DO NOT BOOK WITH LA BELLE. They sent out a notice to all bookings at the end of May that they were shutting down operations and that the website would be completely unavailable as of June 15th. We had our elopement dinner booked with a chef through them that we were then scrambling to find an alternative for. In the meantime, we requested a refund. After a nightmare of going back and forth over a dozen times with them, with no responses or vague responses with no follow through, I was finally able to get the refund processed- but they kept their booking fee. They decided to send out an email on June 8th- 3 days after they have disabled their website for users to manage their bookings- that they had decided they could maintain operations. But by that point, we’d already managed to book the same chef through another platform. I’ve now requested them to refund the booking fee multiple times, but they claimed they could still meet the booking so they didn’t have to, and I’ve already told them that’s not possible since that chef isn’t available to them on that night since we booked him elsewhere. They are no longer responding to any messages I’ve sent requesting the remaining balance. This business practice is completely unacceptable and untrustworthy. Do not risk your event with this shady business.

Disappointed in this year's experience; the quality of the food was ok but not to the standard you would expect for New Year's eve. Compared to last year, this chef didn't bring any of his pots and pans and used all of ours, which coincidentally were brand new and ended up burnt. The chef was very dismissive when I asked him to be careful with some of the surfaces or crockery and cutlery that can't go in the dishwasher, which meant I had to keep on going back to the kitchen to check on him and pick up oily bottles he would leave here and there. When I raised this, along with a couple of other issues, with LBA, they told me to raise it with my insurance! Very unhelpful and unbelievable from a business towards a repeat customer. We won't be using LBA or recommending them going forward, hence the review. The food was ok but I would say pretty average for a private chef, it was more what you would expect in an average pub, definitely not the "Michelin type" experience we were promised.

Gabor is an amazing chef, we cannot praise him highly enough! It was a surprise for my 70th birthday, organised by my daughter and enjoyed by 6 family members. The courses were imaginative, delicious and Gabor put in all the extras that made it so special. He introduced all the dishes and clearly loves cooking and presenting food. He also left the kitchen spotless! Wonderful evening, thank you.

THE WORST experience EVER! The chef arrived drunk, continued drinking, shouting and swearing at his staff so loud all my guests heard! The food was inedible and no one could eat any of it! It was not as described/agreed and looked like cat food. He wrecked my kitchen and saucepan, broke my best glasses, the most embarrassing experience ever!

The chef and the meal was excellent, (Gio) , HOWEVER I paid £99 for a waiter as there were 11 of us, - no waiter arrived, and poor Gio said the company should have called me. It resulted in some of the younger guests clearing the table as he was obviouslyy struggling to cook and serve 11 people . The following day I called the company , and they just said they would pay me the £99 back, and blamed the chef as 'it was his responsibility'. On contacting Gio, he was astounded, In his words, 'I am just the chef' - I then contacted the company and suggested they refunded the £19 booking fee as well as we had NOT received the service we had booked, The girl ws very offhand and I said I would not recommend La Belle Assiette again, at that point she said she would ask the directors. I had a call back and they said they had creidted my account for £30! JOKE! Especially as I had said I would not use theur company ever again. I would stress we could not fault Gio as a chef, and luckily we had family for a birthday celebration, It would have been very embarrasing had it been a formal meal. The lovely Gio is very upset, and has offered to refund me the £19 personally, which , of course I dont want

Hiring a private chef is an excellent proposition. Not only does one, usually, get an excellent meal, but they also take care of all the preparation and clearing up which means there is more time for the guests to enjoy each others company. I do understand, having done this several times, that there is an element of risk involved, and this is perhaps reflected in the reviews below. In other words, there can be angst about "will the chef show up?" and/or "will they provide what we want?" We were renting a barn conversion in deepest rural Shropshire, from the National Trust and were a family group of 6, including 2 of us in the UK from the US where we live. As you can imagine, we don't get together very often and so we splashed out and reserved chefs for 2 nights of our stay, Fabio and Georgi, and picked too very different, but 7 course meals. Suffice it to say, both chefs were truly excellent. The meals they prepared were sumptuous, fabulously presented and timely. Really everything we could have hoped for. It is a joy to have a meal cooked in front of you and judging by these two chefs, La Belle Assiette has an excellent cadre of providers on their books. Both of our chefs had over 20 years experience cooking in restaurants, and both flew solo on these assignments, so it is a busy four hours or so for them and they coped admirably. Any down sides? Nothing worth complaining about. The communication with one of the chefs could have been better, there wasn't much in the way of confirmation from him until very close to the evening, which occasioned some of the aforementioned stress but all was well. Obviously you don't know what sort of personality you are going to get with your chef, and this is a profession with notoriously volatile personalities but both of our providers were very friendly and helpful but somewhat taciturn during service especially, when they were, of course, extremely busy. We would definitely use this company again. The variety of chefs on offer and the quality of the food that we were provided were outstanding. I do suggest you get hold of your chosen chef and push them to keep in contact and confirm, as a lack of contact beforehand can be worrisome. I also guess that communication outside of a kitchen may not be every chef's forte, so it does pay to keep on top of them. All in all, especially considering we booked both of these meals less than 10 days out, a truly outstanding experience that actually was a centerpiece of our trip. Will definitely use them again.

I'd not considered booking a chef before, but when it came to throwing a big birthday party this really was a great thing to do and allowed a big group to dine in style and not worry about organising childcare etc. Highly recommend booking a chef to make a big event extra special.

On the 5th January this year after much research I booked and paid for a chef to cook a special birthday meal for my family and I to celebrate my 60th birthday this coming July. Via the website I liked my chosen chef and his menu. Then when my credit card statement arrived I noticed that my transaction was classed as a ‘cash transaction’. Subsequently, I was charged a cash transaction fee by credit card company as though I had taken cash out of a cash point machine. I then queried this in February with La Bella Assistte who asked me to provide proof which I duly done. Several telephone calls and emails later, with the final email being delivered in May I gave up chasing as I had no satisfactory replies and doubts about this company began to surface. Also, I wanted to look forward to my birthday meal and not get mired in stress about £36! Then, in early July with two weeks before my 60th birthday I contacted La Bella Assitte to ask if the chef could contact me regarding my booking. Having not been contacted by either La Bella Assitte or the chef in seven months. After three days, and no reply from La Bella Assitte I traced my chef’s contact details via Google. To my concern, yes, he had a booking on my birthday but not MY booking! He even claimed, before he realised a double booking had occurred that he had spoken to me about my celebration meal! He hadn’t. In fact, he didn’t even know the time & location of my meal although he did guess Surrey correctly! I asked him if I could email him my menu, location and numbers attending and he promised to text me his email address. As you can imagine by this time my stress levels were at max as I knew this was probably going to end badly. No text arrived. I texted the chef instead but nothing. Then, for the first time since January someone actually contacted me from La Bella Assistte to advise me that my chosen chef was unavailable to cook my 60th birthday meal! They then offered me a replacement chef which was not acceptable. In fact, against a backdrop of appalling customer service I wanted nothing more to do with this company except to retrieve my nearly £900. that I had paid in good faith seven months ago! This has been a terrible exercise in customer service. Feeling let down does not even begin to describe how I and my family feel. How can a company that specialises in celebratory occasions let a customer down so badly? Also, when did THEY know the chef was double booked and why was it left to myself to play detective And find this out for myself? Where was the customer support in all this? After all, They had my money. Sadly, what should have been a wonderful family celebratory occasion and a meal of a lifetime, has become an occasion that has only brought sadness and stress. Thankfully, I have my money returned but I’d much rather have had a wonderful birthday meal surrounded by my family in a wonderful location, cooked by a chef that I chose and paid for seven months ago!

Our chef and waitress made our evening that bit extra special. The chef accommodated all of our dietary needs perfectly and our food was delicious. My first experience of using a private dining service and I will definitely do it again. Thoroughly recommend La Belle Assiete very helpful and quick response in the booking process with any questions - excellent!

- I paid over £550 for a meal I never received! We booked Georgi for a Friday night for my wife’s birthday (party of 6) but unfortunately, I tested positive for Covid 58 hours before Georgi was supposed to come and cook for us. Being honest (I guess I shouldn't have been), I let Grace know at their office at 9am on the Wednesday morning and whilst I stated we did not want to cancel, just merely postpone the meal until I had recovered, she said she would have to treat it as a cancellation. This meant I would only get back 20% of the meal costs and would also be a credit on my account and not a refund. Why would I do that and then spend another £400 with the company to get a second meal when I didn’t even receive the first one? Georgi said he was still happy to cook for us at our house despite me having Covid but I felt that I didn’t want to put our other guests at risk (as one person was in a high risk category) and Grace at my request kindly agreed to move the venue to one of our friends, instead of ‘cancelling’ and loosing 80% of our money. I did however think it was a degree irresponsible of the chef if he had turned up and I exposed him to Covid. What if I had given him the virus and then he went onto other guests the next night? I would suggest in the current climate think very carefully before booking with this company as whilst their cancellation terms are clear they are too restrictive. Sometimes there has to be a degree of fair flexibility or compromise. I appreciate ingredients and time needs to be allocated (and I would have been happy paying a rebooking fee) but an 80% loss of money, especially when I requested a postponement not a cancellation, is an excessive and unfair policy. As for the food, I can’t tell you as I never got to eat any on the night, but our friends said it was okay. NEVER use again and a real shame that a company is too short sighted to engage in good customer service in order to help expand its business.

Really brilliant dinner at home booked only about 10 days in advance. We were put in touch with the chef after looking at a few options and then discussed the menu and numbers of people. Kasia, the chef turned up about an hour and half before dinner, prepared everything including setting the table and serving cocktails. Her assistant served dinner and the two of them then cleared up. It was immaculate after they left. Such a great way to enjoy an evening with friends without all the bother and at a reasonable price. It has given another dimension to our home as the dining room May now get used!

We engaged Chef Holly Sugars through La Belle Assiette for a fine dining birthday celebration with Friends and I was not disappointed. The food was fabulous and as I have a food intolerance of garlic eating out is difficult for me as everything always contains garlic! Holy cooked garlic free braised lamb shank and dauphinoise potatoes, proving you don't need garlic for a truly epic meal! The food was wonderful and I really relaxed and enjoyed my evening as I wasn't rushing around the kitchen. Worth every penny - and of course no taxi home needed and I could buy wonderful wine without the restaurant mark up

Told exactly at the time the chef was meant to arrive this they had cancelled, this has ruined a 60th birthday. Why could you not have told us early? Horrific support over the phone, no sincere sorry. Very surprised because so many good reviews but actually they do not care and aren't apologetic at all. I'm sure we will get a following message to say " we are very sorry and contact us" I feel like we should be compensated, being excited for weeks with a surprise like this only to be told exactly when we expect them to knock on the front door that they are not coming. We'll done (clap clap) you have out done yourself. Cannot just be use, I'm sure there will before bad reviews to come.

We ordered a chef through this company to cook a 3 course meal for my dad's 60th birthday. They were due to arrive at 6pm and instead we recieved a phone call to tell us that due to personal reasons he was no longer coming and there was nothing else they could offer us. My dad's 60th is ruined and the company have done absolutely nothing about. The full amount has already been paid!!! And no refund can be arranged until Monday. Absolutely disgusting service. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EVER!!

We booked a chef to cook and a waiter for my mother in laws 70th for Saturday night. It was a bloody disappointment. The chef was meant to arrive 2 hours prior to the start at 7, he had previously changed the start time as he said he had to travel 1hr and 30min. He then changed the arrival time to 1 hour to prep. We were having slow roasted lamb, so how that can be cooked in 1 hour. On the night 6 came and went, then at 6.30 I tried to call the booking company, but they are closed and only work 9-5 Monday to Friday, so I got an automated message my only option was to leave a message. I then tried to contact the chef. I got a message backe saying could I send a drop pin as he was lost. I did. This was now 6.45, I got a message saying he was stuck in mud, so we went out to find him. We did, the first thing he asked was did we want to cancel, I said no. As we couldn't get hold of the company, I wasn't sure that if I cancelled then we would lose everything. I asked him if he was still okay to provide the service, or did he want to cance, he said no. He then asked me about 4 times, if I wanted to cancel which sent off alarm bells. I just though, it would be a late start, so he may be here longer. Also his car was stuck so I contacted the owner of the cottage we were staying in to see if they had room, or knew of any B&Bs. We also asked who the farmer of the track was, to help with the car. We arrived back at the cottage once we had found them at 7.45pm got asked again if we want to cancel, we said it would probably be best to carry on with the night. The meal was fast, all pre prepared, it was more like pulled lamb that the chef warmed up. The meal started at 8pm he was finished and cleared up by 9pm. We had barely finished one course before the next was put in front of us. The food was okay and well presented, I will say that. The waiter just stood there and I had to keep telling him to fill glasses. That was all he did during the hour. During the meal I was gathering contact details of taxis, b&bs, the farmer and forwarded onto the chef. He did nothing. At 9 he said can you take me to the B&B and we will see if they have a room. So, luckily my son doesn't drink so said he would take them to the B&B, we got there no rooms available. We then had to find somewhere and drove them to the nearest travel lodge, 30 mins away. So an hour round trip. The company have offered £102 credit to be used at our next booking, yes sure, like we will ever use this company again. So I don't feel a)£102 is enough compensation, I was expecting 40% taking into consideration the fact we drove him around to find a B&B etc. Also not a credit note, this was a one off special treat for a special occasion. Also after this disaster, I would never use them again, the lack of support on the night and since made sure of this.
