My electric was off in the storm so what better way to eat than a sit down meal. I have been a few times. The staff are fine and a previous comment about a rude male worker is not taking into account cultural differences. I have come across a few Chinese males who seem rude but actually that is never their intention. They are just super efficient. I choose the two course evenings meal deal at just £12.00 a bargain. Slight disappointment that there was no English dish included in it as a fancied a chicken supper meal As a starter the salted chilli wings were actually fabulous garnished with strong lightly wok fried onions. I choose the honey chilli beef, otherwise known as shredded. There was a lot of sauce and chilli peppers and onions which made it a little unappealing and too spicy. Fried rice was ok. The lady serving was a typical Newry person rough and ready but friendly and attentive. For the price Monday to Friday before 8 o'clock meal deal is grand. Will be back.

Could not fault food extremely tasty and authentic. We all would go back for the food but if you really want a 5 star business please get rid of the extremely rude and ignorant man on front of house. Firstly he didnt even greet us walking in to the restaurant. He slapped the menus down. Came over and said “what do you want to eat” not even a “how are you today” nothing. Next he proceeded to bring the food out planking it on the table and walking away. Not ONCE did he come over and ask if we needed anything or was everything alright. We were absolutely appalled. A friendly local man came in to order his Chinese and asked the man what would he recommend. His reply “don’t know” and not even making conversation to the kind man. We got up to pay he took the money off us and not even a thank you or have a nice evening. For this I have given a star rating of 3. I’m quite sad because the food was absolutely outstanding I could not fault it but PLEASE GET RID OF FRONT OF HOUSE. We would come back otherwise.

We arrived to a very clean, warm and welcoming restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly waitress. The food was tasty, well prepared and well presented. The waitress (Nicola) was smiley, well mannered and very helpful. Couldn’t fault the restaurant at all, 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️, will definitely be back

They have a new special menu from 4pm to 8pm at £12.00 and as a fish supper now costs up to a tenner it is a no brainer to come here. The menu is basic but has some Thai dishes. I had hot and sour soup for starters. It comes very hot temperature and spicy hot flavour. You have to wait until it cools down to eat it. It had chicken and some small pieces of squid with mixed veg. And was not too bad. The main of Thai red curry beef disappointed. It lacked depth of flavour and sweetness. The beef was too thickly sliced and chewy. Boiled rice portion is small. I like a coffee after my meal, only to be told they don't do coffee anymore How ridiculous. The Latvian lady serving whilst being friendly was a bit over bearing and opinionated. So although it is well priced my choice of main disappointed and no coffee is a big no no. No heating in the place also. But I recommend it for value.

Last time after I wrote review,I was very sick after eating prawns. I got the special two course for £13.95 I think it was. Peking ribs were tasty,if pnly two of them. I had enquired if curry was breast of chicken, just in case. It was and nice bite sized chunks with plenty of onion and some peas in a steaming hot curry sauce. Very satisfying. So I recommend it on this meal. Pleasant staff and toilets cleaned up,though no paper towels. Coffee came with biscuits which was nice. During day it is a cafe doing cafe grub.

Ok I was here when it was just Humming so it appears to have a change of name. I wasn’t impressed with the food first time and a year or two had gone by so I thought I’d give it another chance for a takeaway meal. I hadn’t realised it had changed name until I was inside and I was really impressed to find that their new menu included early morning Irish breakfasts, Italian coffees and still a Chinese at lunch and evening times. This is certainly a first for me and good for them. It’s likely needs must as times are tough for many businesses and undoubtedly things will get much more difficult. So it was a lemon chicken and boiled rice for me (£6.80). If it’s done right it can be very good and it was fairly good here - with the chicken breast flattened, seasoned, dipped in a light batter and fried so it’s not pre prepared. It needs to be eaten quickly as the batter goes soft quite quickly. The batter is thin so usually it’s a 90% chicken dish. I enjoyed the meal. It’s once in a blue moon for me. It’s cheap food and simple to do well. The lemon sauce was also simple: Robinson’s lemon barley water, diluted, boiled and thickened with potato starch and a few slices of fresh lemon tossed in at the end. Orange chicken is made similarly with orange barley water and sliced orange. Chinese restaurants do a lot of advance preparation to allow them to serve meals super fast: sweet & sour, flour based curry, flour based gravy, Peking with fried and boiled rice kept warm in steamers. Pre battered chicken pieces are used for sweet & sour, salted chilli, sweet chilli but not usually lemon chicken as the batter is different. The pre battered chicken can be up to and over 50% batter that could literally sit in a sauce for hours and not become limp or soft. I am not impressed by most Chinese takeaways in town and none do a decent Peking sauce or sweet & sour as they make them so cheaply hit the prices are now high for cheap food. Black bean too is now poor tasting when it should be punchy:deeply flavoured. Shredded ginger was an essential of black bean but it’s not used any more even though only a little is needed. I had also noticed that many Chinese takeaways in town had started using the pre battered ‘hard’ chicken pieces for lemon chicken and for me it’s unacceptable as it’s lazy and it’s not a proper lemon chicken.

I was expecting something pretty ordinary as there are so few good quality restaurants in Newry. Was really surprised, therefore, to be treated to one of the best Chinese takeaway meals I have had. I don’t tend to write reviews; however, as it had so few reviews on TripAdviser I thought I should write something. This restaurant deserves to do well. If you are looking for good food, try it out.

While since I been here. This time I got a hot and sour soup starter. Very big bowl of steaming hot and very spicy soup. Ruined my taste buds but my fault. I had peking style prawns with boiled rice. A good portion and it was okay. I then had a diet coke and they gave me a coffee on the house. At £18.00 it was ok. It is worth a try.

The food is very tasty at this place; the service was also very good. It could be a bit more cosy I guess as there are no dressings on the bare windows which make it a bit less homely. All round the most important things are good it just needs a little tlc.

Sorry but this place falls well short of three star; it’s really just poor quality take out food put on plates rather than into containers and it’s without the finesse needed to be a serious restaurant. It’s a real pity as the city needs a fine Chinese restaurant. The starters were sort of goodish but instead of an intensely flavoured peanut sauce, with the satay chicken starter, it was more a spiced peanut oil from a jar. I had the salted chilli ribs and these were probably the best of the dishes we had. Our mains once again had no finesse. I had the Kung Po chicken and it was very poor. I really didn’t want to eat it as it even looked grim and tasted grim too. Kung Po which is claimed to be Chairman Mao’s favourite dish, is meant to be a velvety sauce, barely no liquid, with the intensely flavoured sauce coating the chicken; instead it was watery, with little discernible taste. I’ve had fantastic Kung Po dishes but I can’t count this place as what I got was no more Kung Po than I am an astronaut. It bordered on unpleasant. It’s easier to say what wasn’t in the dish that should have been: so it had no Sichuan pepper, no Chinese wine nor black vinegar, no dark soy, no hoisin, in other words absolutely nothing of big flavour that makes it anything close to Kung Po - the menu should read boiled chicken in lukewarm, slightly sweet water. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken dish - this was a fair take away dish but again no refinement-the sauce was cloying, it’s consistency was nearer that of a soft set jam and unbalanced; more vinegar than sugar. The fried rice too was poor takeaway quality, doused in cheap chemically made soy sauce. They offered a two and three course menu with cake being the dessert. No thanks folks. Finally the set menu has no prawn main offered - not even at an up-charge. I wish them well I really do but it’s not for me. I think they’ll have to up their game as a restaurant. If I want poor quality takeaway Chinese food I’m spoiled for choice in this city but it’s half the price to take home rather than sitting in here. Finally when I saw the name Humming I thought Bird would be the next part but it’s Humming. I wonder if they know that we North Irish use this word to describe something that stinks or is rotten - who am I to argue.

Went there a few weeks ago and the food was bad. Duck pancakes were dry and unedible. Some good Chinese spots in Newry but this is not one I'd recommend.
