Very disappointed. The menu states that everything is cooked fresh, yet our whole order arrived 5 mins after placing it. No way was it cooked fresh. Definitely batch cooked. The Volcano rice was tasteless and was like eating a mouthful of boiled rice. I'd heard such great things about this place, but I won't be bothering again.

Family meal to celebrate my son's birthday. Heard great things about Janet's and it didn't disappoint. Food was fantastic, service was great - even helping to take a birthday pic of the group, and for the quality and portions you get the price was very reasonable. Easy to see why it's so popular, and why it's advisable to book in advance. Will be coming back for more in the near future, no doubt.

Beautiful food, both in flavour and in looks. I had a Janet signature dish, recently added, tasting of coconut and aromatics. It was spicy but with a lot of flavours and this is the essence of Janet's., traditional ingredients and styles but cooked perfectly and with so many flavours. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either and it's extremely popular. Will definitely return.

Visited Janet’s today after trying to visit for the past few months. Was not disappointed at all! Beautiful cosy restaurant and instantly made to feel welcome. The food speaks for itself fresh, full of flavour and absolutely delicious. Thank you so much and will be back.

One of the best meals I’ve had amazing !

We had heard such wonderful things about Janet's. When we finally visited we were not as impressed by the food as much as we had imagined we would be. We had gyoza and bao for starters. The gyoza were very greasy and heavy, the bao bun was also on the heavy side but did have a nice taste to it. The cumin lamb main dish consisted of very small pieces of lamb, similar in consistency to the beef you have in Chinese takeaways, in a very strong cumin sauce, which lacked in complexity or depth in flavour - it just tasted like lamb smothered in cumin. The Chicken Redang dish was extremely rich. The meal was perfectly adequate. We enjoyed our time there. The staff were pleasant. The decor is fresh. However, we left feeling like we had possibly opted for the wrong dishes to really appreciated Janet's more authentic flavours. We will go back at some point to taste the bibimbap.

I've lived near Cardiff for 25 years-this is the best restaurant in Wales. The flavours were perfect. The staff are professional and the menu is authentic. We will be back and we will recommend the restaurant to our Instagram followers on renjapanesefood.

I'm really sad to leave a 2 star review as I really wanted to enjoy the meal as I heard such good things about Janets. I really appreciate the staff accomodating us at short notice; we called before arriving. Upon arrival nobody seemed to be aware of us calling. The starters; wonton and gyoza were quite bland however the beef bibimbap was delicious and the food arrived quickly. The experience felt rushed due to the limited time. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, almost sauna like. I had to go outside to cool down. If you are intolerant to heat, I would bring a fan and dress in light clothing. I also noticed staff in the kitchen touching hair and face which is pretty unhygienic. For the price of this meal for two people, £70, I was very disappointed. I'll stick to Wagamama next time :(

Disappointing experience. Our first visit and definitely it's our last one. Only one person takes the order, on the weekend was very busy, I had to constantly look for the service. The most frustrating thing was when we wanted to order more food, and she said there are another 4 tables that just arrived, and we can serve you again after we served them! Say Whaaat? So you have 4 tables that you haven't taken their orders but you can't take my order? That just donest make any sense. Unfortunately, we left feeling still hungry, and we had no option but to go into macdonalds for fast food as we left feeling still hungry. The Asian lady I believe was the owner who works in the kitchen was very rude. Overall experience VERY DISAPPOINTING. Will not return and waste my time and money there again and leave feeling hungry.

During our recent vacation from the US to Wales, we had the pleasure of dining at Janet’s and it truly exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, the experience was impeccable. Despite a fully booked schedule, Chef and staff graciously found a spot for us, going above and beyond to accommodate our reservation at the last minute—something we really appreciated, especially since we had heard such great things about this place. The food was nothing short of amazing. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients and incredible flavors that clearly reflected the chef’s skill and passion for the craft. The cumin lamb and honey chicken were both exemplary. Service was warm and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. The combination of fantastic food, great hospitality, and the chef’s personal touch made this dining experience one for the books. I’d highly recommend Janet’s to anyone visiting the area—it’s a true gem!

2nd visit. As good as the first. Very good authentic Chinese/Korean food selection. You need to like spicy food. Good atmosphere, the place was full so need to book. Friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly recommend and will return when next in Pontpridd.

I have been to Janet’s multiple times, and the food has been exceptional with each visit. I can especially recommend the gyozas, siu mai, Korean honey chicken, and the volcano fried rice. There is also a good variety for vegetarians. The portions are a good size in my opinion, and on my last visit, the prawn crackers, one dim sum and one main dish were plenty. One aspect I particularly like is that the food comes out when as and when ready (no standard starters or mains system), and so everything is fresh. This didn’t cause any delays with anyone’s food in any of my visits. I would say the prices are defintely suitable for the quality, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable with good service. It’s great to see Janet herself there on each visit, and the love and passion she has for her restaurant and her food. A great addition to Pontypridd, and well worth a special trip for those further away, although I’d definitely recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. I will continue to visist as often as possible!

Well worth the trip from Cardiff! Our friends live locally and have been raving about Janets, and we finally got the chance to visit yesterday. We ordered a few dim sum to share and a main each, which was a good quantity of food. The flavours were incredible - I have not had food that good in a long while! I had the biang biang noodles for my main and am still thinking about it the next day! It is clear that Janet takes great pride in her restaurant and the food she serves. Well worth a visit if you get the chance!!

I used to visit Janet’s when she was a small store in the market, and I was very excited to visit her newly-established restaurant. The food, as always, was beautifully cooked - fresh, flavoursome and very filling! I love the decor in the new restaurant too. I can happily recommend Janet’s, but it’s very very popular, so booking in advance is definitely advisable.

We very much enjoyed eating here as the food is freshly prepared and tasty and there's a lovely selection on the menu. The girls serving were really polite and efficient. My only gripe is the cost. I don't feel the portion sizes reflect this. I have edited my review as I wrongly stated about 20% being added on top of menu prices. I do hope portions become slightly bigger as I'd like to return.

Had 4 little spring rolls and a little dressing on the side although the were very nice it was not worth the price I spent over 40 pounds on three small dishes Korean honey chicken was lovely but again not the best quality for the money and a small amount no rice nothing just that

We ate here on Friday. We didn't book, just turned up and they were very accommodating and gave us a table for an hour. The staff are really friendly. The food is amazing, a small menu which is great, it means you're not spending ages selecting what you want. Korean Kimbap (v), Korean beef bibimpap, tofu fried noodles were lovely. I can't recommend this place enough.

It’s a gem of a restaurant if you enjoy Asian style cooking. I can thoroughly recommend the food here which has delightfully use of fragrant and nicely balanced spices. The menu is varied and it is good to see the kitchen staff at work preparing the dishes. However, there can be a tendency for mains and starters arriving at the same time despite everything being cooked at the time of asking, which could possibly be something to work on. The internal deco is pleasantly decorated with painted floral designs and seating is comfortable but it would be nice if there were some soft furnishings here and there on the walls or ceilings to dampen the sound when the venue is busy.

The tastiest food we’ve had out in a loooong time. You can tell that Janet puts in a lot of care and thought into creating the menu as well as the food. The atmosphere is beautiful on the inside and service was spectacular - especially the young (well not exactly young but you know what I mean) man in the red shirt and welsh dragon tattoo on his arm. Brilliant, couldn’t recommend more!

Booked an evening with the Wife, Sister-in-law and Mother-in-law and was really looking forward to this!! And it certainly did not disappoint! Food was exceptional (once we'd all decided what we were having 🤣), kitchen worked together in perfect harmony, we could see a lot of the food preparation from where we sat. The FoH girls were amazing, so polite and professional. Chinese is our favourite cuisine, and there were flavours here we'd certainly never had before and blew us away! By far the best Bibimbap I've ever eaten!! Keep it up girls, amazing place and highly recommend.

Less than a year ago I gave this place 5 stars and an excellent review but my visit on Tuesday night couldn't have been any more different...food and service were mediocre at best and it's an awful shame that the previously high standards have clearly not been maintained.

Outstanding....bibembap tasted like i was back in Seoul. Just a shame no kimchi or jasmine tea but those are very small quibbles for a most excellent lunch.

Went for a birthday meal with my wife and little girl, was very busy but food didn't take long. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious, we will definitely be back.

We had a short wait to be able to book for a day that suited, but boy was it worth it.. From being greeted with a smile and friendly faces the staff in the restaurant were great. When it came to the food, we started with the spring rolls, and the pork and prawn siu mai. The spring rolls were light and crispy and tasted as good as they looked. The siu mai were absolutely fabulous 👌 👏 highly recommend them. We then had the Korean honey chicken and the Korean volcano rice. Again both dishes were amazing. We can't wait to go back. Thank you Janet for the service and the fantastic food A+++++

Great food, we had pork gyozas, scallion pancakes and beef noodles and beef and pork belly noodles. Tasty meal, my only suggestion would be service could be improved on small things like being more attentive.

I can’t say enough good things about Janet’s Kitchen. Booking was easy online and we were shown straight to our table despite the restaurant being very busy. The menu is smaller than you might find in other restaurants but that’s because attention is obviously lavished on the dishes they have available. They were cooked to perfection and the subtle flavours worked so well together while also being a feast for the eyes. The service was excellent, treading the right balance between attentive and distant. Overall, it’s worth a trip and deserves all the accolades it’s been given.

Janet's in Pontypridd is a charming Chinese Korean restaurant nestled on the high street, perfect for a cosy meal. The food is tasty, with a variety of Korean dishes like bibimbap, cumin lamb , and pork dumplings that are both tasty and beautifully presented. The staff are friendly and provide lovely service, making you feel right at home. However, if you're particularly hungry, the portions might leave you wanting more. To feel fully satisfied, I recommend ordering some boiled rice, which is actually sushi rice and quite filling. Overall, it's a lovely spot with great food and a welcoming atmosphere.

This was our second visit to janets. After the first visit we thought we would hove it the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately we were wrong . This is just our opinion of Janet's remember. Had to remind staff we hadn't had our drinks , the starters were all over the shop and when they did come , after reminding staff , they were cold .The wrong wine was brought out , no eater was brought even though we asked for some. I had my starter and my main before my partners starter came out , no shape here at all . I appreciate Janet has been given recommendation for her food but fir service in her restaurant.....no . Her staff are un trained and rude, as they were sweeping up around us when we hadn't finished. They were also emptying bins through the front door.We left without finishing our drinks as I did ask the young waitress not to sweep while we were still there but she just carried on . Some of you may think this harsh but it's not just the food that makes you business grow , its the service you provide and I don't thing your there ..The reasin we were in there so long was because we had to wait so long for a drunk , I had to remind the second waitress after 30 mins and then it was wrong . You should never sweep floors around customers

Fantastic food, and a beautiful little restaurant. Service was polite, and knowledgeable of the menu. We had the wantons, smashed cucumber salad, bibimbap and honey chicken dishes. The sushi rice was really well cooked and seasoned. A good level of spice in all dishes, but not too much to put off those who are sensitive to it. The only detraction was that it was so busy, so we had to wait a little to be seated, But what can you say? It's rightfully popular right now. Wish I had more photos, but we were too excited to eat, maybe next time we'll snap some more.

Haven't been able to get to Janet's since lock down for lunch, loving the decor, seating and overall vibe. Everything is freshly cooked. Had a quick Korean cucumber salad, which had the right amount of heat for a hot afternoon, and not a stingy portion either considering it was a side. Would give 11 stars

Mix of Korean and Chinese food, incredibly flavourful and well-portioned. Highly recommend Janet’s homemade gyoza and the cucumber salad! Pontypridd is so lucky to have such an excellent chef cooking in town.

Those was my 2nd visit I wasn't keen the first time. There is no glasses of wine/prosecco only sold by the bottle. If you don't like chilli they won't take it out if you just want noodles with no beef they won't take the beef out. Everyone raves about this place, but I certainly won't be returning the food isn't out of this world eithier.

Was invited to Janet's by family for a Birthday meal. First visited definitely won't be the last. The food is all freshly cooked and full of flavours. We all had different mains with various starters and every dish was superb and a good Chilean Sav Blanc plus bottles of Welsh Cider. Can't wait to return and I will never eat another Chinese takeaway after this experience. Highly recommended you will definitely not be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious food, when I ate here I hadn't eaten all day so I kinda forgot to take pics but jeez the food was absolutely delicious, I had the bulgogi, my only qualm with the meal was that the side of rice seemed kinda mushy and overcooked, everything else was cooked to perfection.

very beautiful interior, it is a tad smaller than I thought but it is always packed in there which is a testament to the delicious food they serve! this is on one occasion I feel like a place deserves 5/5 stars. Food is very fresh and cooked to order. I cannot fault the food, my mother who is highly fussy also enjoyed it very much and can’t fault the place which is an amazing feat in itself! there is a ramp up to the restaurant which is very helpful for disabled individuals! But do be sure to book in advance!!

Visited on 16th March 2024. Table booked for 19.45. Was informed dishes freshly cooked. My husbands arrived at 2010. We asked at 2030 where my dimsum was. Told they are cooked fresh. My husbands main course came out @2035 and my dimsum came out at 2045. It was the pancake. I finished it and immediately had my main put in front of me. It was obvious they had forgotten my starter. But no apology. I had Malaysian laska. Tasted nice until I found lumps of chicken with slimy fat and also the inners from inside of chicken ie: liver. Whole experience put me off. Husbands food was pleasant. Food was expensive and disappointing. A can of 7up or Pepsi max was £2.50. You can buy a crate of 24 for £8. A big profit. Waitress was not very attentive or helpful. Would not go again. They also need to sort the menu. 4 pages on a clip board not very professional for 5 star restaurant. Have had a response and would like to add drinks are bought wholesale so would work out cheaper than supermarkets!! I stand correct on the menu. It is dimsum and then mains. Just be aware if you use Janet's.

First time visit at lunchtime. I have to say I was really impressed with the service and the food. I had the Korean vegetarian bibimbap with spring rolls and Asian honey. Really really tasty! Will definitely visit again.

Great in every way. This small restaurant specialises in Northern Chinese and South Korean food. Quality cannot be faulted and the serving staff are lovely.

Really lovely fresh food and lots of veggie and vegan options, but let down by the slow service. We weren’t offered a drink for over half an hour, we didn’t receive one of the items we ordered and we were abruptly asked to leave 30 minutes before closing time. Tables were very close together.
