Hot Wok in Babergh

Ordered takeaway at 18.30 told an hour and food finally turned up at 20.40 . Phoned twice chasing it and rude staff saying it only a bit late . Bloody joke first and last time ordering from them . Food was cold and had to reheat as well .

Absolutely discussed with this place worst meal ever never going again spent £55 on dinner for my family rang up to complain and was offered 20% discount on my next order don't think so this place needs closing down !!!

The food was delicious and there was no problem in catering for our vegan guest. The customer service was first class, both in terms of helpfulness over the phone and speed of cooking. Would definitely recommend!

Disappointing. Had one from here a month or so ago and it was OK but tonight’s was to be fair - not good. Salt and Pepper Chicken was awful. Totally over fried. The beef dish was not great, prawn dish was fine, sweet and sour chicken was average. The prawn crackers had a funny biscuit taste. Disappointing as I was in the mood for a good one and this did not.

Decided to get a takeaway this evening as a family treat, we chose on hot wok just for a change as we were in the area. We waited for the food to be cooked fresh but by the time we got home ( 15 minutes away) it was cold. Very small portions compared to our usual takeaway and just taste less, all I could taste was the oil it was cooked in. Meat just didn’t taste of anything and lamb dish was just fatty and chewy! Very disappointed and won’t be returning. Such a shame.

Amazing food tonight. Capital ribs like from the Flintstones. Very tender and tasty. Food hot and well within delivery time. !! xx

Couldn’t figure out why we could smell cigarettes as neither of us smoke, it was the chicken chow mein! Which my son had also started to eat! Luckily my son stopped eating it as he said it “tasted weird”. It absolutely stunk of nicotine/tobacco and I can still taste it even after only having a couple of bites from it! Never ordering from here again. Cannot believe it!

I used this Chinese for a delivery as its the only one to deliver to my address. My order took well over an hour to arrive, to find that what I received was not what I ordered, ontop of that it was leaking chilli sauce everywhere and the crispy duck was all bone and no meat. I phoned to make a complaint and was told it was my fault. The owner was aggressive and horrible would never use this again. Disgusting service and food.

I'd like to think I was a semi regular customer. Nope !!!! just wah you wahhnt ? ok? 27.59 1 hr. Put some love in it ? cant you? xx

I have just started using this take away for Chinese food as it was recommended to me,, the food is really good and always hot when it arrives.

Phoned in a order for delivery. God knows where they found the member of staff who took the order, but he clearly lacked basic communication skills. Mumbled the whole time, could barely hear him, didn’t give me an eta - and came across as rude and disinterested. No please, no thank you, in fact I’ve had better conversations with the door in my bedroom! Let’s hope the food is gonna be nice at least.

Large portions of tasteless dishes. Big order so had a variety, black bean, cripspy chilli, salted squid, dumplings etc. All tasted the same, bland and greasy. Won't be ordering from again.

Not heard much about the quality of food from this place, and could not find many recent reviews, so I thought I would write one following a home delivery takeaway. My two sons had the pleasure of taste testing this place and they give the plain chow mien a big thumbs up! They enjoyed the prawn balls and Kung Po chicken also....they have lived to tell the tale with no adverse side effects! It is more expensive than other similar establishments. Would most likely use again...and we are particular about quality, taste, etc. We ordered the delivery for a certain time and it turned up right on time! Thankyou.

Have heard of some bad reviews about Hot Wok but have always had a good meal. Portions are bigger than other Chinese’s in town and reasonable price. Always find them delicious. Whenever me and my partner have a Chinese Hot Wok is normally where we go!!

Food arrived and the order was wrong as it was missing items. We phoned and were told they would now send them out but would be another half hour. We did want to have to heat up our food once we received the missing items so asked them to either redo the whole and correct order and they could collect the wrong one when they delivered it or get their driver to come and collect the wrong order and give us a refund. At this point the person on the phone said he could not do that. He then began speaking to someone else and the phone was hung up on us. We called back and spoke to the manager and our order is being redone so now have another wait. We placed our original order an hour and forty five minutes ago!!!! Awful service they obviously can't cope on a busy Saturday evening!!!!

Worst Chinese in sudbury, to much salt and far to expensive for very poor food, I think it’s under new ownership so don’t look like it’s going to get any better will not be returning , looks like I will be going elsewhere with my money and i do like my Chinese .

Well after Hot wok being closed for a few weeks I thought I’d give it ago... big mistake!!!

I am a hot wok regular but it has been closed most of January and I went to youngs instead big mistake ordered several dishes they all tasted and looked the same ,never again ! Hot wok open again now usual good service, six dishes ordered six flavours perfect what's not to like .

Ordered from here for the first time, delivered within 20 minutes (on a Friday night) and everything was fresh and delicious, will definitely order again.

It's a year since our last take away from Hot Wok so we thought we would give it another chance. What a mistake that was. The food was even worse than last time. Spring rolls were just about palatable because of the sauce. The sweet and sour ribs could not be chewed. They were hard and tough like they had been overcooked or cooked twice. The sesame prawn toast was the same and the rice was like eating hard little balls. Obviously it had been reheated until dehydrated. £34 in the bin and my wife and I are absolutely disgusted. Never again will we use Hot Wok.

my order was taken by a very clipped way. i had ordered early and the meal was on time. capital spare rib were to die for. all food was good. i will order again.

One of the only chineses I have found that consistently gives me good food. Would recommend giving this one a go.

Worst Chinese food we have ever eaten, salty greasy swimming in oil, rice was dry and bland. Fit for the bin only it seems. Nothing was nice 😩

A truly wonderful take away chinese. The food was hot and crisp, excellent service on the phone and by the two delivery drivers! Worth a visit.

Queríamos un chino entregado a Leavenheath con un menú en línea, Wok caliente apareció en la búsqueda en línea. Lectura dudosa comentarios negativos, pero estábamos cansados y hambrientos. Absolutamente nada malo con nuestra orden. Entregado a marco de tiempo el viernes por la noche. Empanada crujiente de pollo dulce y amargo, agradable en brochetas de pollo, las especias un montón de sobras como porciones eran abundantes. Pruébalo, sin duda utilizar de nuevo!

Hemos usado el wok caliente durante años y en el pasado han sido muy satisfechos con la comida.

Siempre ha sido rápido a entregar comidas deliciosas, muy contentos con el servicio en general. Recientemente cambiamos de otra comida para llevar local china, generalmente prefieren la manera en que cocinar cosas como Chow Meins (más de salsa que otros). Lo recomiendo.

Not terrible but not amazing either. The delivery can take quite a while sometimes depending what time and day it is. Sometimes the food can be very salty especially the curry! But also it can be very tasty depending on how fresh the ingredients are. Hot wok can be a lot better if it's food was more consistent and fresh. The staff are normally helpful and friendly.

Hot wok offered great portion size but the chow mein was very greasy and the rice very dry. We had home delivery and they were pretty quick and they give you fortune cookies too :)

Not sure why Hot Wok has so many negative reviews, maybe it was under previous ownership or something? We've had takeaway from here lots of times over the last 6 months or so and have absolutely no complaints. Delicious food that is always hot and cooked quickly. Had other Chinese takeaways in Sudbury and this is definitely the best in town.

We ordered Chinese from Hot Wok a couple of weeks ago, we were put off by the bad reviews for a long time. However, as our usual place doesn't deliver and we had car trouble we decided to give Hot Wok a go as a good friend always sings their praises. Our meal was good with very generous portion sizes, we were very satisfied with our order overall and will definitely use them again when we want a home delivery. The chili beef was good, although not spicy enough for our tastes, we like our food with a big kick! I have rated it 4/5 as I did think they had bulked one of the dishes up with onion, but as I've said, the portions were big anyway and there were generally plenty of premium ingredients in the other dishes. The chicken balls were a bit greasy, not as fluffy as the ones we get from our favourite restaurant but they tasted good and we ate them all! It was a good meal, and was very reasonably priced. I noticed they have started doing Thai and Japanese food in addition to standard Chinese takeaway fare and I would like to try them. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality over all and think their low rating may be unfair. Its horrible to spend money on a takeaway dinner and receive one that is really poor quality, I have had much, much worse takeaways from Sudbury establishments and certainly felt that we had gotten our moneys worth and look forward to using them again.

We have used Hot Wok quite a few times over the years, but have had some meals lately that have not been great. The food has appeared bland and over salty recently and we are not sure if we will return. Evenings can be very slow for their delivery service and not great for an impromptu decision to have a Chinese meal :-(

I've started ordering my Chinese from here rather than any other local restaurants. Has to be said I nearly didn't because of the reviews on trip advisor but I can say after about 4 or 5 orders in the last 6 months I've not had a bad one yet, easily best Chinese locally. Would highly recommend. Has also delivered to me nearly 8 miles away as well which is a huge plus as NOONE delivers takeaway out as far as me.

I ordered a take away from Hot Wok last week. The staff were friendly and helpful - I was delayed picking the meal up and they kept it warm for me - and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced menu and good sized portions.I liked the fact that the kitchens are open plan so you can watch food being prepared: all clean and tidy. We will definitely go to Hot Wok again.So, what about the negative reviews others have left on Tripadvisor. May I suggest you take note of the (on the whole) extremely small number of reviews these review writers have written for Tripadvisor. Hmmm. Makes you wonder who these people are! I`m guessing it`s someone trying to sabotage this business.

Always tastes good, always on time, this is the only Chinese take away we use in the area - the Singapore chowmein is amazing

We always buy our Chinese takeaway here, and always find it very tasty. No problems at all. Not all the questions asked by Tripadvisor apply as this is purely a takeaway. Will alter dishes to your taste - they make us broccoli in black bean sauce.

I have always ordered from Hot Wok, having tried pretty much every Chinese Takeway in Sudbury. In all honesty, I've never had a bad one, deliveries are quick, the quality of the food has always been very good, so I really have no idea why others are having such a bad experience. Maybe they don't like their face! I can only go on my own experience and I've eaten enough here to know it's my preferred choice in town, very tasty. I just hope I don't live to regret this review one day!

I completely agree with the rest of these reviews, terrible customer service, got the order wrong and it was greasy and hard to chew.New management desperately needed.

Ordered a Chinese they got the order wrong I phoned them to request another of my order they said they would replace be 10-20 minutes 40 minutes later I got a knock on the door they had replaced my order with the wrong thing again!!! So I phoned them back and they said they would bring up the right order with a refund I then got a knock on the door with the right order and 40p???!!!! Don't even know what they are on!!!!!!

Ordered food from the Hot Wok in Sudbury tonight, and it was probably the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. EVER. The Cantonese sweet and sour dipping sauce was literally jelly. It was sweet, almost strawberry flavour. And bright, bright orange. And solid. It wobbled.My chicken in satay sauce had pools of fat floating on the top, and tasted of nothing other than chilli. No other flavour. I had no idea something could be bland AND spicy at the same time.The special fried rice has the same texture as Uncle Ben's microwave stuff. It tasted of cardboard.Even the crispy seaweed was inedible - it tasted like stale cooking fat.Never. Ever. Again.

Food was very over cooked and greasy. Seafood like bulets noodles all stuck together and tasted like it had been cooked in old dirty oil and pans. Avoid at all costs.

Previous reviewers have commented on the customer service. Admittedly, the experience we received was on New Years Eve so the takeaway was busy. We both called to find the line engaged then when we got through, the phone was put on the desk then we were cut off after 10 minutes.We walked to the takeaway and placed our order and was advised it would be 20 minutes so we went to the nearest pub. Half an hour later we returned to find the order was not ready so another 15 minutes passed before the meal was ready.Clearly they were very busy but the actual systems in place to manage the orders were non existent which meant that orders appeared to be lost. Interestingly, whilst we had problems getting through to order, others didn't and were advised varying delivery times.I know business can be tough and there is a need to collect as much money as possble but really investment needs to be put into the systems and perhaps say no to deliveries on busy times like New Years Eve. Joining a scheme like J**t E*t or similar might help.The menu descriptions are a bit hit and miss which sometimes happen in translation!I have to say that the food was delicious- the grilled dumplings were excellent and the crispy beef was good as was the Singapore style rice which I hadn't experienced before. Portion sizes were good

I'll start by saying I really don't understand all of the negative reviews this place has had! We've ordered from here many times over the last year and have always been pleased with the quality of the food. When we choose delivery, our food has always arrived sooner than expected (most recently, we were told it'd be 45 minutes to an hour, and it arrived after just 25 minutes).They've always been polite and friendly when we've phoned, and helpful when asked questions about the food.One negative I will mention (which may explain the problems one earlier reviewer had when trying to phone) is that when I went to collect our food one time, I noticed that they took the phone off the hook for a while - I assume that's because they were stupidly busy that night.

Very rude on the phone whilst taking the order. Told it would take 45mins to an hour. After 1 hour and a half I tried to ring over 10 times and no answer. I drove their after defrosting my car so nearly 2 hours have now elapsed. They had still not sent my order out so I asked for a refund which they done but no apologies nor sympathy. Very bad customer service and all round service.

I have used this company for years. Now I wait for 2 hours for a take away. When I complain he tells me I'm banned !! Do not order from these people - terrible service - worst take away award 2014

I ask if there squid was fresh they told me it was lies couldnt eat it had to put in bin. i phoned them to complain i got told we didnt poison you so why you complain 32 quid in the bin

Poor quality food. Tastes very artificial and not really edible. Spent £30 and threw it all in the bin.
