Keiller Brasserie in Aberdeenshire

Absolutely wonderful food - one of the best meals we've had in years - no kidding. As a family of four, we had three different steaks, and a HUGE fish and chips, and every meal was cooked perfectly (steaks: medium-well rib-eye, medium rump and medium-rare fillet) - the chips were seriously the best any of us has had in goodness knows how long. Our starters were also top notch - rich and flavourful pate; creamy, good-quality burrata; and interesting and extremely tasty beetroot falafel - we could not get enough of them all. And the wine - an excellent selection, but still reasonably priced. Ballater is such a lovely place for a holiday, and this restaurant is a fabulous place to treat yourselves (not that its overly expensive - for the quality of the food and the lovely service, its worth every penny), especially after a good trek in the hills. Visit the brasserie, you will not be disappointed! And thank you to the lovely, respectful and polite staff - we had a wonderful evening - and its so lovely to feel welcome and not rushed in any way.

Mid week birthday dinner. Clean modern restaurant with a lively atmosphere. Good menu for Scottish fare. I had venison cooked as I like it. Partner had fish perfectly cooked. Nice helpful staff. I think it was a fair price for what we had. I would go back.

Die Qualität des Essens war gut, allerdings sollte man sich auf drei Gänge einstellen, wenn man hungrig ist. Die Portionen, vor allem bei den veggie Varianten, sind extrem klein. Der Service ist sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.

Our 4th time staying at this resort. Had dinner and food was great but service the worst we have ever had in this restaurant. Plates placed on table and no further contact from server.I wanted to order another glass of wine and a desert.As I couldn't make contact with server and plates had not even been cleared from table,just decided to pay up and go

We were staying in Ballater for a week at the end of September, and ate at the Keillor Brasserie 3 times. We holiday in Ballater twice a year and we’ve always been a bit disappointed in the restaurant choices we have made in the past. This year however, we really enjoyed our three evening meals in the Brasserie. The food was excellent and very well presented, and the staff had an excellent customer service approach, and were all very helpful, friendly and efficient. There was a very good atmosphere in the restaurant, and the prices for the choice and quality of the food on the menu, were very reasonable. We will certainly visit the Brasserie again, when we’re next in Ballater, and can certainly recommend it to anyone spending time in this lovely village.

We had heard about steak night when we checked in, and were looking forward to it being the dining highlight of our time in Scotland. While it was good, there were a few misses. Since we were there for steak night, we were expecting the steaks to be near perfect, but unfortunately, they were not cut or cooked properly. As a trained meat-cutter, I was very surprised that one of our party that had ordered a filet got the butt-cut, which is on the fat end of the tenderloin. She insisted that it wasn't filet, but I assured her that it was filet, just poorly cut and trimmed. Normally, the round part is cut off so that the steak has two flat sides for even cooking. My husband and I shared the chateaubriand, and both our steak and the tenderloin, which were ordered rare, came rare in the middle, but the fully cooked portion penetrated a half inch in, so most of the steak was overcooked. The peppercorn sauce that I ordered was the favorite at the table, and it was quite good. The au jus and blue cheese sauces were also tasty, but the Drambuie and mustard sauce was bland. The fourth member of our party ordered medium sirloin, and he was happy with his steak. Also, I thought the veggies were a much better choice than the salad with honey mustard dressing, and the new potatoes were pretty plain too. The churros dessert was very nice. I should mention that Lucie, our server, was absolutely delightful! She was a hoot, and had us cracking up at her quick wit.

Staff and service was very good , the food was very nice although perhaps a bit overpriced . would probably return.

Just home from our yearly visit to Craigendarroch. We were delighted to find out the Brasserie had reopened the few days prior.We always enjoy a few drinks in the lounge throughout our stay and we’d like to especially thank Martin for his attentiveness,professionalism and friendly manner,he is an asset to the hotel. We had dinner in the Brasserie on the Sunday night and as before the high standard of food and service were second to none.The ambiance is lovely there,a different atmosphere from the bar and so lovely to see it open and busy again after so long. One of the best places to eat in Ballater,can’t wait to return.

My wife and I stopped in here for afternoon drinks and returned for dinner later the same evening. The staff were friendly, attentive, and pleasant. The dining area was rather agreeable, with leather plush seating and generous space between tables. The fish and chips we ate were decent. Although the fish batter was slightly overdone, the fish itself was flaky and moist. The chips were well-cooked and tasty with thick-cut potatoes and the included peas were equally enjoyable. Although we opted to skip either a starter or dessert, the menu was adequately varied with plenty to choose. The wine and drinks list was quite extensive, but about half the wine varieties were only available by the bottle which was disappointing. I like dry wine and my wife prefers something a little sweeter, but buying a full bottle of both options wasn’t realistic at about £40 or more per bottle. In all, we had a nice dinner with the restaurant itself, the staff, and sufficient food quality each adding to the experience.

This is a nice place to have a meal with great views and a good vibe when it’s busy. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and the service is super friendly and helpful. It’s a shame that such a beautiful room doesn’t have a log burner or open fire for that full on cosy winter feeling - the lit up electric fires don’t really cut it, but on a summer evening this place would be 5 stars for location, food and service

We looked forward to the food we ordered which sounded good on the menu, however, the food was abysmal. One dish was eaten as we were hungry but how can you have a vegetable dish with hardly any vegetables. The other dish, a fish dish was sent back for an alternative which was just as disappointing. Didn't bother returning!

10 of us had a meal here and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant was busy and had a good atmosphere. As with many other restaurants there was a lack of staff and those on duty were struggling to cope.

Been there many times before just popped in for coffee and cake place very quiet coffee and carrot cake good. Was there a couple of months ago and there was a deal on so I asked when I ordered and was told there was. When I went to pay this guy said there was no deal on and wanted full price. He asked the girl who admitted she said it and finally gave me at the price it should have been.

I visited the Keiller Brasserie with friends for the Steak Night. On arrival we enjoyed a drink in the beautiful lounge before moving through to the equally lovely resturant. The staff were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicous. I'll definitely be back!

The Keiller bar and restaurant is located in the Hilton Grand Vacations Club. It was re-vamped a few years ago. The bar area is fantastic ( especially for people who like to sit at the bar) and the bar staff excellent.It's essential to make reservations for the restaurant. Again, the service is excellent and the food very good. I love the traditional fish and chips 'though there are also more innovative dishes.

We had our Christmas lunch at this restaurant and we were delighted with the service and high quality of the food. It just couldn’t have been better and all boxes were ticked. We were so pleased that we are returning when we are up on our Craigendarroch timeshare week. Top marks all round.

I write this with a heavy heart. Our family have been lodge owners for 25 years. With all the developments over the past 2-3 years we have gone from “this place is getting really tired” to “fab they have invested some money” and a real belief the resort is turning a corner. Seemingly not. I have read the reviews since dining this time and seemingly I am not alone - the common thread is poor service, hit and miss food and small portions. Our experience exactly. I questioned whether to bother writing on here but felt the need, I will follow this up with a direct letter to the owners committee as it simply is NOT good enough, not for us, not for the resort, not for Hilton. I will no doubt, on here, get the mandatory response from “Colin” saying he will pass this on to the Head Chef for comment as is the standard response looking at the reviews .... should you respond “Colin” please do so in respect of what are the said comments of the chef as I am intrigued? P.S I will not be able to respond further, as is trip advisor, so please do avoid the blue sky approach and address the common complain of service, food, potion size in order to satisfy my disappointment.... thank you in advance.

Seeing how the club house has evolved over the recent years is amazing, the staff are friendly, food is decent for what they have and its child friendly. Only reason it isn't 5 stars is that we were nearly charged for someone food and drink who has been at our table. When busy they clearly cannot keep track of tables as comment was it happens a lot so surely they loose money if people take advantage of this...

We ate here a number of times while staying at the attached Hilton timeshare. It’s a small restaurant with a decent staff who can sometimes seem overwhelmed. The steaks are local, highland cattle, there is a vegetarian item, the menu changes often, and the entrees are nicely sized. The wine list is decent with wines from France, South Africa, Argentina and Chile. We enjoyed the three dinners and two breakfasts we had here.

If you use the restaurant every day, if staying in the hotel or lodges, the menu is limited. Really stuffed if vegetarian unless you like a slice of cauliflower...that was all that was on offer at time of visit. Quality OK but overall the atmosphere has gone down hill since employing non-local / overseas staff. Eat in the bar, not the restaurant.....you get much more tasty choices AND FISH & CHIPS!! No longer available on restaurant menu ...why?? why 'O why??

We eat here every year and usually enjoy it, not this time very limited grill menu you would be better off eating in the bar. £7,70 for a glass of wine shocking,. Won't be back

Situated within the Hilton at Craigendarroch and hence a reputation to live up to. Worth a visit though as the food is very good, it is very reasonably priced and the service attentive.

The Keiller is a great restaurant

We are HGVC club owners from the US and this is our first time visiting. We enjoy visiting the lounge after a day of sightseeing and relaxing with a beverage. Martin Kearney greets us each night and inquires about our activities that day. We look forward to seeing him at the end of our day.

Just been out for dinner at Keiller and it was quite good, salmon cooked perfectly and mash potato was nice. Didnt think much of goats cheese starter though. Panna cotta - very good. Cheesecake just okay. Probably would recomment .

We were pleasantly surprised at our recent visit to the revamped restaurant. The service was very pleasant and generally efficient and most of the food very good - that was certainly true of the steaks chosen by all the adults in the party, although my husband was less than impressed with his prawn cocktail starter.

There was a time when this was a safe bet in Ballater for good value, if not exciting, food in pleasant surroundings. But on the last two visits I have seen standards slip badly. The chicken curry I had last night was nothing special and the mini papadums were not longer crisp. Naan small and dull. Very limited selection of beer on tap.

For a high class establishment it was the worst dining experience ever!!! Very poor menu, not much selection, Ignored by staff, no drink order and half the starters forgotten about. It turned the mood of the group sour to such a degree we asked to pay for what we had eaten and leave. Staying on the resort and dining here in the past I now would not recommend food, if dining out is required then go into Ballater itself.

Could die of thirst waiting to order a drink, food order well I could have cooked a meal quicker. Waiting staff ignore you and rush about clueless

Having thoroughly enjoyed meals in this restaurant intermittently over the past 5 years, it was disappointing that the standards of cooking have dipped.

Went here for dinner with our son and his girlfriend who were visiting from Newcastle. We looked at the menu on their website beforehand and thought there was a great choice so were looking forward to our meal. However when we got there the only main courses on the menu were 5 choices from the grill plus 1 vegetarian option. The food we had was good but the choice was very disappointing. Probably won't go again if this is going to be their permanent menu,

The Keillor, the “better” restaurant at the Craigendarroch resort is up a few steps in the main building. Despite being windowless, it looks attractive with a few banquettes and comfortable chairs. The welcome was pleasant, but service throughout was fitful. Things didn’t quite all arrive when they should and we waited a bit before we could get the (short, but adequate) wine list. This was Sunday, so roast beef with Yorkshire was on the menu and was tasty. The mini mixed grill two of us had was OK, though my steak - requested rare - was medium and rather tough and the small lamb cutlet also overlooked. The roast potatoes were rather charred. Starters of smoked salmon with haggis and mushroom soup were quite good. It was standard fare for puddings, all of which were OK, but no better. For such a high profile time share complex, this was overall a rather disappointing meal.

Went with a group of friends for a special meal and we were pretty disappointed, with only 1 vegetarian option on the menu, cauliflower steak which was pretty much a large slice of cauliflower with a few bits of broccoli and a small amount of chips, price was pretty much the same for a meat main course, the goats cheese pate starter was lovely, service was good and friendly, but I am afraid the main course was a let down, other members of the part advised that they were pretty disappointed with their meals as well.

The same kitchen serves the brasserie and the lounge though there's not much overlap in the menus. The lounge is unsurprising but good bar food and can be a bit slow when busy (It is is "the club" to a hundred plus timeshare villas and suites) but the staff are never flustered and very communicative and usually explain the expected delivery time.

Being a restaurant within the timeshare property, we thought it would be expensive but we found the prices to be very reasonable and the food very tasty.

The hotel / club restaurant is in the club part of the hilton hotel It is a nice place to eat with a good choice of dishes at various prices. The service is steady, sometimes abit slow at busy times. It is better to book a table on the weekends.

Lovely meal on the last night of our break. Lovely decor,friendly staff and beautiful dishes and table settings. Prawn cocktails were served in a 3 dish pyramid stack which was both decorative and delicious. Main and desserts were also delicious. Ended with really nice coffee. Great night to end our holiday.

Would advise booking as it's not huge. Great food and very friendly staff. Itdoes have a few stairs to get in, however there is another entry via the main hotel.

We made a visit to the Craigendarroch to make use of the dip & dine offer. (£24.50 adult, £14.50 child). After a very enjoyable swim and use of sauna and steam room both adults and children were very hungry and headed to grab our food. Firstly there was no suitable tables to accommodate our party of 9. Once free we moved to a more suitable booth. We had a extremely long wait for our food and the kids were starving and asking where the food was. We ordered starters and mains. The portions were shocking. Extremely small. So small that the starters were pretty much the same size as the mains and the kids portions consisted of 4 chicken nuggets and a small pot of chips. Some orders were forgotten dispose asking for our starters with our mains the mains came out first. And a children’s order completely forgotten. The quality of the food was ok. After complaining to one member of staff. A waiter asked what was wrong and did give us our drinks for free but the entire dining experience as not great and really let the day down. Highly disappointing and not worth the money.

We had our last dinner of 2018 at the Keiller Brasserie. Food was good, service too. Wine was OK (Prosecco rosé was not the greatest). We dind't stay for the midnight celbrations as the place was too crowded.

£8.75 for three rather small pieces of cheese one of them only a sliver!! Very disappointed. A bit of a rip off. Lots of crackers but not enough cheese. Have eaten here before and never had any complaints.

Had meals in the lounge and restaurant. Service was excellent, food delicious and plenty of choice. Not budget fast food - fresh cooked and presented nicely and hot. Will definitely go again. Highly recommend.

Visited the cafe/bar after swimming with my one year old grandson. Ordered a coffee and a bacon roll advertised as three rashers of crispy bacon in a long bun also a child's pizza and fries. I was served my coffee, then 20 minutes later the child's meal arrived. Pizza was your run of the mill supermarket frozen rubbish and the fries looked ok but were uncooked inside. After reminding staff of the bacon roll it eventually arrived but it was not crispy as stated on the menu. Had to pick off all the big bits of fat off with my fingers as I did not get any cutlery or a napkin . I had to go and ask for some ketchup as there were no condiments on the table either. By this time the coffee I was keeping to have along with my bacon roll was stone cold. While paying for the food I told the staff member about the non crispy bacon and the hard uncooked chips. Staff member said I should have said at the time and they would have redone the chips but it is quite hard to keep a hungry baby waiting for another 20 minutes. As for the bacon I was told I had to ask for it to be crispy????? even though it says crispy bacon on the menu. I stay locally and I am a club member and have been visiting the Craigendarroch for over 25 years. It just gets worse and worse.

Had dinner there last night. We were made welcome by the staff and looked after really well. Tip: They do try to put everyone close together despite there being plenty room to space everyone out - which got a little bit uncomfortable last night as we were sitting right next to others when there was no need. So, you just have to say that you would like a different table and it’s no problem. We had a laugh about it with the other diners.

We wandered up from Ballater for lunch with our 2 kids and their friends. Service was very slow from the moment we arrived. Slow to clear the table from the previous occupants, slow to give us menus, take our orders, etc. etc.

Can’t recommend highly enough! Service is superb, staff fantastic and food is amazing! The menu choice is great. Well done to the unseen staff in the kitchen! Decor lovely and very comfortable.

I'm an American living in Scotland, about an hour from this place actually. Hubby is Scottish so we both look for different things but on this "bar/lounge" we agreed. The first impression is, are we in an airport lounge or a Scottish highlands hotel bar? We've stayed at some of the nicest, some not so expensive but wonderful places and every one felt like Scotland. Not here. No warm fire, no friendly bartender talking whisky with the husband, a server who looked miserable doing her job and a pint of Guinness served in a funky glass, not a pint glass. Their visible whisky selection was very American and the Scottish whisky they had weren't the best representation the area has to offer. It was just not a welcoming space and we both felt immediately regretful that we didn't stay at any of the many Highland hotels of various price ranges that offer a warm, inviting, and friendly atmosphere to its guests (I'll get to the hotel and restaurant later)

Had a meal here today....would advise people not to book this.Chef should be sacked...unable to cook a rib eye steak.Have a booking for Friday coming...will cancel.Hilton should be ashamed to put their name to this brasserie

We went for a family meal on Saturday. As we were staying in a lodge this meant that we could enjoy a meal and drink and didn't need to head out in the car. The staff were friendly and reliable, and food was consistently good - we enjoyed the burgers and the fish and chips, and we had a very pleasant meal. All very enjoyable.

Very friendly staff and a nice restaurant. My friends had chateaubriand for 2 and it was very good. I however had the tomahawk cut steak and it was not very good. Liked the place but would not order my steak.

We could not fault the service or the quality, but at the end of the day £190 for one course with trimmings for four was absurd.

Return visit, usually leave with good experience and enjoyment. There appeared to be little if no organisation, five out of our six meals were frankly terrible. No management to discuss with, eventually a member of the kitchen staff appeared stating the managers were off for the night !! The chef - agreed the results were poor and frankly not up to any standard. An indifferent feeling from staff with a wish to just get away from a badly run, poor food establishment. Value for money poor, The management need to get to grips with what is going on, not be away when the place is busy.

At two meals here. Decent wine by the glass and good food. Not fancy but all food was well presented. Service a bit spotty.

Considering this is a Hilton hotel, the brasserie could provide a much nicer menu. The restaurant is lovely and the food delicious.

We ate twice here during our week at HGVC. The food and service were impeccable. I had both lamb and steak and my husband had the mixed grill twice! The desserts are amazing, especially the strawberry bavarois. We will return.

We ate in the bar which has a selection of high tables with bar stools and lower level tables and arm chairs and sofas. The menu is standard bar fare - sandwiches, salads, pie, fish and chips. Service was prompt.

Great food, great desserts & wine selection. The pork, sea bass, steak, soups, sandwiches and burgers are excellent. Great to eat at if not in mood to walk to town or pooped after your day of touring Scotland

We have often used the brasserie and lounge on our family trips to. Ballater in the past however in recent years we have not used it much as we were disappointed with the food choice. However this year we decided to give it another go and sample both locations. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the food. We had an excellent dinner with all your usual Scottish favourites cooked to perfection then breakfast was just what we needed before travelling back home. Visited the Keiler restaurant last night was quickly shown to a table came took our drinks order and then the food order had 3 different waiting staff all superb nothing to much trouble came with bread which is a rarity nowadays food was first class very reasonably priced

While staying at the Hilton resort we ate at the Keiller Brasserie and across at the Lounge. The Chicken Curry dish was very good, as was the Haddock and Chips. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. At other Hilton Grand Vacations properties the restaurants are either non-existent, feature humongous buffet spreads, or don’t really capture the local flavor. This one is better than any of the HGV restaurants we’ve visited in the States.

Had coffee on arrival then we had lunch food brilliant staff superb nothing to much trouble also they organised a birthday cake again no hassle and all the staff and other guests in the hotel sung Happy Birthday making it a very special memorable day huge thank you to them

Have just spent 5 nights at Hilton Craiggendaroch and have dinned frequently in both the Brasserie and the Lounge and never had a poor meal. Staff are both attentive and friendly. Prices are very competitive and think it would be hard to find fault.

From a breakfast buffet to delicious soup and sandwiches to high quality locally sourced steak night on Wednesday’s you will find an upscale yet moderately priced restaurant in the Hilton. The platings are with a flair, the portions generous and the staff works hard to provide attention when busy. We enjoyed three meals and were fully satisfied with each. Don’t miss the carrot cake or whiskey flavored ice creams.

We ate at the Keillor Lounge - we were not staying at the resort. Service wasn’t great, slow and no consistency of serving staff. Asked for sauce....still waiting. Our waiter had a very odd manner (very black hair/eyebrows) and was disinirerested and quite off putting with his manner. Meal was ok although lukewarm when it finally arrived. Had a long wait for a desert menu (asked 3 times) then deserts slapped down. We felt like we were an inconvenience to our waiter, Lounge very noisy with scraping chairs and lots of children careering around. Wouldn’t be in a rush to return unless you improve your customer service.

Serving staff not welcoming nor did he offer any level of service. VERY odd manner. Food lukewarm. Noisy lounge with scraping chairs and screaming kids.

Food standard excellent, service acceptable and pleasant, good wine list, choice reasonable ambience interesting with interesting guests

Very disappointed as was hoping for better. Nice decor, but very average food and drink. Staff attentive but certain staff ( Theo ) very arrogant and rude . He ruined one family meal with his apathetic attitude to his job. Far better restaurants in area with staff who actually make you feel welcome

Nice place, great service with a friendly smile. Menu offering maybe could be better value and choice in lounge expanded a little.
