Klay Oven in Swansea

Takeaway last night was poor , chicken pasanda bland and the onion bhajis came with no salad or mint sauce . We have eaten here for years and have been pleased with most of our meals . We didn’t recognise the staff at all so were wondering if there was new management … please get back to how you were !

Normally a really great meal!! Ordered a takeaway and wow what a difference every dish was sour, everything tasted the same, quite awful.

We have dined at Killay Spice numerous times. Delicious food, attentive staff, nothing to fault…… until this evening. I ordered the Chargrilled Salmon @ £12.95. It was the 5th time I’ve ordered this dish. It’s previously been absolutely faultlessly delicious. Whilst enjoying our starter we heard a commotion in the kitchen. Unnerving and not professional at all. When our main meals arrived, mine couldn’t have looked more wrong. It didn’t even look like my previous 4 orders of chargrilled salmon. The thickest part of my salmon, I couldn’t eat because it was raw. Absolutely everything about the presentation, the flavours (what flavours), the sauce and the ingredients were wrong. It was disgusting! I asked to look at the main menu again. One confused waiter. I wanted to check if the menu had been changed and perhaps it was my fault. Menu hadn’t been changed - in print! When our waiter cleared the plates, he saw a significant amount of food on my plate. He asked ‘was everything alright?’ I politely explained this was not made to the original menu and that it was inedible. I then asked what had caused the loud shouting and brawl in the kitchen. He replied, the new chef wanted to change ingredients……! We only had 2 beers and 2 soft drinks. When he presented our bill, knowing I’d left 50% of my main meal and there’d been a fight in the kitchen, we weren’t even offered that a complimentary drink to be removed from the bill. A lady waiting for her take away prior to our main meals arriving was still waiting for her take away when we left. I’m not one to complain. I usually write reviews of compliments. This is my first negative written review ever. Killay Spice your ‘recipe of kitchen staff isn’t working’. Or maybe your new chef isn’t working. This was a really disappointing experience. We will not be entertaining our family and friends at Killay Spice again until we hear this chef adheres to your original menus or he moves on.

Delicious tasty meal. Friendly staff. Timely service. meal reasonably priced. £28 /head Nice ambience but did request the volume on the music be turned down. Sat by radiator. Nice and warm.

Had a delivery, took almost 1.5hrs to arrive. Food was tasteless and watery, no flavour at all. Had a not great one from them last time but wanted to try them again incase it was a one off but unfortunately that was not the case. Won’t be ordering from them again, very disappointed considering how much it costs too!

Ordered a chicken roghan Josh. Absolutely tasteless. Was asked how was my meal? I said it wasn't very tasty and he said 'when I order the same meal again I should ask for curry powder to be added. I eaten many curries and have never had to ask for spices to be added. Made it seem it was my problem. Husband had to send his sauce back for more spice and chicken tikka wasn't very hot on the dish. Give it a wide berth in future. Shame. Rose indienne is really nice.

Had a lovely sit in curry here Saturday night. Tasty food and attentive staff. Didnt have to wait long for our food. Back to its best!

I'd give a zero rating if i could. Had a table booked for 7pm for the family. Arrived at 6.55 and no tables were available. OK fair enough. We were seated in the small seating area to wait for a table to come free, why one hadn't been reserved I have no idea? There were a large number of people wanting to collect take away orders. One man said he had waited 1.5hours. Another 2 hours, should have realised then that this was not going to end well. We continued to sit and wait.....and wait...whilst the staff brought out numerous take away orders. Not once were we acknowledged or did anyone apologise for the wait. We weren't even offered a drink which I would have thought would have been an obvious thing to do if there had any pride at all in their customer service. 45mins went by and still nothing. I was genuinely speechless, and we were all really hungry by then. I wish I'd read the reviews before we had booked, it's gone downhill significantly since we went there in the summer. We left in the end, no-one cared or apologised. For anyone interested we managed to get a fabulous meal with super attentive service at Mumtaz in mumbles. What a difference in standards. Never again Killay Spice.

Had a takeaway last Saturday, was given the wrong dish, peshwari naan was not as nice as normal, have contacted them via email, however, no reply. Different front of house person from normal. Maybe this was the reason our meal was not to normal standard. Gutted to be honest as we have been enjoying our food, won’t be ordering again ☹️☹️☹️

Deeply disappointed with the quality and consistency of the curry now on a few occasions. I even phoned to let them know but the manager wasn't having any of it. Won't be using them again unfortunately. It's a shame it used to be the best around. Adelinas is now by far the best around. Our curry Very very runny massala sauce so runny a dipped chip eouldnt hold the sauce Under cooked hard chips Chicken of poor quality left bitty grit like feeling in your mouth. Manager said I was the only person out of 100 massala meals ordered that has phoned to complain. I dont normally complain but on this occasion I felt strongly enough to do so.

Had a table booked tonight and it took two hours for our food to arrive and it was twenty mins before they even took our drinks order. By the time the food arrived I felt disinterested in it and begrudge paying over £50 for the meal given the poor customer service we experienced. Won’t be returning!

We were overcharged £10. The onion bahjees were not cooked and we had the wrong curry. We had a takeaway so it ruined our meal. Won't be going back.

I just visited this place and ordered a takeaway - 1 Chicken Tikka Masala curry, rice, bombay aloo, onion bhaji and 3 popadoms with chutneys - the total cost came to £32.50 which I immediately though was expensive - but I paid cash £35 to include a tip. I checked the menu when I got home and the total cost should have been £25.05 at most - I was ripped off by the waiter! To add to this when I got home I also found the order was wrong - despite being marked "CTM" the curry was a king prawn masala which I hadn't wanted or ordered. Onion bhajis were undercooked and soft in the middle. overall most upset about being ripped off and wrong order - I won;t be using this place again!

Been dining here for many years. Never disappointed. Staff always warm and friendly with excellent knowledge of the menu. I love the Chicken tikka with salad and Aloo chat. Reasonably priced too. See you soon.

Really excellent restaurant we regularly go to This is one of the best we've been to and consistently good. It does get busy because it's so popular, so watch out for those peak times Never had a bad meal and enthusiastically recommend it to all.

Ordered over the phone . On arrival 2 staff members arguing with each other at the bar. Even though I’d been given a time for collection the order hadn’t even been sent to the kitchen, just as well as it was wrong . 25 mins later it turned up. They weren’t busy as there were only 3 people in the sit down area. The curry was mediocre. Never again.

Food is exceptional. Trying to pay by card over the phone is the weirdest experience ever. First, they tell you someone will call you back to take your card details but process the order and delivery anyway. Then nobody calls you back, called three times, and kept getting told someone would have to call me back. Then the delivery guy turns up and said he was told to ask me for cash, I explained I didn't have cash, and that I had confirmed I would pay by card. He hesitated for a minute or two, then left. Then I finally get called back to take my card details, right when I'm in the middle of eating with my family, which was exactly what I wanted to avoid. This has happened both times I have ordered delivery, The food is brilliant, some of the best Indian food in the whole of Swansea, paying for your meal over the phone by card is like doing the Krypton Factor after ten pints of Cider. My advice is that if you are going to get a delivery, have the cash instead.

I wrote a scathing review of the Killay Tandoori a few years ago and before last night had never been back. The Killay Tandoori has gone and instead there is now Killay Spice - what a brilliant change. The staff were attentive and the chef produced one of the best Asian meals that we had ever had. No real frills but an amazing depth of flavour and a mix of spices that was faultless and very individual. We were told that the chef was a new "celebrity" chef from London - I am delighted that he has chosen to move to within a few miles of my home. Swansea is blessed with many "Indian" restaurants but the Killay Spice is now my favourite. It was also good to meet up with a waiter who had previously worked at Rose Indien and The Viceroy - a restaurant where we often ate twenty plus years ago. He is still as friendly and efficient as he was all those years back. Thanks for a wonderful meal and a lovely evening out.

This has to be my favourite place to dine, the curries are exquisite and plentiful. The owner, Imran and his staff really welcome you and nothing is too much trouble. The deco and overall ambience is relaxing. Not a lot of parking and its hidden slightly off the main street but that should not stop you visiting the best Indian cuisine not only in Swansea but I'd say Wales.

Only sent cos Chinese in killay closed but it was a lovely takeaway best in the area lovely chicken dish and lovely lamb dish good selection chutney which think were complimentary highly recommend

I have visited this restaurant a few times since my last review and the food and service of each occasion has been brilliant. Last night I have the chicken saag, it was stunning as were the accompaniments. I cannot praise this restaurant enough, the staff have turned the retaurant around after a very difficult period. Four of us ate at Killay Spice last night. We each had different dishes. we are all no strangers to curry. We all agreed that the food was superb. Fresh and flavoursome. I decided to stick with an old favourite, a Chicken Tikka Biriany with garlic nan bread. It was, with no doubt, the best Biriany I have tasted. Ever!! Top marks to Killay Spice for excellent food.

My friends and I were regulars at Killay Spice since it opened and enjoyed the welcome, the staff and the food. About 9 months ago something changed, all the staff left and the food and service was poor so we stopped going there. Thirteen of us booked a table on a Saturday night at 8pm for a retirement party, we did not receive a menu until 8.45pm and no offer of a drink. A few of us got fed up and went to queue at the bar for 15 mins, where we were eventually told to go back to our table and a waiter would take our drinks order, he eventually arrived 20 minutes later! We ended up eating at 10pm. The sullen faced waiter dropped a plate onto the table and it smashed to bits. My colleague was given the wrong dish but she was so hungry she eat it, the meal was then whisked away from her and she had to wait ages for her meal to arrive. When the food arrived it was not the best, I have eaten far tastier curry elsewhere. They over booked the restaurant and could not cope. I will not return.

The service was extremely slow, the starter plates were not cleared even after mains were served, the drinks were served in tiny glasses and without ice, and to top it off we had to ask 3 times and wait over half an hour for the bill. Would not recommend wasting your money
