King Of The South in Croydon

This is the most disgusting attempt at a feijoada I ever had! LETTUCE mixed up with flour, orange and old rice. Little bits of black beans and sausage and that´s about it! I am feeling sick now from trying this! It is disrespectful to the Brazilian culture and it shouldn't be served! You clearly don´t know what cooking is! It´s the worst thing I have ever seen in my life! Don't order feijoada here! It's disgusting! You're going to be sick! IT'S LETTUCE with old rice, flour and orange all mixed together!!!! Just a little bit of beans and a few pieces of sausage! That's it! A real wash! I tried it and now I feel sick! Bizarre!

Honestly, when I don't like a place I simply don't review it, I simply ignore it. I'm only really going because I'm obviously defeated! I went 4 times before actually doing this review, each time the service was terrible, (in fact for it to be terrible it had to improve a lot). With the difference that this last time the beer is cold (which it wasn't the other times). The staff are always rude. The food is expensive because it is normal (which is usual in Brazilian places) and you have to wait 20 minutes for a beer. And when I was talking to a friend (I don't know why she wants to go to that specific pub, as it's the same story every time and she always complains). I was threatened by the guard who would call security and ask them to throw us out! Yes that's right. And I'm not even being all, rude or something. Honestly, it's not my problem if the staff has been working since the morning, I know it's tiring and exhausting, but he was the one who proposed this. I just don't think I have to suffer his wrath due to his exhaustion. Simply commenting on the delay in service. And of course the place allows smoking!!! What do you mean, it's a cigarette and it releases the same!!! But anyway, for me, it’s the last place I go. I'm only going because of my friend. Although after this publication, my entry could well be banned, as Brazilians don't like to be contradicted.

It was really good, I really liked it

Went for bottomless brunch yesterday. Dreadful place, empty apart from us which should have been a warning sign! Food was bland, service was appalling and the restaurant looked tired and grubby. We should have left on arrival but thought it may have turned out okay, how wrong we were !!!!

The place has a great vibe. The music sound was much better than the previous location. I think everyone loved the happy hour for drinks. However, the floor for dancing was very very sticky, gluey... .

Quiet on a Saturday afternoon but friendly staff

Ladies toilets clean,but no toilet roll, no hand soap,at 6pm on a Friday night! 🤷

Great enviroment, loud and live music. £15 to get to expensive not worth the price.

We tried ordering some food, first person I spoke to said they don’t deliver. My partner is Brazilian and he told her they do deliver via UBER eats and Deliveroo. When we checked on both sites, there was no record of them. Complete waste of time.

Tasty food, let down by appalling service from waiting staff. I was served the wrong drink, my side to accompany my main was brought out as a starter. As a party, we waited ages to have our order taken and around 30 for mains after starters had been served. There was only one other party in the pub, and plenty of staff who were eating and chatting amongst themselves. The final straw was being overcharged! I will not return and cannot recommend this place based on my experience today. A shame because the chef is doing an amazing job.

Toilet available. We were there during happy hour 2 for 1. Great atmosphere, you can find a quiet spot to chat. Food was really good cocktails could be better. Staff were accomodating and friendly. Dog was allowed Thank you.

Many years since iv been here, and I can't help but compare with how it used to be. I don't mind change ,but this place I don't understand or like. The staff were pleasant enough, but everything else seems confused to me. Not for me.

Was pleasantly surprised how good the food was as some of the reviews were not so good. We went on a Sunday afternoon we had waffles which were very good, a Sunday roast which was also very good, a veggie burger and chips and an all day breakfast. The staff were also very attentive

Very unprofessional place. When you call, they will simply hang up on you and turn off the phone. I have gone in on more than one occasion where they say they have a certain food item, charge you for it, then afterwards say they don't have it and want to give you something else. Dishonest place, rude staff, not worth the time.

Sad state of affairs - bit ramshackled, strange unmatched chairs and tables...room for improvement!

Currently sitting here having a “quiet” Saturday pint and a member of staff (I’m guessing) has just walked in, Sat on the couch near the bar, taken his shoes off, laid down on it and is watching something on his phone so loudly it’s offensive. Was going to eat in her but have decided against it. What a shame.

Lovely pub!! Great ambiance, with a nice garden and 10/10 customer service. To top it all off this spot dog-friendly. I recommend you try out their cocktails and food - start with the coxinhas!

Meat platter was suprisingly large and tasty. Our family of four with two young kids were really full after eating it.

Should close at 2am and 1am they put the lights on and get the people out...never going back again and will not recommend

Question.... if this place closed at 2pm,why at 1.15am on a Saturday is already trying to kick people out, when we spending money and try to have fun???and we(a group of bday party) ask to the people that worked in here(we actually still were) with a very low music and the waiter giving us a plastic cups to leave...they just ignore everybody....

Nicely decorated pub, interesting menu ,would like to see veggie dishes alongside the vegan dishes. Bit confused by the Venetian blunds above the two booths.

Walked out I went in to get a Sunday dinner Ias it had been recommended by a freind. I was greated by a member of staff who had there mouth full of food making it extremely hard to understand what they were saying she first told me they do not do Sunday dinner till 5pm then told me they do. She then informed me that as it was a party (there was only one of me and the place was dead) I would have to pay extra to eat in. Not a good first appearance

Been here once prior to my second visit, but during my first visit the food was lovely but they took way too long to bring out the drinks knowing it is a bottomless brunch booking so I had to keep getting up to ask. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back again with another friend for bottomless which was even worse and ended up walking out this time. We had made a booking via their website for another brunch at 4pm (which went through and paid a deposit). I went in and stood there for a while until a member of staff finally acknowledged me and the lady I spoke with seemed to be in the clouds and looked at me as if I was talking gibberish. Another staff member came over and explained that they had a party booked so they thought they had blocked that time.. At this point I would have understood if they couldn’t accommodate and just gave us a refund. They still sat me down outside whilst I waited for my friend but I just knew we would have been forgotten outside as we were the only ones out their whilst a party was happening. My friend arrived and again, I was having to get up to ask someone to take our order however, the staff were just walking around me… A staff member finally came but at that point my friend and I were both over the service and said we’re going to leave and would like a refund which she didn’t hesitate to give back. Food was nice the first time but it would be nice if the staff were a more attentive and friendly.. We ended up going to Meat Liquor in Box Park, the food, drinks and service was 10/10.

Went in for some dinner and a drink with a few people at the weekend. Food was really tasty with great service. Also dog friendly. Will be going again.

The place is nice, large, staff are friendly and offer live music. But the food is TERRIBLE, honestly just AVOID. I saw reviews and pictures and thought it looked good. Honestly couldnt eat the food. Threw it away. Ate else where. Visited Saturday 23rd April 22.

Been in twice, overcharged for drinks twice and had to correct the bill. Once is perhaps a mistake but twice being overcharged by quite some margin for a wine and a pint, not impressive.

Popped in for dinner and a drink and was pleasantly surprised. Service was quick, the burritos were tasty and the primitivo wine was good! Nice decor and environment too. Will have to come back to try the brunch :)

Nice place and ambience. Service was great though the food itself was slow to arrive. It was really good though, this place does some of the best chicken waffles in town so was worth the wait. Would come here again.

Good food portion just the choice of steak not so great a flank steak a bit chewie, Good cocktails, ther have a happy hour between 4 and 7pm ,good back ground must. Will be trying them again

Really enjoyed the Vegetarian breakfast and juice. Service wasn't the most efficient but the breakfast was tasty. I'd suggest they make the portions bigger but the quality of the food was good.

Great food, live music events, happy hour and more! Great place to have a breakfast, lunch and dinner. And let's not forget the amazing Sunday Roast being served! I highly recommend the King of the South to anyone.

Nice décor and good food but really slow service.

Went for their brunch @ 11am. Place was dead and had a weird not ready vibe, despite being open from 10am. We had a reasonably long wait (about an hour) for food, but the food itself was nice and our server gave us a hot chocolate to apologise for the wait. Overall, could be nice if it was a bit busier!

Thought we'd see the 'new kid' in town, albeit opened since August 21. Chicken burger fine, chips fab, beef burrito bland. Drinks quite pricey! Beware 1/2 pint drinks- £3.50 regardless of what the full pint cost is. No mention on drinks menu!! Went today, a Sunday late afternoon. Bit disappointed re drinks pricing, try to support local places but will have to think about returning.

Just visited King of the South 1st time. My chicken 🍔 fine, chips very good. Husband's beef burrito very bland!! However what really 'took the biscuit' was the fact they charge £3.50 for any 1/2 of beer/cider/lager regardless of what the pint price is!!! Not mentioned anywhere on the drinks menu, so beware. Not sure we'll revisit, shame as we try to support our local businesses.

In the evening the lighting makes it a bit depressing but in the day they should run it as a coffee house. The staff are friendly and the people are friendly. I think it's South American.

I debated myself on how to rate this. On a Saturday night there is a great atmosphere, decent music, door staff really friendly and not too busy. The negatives was bar service being painfully slow and no bitter on tap. I would definitely go back but hope that the speed of service can be improved particularly when there were never that many people waiting.

Cover charge on a Friday creates an awkward situation but great 2 4 1 on drinks

Great bar with friendly staff, tasty cocktails and good food. Last time we were in, there was live music, which was really fun and created a great atmosphere. Service could be a little more efficient, but as it's recently opened, I'm sure they're just finding their feet. Great addition to Croydon and will definitely be going back!

Is getting there. Not good that you have to pay every order. Staff inexperienced.

Finding their feet but the bar staff need to be trained, awkward as they didn't know the bar or how to make drinks, took painfully long to make and they weren't busy

The staff are so so lovely and the food is incredible. Would recommend going on a Saturday evening so you can hear Regis Milan singing!

Amazing pub/bar at the heart of South Croydon. Great vibe, live music and lovely food! The staff are welcoming and nice. Great hang especially for Brazilians as they host Brazilian music and food some parts of the week, however generally just an all around lovely place with drinks, food, music and fun for everyone!! Highly recommend.

Unfortunately we wanted to go there to have cocktails and was told a 10.00 pound per person entrance fee due to live music being played. So we said can we not just sit and have a drink as it’s a “ bar” “ restaurant “ no .. only if you pay the entrance fee ! Shame as we frequent bars locally and are regulars in many , bringing friends etc but alas we won’t be regulars here as never got past the doorman nor the woman taking the entrance fees🤷🏻‍♀️
