Jolly Gin and Craft in Falkirk

Turned up for our Wowcher meal. Total chaos. Bar had run out of beer and chef hadn't turned up. As we were there had a glass of wine each, charged £6 each per small measure for a mediocre supermarket plonk. Tried several times to rebook, they never answered phone or replied to emails. Transpires they also redeemed my Wowcher. Resturant now permanently closed. Not surprised.

Myself and 5 friends had booked an afternoon tea for Sunday at 2.30. We arrived to find that the venue was closed with no notice advising why. When we contacted woucher they said our vouchers had been redeemed and they couldn’t do anything. Very poor show!

Absolute disaster of a place. Left after no service after 30 minutes. Staff have no service skills. Sticky tables and broken tiles on the floor, no working lock in the toilets. We had a voucher and have accepted a 50% refund instead of food from this dive. I asked to speak to a manager and i was informed i couldnt as he was busy cooking as the chef had walked out a week prior. No apologies and no attempt to be professional. Avoid at all costs.

We booked to go here 2 weeks ago………an hour before our booking we had a call to advise the chef had a bereavement in the family so booking was cancelled! Rebooked for Saturday lunch, as we were arriving we received a call to say that the chef was in an accident and thus they needed to cancel booking………very unlucky guy! Since we were pretty much there decided to pop in and see what was really happening! The atmosphere was terrible, dirty tables and we could hear tables complaining. Two groups decided to leave with moments of us arriving! We asked the server what was going on, apparently they had run out of most food……..4pm on a Sunday! We thought we would stay for a drink for a laugh………no draught soft or alcoholic drink, no Prosecco, no red wine! The poor waiting staff haven’t been paid, clearly a business on it knees, sad situation but dishonesty and exploration of young stuff isn’t right. A pub with no food or drink is best avoided, just a waste of our time!

I feared our experience was particularly bad as it seemed a table of 5 middle aged women in at that same time were experiencing significantly better service than us, but it's oddly reassuring to read these reviews which are almost identical to our experience. Had a voucher for a boozy brunch, our first attempt to book was thwarted at 2 hours notice because the chef had failed to turn up and was therefore sacked (our subsequent experience and reading of these reviews makes me dubious of this explanation). Tried to call again many times a month later to rebook and left messages on the answer phone, which weren't responded to. We began to get very suspicious, but then got an email from itison stating the booking method had changed and we needed to email. Did so and, after a frankly bizarre exchange, our booking was confirmed. As soon as we arrived we could tell it was going to be a trial. It was not at all busy with maybe 5 other tables in total during the 2.5 hours we were there, and heaven help them and the customers if it ever does get busy (unlikely given these reviews). To sum up, it took 30 mins to get a drink and that was only because we went up to the bar to ask for them (despite being told drinks would be brought when we sat down), we were asked 4 times what sort of voucher we had, after an hour we were told our food order had been lost, our this order hadn't even been taken, when it finally came one order was wrong, we were very purposely ignored on multiple occasions, it seemed more important to staff to collect glasses than to serve us, we had to practically force the voucher number on them, the ladies toilets were disgusting, they couldn't make most cocktails on the menu. We all feel sorry for hospitality after the past 2 years, and understand teething troubles on reopening, but there's been time to iron out uncertainties and staff need to at least care about service. This was a rare trip out to a restaurant for us and the whole experience was frustrating, stressful and so disappointing. The Jolly is very clearly on its last legs which is really sad as it could be a lovely place. My advice to anyone is not to buy a voucher, if you have already done so, try to get a refund and if that's not possible book quickly as I predict this place will not be open for much longer. Its already been through many incarnations in the past 7 years, hopefully the next will be much, much better.

Poorly run. 1 staff member who was young. Was a shame for her but she had a full place to serve. Was there for 3 hours, had 2 drinks, food was rotten. Just a terrible place to go.

Bought a voucher for my partner for part of her Christmas as it’s local but what a joke as it took one hour and 20 mins to receive their first drink and it turns out they were not the only people . The manager was in the kitchen trying to cook lunch which never appeared and one little girl serving which was a joke this place is more like faulty towers and Basil was posted missing, never again this place should be CLOSED

Well, we had the most bizarre and chaotic experience at the Jolly. We’d bought a voucher for a savoury afternoon tea with cocktails online from Itison. We arrived to be sat down and shortly hear nearby tables moaning that they’d been there for times ranging from 40 mins to 1.5 hours waiting to be served. Eventually one customer managed to get a hold of some Prosecco which she preceded to serve to her party and other parties who had also bought vouchers and had been waiting an enormous amount of time without service. I’ve never seen a member of the public resort to serving them self and others due to a complete lack of service from the establishment. Most of the parties who’d been waiting decided to book elsewhere and leave. After about an hour and a half we’d had one cocktail and having asked several times, we were eventually informed that our food was on its way. Once it arrived we actually enjoyed the food and cocktails which were decent, a slight crumb of comfort after such a bewildering experience. At no point did staff explain to us what was happening or make any attempt to compensate for the shambolic experience. We wouldn’t have been that angry about having to wait, however the complete lack of any explanation or apology from the ignorant staff and having to ask several times in order to get any kind of service made this amongst the worst hospitality experiences we’ve ever had.

Waited 30 minutes after being seated to finally get asked about our voucher etc. No chef was working and the manager was in the kitchen. Everyone there was sitting waiting on service. DON'T NOT GO HERE!!!

What a complete disaster. No food available, manager had ran out to buy supplies at 7pm on a Saturday! No drinks on tap. Waited 20 minutes to be seated, a further 20 to get a menu. We just walked out in the end.

We would give ZERO POINTS if allowed. So we bought a voucher deal and hoped to book to use it whilst friends were up from London. Having checked the website and it said it was open, we travelled only to find out it was not!!!!!. We nipped up town 2 weeks ago as this voucher is near expiration date and jolly was open. I spoke to waitess who said they often close if they have no bookings. But she reassured us they are open Wednesday to Sunday despite Facebook and website saying open 7 days. We have TRIED COPIOUS amounts of times to call and received no joy despite leaving multiple messages. REALLY REALLY DISAPPOINTED this place still continues to sell vouchers for a place that NEVER OPENS AND NEVER ANSWERS THEIR PHONE. vouchers are now being cancelled. Do nor waste your time or your money on the JOLLY

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE JOLLY. The Jolly is a disaster. Use to be a great place to go for a nice cocktail in Falkirk however since the new owner has taken over the place has been run into the ground. They never have any stock and they don't pay their staff. So many staff members are owed hundreds of pounds yet the owner keeps putting up job adverts every time the staff members leave and there is now a never ending cycle of staff turnover and miss treatment. The guy has been handed court papers from multiple ex employees because of this issue however sadly very little can be done as the owner has never provided most of the workers with contracts which give them any rights. A horrible end to what was a really nice bar restaurant in Falkirk.

Well where do I start....booked for 12, however arrived 15 mins early and due to it pouring with rain decided to go in early and have a coffee before having lunch... but as we entered the pub we were met by a member if staff with attitude saying "we don't open until 12 but since it is raining you can come in". Sat for ages before offered a drink then was given menu to be told certain things wernt available. When meal did arrive starters were acceptable but I had ordered the fish and chips which was absolutely horrible and so was the dessert. It became very obvious after hearing staff chat and calling forthcoming customers and cancelling there meal reservations that they clearly had a problem or no chef. I had a voucher and glad that I did as would not have been happy paying full price for such a disappointing lunch. Was looking forward to a nice lunch with my daughter, however was very disappointed with the food. Wouldn't go back

Went for Santa breakfast 10-12 time slot. Not Christmassy at all. No one took our order until we were one hour and 20 minutes into the time slot. They only took our drinks order! No food or drink was served by this time 11:20! The children were tired and starving. The fellow customers went out to buy food because the children were all upset. When we left, the bartender said a refund would be easy to sort. He also said they didn't have much of the ingredients they needed to run the Santa breakfast! Trying to get a refund was a nightmare it has taken me a month and a half to get this with people responding saying they would sort it and it wasn't sorted. I've finally just got my refund. We were very disappointed with this event and would not recommend it to anyone.

Having visited a couple times before and really enjoyed our visit, our recent visit was absolutely nothing to be jolly about. We had booked for food and drinks which we were looking forward to however we got seated at a table which was very uncomfortable, we asked if we could move but were told no because it was busy, which it wasn’t. However for the duration of our visit, only 1 other table of 2 came in after us, who asked to move because they didn’t like their table got placed on the table that we asked to her move to - someone explain the logic in this to me. Our cocktails were nice. The food was bang average. The menu was very limited; there was a lot of dishes and cocktails that we were told couldn’t be done and on a small menu at the best of times, made choosing quite difficult. The waitress was friendly however it was clear she was quite embarrassed by the limited offering and having to explain this to customers. it’s a quirky place to go, a good location but definitely won’t be in a rush back and going by the other reviews it doesn’t look like I’m the only one. There’s many competitors in the area that would put this place to shame.

Real shame, lovely place poor drink and menu. No Guinness, no red wine. Menu is very limited, another casullty of Covid.
