Excellent noodle dishes including Pho and Bun Sa sold at competitive prices, served with speedy and smiley service. The Padan leaf tea is particularly good and took me and my partner back to a hotel in Hanoi

I ordered a take out of tofu summer rolls and tofu with lemongrass and chili via uber eats. It was really dismal. No lemon grass in the tofu. The summer rolls were bland and inedible. It really did not taste vietnamese. More like a really awful cheap Chinese.

A good friend treated me to a belated birthday meal and I wish she had saved the £80 she ended up spending. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great! The salted squid dish arrived cold, around 10 mins after the satay chicken was delivered. It would have been nice to have had all the starters on the table at the same time. The chicken satay was good, but it’s hard to mess that up! For mains, the mango salad was ordered along with rice noodles, sizzling chicken in black bean sauce and the fish with dill. The chicken was chewy and the sauce tasteless, some of the mangoes in the salad still had their skin on and the fish came with an after taste which made them inedible, eaten begrudgingly by my friend who was hungry, I couldn’t. We spoke to the management who took the defensive and blamed Waitrose- where the mangoes had been bought and told us the fish tasted exactly as it should. He was so rude, I asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill. And I don’t like to do this as I know how the hospitality industry is struggling, but this guy insinuated we were to blame for the food not being up to scratch . Such a shame as we were both looking forward to visiting this restaurant, that my friend had frequented approx 15 years ago and had raved about over the last few months. For a well established, long running restaurant this was disappointing and maybe the owners need to take customer feedback more seriously. Apologies to the nice young lady who served us who was disadvantaged from the removal of the service charge due to the extremely rude head waiter/ owner.

Been here a number of times. Several times I had a good experience but the last time disappointed me and I won't go back. The service was unfriendly, the pregnant server was coughing everywhere, staff were on their phones, we were ushered out at the exact minute of closing time. I spent £85 for 2 people which seemed greatly exaggerated for that kind of atmosphere.

2024 update. New management, no longer recommended. Original 2016 review: Wonderful and relaxed family run restaurant. Service is geniune and friendly although without a flourish. Vietnamese food is full of delicious flavours, but be aware there are some duds on this menu. Fabulous flavours that never let me down include summer rolls and spring rolls, beef with morning glory, sizzling aubergine, all bún noodle variants, the pork belly and egg coconut stew, and the sugar cane with shrimp paste.

This place is an institution. They keep the high standard of flavourful food for decades! They really should receive an award from the council. The soft-shell crab is perfectly light and crispy. The bun cha ca (fish soup) and the bun hue (spicy pho) are fabulously complex, with rich broth and fresh herbs on the side. The Vietnamese tea is always refreshing. The staff is kind, polite and professional. On a recent trip to Vietnam (Hanoi), I’ve had pho soups in many of the most famous stalls and restaurants. Believe it or not, for me, the Khoi pho is better!! I wish the place was always filled with customers, as they deserve it. Little bit of local trivia: Ho Chi Minh lived in Crouch End in the early decades of the twentieth century! I’m sure he too would have loved the Khoi pho!

I didn’t have much expectations of the place but it was pretty good! I felt the Bun Bo Hue deserved a 4 star, but the Bun Cha was a little lacking. I really enjoyed my Bun Bo Hue. The broth was wholesome and rich with flavour (without the cloying sweetness of MSG) the bun (round thin rice noodles) were smooth and silky (a lil chewy but all good) the beef was unfortunately over cooked which was the only negative. But I happily slurped the noodles with the crunchy bean sprouts with shreds of mint that really lifted the whole flavour of the broth. We also had the Bun Cha Sa Chay (vegetarian noodle salad) which was ok but could do with more veggies and herbs rather than the copious amount of noodles. Service was efficient and fuss free. They were very friendly and the waitress chatted with me a little about Vietnam. Simple ambiance, tables well spaced enough to not overhear other people’s conversations.

Ordered half a dozen dishes on deliveroo, but only two were delivered along with some rice that hadn't been ordered. Phoned the restaurant and explained the situation, the man who answered said the restaurant would sort it and phone me back in minutes. Heard nothing so phoned back 15 minutes later ... multiple times since they seemed to be avoiding answering the calls. Finally, a different man answered, who claimed to be the manager but seemed to think he didn't need to apologize and the problem was nothing to do with him "since he had just arrived at the restaurant". He became increasingly rude and unhelpful, finally telling us to claim on ubereats or deliveroo - the fact he didn't know which suggested he had made no effort to check the order - and then rang off. Curiously, wont be giving them any custom in the future.

Fancying a vietnamese as a Sunday night treat we ordered a Deliveroo based on the good reviews here. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. Our summer rolls were bland, missing the mint and other herbs that give them flavour and also no dipping sauce as promised. Our main course of sizzling chicken turned out to be a satay chicken starter, or at least we think that's what it was, pretty dry and no good with the rice we'd ordered - too late to do anything about it as we wanted to eat rather than argue the toss on the phone. Our singapore noodles were ok albeit pretty oily. For £40 we expected much, much better and ended up feeling really let down.

Really wanted to like this place as local and I love Vietnamese food. Sadly did not live up to expectations. Good service but food not really up to scratch. We had the summer rolls - OK but could have done with more herbs and tastier prawns. The paper wrapped prawns were good. Main course was a disappointment. The mango salad used overripe mango!!! Surely it should be green mango? Instead of being tangy, crispy and fresh, it was a sweet mush. The morning glory, the staple of Vietnam was another mush. More liked overcooked spinach swimming in some brown gravy. I have travelled up and down Vietnam and had morning glory at least once a day and have never seen it served like that. We tried the "new dish" - Hanoi pork patties with rice noodles - well did not live up to the hype. I'm afraid the patties were tasteless and the belly pork tough. Sorry Khoai Cafe - but you will need to up your game.

From the time we stepped foot in the restaurant, we were greeted with such warmth by the waiters and shown to our seats. We started off with 5 Spring rolls and Prawn toasts. They were both really lovely, but the Prawn toast was one of the best I've ever tasted and not greasy at all, like others I have tasted. The spring rolls were full of flavour and tasty. For the Mains, I had grilled pork belly, served with noodles & salad and my partner had pork in a beautiful sauce with scotch eggs. Both meals were again, absolutely gorgeous and cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared banana fritters, served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with nuts. This was one of the best banana fritters we've tasted to date. Loved everything about the restaurant. Staff made us feel very welcome and appreciated. The decor was very nice too. It feels like an end of an era! They will always be part of Crouch End for us! On the other hand, they have been training the new owners in the kitchen for months and (drumroll…): they did an AMAZING job, great pho and bun hue! Perhaps there was slightly less broth in the bowl than we are used to. But the soft shell crab was crispier and nicer. The new people are very polite and eager to make an impression, so we might even see many improvements. Just don’t change what works well, please! We popped in on Friday night without a booking and luckily managed to get a table. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The menu is quite large, with the traditional items listed you would expect on the menu. I was really happy and intrigued...

I love this place. It's unpretentious and the food is great for the price. I really like the Hanoi fish, it come sizzling on a plate and is delicious.

The food was perfectly edible. But none was great or even good. There are just some restaurants that are tired and don't particularly care about what they are serving. This is one of those. Not worth your time.

We love this place! Food is amazing and staff is very friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Can be a bit cramped and stuffy as its a small place but definitely worth it if you're near.

Been coming here for years. Love their Chicken pho! Great food, I just wish they would offer a larger portion... I always leave wishing they offered a properly larger portion of pho.

It's nice to have a local spot for Vietnamese rather than needing to go to Hackney/Kingsland Road. It's cosy to sit in and convenient for a takeaway. I don't tend to go for a Pho as i think that there are too many noodles in it. Instead i would recommend the Canh Chua soup which is like a version of hot and sour with okra, pineapple and tamarind, the Hanoi grilled fish, papaya salad, beef and morning glory. singapore noodles (they can do a veggie version or omit the pork on request), and squid starter. They do a mean cold coffee too.

The staff are friendly and bubbly.Very quick service. We enjoyed the speciality dishes noodle soups, rice vermicelli with crushed peanuts and seafood. The very rich Vietnamese coffee is certainly worth a try. It's easy to see why this restaurant is popular with the locals.
