Lovely fish and chips. Cannot fault at all 😊 Only went back to visit after learning it was under new ownership. Such a friendly service (unlike the rude miserable northerner who owned it before). No- not related to the current owner but it’s always lovely to pop in and get a warm reception and a delicious dinner.

I often come here for lunch during the week either with my friends or on my own. I always come back here as the food and service is amazing every time. I highly recommend visiting

I tried this place out today and honestly it's the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life it was amazing I don't know what they out in their batter but it was incredible I usually peel half the batter off but I ate all of this also the fish is fresh daily and has no skin on it the chef cooked it to perfection he knows his stuff. After looking at the extensive menu for ten minutes (they have ribs and chicken both cooked on the rotisserie amd they do authentic Greek gryos which my friend got and she said it was amazing I finally decided on the meal deal I got Cod chips and a can of drink for £10 which Is very good value for money the staff were amazing the girl on the till was very polite and helpful and the owner and chef were both lovely we had a good laugh together and they were both Greek cypriuts which I am also so we had a good chat about cypress. Not only the best fish and chips I've ever had but was also the best experience I have had at a shop/food establishment I will definitely be making this a weekly treat. 10/10 would recommend to anyone and I'm fussy with my food I uset to be a chef so no good food when I eat it. Also the portion was huge I was stuffed after and couldn't even finish all my chips.oh amd they also gave us both a chicken nugget to try and it was the best nugget I've ever had this shop sells nothing but the best

Very disappointing when compared with previous owners. Fish portions (cod and haddock) were barely medium, although large were ordered. Haddock was moist👍but the batter was disappointingly oily. Chips were a disappointment too… just mediocre. Overall, an expensive, mediocre meal.

‘Large cod’ was offensively small despite the price increase (as were the other fish types). The chips were average when compared to previous ownership and despite friendly staff.

Excellent fish and chips, great size portions. Cod bites are also delicious. Staff are super friendly and approachable. Chicken burgers are also really delicious. Food is fresh and fantastic quality.

Ordered before Christmas and the beans were missing not a major issue and can't fault the new manager very quick to apologise offered refund and a good will gesture (free chips). I only had chips previously as wasn't well, ordered fish tonight and definitely a shame £8 for a medium, now has skin and bones, appreciate that's not an issues for some but I'm fussy and am not a fan. After removing the skin really not that much fish and no longer the nice chunky flaky fish from before. Thought the service was lovely and very nice and friendly also the batter was very tasty curry sauce is better than before. I think we will return but probably not for the fish which is a shame being a fish and chip shop. Mixed feelings but wish the business all the luck and fingers crossed for a better fish offering in the future.

We visited this shop when John owned it and the food and service were perfect. Visited this shop Fri 16th De c met by chaos. We collected our food and it was cold and needed to be reheated. I was unable to find any fish within my batter and the chips were extremely greasy. Not impressed with the new owners and will not be returning. Other customers felt the same as a gentleman returned his whole family's dinner as the fish he felt was off! Other customers were complaining that they couldn't order over the phone. Now looking for the 2nd best fish shop in Burnham now John has left.

I had arrived not very hungry and was guided by the very friendly couple running the place towards an option on their menu of three small pieces of cod and half a portion of chips which was just right size for me. lTasted delicious probably because the fish was cooked to order and everything is fried in beef dripping . Just round the corner are some seats on the waterfront seats where you can eat with a wonderful view of the sea

Love this fish and chip shop. We often travel to Burnham for the best fish and chips. Always fresh and cooked while you wait. Have never had a bad one. Food consistently excellent. John and liz are lovely people, Always pleasant

Moved to burnham On crouch and fancied a nice bag of Fish And chips and came across jolly Fryers in the high street, and do you know what !! It's the best Cod Bites Haddock and chips very friendly staff & John is a characther you can phone your orders in or pop in and give your order but i wasn't dissapointed

Order two cod and chips, had a short wait as it was cooked fresh. The fish was spot on , Large chunky light cod in a loverly light crisp batter . The chips were cooked to perfection, crispy and fluffy with not a soggy chip...

You couldn't ask for better service or quality of food. Lovely people, who provide a great range of food at reasonable prices. The chips are cooked in beef fat and taste wonderful!

So glad we gave in to temptation and chose a fish and chip lunch. Light, crisp batter and succulent cod. Chips with flavour and crunch. Luckily the weather permitted us to eat this delicacy with a view of the river. Recommend!

Last minute decision to have a Fish and Chip supper. Friendly welcome, cheerful and helpful staff. Just a short while before closing on a Saturday evening and they cooked two portions of the nicest fish and chips I have had for a while. Excellent saveloy as well!! Spotless surroundings in this tiny shop and very good value for money. This will not be our last visit!!

We visited today and had a small tray of chips. After fighting over the last one in the tray, we returned for another, larger portion! Think they are fried in beef fat. Lovely staff, great prices, spotlessly clean and efficient. We have now found our new favourite chippy and will be returning soon (a mere 40 mile round trip!)

My wife and myself were in BOC on a Saturday afternoon at 5pm. We went in two pubs that had stopped serving food! We gave up and saw the Jolly Fryer fish and chip shop was open. How lucky were we! Tremendous cod and chips and the medium was a great portion. I've had fish and chips in seaside towns all over the country and I've never had better! It's a shame we live 200 miles away. I might have to return one day for another portion

Best fish and chip ever. Walked about 250 yards behind shop to sit on seawall to eat-best and only way to eat. If you turn left out of shop then 1st left you come to sea wall and seats. Cod and chips were freshly cooked and really tasty. The staff are also friendly as well. Highly recommended

The cod and chips are wonderful. The smallest portion which they call medium is more than enough for a main meal. It is freshly cooked and extremely tasty. There are no seats inside the restaurant although there are two tables with two chairs each outside to eat on the High Street - which is surprisingly pleasant. However, behind the restaurant perhaps a 250 yard walk away there are benches with a lovely view of hundreds of small open boats and some larger yachts moored in the estuary. Even in the middle of September this is warm and pleasant. This plaice can't be battered. Or should that be this place can't be bettered? Either way, enjoy.

I had read reviews about the Jolly Fryer so we thought we would give it a go. With fish freshly fried, crispy chips and very good mushy peas, you couldn't really ask for more. Significant portions, plenty of choice, quick and efficient service - the superlatives go on. We took our f'nc onto the Riverside. What a very real treat!! The server and the fryer were very friendly and in fact warned me about overordering, which I would have done. It was simply excrllent

I could smell the beef dripping in the air when we got out of the car and knew straight there was a good chippy nearby and I wasn't wrong. The chips were great and everyone concurred, the cod was the best and thickest piece I've had from a chippy since I don't know when, with nice big flakes. Portion choices are available according to you hunger levels... medium cod and chips £6.50 or smaller for a £1 less, it makes so much sense as I hate throwing food away, so this was just right for me... all cooked to order and we'll worth the wait... lovely staff too.

For a very small town we have no shortage of chip shops. Jolly Fryer being the newest.

Visited this Take Away on a Beautiful Evening in Burnham..my Partner had the Cod & Chips, The Batter was Golden & Crisp & the Cod was very White Flaky & Fresh & the Chips were Excellent. I had the Cod Roe & Chips & Battered Sausage all of which was Fab...Very friendly staff & helpful. All supplied at very good value for money..would highly recommend this take away & will definitely return.

At last a fish and chip shop where you can buy smaller portions. The cod bites are perfect. I can now buy just what I need and do not end up throwing half away. Delicious. Lovely friendly staff - always cheerful.

John spends hours removing the eye's from his potato's I think that's so they can't see he is a Man City supporter. The Fish and Chips are great just like they should be always busy when i visit so be prepared to wait but believe me it is worth it.

Wow the cod bites and chips are so good I will never buy my fish n chips anywhere else the batter on the fish is so crisp and light the fish it's self is excellent quality lovely and chunky and the chips are crisp outside perfect inside I wish they had an eat in restaurant as well I would definitely eat there thank you jolly frier

I was on holiday just myself and my dog, so getting food was a bit of an issue if I didn't want to eat in a dog friendly restaurant (she is nervous and can't be left) We were both tired after long walks and just wanted to get a take away and return to our caravan. I considered shouting from the entrance but a lovely chap came out wearing a staff shirt and I asked if I could order from outside. His response was 'of course you can sweet heart'. He asked what I wanted and went back in to order it for me. A friendly lady came out to confirm my order, take my payment and return my change, then after a short wait they brought out my order. The food was fabulous and freshly cooked, but the service was even more impressive. Thank you so much!

Hmmm! I thought I'd try this place out as it was a flying visit and eat in the car. Well, I first noticed the odd smell! Normally I can smell Fish n Chips but this didn't smell the same as expected. Both my Battered Sausage and chips tasted different. I was told soon after that they fry everything in Beef Drippings.

Very good fish and chips indeed. Friendly service, and always piping hot. I particularly like their fish bites and chips, which are great for the middle of the day when a lighter meal is more appropriate.

Always cooked fresh great batter. Best fish & chips I've had for a long time and big portions. (Too big for some). They even have a system for registering your phone so you can text your order and save the queues on busy times -Yes of course there are sometimes queues with the food so good.

Visited here on numerous occasions for lunches/dinners. Excellent service always, even in 30 degree heat the staff are smiling! The food is always excellent and never tastes of dirty chip fat! John is always happy, always starts a conversation. Overall 5* and the best chippy in the area! Keep it up guys, we love your food!

Visited here on a sunny Saturday afternoon, they have seating area outside. We had Cod and chips and I haven't had chips like these for a long time. The Cod was a good size and had trouble eating it all. You have to try the chips. Will definitely visit here again even a special visit just for the chips.

Every Thursday I go to Burnham on Crouch and fish and chips here is a must have, especially the fish bites. The fish is well cooked and the chips are brilliant, well recommended.

Best chips ever! Always busy with locals definitely a special little place!. Very easy to find. Great customer service and you can tell alot of effort has been put into the food. Fish I light and airy and very fresh.

I had Cod and chips. Although the fish itself was nice I did not like the batter left an after taste as if it was animal fat. Chips were very greasy and measly portioned. Won't be going back there are much better fish and chips elsewhere in the town.

Jolly John, Liz & staff always afford you a good laugh and friendly greeting/conversation whenever you call on them for some of their delicious food.

We regularly go to The Jolly Fryer when we are in Burnham on Crouch the fish and chips are always the same absolutely amazing the Cod is skinless and big and meaty my Husband said the haddock is the best he's ever tasted everything is cooked fresh to order but the short wait is worth it we thought it had an old fashioned taste then we read the sign it's all cooked in beef dripping John the owner is very friendly and obviously takes great pride in his fish and chips the price is very reasonable no the helpings are large I look forward to every visit usually once a fortnight

The meal was fantastic, although cooked in dripping, but it just added to the taste and made everything that little more crisp. The fish was big and my friend had the cod bites, she got 8 (I think) but they were humongous. I must say probably the best we have had for a long time. The queue was rather long when we arrive Friday evening just gone at dinner time but that is to be expected, but definitely worth the wait. Will be back again on my next trip

I read some good and bad reviews on a social media group and decided to try for myself. I ordered cod and chips. The fish was cooked fresh to order but the wait was worth it. The fish itself was without a doubt the best I have tasted and the chips were cooked in beef dripping and were outstanding. I can see why there are often queues outside the door and will definitely buy more takeaways from here again.

Fabulously fresh - best fish and chips since Cromer! Really nice proprietors. The food is all cooked while you wait with generous portions. The fish is white with no skin or bones (the proprietor skins and fillets it himself) and the batter is light and golden. Well worth a visit.
