accept it, even though our table was booked via groupon! I ordered the same dish as before but it was bland. Unfortunately we wouldn’t return again.

Horrible experience. We came all the way from Basildon to have relaxing meal on a Friday evening when they told us that it is a new management and don't accept groupon vouchers anymore. There was no warning nothing because it was the 2nd time I...

First time out with our newborn and wanted somewhere easy and relaxed which is what we got with the added bonus of great food! Really nice atmosphere the staff were really friendly highly recommend.

First thing that I noticed that were new faces maybe new owner, the only think that I can say that service was slow food was blant and to be honest my first visit was very disappointing.

Been coming here once a week for a while as it’s a quick fix on the doorstep. Foods always been nice and on a summers evening, you can really feel that you are in an authentic Italian. When we walked in some narrow minded customers were complaining to the new owners about a group-on deal being cancelled and threatening that they’d never come back. After getting into a conversation with the couple who had taken over, we were told about the previous owner discontinuing a Group-on deal with no notice to customers. I appreciate it’s unfortunate that people cannot exercise a voucher but this couple couldn’t be more accommodating, showing people how to apply for a refund on the app etc. I would remind people how hard this industry has been hit and that, in times like this we should be supporting small local businesses. Especially, one of the only Italian restaurants that is run by real Italians in this area.

Management has changed last week (May 2023) and I just had a bad experience in trying to validate a groupon voucher that I bought - understand new management means new policy and I actually completely understand that they won’t honour it. But their customer service...

I go to this restaurant regularly but got charged £9 for a glass of Prosecco. Is this right OR was it a mistake?

there was so much sauce just put on top after so all topping just fell straight off, the pineapple wasn’t even chopped up, it was clearly from a tin and just dropped on in 3 rings. my boyfriends pizza was undercooked and there was a massive ball of mozzarella just in the middle which leaked all of the water from the mozzarella on to the pizza and made it soggy

Visited using a Groupon voucher. Very good value for money and really tasty food with great portion sizes.

Dinner for two with a few drinks, two starters, 2 mains and one desert cost us £65. Honestly the food was top quality, really enjoyed my meal and would gladly return.

Another great meal again but never see the same staff and this shows when redeeming a Groupon voucher took 3 attempts to get it right but got there eventually still a nice bit of food and pleasant atmosphere
