This museum is huge and it had a lot more than I expected! They had the history of Scotland, natural history, biological exhibits, and interactive exhibits. I loved the rooftop where you could see across the whole city. I also love how it’s free entry but you can donate if you want. Definitely plan to be here for a while!

Awesome!! Definitely I will come back if I am back in Edinburgh. There is a lot of variety in what you can find here... Spans a lot of different topics to satisfy the curiosity of almost everyone. The building itself is also very nice in it's architecture.

Located just walking distance from Old Town. Admission free, recommend about 3hrs. The museum features more international collections. I must credit them for the wide selection & very organized display. However, I must admit that I am quite disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing more of Scottish deep history. Overall, it was a happy visit.

This museum has an eclectic collection with a bit of everything - prehistory, fashion, aeroplanes, Scottish history, Egyptology. The building is beautiful and thanks to a modern extension which is much in keeping with the original you can access a roof terrace with extensive views.

Entrance is free. The museum combines a natural history collection, a science collection and a Scotland history wing. It is quite big so you will need probably 6+ hours to check it out, but is free so you can do it in parts. It has some activities for kids and interactive exhibitions, it seems to be disability friendly and it has very kind staff. Highly recommended if you have some free time. Unfortunately pictographs inside are generally not allowed, except in certain areas.

Where to start. This museum has so much in one place. There is so much to see and so many interactive experiences to do. I got there right when it opened at 10 and did not leave until past 3. I loved seeing all of the Scottish History artifacts and the science center was so cool as well. The taxidermy seemed a little worse for wear, but Dolly the sheep looked great. There were so many kids there when I visited on a Monday, so it was very loud. I just can’t believe this place is free.

The museum has a lot of rooms to see, I recommend getting a map because at a point it feels like a maze due to the size of it. There is a lot of short and useful information. Lifts and areas to take breaks as well as a cafe for lunch. The large rooms are filled with activities such as launching rockets, driving an F1 car, and hot air balloons. It doesn't get boring, just tiring, so do take breaks. Overall, it was a very wonderful museum.
