La Bakerie in Redbridge

I normally get coffee, a veg sandwich and something sweet usually however Was quite disappointed to see the lady who was handling sandwiches, bread and cakes touching everything bare hands at first I was like it’s fine if her hands are washed in between each handle but she was not washing in between she went from touching all different meat/ veg sandwiches with her bare hands and then to picking up cake slices with her barehands then to a loaf of bread to be sliced. All that cross Contamination was too much to see and I don’t know how she was not wearing gloves with each item she is handling or being told by someone or to even use tongs to pick up food. As someone who eats halal but veg from a non halal restaurant can’t be eating here any longer but this also applies to vegetarians and if they cater to vegans too. Otherwise staff and the environment is lovely can’t fault them. I’m sadden the handling of food is not up to standard and can no longer eat here unless changes are made.

Just had a hot chocolate and a croissant danish. I found 2 hairs in the inside. So naturally I reported it to the waitress who just replied saying “ok” and then just walked away. Quite disappointed with the hygiene levels but more disappointed with the response to the issue. As I walked out, the owner/manager just looked at the contaminated food and decided not to say anything. At least acknowledge the issue!

Lovely cafe at High Street. Available indoor seats and few tables outdoor. Lots of cakes and bakeries to try. The staffs were very polite too.

The bakery is great and has visually lots of yummy options (I’ve not tried them all). The sourdough bread is my favourite. i would however like to raise gloves! I’ve noticed several times staff do not change their gloves after touching meat, or after touching phones etc. please take this point into consideration. Gloves are used for a reason..

Without a shadow of doubt this is the go to place in Wanstead High Street for bread, cakes, sandwiches and savory tarts. However having recently tried their salads I can say they are superb. Beautifully constructed often with an unusual combination of ingrediants they are mouth watering. Try the one featuring water melon. Superb! I understand Fatima is the member of staff responsible. She's a treasure. Mind you the other staff are also great. Well worth a visit.

I love La Bakery, their bread is delicious and freshly baked everyday in Wanstead. In addition, I had a celebration in my house, I asked them if they could prepare a selection of quiches and salads for my party. My friends were so impressed, everything was absolutely delicious! Especial mention to Fatima, every single salad she prepares is mouth watering, even with ingredients and combinations, that my friends were not quite sure about, they were completely converted, loved, loved their salads. Thank you La Bakery 😀

My husband and I have frequented La Bakerie since we use to live in Snaresbrook and have seen it transform over the years— from a great little coffee spot & bakery to one of the best in East London (IMO). The pastries and baked goods have always been fresh and above par, the coffee is excellent, and their sandwiches, toasties, and quiches’ are by far some of the best I’ve ever had since living in East. We love to frequent La Bakerie when our days off fall on the same day, and it’s never a disappointment. Not to mention, the staff have always been super courteous and spot on in customer service. And it’s lovely to see the owner from time to time interacting with his staff and other customers, he seems like a genuine, lovely, chap. This spot has great prices and a lovely, clean, bright atmosphere. Worth the visit and every penny!

Me and my wife have been coming to this coffee shop for the past 11 years and we think that this is the best coffee shop in East London. The food is delicious and we love the carrot cake it is our favourite. The tea and coffee is done very well. Sadly based on the reviews, this coffee shop is very underrated, I’m not sure why the reviews are lower than some other coffee shops in the area which are not as good as this one.

A welcoming staff, pretty enviroment and exeptional food. La bakerie is really the perfect place for a nice breakfast. Autentic italian cappuccino, and all sorts of sweet treats for a deliceus breakfast, moderate prices (for the standards of London) and the best brownie I ever had are all reasons why this surely won't be the last time i come here.

Really, really, really good stuff going on here. Very friendly service. The lady serving us was very helpful and seemed very happy which is nice. The fruit brioche was banging! The strawberries were delicious and the brioche was light and fluffy. The carrot cake is wonderful, not too sweet, light and the frosting was well balanced. The ham and cheese croissant, bangin! The cinnamon swirl was wicked, not the best I’ve had but it was really good. The fruit tarts are really good, I love the fact that all the fruit is seasonal and brings freshness to the pastries. Everything was fresh and that’s something that stands out very much. I recommend any and everyone to try something from here. Lovely little place lovely people outstanding pastries. I’ll be back!

Very welcoming staff, great food and amazing service by the tall gentlemen at the coffee station today as I was requesting a lot with my coffee order and he fulfilled my order with no hesitation.

Very unprofessional. Got a coffee instead of tea and paid more than I should have, to which barista said - it’s okay, it’s only a 40p difference. As if she’s the one who paid for it. It’s not ok. Awful!

We come in here for the excellent coffee and always admire the cakes. I bought for the first time this very special cake for mother’s day and just had to put a review on to say without doubt the best chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted. It doesn’t just look good. It tastes even better. It is so light and delicious. That chocolate ganache is heavenly. Thank you so so much 💓

We had two lattes and sat there for ahout 10 mina only, then one of the staff made a fuss just because I kindly asked for a bowl of hot water to warm my baby milk. Not baby friendly, for sure.

This used to be one of my favorite cafes in Wanstead, however this is no longer the case after my visit last week. I spent £8.50 on coffee and cakes and sat at the only table available then took my laptop out. After around 5 mins the owner aggressively approached me waving his hands and says 'This is not a laptop place'. He tells me I need to sit at another table with other people as I'm taking up too much space. I responded that I'd spent nearly £10 not even 5 mins ago and the 4-person table was the only one available and could he please leave me in peace. I said I didn't want to sit with people I didn't know and once I'd spent my money I was free to do as I pleased as long as I wasn't being antisocial. He said he could tell me what to do and where to sit as it is his business and invited me to leave telling me I was barred and not to return. I get that some people sit in cafes for a long while without buying anything but this man was irrational and aggressive. He should at the very least be observing his customers before accosting them and apologise when he is clearly in the wrong. So much for trying to support local businesses.

I regularly buy from this bakery and will continue to do so, but it needs improvement. Given it’s expensive there’s no excuse for putting out stale pastries. At least mark them as from previous day and lower the price so people can choose. This has happened frequently.

La Bakery is my go-to spot, and my husband always finds something he loves. The cakes are my absolute favorite, and I'm quite picky about sweets. The variety and flavors they offer never disappoint. The quality is consistently excellent, making every visit a delightful experience. It has become a sweet tradition for us, and I highly recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth.

This is a place I have been to a few times normally while visiting for the farmers market. It's a small bakery/cafe with a wide selection of baguettes/toasties/cakes and coffee. It has a small seating area in the back and some seats outside but as it was raining we headed inside as per usual it was busy but that's because it does great food but we still had space to sit near the back. You order what you want at the till and we went for a tomato mozzerala baguette and a croquie monsoir alongside a bowl of mushroom soup and some coffees with a couple bottles of sparkling water it came to £25 which is not bad at all. The food was brought over by 1 of the great people who work there and everybody is always very friendly polite and provide great customer service. We started with the soup which was brilliant tasty full of flavour and a nice mushroom cream taste which comes with a slice of there own bread on the side. This was a great start. Then my croque monsouir (probably spelling it wrong) was great it tasted fresh full of tasty cheese and ham it didn't taste stale which can happen in cafes when they are sat out. The baguette was also brilliant great flavour nice touch of pesto and tasty tomatoes. The coffees again great tasting coffee to be honest there is nothing I can add to all the food or drinks except for great. It's the perfect place on a cold winters day to go in warm up and eat some tasty warming food. Or even just for a takeaway treat. While your there buy a loaf of bread you won't be disappointed.

Fancy pants bakery in Wanstead. The cakes are gorgeous. Belgique and the Barrel boulanger have serious competition. Baguettes selection was slim but the chicken was tasty.

Came her on a weekday for lunch and grabbed a vegan sandwich, a packet of crisps and some water. There was quite a bit of vegetables including in the sandwich but strangely there wasn’t a great deal of flavour, so the taste wasn’t particularly great. The bread wasn’t fresh either. Add to that the whole meal to eat in set me back almost a tenner, so this wasn’t really value for money. The setting of the café is nice, however. Spacious with lots of lighting and impressively designed. I did find the service was a little cold too - not rude or anthing, but not friendly either.

Love the sandwiches, cakes, pastry and coffee from here. Always excellent.

Really enjoyed a latte with apple almond cake. Great ambience and great food. Actually ordered to stay in but they packed my cake to take away. When I mentioned the minor error, my server gave me complimentary madelines! Very thoughtful and good customer service. Will drop by again when visiting London. Stale & smelly cheesecake .. first time got a cheesecake from this place and it smelled bad as soon as took out the wrapper.. but still went ahead to taste myself and my husband, we both ended up spitting it.. disappointed

What a fantastic bakery. The food, coffee and friendly service are fantastic! My friends and I still think the quiche is the best we've ever had, so make sure you try it out!

We've tried quite a few of their sweet selections and every single one has been amazing. I ordered 2 cakes for a little celebration at work today, Fabien the owner was super helpful and friendly and the two cakes are perfect. I almost never write reviews, but I truly want to give a 5-star for this local bakerie. One more thing, their almond croissants are one of a kind.

Absolutely love coming to La Bakerie. I have enjoyed countless conversations with Fabien the owner. The desserts are fantastic. I would put a review each time however only allowed one. The bakery has ample of space. It feels warm and welcoming. I enjoy sitting in the back as you can look down into the kitchen and watch the bakers do their work. The smell of the fresh bakes is awesome. Highly recommend a visit here. There is parking behind on Grove Road, Wanstead. Ringo app. 7107. 1 hour £1.60.

Great vibe, great quality coffee and treats!

Headline - avoid if you are looking for a quiet place to work and rude owner who seems to upset customers. I had an unfortunate experience today. I have been going here for years and today the owner had a problem with me bringing a laptop in the cafe and sitting on a particular table. I ended up moving to a smaller table to appease him since he said he doesn't like laptops around too much and I had sat at too big a table (the reason for this is that's the first table I saw and it was at the back and quiet and near the loo as well so not taken), although another person was there with a laptop who he had no problem with. I'm a professional who works from home and the local coffee shops are a go to for me. I paid for a drink but ended up leaving it half drunk because I felt really uncomfortable. I'm not sure how a customer who has paid for a drink should be made to feel bad about bringing a laptop in the premises, when there are no rules about this written anywhere and no other customers have a problem with it. I would suggest local professionals go to Gail's instead or the Larder or any other coffee venue in the local area. They are far more accommodating and polite. Disappointing and rather upsetting behaviour to a customer who has spent hundreds of pounds here with her friends and family over the years, supporting the small business. I may go again as I do like the food and the other staff there who make me feel welcome - it's a shame that an owner would treat a customer in such a way though. Just to add I went to Gail's instead after for my coffee instead and mentioned what happened and they were shocked to hear of the behaviour and said very genuinely that I am welcome with my laptop anytime and were surprised that a business would make customers feel this way. I guess the point is - 1. Either advertise that you don't accept people with laptops or 2. Welcome all customers equally. Gails agreed that I should post a review - people who WFH and utilise coffee shops are loyal customers in this area who go to coffee shops for their wellbeing and not to be told off by owners after they've paid for a drink. If the owner tries to deny this behaviour or gaslight - please kindly review the 1 star reviews on this page, it looks like many people have commented about how rude the owner is.

I was a regular customer. The previous owners were very friendly and provided a high quality service. However, with the recent ownership/management change, the quality of service has gone down. I have been unable to get some of the baked goods I used to purchase recently as it's no longer well stocked. Reply to owners reply. Yes, this is the right place on Wanstead High Street next to British Heart Foundation. There was a French lady and chef who ran the place previously and knew me, but they jabe left and with them the quality of service went down. The new owner/manager can't even afford a smile. I have previously left a really good review from a different email but same name.

Lovely Bakery with a good selection of pastries, cakes and filled rolls. Great hot chocolate and good coffee. Friendly staff and quick service. Perfect for a snack or lunch after walking the dog 🐕. They open at 7.30 AM so also perfect after an early morning run or on the way to the station.

Best Vegan Chocolate & Raspberry cake I ever had! Excellent high quality and made with care. You can preorder in advance ie Birthday Vegan Cake. Staff are super friendly and attentive. This is a proper patisserie like in the old days which are very rare to find. Super good value as well, my vegan cake was huge! 100%

Pros: Tasty food (especially the croque monsieur), good coffee. Cons: Reheated food not heated enough. Chocolate eclair filled with chocolatey cream (i.e. not cream) instead of fresh cream. Disappointing. Expensive, especially if eating in (add about 50p per item). On balance, I've eaten here a few times and probably will do again, however I will avoid the chocolate eclair unless they do it right ;-)

Walked past this place many times and decided to go for a afternoon treat. The owner/ patisserie chef was very friendly. The desserts are delicious. Shame they close rather early.

place is nice. no issues, but they don't allow dogs inside (not even small and well behaved like my Milou!). No rational argument to do so. Bad practice.

Nice patisserie but coffee ridiculously and prohibitively expensive. £3.90 for a small iced oat milk flat white, which was mostly ice, is a rip off.

La Bakerie’s products are outstanding! Fabien and his team can create amazing cakes for all occasions. I am always impressed with freshness, quality and care of pastries and cake I buy from there.

The triple chocolate brioche is to die for, and my toddler’s favourite treat is a madeleine from La Bakerie. Fantastic coffee, too!

I am a sweet lover and I tried a lot of bakeries/patisserie in Europe. I can say that the quality of the sweets worth the price. The location was nice, if you would like to relax with a good coffe and sweet treat this is the right place for you. Recommended.

Just been in and had a delicious couple of hot drinks and pastries. Lovely fresh baked goods coming out of the kitchen too. Staff friendly and nice music! High quality bakery shop with a wide selection of baked items and hot drinks. Nice ambience and pretty spacious. The baked good were of a very high quality and so was the tea and the hot chocolate. The flat white was very good, but I found the beans a bit flat (but this is on a spectrum of them being very good). Overall, would recommend but it’s pricey; for example, £7 for a quiche and I suggest it should have a side salad or some garnish.

Excellent selection and croissants are a delight the cakes look delicious slightly expensive but worth every penny.

I go here at least once a week for their almond croissant. I have tried other almond croissants but nothing beats La Bakerie’s. It leaves no strange after taste like others can. The sprinkle of icing sugar on top adds to the yumminess.

Every high Street should have one of these, great cakes and epic coffee.

Nice cute little coffee shop in wanstead high street. Being a few times as local and their coffee is always quite nice as so their bakery section although quite pricey for what it is.

The staff are always lovely and very attentive.

It is really bad customer service, we came here couple of weeks ago and there was a waitress that was really rude. Today, we ordered breakfast and toast was really hard and even worse is the barrister making it. She spoke too fast and refused to give me all my order together, she gave me toast as hard as a brick. She did not care if i was happy with it or not. Quite a Spanish accented big girl. The only reason why i am giving these two stars is because of a Chinese waitress and guy wearing a hat and with a tattoo. They were really good. However, overall coming here twice, my experience has been bad in this place. Spending £17 on breakfast to have a hard toast. Not on.
