Not one that I would go to again

Had a Takeaway from here as I saw the score on trip advisor which was high I had Singapore Fried rice When I got home it had Egg shell in the food I rang up to complain and all I got was a sorry I asked for my money back and was told I’m afraid we can’t do that So I won’t be going back there again There are lots of chinese restaurants around With much better service

If you’re like me and put out the feelers before you go to a restaurant for the first time, you’ll have already have heard about the King Li and I am glad to confirm it didn’t disappoint! From start to finish it was amazing! We started off with some local Tsingtao beers which really hit the spot, crisp and refreshing. The starters then came piping hot in temperature and spice, just how I like it. We also ordered some prawn crackers which I initially thought were pricey but after seeing the abundant overflowing portion that arrived, I have to admit they were good value. On to the mains, I wasn’t sure where I was going to fit it but soldiered on and I am glad I did. In this day and age where sustainability is key, it was nice to see the starter cutlery was recycled for the main event! Across the table we had a mix of duck, beef and chicken in various sauces and all were the perfect combination of meat, veg and well concocted sauce. I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of salt and pepper chips, they need to be bursting with flavour and have a kick like a Japanese mule and again the king li’s version of the side was on point! A succulent Chinese meal is not complete without egg fried rice so we also slipped a couple of them in there and all that’s left to say is mwah! No room for pudding, so we left for a quick sharpener in the travellers while watching the turn but not before we paid compliments to the chef! The diners club roadshow continues but we will be back to try some more delicacies from the king li at some point!

They serve Cantonese cuisine - if you want authentic Cantonese food, you should definitely come here.

Delicious Chinese food. We both really enjoyed it. The sweet and sour chicken was lovely - delicate and not at all gloopy.

Excellent food. Despite being a large group, all the food was served quickly and piping hot. I'd advise people to actually read the reviews because giving a one star rating due to on street parking is ridiculous.

Just not that great. Our duck starter came without the pancakes… by the time we finally managed to grab someone’s attention to get some pancakes the duck had started to go cold - there was no apology or anything… Mains arrived with our additional starters (that we’d ordered to come with mains) all looked good. Food not particularly piping hot though and portions rather small. The satay chicken skewers were really not nice. The chicken curry lacked any real flavour and the mushrooms were like pure water rather than lovely little button mushrooms. In all honesty most of it lacked any flavour. The sweet and sour chicken was nice though! - not sure why it had strawberries in it, that was strange. After eating what we wanted, it then took a while for anyone to clear our plates - which again is just frustrating. It was rather over priced too for the quality and quantity of food. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

The restaurant closes at 10 pm on a Saturday. Not enough food, we ordered a set meal for four with only three of us sharing. My granddaughter ordered a separate dish which did not arrive with the meal, we had to remind the staff they had forgotten the dish. The staff even thought they were nice. they were young and unexperienced. I ask one of the staff if they did Irish coffee and he had to go and ask as he was not sure what I was talking about. We were disappointed with the whole experience as years ago we used to frequent the place quite often and it was bulging at the seams now there was more empty tables than full.

Nice enough food but portions are not big enough for the price paid. Service was a bit strange, although the young lady was training I think, but then managers need to help more. Clearing plates when still eating, not knowing the menu etc...

Chicken and sweetcorn soup was amazing along with The melasion chicken curry was also amazing. Great food great service

We travel 40mins to come dine at King Li and hands down the best Cantonese restaurant we have dined in. Very clean and friendly staff, they even remember our drinks order “Diet Coke and water”! All of the dishes we have sampled are always fresh and hot, but by far our favourite is fillet steak in peking sauce. Maybe slightly pricier than your usual Chinese restaurant, but it is well worth that little bit extra. Would definitely recommend an evening out here and we will be back very soon!

We went as a group of 10 mixed age group not knowing what to expect as we had not visited King Li before. We were not disappointed. Excellent food, service and surroundings very friendly and relaxed. We will definitely be back. Thank you .

My low score has nothing to do with the food as that’s normally great it’s the fact we had to walk out and go elsewhere as freezing cold. Yes fuel prices are up but customers do not want to go out and sit in coats and hats. I’ll return in the summer.

We had 3 starters which were good. Then we had 3 mains with rice. The Thai green curry was very thick with big pieces of red onion and mushrooms? I love Thai green curry due to its lightness and clean flavors of coconut and green vegetables. I couldn't eat it... unfortunately it was not nice. And won't be going back after our bill came to £131.00 we had drinks but for a Chinese dinner it was way too expensive...

Great management was very accommodating to my dietary requirements. Food overall was fantastic, especially the seafood scallops. A must try. Being a good fanatic from dinner at Michelin restaurant to local restaurants. I must say I was surprised with the service and quality of food. Certainly will come back again a must try if you are in Rotherham. Thanks for a great entertaining evening.

Had a really nice meal. First visit in a long time, can't fault the food at all, very tasty and plenty of it,we had the set menu for six and none of us went hungry. The only small thing was there wasn't any heated trays to keep the food warm so by the end of the meal it was cold. Will definitely return.

By far the best Chinese I have ever had. The scallops in garlic butter were amazing. The whole evening in the restaurant was 100% spot on. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for Chinese food.

My family and I had a lovely meal tonight. Highly recommend it. The food was beautiful, very tasty. It brought back memories to when it was the Shining Star, but looks a lot cleaner and modern. Myself and husband decided to try this restaurant, and omg, the food was absolutely gorgeous. The staff there are lovely, very friendly. My husband wanted to try something different and was told of a recommended meal, so he tried it and loved it. I would seriously recommend it.

Lovely food, lots of choice, great service

My family is visiting Yorkshire for a couple of days and have been disappointed in other areas we have tried to dine. We found King Li's and the portions were well priced and filling! Sometimes you just need good Asian food and our dinner absolutely hit the spot. Big thank you to the very kind and accommodating staff as well.

Me and my partner and my three year old little boy ate here tonight. We had a great meal and the service was fantastic. All the staff made my little boy feel extra special with his own special drink, prawn crackers and a few sweeties at the end. It was really appreciated. Food was lively and very nice Chinese tea too. This is the first time ever that a sweet and sour king prawn dish that we have had contained strawberries. Completely spoiled the dish, where on earth, and in particular China, is that considered to be part of the recipe for this dish. I addition the fried Noodles side dish tasted awful, the sliced onions in it were burnt and completely ruined the meal. Needless to say we won't be having a meal from there again. It's a pity because it used to be the best Chinese takeaway in the area, before it was revamped

I have had a take away from you and it was very nice apart from the crispy seaweed that was awful cooked in fish oil. Yes I know what it was cooked in I'm a chef. The thing that annoys me is I'm a resident and can't park due to your ignorant customers the park like idiots I live here they don't tonight I finished a long and busy shift and was trying to park up when one of your customers tried to reverse in the same place. I had to honk my horn so he didn't hit my car can you please ask your customers to park sensibly if not I will get a petition up and ask the residents to sign it so it's residents permits only. If you gave a 30 %discount to residents we would probably eat there more. Oh by the way use veg oil or sesame oil for your crispy seaweed I don't eat fish or anything flavoured with it.

The BEST Chinese in town by far. We have been looking for a good Chinese or Chinese takeaway and we have tried a fair few now over the 4 years. I keep driving past this place and thought we need to try and we wasn’t disappointed. We will be returning!!!!! The food was lovely - we ordered king prawn Malaysian curry, salt and pepper chicken and Singapore vermicelli noodles. Wow, it was gorgeous. The king prawns were massive too. We also had soups to start which were equally as nice and also thick some can be very watery. The staff are all lovely and welcoming. We spoke to the owner who was very friendly and told us abit about the place which was nice. It’s a family run place which is lovely to see. Customers were people who had returned and the staff knew their orders and chatted to them which was also nice to see. The restaurant / environment is lovely. Acoustics are perfect. The deco and chairs / tables are a really good quality. The wine and beer was also nice and fairly priced £6 for 250ml glass…. All in all EXCELLENT, thanks so much. Ps my camera is crap!

Very light & bright modern restaurant. It however was extremely noisy. It certainly didn't make for a nice romantic meal, too harsh & noisy. The food was very nice, it was on the pricy side but the quality was good. Service was friendly & efficient. Some thought needs to be given on how to make the experience less like eating in a hospital canteen.

Both me and my partner visited the restaurant on Saturday 11th Sept after reading some good reviews. We booked a table for 9pm arriving at 8:50 as we wanted time to call for a few drinks elsewhere in advance of our meal. We were shown to our table and were given adequate time to read the menu. You could tell it hadn't been open long and everything was quite new as the young staff were very attentive but a little unsure of some of the menu items. We asked a few questions on the dishes and finally ordered Crispy Lamb with pancakes and spring rolls for our starters. This was excellent and a nice change from duck. We were then presented with our main courses Fillet steak in Peking sauce and also Chicken curry. The steak was superb, a nice cut of beef, no fat and cooked beautifully in decent sized pieces. The curry however was very bland and tasted like gravy with little to no flavour. The food apart from the curry was superb and we will be re-visiting. A small disappointment was whilst we were finishing eating they turned the lights up and someone was hoovering in the bar area, not he kind of atmosphere you would create unless you want rid of your customers. It was only just after 10pm so not late and not what I would expect. Keep up the fab food and look at the finer points in making your guests feel welcomed and I am sure your restaurant will go from strength to strength.

The food was first rate and obviously fresh, the service was impeccable and the manager was really friendly and had the team working well.. Would definitely recommend. One of the best Chinese meals that we’ve ever had.(and we’ve had a few!!)

This has been transformed from it's previous restaurant to a very smart very well designed place to dine . The atmosphere is excellent with friendly attentive staff. The food beautifully cooked . What more could you want , I will definitely be going back.
