This is one of the best places to eat in Fife! Everything was perfection! Very reasonably priced for the food and the experience! Staff were extremely kind and hospitable! I have an allergy also, which staff were incredibly mindful too! Thank you! Go to Koku Shi ♥️

Once my favourite place to eat in town, but now it's safe to say I won't be back. I've ordered takeaway a few times before and never has my order been correct. I visited the restaurant a few months back and as nice as it looked inside the service was disorganised and the meals came out at separate times from a few of my friends. I decided to treat my friend to a koku shi takeaway as a thanks for looking after my dogs while away. An order well over £80, not your average take away price but meant to be worth it for the choice of cuisine. I was hesitant due to the number of times my order had been wrong in the past. The food was ready late and surprise surprise the order was wrong. Items missing, tofu where there was meant to be duck, ramen broth quite simply warm red water. Called the restaurant and was offered a discount on my next visit. Sad to say I'll not be using it. Was always class when Jerzy was in running the kitchen but it's not been good in there for quite some time. Should have learned my lesson after the last few experiences, I have now.

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant recently with my wife and son and it overcome my expectations. The sushi was amazing fresh, perfectly rolled, and beautiful looking. My son loved the boat we also tried the karaage, which was great. Pad Thai prawn had bit bigger noodles but very good in test . The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was good however would enjoy more Japanese vibe I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

My family had the worst dining experience of our lives. Despite what we saw on Google, they don't actually have a kids' menu. The lady at the counter kindly offered to make a smaller version of their noodle dish for my 5-year old daughter, but it was so spicy she couldn't eat a single bite. We ordered a salmon avocado California maki, which the menu stated contained only salmon, avocado, and sesame seeds. Instead, it came with no sesame seeds but was slathered in mayo and chili sauce. I don't eat chili and would never have ordered it if I'd known. My husband got a tofu salad with a choice of lemon or teriyaki sauce. He wasn't asked which he wanted, so they gave him teriyaki, which was sickeningly sweet. The presentation of the dishes was pathetic, with a few sad salad leaves thrown on the plate. The background music was irritating pop songs, completely ruining any chance of a Japanese restaurant atmosphere. When we asked for the bill and complained about the food, the attendant reported it to the person in charge, who never even bothered to speak with us. They gave us a measly 10% discount on the cheapest dishes, a grand total of £1.40 off! I couldn't recommend this place less.

The food was very fulfilling, and very tasty. The service was quick and l, when mistakes were made, they were very apologetic about it. Also, we got to meet our server's son (who, by the way, is a very kind gentelman). The atmosphere was very good, however the music I felt did not suit the atmosphere, and was very expensive. Overall, amazing restraunt, will be returning when in town!

Kokushi, owned and run by the amazing Jerzy, is truly a gem in the world of dining. As a loyal customer since its opening 8 years ago, I have been consistently blown away by the passion and creativity that Jerzy brings to his dishes. The decor is vibrant and outstanding, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners. Jerzy's enthusiasm for food is infectious, and he is always willing to share his knowledge and process of preparation with pure passion. The overall experience at Kokushi is nothing short of exceptional. There is a palpable energy in the air that only adds to the magic of the restaurant. It's no surprise that this award-winning establishment continues to impress and surprise its patrons. Kokushi truly deserves all five stars for its outstanding food, service, and atmosphere. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had a lovely early evening meal here with my boyfriend. It was fairly quiet but expected for 5pm on the Wednesday. The chicken kaarage and takoyaki starters were excellent and a good portion size for a starter (not too big or small). The sushi was awesome especially the salmon and avocado. Boyfriend has the ramen and really enjoyed it. The menu seems varied and lots to try. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would visit again.

Last weekend was the second time I’ve been and will never darken their door again…I thought my first visit was a ‘one off’ as it was as also disappointing and I thought I’d give them a second chance. Big mistake. My starter (Octopus Balls) were basically lumps of dough and you needed a pair of tweezers to find the tiny piece of octopus in each one. Tasteless. My main was Chicken Katsu Curry…very thin slivers of chicken on top of boiled rice with chip shop curry sauce. The service also wasn’t up to much…when we first arrived we waited ages while the staff were setting up another table, finally my partner had to get their attention and ask if we could get some drinks 🤷🏻♂️. Not once were we asked if everything was ok or did we enjoy our meal. Also at the end we waited…and waited until again we had to get the staff’s attention to ask for our bill. Again nobody asked us if we wanted coffee or any deserts. My daughters & partners food was equally abysmal. Surely you can do better than this Kokoshi?

Sorry to say that this place has fallen off a cliff edge We used to eat in here probably once a month but the last visit was horrendous Noticed a slight change in food quality when they lived to the new premises depending on which chef was working was always better if the head chef was working in Kirkcaldy. Waited 20 minutes for glasses & water despite asking for them when given our table The draft coming from the back of the restaurant and the additional room private dining? and people smoking was really annoying Food how dissatisfied dissapointed and disastrous it was Messed up the starters brought me an omelette instead of sushi which I requested for a starter Maincourses, two of us ordered what was allegedly duck greasy oily and lucky if there was a quarter of a duck breast on the plate sticky rice was really greasy too my partners noodles looked like overdone supernoodles she didn't eat much of them mainstay of Japanese cuisine is runny eggs my egg was absolutely rock solid Another main course was served in what looked like a starter bowl it was tiny not what had been served up on the last visit - same dish There were other diners not happy that night either - should have realised something was off when the party next to us left and hadn't eaten all their food either The couple who couldn't get a walk in were the lucky ones! clearly the new place in Perth has stretched the quality of the chefs too thin and Kirkcaldy has had the short straw Such a shame because we used to love dining here sadly never again after this.....

Sleek interiors, sadly food only average. Sushi not cold, portions far too large with clumsy execution. Lovely prawn tempura. Had to return badly burned gyoza (in wrong type of wrapper). We stopped in Kirkcaldy on our way home to Edinburgh for something to eat . The restaurant was very quiet. Decor was nice but the menus we were handed over could do with a wipe as they were covered in greasy stains. My husband ordered Shoyu ramen which was described as Light and fragrant clear chicken broth, thin Hakata noodles, pork belly, tea-stained egg, pak choi, grilled baby corn, caramelized carrots. His ramen was tasty but I wouldn’t describe it as light. If anything it was very rich, I would even say greasy but full of flavour nevertheless. I ordered Miso ramen and was gutted to discover that the soup was tasteless but the chicken breast incredibly salty. I had to ask for some soy sauce to season the ramen and when I did the girl at the bar poured the leftovers from different dishes into one and handed it to me. I was gobsmacked. When we were ready to leave and asked for a bill the waiter went over to the bar and instead of producing one got busy sharpening crayons. Since we were in a rush to head home I went over and asked to pay. The waiter passed my request to the girl at the bar but she struggled to operate the till so he finally abandoned his crayons and produced our bill. Overall very disappointing experience and I won’t be coming back.

Ordered for collection (takeaway) this is the second time I have done this and the second time that food was missing from the order when home, there is only an option to go back and collect (even though food will end up cold by the time you do this) or an offer for gift voucher (no offer for refund) £19 for a ramen that was bland, noodles were too firm, duck had more fat on than actual duck and the eggs (yuk) majorly under cooked and just not nice at all. I ordered prawn tempura on the website and was given some sort of chicken, when I explained to the staff that we clicked the prawn button they tried to say we lied and had ordered the chicken. Not impressed again no offer to resolve. Our seaweed salad was missing from the order to which no offer of refund was given just a voucher to buy more food that we don’t want. Majorly overpriced for very little, terrible service especially as no offer to bring missing food to us, and the fact there is no delivery option has been a turn off previously as it’s such an effort to pull a toddler out to collect to then have half wrong/ missing. Won’t be back, now out of pocket £28 and hungry.

Normally the food in this restaurant is fantastic but last night it was underwhelming. The chicken dish consisted of a very small chicken fillet. The duck dish had very little duck in it. This is definitely a nicer setting than their old place across the road. There is more room, but at the same time, it feels cosy. We opted for the chicken ramen, haggis balls x3, chicken dumpling gyoza, and Japanese fries with a cola and a latte. As the haggis and gyoza were on the starter menu and the ramen on the mains, we asked for it to be brought out at the same time. However, all the dishes were brought out one at a time with a slightly longer gap in between than we had anticipated. I'm not sure if this slower style of serving is on purpose in order for us to savour each dish (or get used to eating with chopsticks! There are knives, forks, and spoons available). If it is, then you might struggle to get a quick bite to eat. The food itself was really nice and couldn't complain about the taste, if anything it could have been a bit hotter and the ramen (at £17.95) could have been served in a bigger bowl and filled up to the brim. The latte was very nice. The servers were polite and well presented. There are customer toilets available to the rear. Because it's a specialist Japanese establishment, do be prepared to pay a little more for the food and drink. Overall, a very nice place to eat and drink, we would certainly go back again.

I came here on a recommendation, and now I have to wonder if I can trust my friend... :( London prices for mediocre food.. all this place has goin for it is the interior decor. The gyoza was... crunchy.. like.. impossible to eat with chopsticks, cornish pasty crunchy.. I've never had gyoza like that before...and never want to again... And the chicken katsu curry's rice was tepid.. the restaurant was empty so I can't explain it... Disappointing.. The two stars (rather than 1) are for the interior decor/atmosphere.

Could be better, the ramen was nice enough but not very hot when it arrived and the portion of noodles was very small. For £20 I'd want a lot more, I will say the pork was really nice, just let down by the temperature and stingy noodles. The sushi was nice enough, maybe a bit sweet for my liking. I got the desert sushi which was interesting but I did enjoy it but would be hesitant to recommend as it's quite an unusual pairing. Overpriced takeaway food that is served in a restaurant. The only attraction here is that it is the only restaurant in the area that offers Japanese cuisine. Beyond that, it is overpriced and the food is below par. The tuna on the nigiri looked almost chewed up. The miso soup was alright but at £5 it should have been exceptional. 4 of us went in for lunch. It was a great choice. The food was really very good. As I love Japanese food I was keen to try a selection from their wide and diverse menu. We chose 4 different starters to share, Yakatori, Tempura Prawns, Gyoza and Seaweed Pakora. The Pakora was amazing and so unexpected. For mains we ordered Udon noodles, California Rolls (Baked Salmon) and a Sushi Platter. It was truly wonderful. The staff were really good, attentive but not in your face. The Chef was trained locally in the nearby Fife College where I saw him as a guest chef preparing some dishes from Koku Shi's menu last year. This is a great place to go try something different and with the choices on the menu, you will find plenty that you will love. Currently they do not have an alcohol license yet so I wasn't able to have some warm Saki with my meal but the did have a good selection of soft drinks. "Not worth recommending. If Koku Shi restaurant only offers food of average quality at a higher price, then it may not be a strongly recommended choice. Even if it has good service attitude, if the price and quality of food cannot match, these advantages may not be able to make up for the shortcomings. When people go to restaurants for dining, they usually care more about the quality and price of food. Therefore, if these aspects are not satisfactory, recommending this restaurant may not be appropriate."

Chicken gyozas, the fried chicken starter I can't remember the name of(!), Pork belly ramen and chicken katsu. All delicious, chicken gyozas I wasn't mad keen on the texture of the filling, but otherwise, I have no complaints. Seriously good. Jasmine tea and a peach bubble tea to wash it down and both were lush. Really nice lady looked after us, great for recommendations and brought me more sauce for the katsu when I'd wolfed too much of it down. Nice and clean restaurant as well. Had a fab time!

Daughter likes to visit here as a special treat, she always gets the same 2 sushi starters with chicken ramen main. Today the ramen was piled full of seaweed and mushrooms and not much else. There aren't normally mushrooms in it so she spent an age picking them all out. The ramen was barely luke warm. I ordered chicken stir fry noodles and sent it back immediately as it was also barely luke warm. Came back allegedly heated, but it was patchy wartm andf cool throughout the plate. Barely recognisable shredded bit of pale cabbage or something on the side with the usual overpowering and cheap ginger. Honestly, the small portion of chicken stir fry was like one you would buy in a low cost supermarket... at least the supermarket ones have lots of fresh veggies on top! Really poor and overpriced food I'm afraid. The restaurant was cold, and we had to keep our jackets on. Still no license to sell alcohol either. Jump on the train and head off to Hakataya in Edinburgh to get far superior Japanes dishes at same cost than this slop.

The food and service was very nice. I had Haggis balls, a lot of salmon sushi and rice tea. I also enjoyed the atmosphere and the way the restaurant was decorated.

Been several times before - had been very satisfied on previous visits - but first time in new premises with what looked like new staff. 4 in our party. Orders taken eventually and 2 starters arrived ok. Other 2 starters absent! After asking where they were (our friends had finished by this time), we were asked if we wanted to have our starters with our main course! Said 'No, the clue is in the name!' Starters arrived but still chewing when 4 mains arrived! In short, food good but service terrible. Not a patch on previous venue and staff!!

Love this wee restaurant. Kirkcaldy is lucky to have it. The haggis balls are crazy good!

Nice modern Japanese place. Wide menu, fresh, delicious food, great service. We had to wait fairly long for the food but it was totally worth it.

We went for my sons birthday and the attention from the waitress ( I unfortunately missed her name) was fantastic. The food was delicious, but the service for me , made the whole day memorable. I can wholly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back soon.

Disappointing! Service chaotic, one starter did not arrive and food in general average at best. No alcohol, we not advised of this at time of booking. Waited 1 hour drinking still water waiting on mains.Kirkcaldy restaurant

Exceptionally nice service! I asked for an ingredient I was allergic to to be removed and instead the entire meal was prepared especially for me.
