Celebrating 20 years of marriage we decided to go to Killicrankie House for lunch. It was truly outstanding. The food is of the highest standard with such attention to detail. So much flavour in every bite. The location is idyllic and the staff very attentive and knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this restaurant and hopefully the next time we visit we can spend the night and experience their breakfast. Complete luxury... thank you to Tom and Matilda for making our wedding anniversary memorable.

Had a truly memorable dinner on our last night in the Highlands. One of the best meals we’ve ever had. The food is creative and expertly prepared, and the staff could not have been nicer. An added bonus - the soundtrack for the evening comes from LPs played on real turntables. A different staff member spins the tunes every night. Ours was fond of Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, Tears for Fear, U2, and Caravan Palace.

Service and food were top notch. The two female waiting staff had excellent attention to detail, things that most places completely miss. The food was great, I especially enjoyed the dish made with porridge, the cod that you barely touched and it just fell apart, and the mushroom and milk bread. Lovely little touches like being given a menu to take away in a nice envelope, and chef coming out to speak to everyone (but not in a pretentious type of way). Picturesque location and beautiful garden. Would definitely love to return.

Nestled in the plush scottish killiecrankie House, is a fusion cuisine and experience beyond excellent. Traditional Scottish grains, unctious sauces, freshest sea food, quality meats and the sweeties keep you wanting more. Wine pairing is faultless too. An experience, a successful concept, a culinary sharing with warm support from the entire team and a suspended, timeless atmosphere. It is strongly recommended to sleep in one place to enjoy the setting as much as possible and relax in the lounge or at the bar!!! 90% Eco-friendly, a few Americans and Europeans but it's worth the detour for a good epicurean! Well done !

On a tour of the country alongside other wonderful restaurants, the Killiecrankie House restaurant was by far the most memorable gastronomic experience in Scottland. Tom's cuisine is highly creative, refined, and unquestionably on an international top level. The establishment serves only the best local ingredients, which are typically prepared utilizing innovative techniques and complex preparations. However, the dishes were seamingly simple, powerful, and never overly complicated. This is a true gastronomic marvel, nestled in the Killiecrankie forests and surrounded by gardens where the staff raises their own veggies, herbs, and plants. An fantastic location. Go there before Michelin arrives and booking becomes tricky.

This restaurant delivered above our already high expectations going in. The tasting menu was fantastic, a Michelin-level blend of local cuisine and ingredients with a touch of Japanese elements, all with a flawless presentation. The paired wines were from atypical grape varieties such as manseng or merenzao, but they perfectly matched the dishes. Service was also excellent. Overall the best food experience we had during our one-week trip in Scotland.

I returned in 2024. And stayed the night. Rooms and breakfast are magnificent. Food was better than ever. The langoustine with horseradish and beetroot made me cry. Top restaurant of 2024 so far. Myse is similar and not too far behind. I think the gap may be closing. This place is improving but places like Myse and Sola are upping their game. This restaurant is just "WOW". 2 star Michelin quality. One of the best tasting menus I've ever had. And lovely place. You can watch the kitchen. I shall be returning. [Note: I returned. We visited Killiecrankie House Hotel on Valentine’s Day. As it was a special occasion we stayed overnight. The property is an easy 90 minute drive from Edinburgh in the heart of Perthshire close to Pitlochry. It has 5 bedrooms, a small art deco bar, lounge and dining room with an open view to the kitchen. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Matilda, who with her husband Tom (the head chef) own and run the property. Our room was well appointed and overall had the feel of a small boutique hotel. It is an excellent property for a romantic getaway amidst lovely countryside. Our dining experience was first class and the food was superb leaning heavily on home grown ingredients and locally sourced produce with Japanese influences. The meal comprised a 15 course tasting menu. Although this sounds a lot, the portion size and timings were just right with a number of these being finger foods served as canapés in the lounge/bar. We had upgraded to the Chef’s Counter and Tom presented each dish and explained the various processes that went into their preparation. We also interacted with the other chefs in the kitchen which added to the whole experience. During dinner various vinyl records were playing. Our playlist had been selected by Jake (the nightly choices rotate between the chefs) and was quite eclectic! A copy of our tasting menu and pictures of the various courses are attached. Breakfast the next day was expansive and very tasty. Highly recommend visiting this jewel of a property.

I can't recommend Killiekrankie House enough. Tom and Matilda were fantastic hosts, very friendly and engaging, and Niall in the bar and all the other staff were lovely to talk to. The meal was phenomenal - not only delicious, but quirky and fun as well, with a really interesting drinks pairing. All the ingredients were locally sourced, often grown in the house's garden, and clearly took a lot of imagination to create. I'd highly recommend sitting at the chef's counter, where Tom takes you through the menu and you can watch the chefs preparing your next dish. The master suite was also great, really spacious with a big bath and a comfortable bed. Will definitely be back!

They deserve a Michelin star!! Our dinner experience at Killiecrankie House was hands down the best meal we had on our 2 week trip to Scotland. Actually, it was the best meal we have had in 10 years!! Matilda and our server, Lauren, welcomed us so warmly and were attentive and gracious without ever being intrusive. Tom, the chef, was also friendly and engaging. The house is gorgeous with an amazing garden of vegetables and herbs and the music, played on an old fashioned record player adds to the ambiance. But the real star of the show is the food! Every dish was spectacular but a few favorites were the Scotch egg, salmon cornetto, dripping fried porridge, Hokkaido bread and bitter chocolate, flowering currant & violet. The wine selection was also incredible including a Chinese red wine (The Prince from Treaty Port Vineyards) that bowled us over. The plating on everything made each dish a work of art. Just gorgeous china, wood and ceramic pieces to show off the food! One member of our group was a pescatarian and they created a special menu to accommodate those needs. If you want a Michelin star experience in a gorgeous, relaxed setting with amazing, creative, delicious food using local ingredients and produce right from their garden, go to the Killiecrankie House!! We will definitely be back!

We had an excellent and memorable evening at the Killiecrankie House, trying the tasting menu and wine pairing. We arrived later than planned due to traffic but Matilda, Tom and the team were so accommodating and worked hard to ensure we had the full dining experience, even with limited time. The menu showcased Scottish ingredients (some sourced from the restaurant’s own garden), prepared creatively and often with a Japanese twist. Each course was full of interesting, well-considered flavours without trying to do too much at once. Music on the record player, the staff’s modern outfits and the lack of starched white tablecloths made us feel comfortable but the presentation and care that went into each dish and corresponding wine made the experience special. The Scottish-themed cocktails were a fun way to end the evening. In short, the Killiecrankie House is a breath of fresh air - fine dining without the pretence. Treat yourself and book a table, you will be thinking about the food for days!

We had an extraordinary dining experience at a remarkable restaurant called Killiecrankie House in Pitlochry, Scotland. With a tasting menu that surpassed our experiences in both Paris and the US, it truly stood out as the best. We sincerely wish them great success. The chef's mastery of flavors was evident as he skillfully reinvented traditional Scottish cuisine, achieving perfection in every bite. Each dish was a work of art, beautiful to look at, and with hidden surprises. Often dishes are plated exposing every element: sauces drizzled over fish and garnish laying next to it. Not here. Multiple layers vailed delightful surprises such as fish hidden beneath the steamed Japanese custard cradling fish egg dish. The textures, layers, flavors, and contrasts exploded in our mouths, creating a truly fantastic culinary journey. In some tasting menus, the smaller starters are the highlight, while the larger dishes veer towards conventional flavors. However, this was not the case at Killiecrankie House. Each dish surpassed the previous one, keeping us captivated throughout. Did I mention that the restaurant's lounge offers a view of their vegetable garden, where the ingredients for their dishes are grown? It adds an extra layer of connection to the food we enjoyed. Thank you, Chef Tom and your team, for an unforgettable evening!

Went to the restaurant for the taster menu with wine paring and non-alcoholic paring. We arrived late due to traffic carnage on A9 but were greeted by staff as we arrived which was nice. We were shown directly to our table and made comfortable with some water before being served our first drinks. The marmalade syrup drink was fabulous and and the wine kept up a high standard. The food was fun, adventurous, local where possible and the drinks certainly did complement the food well. We were there for 2 hours, which wasn’t bad for 8 courses. It was interesting to see the chefs prepare the food but it wasn’t a public performance more a look at what was coming next. The scotch eggs were put in a steam oven and when they were brought out the steam flowed along the ceiling. Quite a nice effect . We certainly enjoyed it and staff were very friendly and explained every drink and dish as you would expect. Enjoyable day. Parking was easy and coming from Pitlochry the sign for the restaurant easy to spot as a big wooden board.

Ever since I saw Tom at the Foodies festival and had a chance to try his Dripping Fried Porridge I was dedicated to visit this place. This was the best idea for our anniversary which we had in September. The food was simply incredible, the best meal I've had in Scotland. You could feel the passion and care in every petal beautifully presented on all different gorgeous ceramics, a lot of hard work. Both my eyes and my taste buds were so exited with every dish, and I honestly wish I filmed more for the memories. As the menu is not very descriptive you gotta take notes if you want to remember the story and ingredients of every dish which I've told all my chef friends about. The room was also exquisite, and breakfast was great as well. The only thing, the atmosphere felt a bit cold and too classy-minimalistic, which I suppose is understandable for trying to attract a wealthier class and it's not an experience just anyone would have. Also for someone without a car location is a bit tricky, but you can get a taxi in Pitlochry. Definitely would come back for the food.

I'm not sure any review will do this place justice, these people care about 2 things, hospitality and food. They did not dissappint. The food was incredible, there was a ton of surprise tastes and presentations. I'm not going to spoil the surprises here but my wife and I may have been guilty at gushing a bit too much. We make a habit of treating ourselves to 1 luxury meal in any country we visit, and this one knocked it out of the park. The alcohol pairings were spot on, again I don't want to spoil their secrets, go and learn them for yourself. The hospitality was top notch, from the moment you walked to the desk and said your name, you were their guest. From personalized notes with wax seals, to a totally relaxed atmosphere, Matilda heads up an awesome experience. This couldn't have suited us any better. Bonus points : my wife would be mad if I didn't mention the bathroom in room 5. I do think once we go home we are going to remodel our own bathroom to match. Absolutely recommend, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Every dish of the tasting menu was delicious as well as interesting, we enjoyed it more than the ones at Fat Duck, Ledbury etc. On top of that it’s such a lovely place to stay, nicely styled yet very relaxed and welcoming. We will definitely go back.

This was one of the best meals in my life! Worth an entire trip to Scotland. Owners are wonderful hosts and awesome people. The drink pairing was exquisite- 10/10. The room was also so nice -such a lovely space. I feel lucky to have had this unforgettable experience.

Wonderful overnight stay at Killiecrankie House sitting in the wonderful scenery of Perthshire. The owners Matilda and Tom have restored the building fittingly. The interior decor is clean and consistent Scandi style which leads to a non fussy atmosphere accompanied with suitable indie soundtrack while drinking and eating. The tasting menu for our trip consisted of an Asian, Japanese fusion with Scottish nods to local favourites. Throughout the food was excellent. Great flavours coming from great ingredients handled with care to allow them to shine. Good mix from the land and sea to keep courses interesting with touches of humour in presentation. The matching drinks complemented well with the dishes and enhanced the flavour. All staff friendly and relaxed with smiles (behind the masks at the moment!) Thoroughly enjoyable and added to the list of places we hope to visit again.

We stayed at Killiecrankie House (KH) to celebrate a special occasion with a few friends and had a wonderful time! Owners Tom and Matilda have thought through all the details; their creativity is expressed throughout everything in the refurbished house, including its interiors, furniture, music and of course the menu. The view of the Highlands surrounding the house is breathtaking. The bedrooms are luxurious, simple and cosy. The cocktail bar area is stunning with tongue-in-cheek art around the room, reflecting Matilda’s playful side. The couple’s passion for food is evident in the living room where their personal collection of contemporary, classic cookbooks and other culinary-related hardbacks are available for the curious/food-loving guests to browse through. It’s a welcoming and intimate way of giving guests a glimpse into their food world and colourful personalities. The 13-course tasting menu was superb and, of course, the best part of our stay. Tom’s homage to Scottish ingredients, brilliant imagination and gastronomic curiosity is a delight. Matilda’s selection of the pairing drinks were equally delicious, including a dark, bold and sweet sake - a nod to her Japanese heritage. It’s simple - if you love to eat and drink and fancy a trip to the beautiful Cairngorms then I recommend you book soon. Keep an eye on KH, they’re just starting a very exciting journey in the culinary world! Good luck Matilda, Tom and team!

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home by Matilda and Tom. Killiecrankie House has been delightfully restored with 5 luxurious bedrooms, and has an invitingly chic bar and restaurant. The highlight though, is the food served byTom and his kitchen staff. The 13 course tasting menu is exceptional and almost entirely locally sourced. Would definitely return again.

Exceptional. The food is incredible and it’s only a matter of time before this ends up with a Michelin star which I’m sure will count for an awful lot more than my 5 google stars!

A place with heart and soul. Every aspect of the food, drink and accommodation at Killiecrankie comes from the deep passion that Tom and Matilda clearly have for what they do. Not only is it worth the trip alone for the meal, but the rooms themselves are top-notch and the surrounding Killiecrankie and Pitlochry areas offer breathtaking views. One of the best drinks pairings I’ve ever had with a tasting menu - don’t hesitate.

My partner and I had the pleasure of visiting Killiecrankie House the week before Christmas. Whilst the main attraction is the incredible dining experience (which I’ll mention later in this post), this visit had much more to offer too. The whisky tasting prior to dinner was unique, comprising a thoughtful mixture of classical and modern distilleries. Overall it was fun and informative and a great way to start the evening. Back to the main event. The tasting menu and drinks pairing were meticulously thought out. Bringing together the best of Scottish produce with creative and in some cases unexpected combinations. It can not be understated how enjoyable the meal was. Aside from this, the hosts were fantastic! Bringing a very relaxed and flexible approach to our experience. Finally, the rooms were in immaculate condition. Overall the best way to describe this experience was novel. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stayed here on Wednesday evening. What a treat!! The property has recently been fully renovated and it is easy glamour at it's best. Warm and welcoming from the decor to the staff. Everything couldn't have been done better. Great fun in the cocktail bar with some outstanding original concoctions followed by a most excellent tasting menu. The food was exceptional and innovative and although some courses sounded a little dubious, we thoroughly enjoyed everything that was put in front of us. The amazing meal was followed by a peaceful night's sleep in our beautifully appointed bedroom. Wonderful Scottish cosmetics supplied in the bathroom. Breakfast was the final delight with yet more delicious taste sensations. We could not recommend Killiecrankie House more highly and will definitely be returning soon. Well done to Matilda, Tom and their team. Hope it is an outstanding success!

I had a wonderful stay at Killiecrankie House during half term. The decor is fabulous, the rooms luxurious and comfortable and the food fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the cured mackerel and the “porridge”. I won’t give any more away! Tom, Matilda and the rest of the team have started something really special here, and I can’t wait to return in the new year.

We had an amazing evening at Killicrankie House. Tom, Matilda and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food is incredible and the menu really cleverly put together. Matilda has put a huge amount of effort into the non-alcoholic drinks pairing which really helps the driver to feel part of the evening too. They have done a great job renovating as it is completely different to the old Killiecrankie. We will definitely come back next time we are in the area.

A fantastic fine dining experience surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside. Killiekrankie House itself has been renovated to 5* standards and offers spacious luxury bedrooms for those that want to spend the night here after dinner. We particularly enjoyed the intimate bar with their large selection of whiskies and extensive cocktail menu - although they will pretty much make you anything you ask for if you have specific requests. All the staff were very friendly and it was a very relaxed and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday evening. Will definitely be returning.

A must visit if you’re in the area, or passing through! I ate here last weekend and stayed overnight. The tasting menu was exquisite and adventurous, and the team are warm and attentive. The property itself has been restored beautifully by the new owners, and the bedrooms are gorgeous and super comfortable. It has a great little cocktail bar too with loads of whisky for a post (or pre!) dinner dram. A real fine dining experience without any stuffiness, I can’t wait to return

Had dinner here last night and it was unlike any meal I’ve had in a long time. The food felt so much of the place and the time. The whole menu had a narrative (like the mouldy food inspired by penicillin invented in Scotland) and the team were so friendly and welcoming you barely want to leave.

A great evening. Beautifully prepared and served meal. The colours and positioning of the vegetable selection, the carefully cooked food, the wide choice of menu, the attentive service, the cosy ambience. What a lovely evening. I would recommend highly to anyone interested in giving it a try.

Beautifully presented hotel and restaurant. This was our first visit to Cairn Lodge for a family dinner. We were unfortunately disappointed by the standard of food, particularly the ribeye steaks. Fillet steaks looked amazing, however the ribeyes appeared to be sourced from a different supplier, lacking flavour and being overcooked. It would have been appreciated if someone had inquired about our main course, as we would have shared our thoughts. I sensed that the staff may have been hesitant to engage with us after serving the steaks, likely due to their awareness of the quality issues.

This is a fantastic little cafe/coffee shop in Alyth. Very friendly and food and coffee are great. Mike, the owner, takes great pride in his work - and is a wonderful cook. We’d particularly recommend the pizzas and paninis!
