Hooked At 31 in Pembrokeshire

Maybe I came on a bad day for them but the haddock and chips were simply average. The fish had no flavor whatsoever and may have been frozen and not fresh.

An excellent traditional chippy located in a beautiful part of Wales. The shop is well-presented in the heart of Fishguard, and although parking can be a bit challenging, there's a lovely harbour in Lower Town, less than a mile away, where you're likely to find parking and can enjoy your meal. The staff were well-dressed, polite, and friendly. The shop was clean and tidy, and also offered what appeared to be a nice selection of ice cream, making it easy to grab dessert without detracting from the great traditional chippy fare. The haddock was generously sized, served in a deliciously crispy batter with excellent chips and a slice of lemon. The freshly battered mushrooms were encased in a light batter and paired with garlic mayonnaise. The cheese and onion fritter, known as a cheese savoury in many areas, was large and perfectly crispy. What’s better than a chip shop? A chip shop that does breakfast? A chip shop that does breakfast and homemade waffles? A chip shop that does breakfast, makes homemade waffles and sells ice cream made on the premises. This place is amazing……if you are local make a visit! You won’t regret it.

The cod was good, the chips not so good, the fishcake tasted of mashed potato. Perhaps they are too busy.

After arriving at Fishguard I quickly looked up where to go for fish and chips and read some reviews. Hooked @31 came up. Now in the area there are some strong scores so I was not sold by the rating and thought I'd do a "footfall" test first. This is to sit outside and see how many people go in and out. Well people were like ants. Shooting in and shooting out. So I went in and ordered 2 fish boxes, one with Cod and one with Haddock. I also ordered the cheese and onion fritter. Now they came with mushy peas (you could have chosen something else), tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon. We drove down to Fishguard dock to eat them which was about 4 mins away. The food is amazing and well worth the reviews. The fish is perfectly battered and the chips were amazing. The fish was so fresh and flavoursome and the portion size was just right. It's one of the best I've had so I would recommend it.

Having walked past this chippy every day, I thought I'd try it as we had unexpected visitors and it was a bit late to cook (my excuse and I'm sticking to it) We had cod n chips, served with a slice of lemon and home made tartare sauce. The sauce, wow, it elevated the fish n chips and they were delicious to start with. Served in a cardboard box, the portions were generous, the cost was both reasonable and fair especially as it was all cooked fresh to order. The fish was amazing, very moist. the batter was just right, not too thick/thin and complimented the thick piece of perfectly cooked fish inside. Chips tasted pretty good too, golden colour with a hint of a crisp outside with fluffy inside. There was a small queue when I arrived and apparently that's the norm as the shop cooks everything to order so nothing is left under the counter lights to be served dry! They have a great range of fresh fish options, catch of the day being one of them, cant wait to try the hake! Chicken nuggets are proper pieces of chicken breast battered in their own batter in store, not the usual cheap frozen efforts that are passed off as nuggets. A great menu - the best fish and chip shop I've ever seen or used, and so said my unexpected guests! I have since discovered they do have a website (I'm a bit of a techno phobe, so wont be using it myself) You can order online and collect at a time to suit you. My friends said they would definitely recommend doing that as this place gets very busy and after tasting the food, it's easy to see why. Great food, great prices, happy , helpful staff. This is definitely going to be my local chippy! :0)

Amazing fish and chips, with every Saturday GLUTEN FREE special. Staff is incredibly nice, welcoming and knowledgeable about all their products. Fish is great, haddock and MSc certified Cod (even if I rather not eat cod as the stock is really low, something certification can't change as of now). Fish batter both regular and gluten free were super crisp and light, with a great flavor. Onion rigs were superb and very fresh. They also have ice-cream but haven't tried it. Looks great though. Get ur fish and walk 100m to the view point with the cannons, where there are benches and tables to eat your fish and chips with a view. All in all amazing experience, especially in a winter sunny day. Ps. Across the road you can buy a beer, cider or a locally roasted hot coffee at the "gourmet pig" to compete the meal or before the drive back home.

I'm not a fish person, but my family is, so we went here. I ordered the chicken nuggets, and I was most pleasantly surprised. Unlike other fish&chips shops, these were actually chicken breast pieces battered - and not that cardboard tasted mixed chicken mash that other places serve. The chips were well cooked and - probably for the first time as well - not oversalted. I've been told by family that the fish was excellent too.

The fish and chips were excellent and the homemade fishcake was one of the best I've ever had! They were unexpectedly short staffed that evening, so click and collect orders were running a tiny bit late, however the staff were very apologetic and despite their workload, they were still friendly and helpful.

Fair fish, poor chips and service. Chips were cold by the time we got them home a couple of hundred yards away - I wonder if they were mouldering in the warming box too long, otherwise the fryer has a knack of cooking stale chips. The fish was ok but the whole meal didn't have the feel of seaside fish and chips and given the location I assumed it would taste fresher. Being deaf I didn't appreciate the server babbling away through a mask. I asked them to remove it which they did only to say they needed to keep it on and they put it back on straight away. On holiday so won't be back but wouldn't return if we were staying longer either. Perhaps being the only chippie in town means they don't have to try too hard.

Popped in for an ice cream, friendly staff and the fish and chips smelt delicious whilst we waited. Ice cream had a good range of flavours available and was lovely.

I am a local resident who just has a weekly order but the service I get is incredible. Polite Smiley and above all everyone working there is friendly and their customer care is exceptional. Oh and the fish and chips are amazing too.

Everything we had was really tasty but the fish was exceptional.

Good quality. Portion of cod for half portion for adults was the same size as the kids portion which was a bit unexpected and disappointing. Mushy peas excellent.

We ordered 2 fish and chip dinners. They were the best fish and chips we have had in Wales! On boxing them up one of the fishes snapped and they gave us extra sauce! Nice that they take so much pride in the dishes they serve! The fish was cooked perfectly, and the batter was not too thick or too thin! Chips tasted great too. Perfectly seasoned peas and the tartare sauce, yum! Cannot fault it. They had a great range of fresh fish options, great menu - the best fish and chip shop u I've seen. We stopped in on a Saturday night in February and there was a little queue. They have a website and you can order online and collect at a time - would definitely recommend doing that, I imagine this place gets very busy!

Chips are great but my piece of fish was really thin - so what I got was mostly batter with a small overcooked bit of fish in the middle. Other family members were satisfied with their fish. I had the chicken pie later in the week, but that was rather devoid of chicken.

Lovely food. Perfect Fish and chips. Homemade coleslaw was beautiful. I would recommend. Giving 4 stars as it is very, very pricey compared to some other chippy's in the area, but I guess the quality of the food reflects in the price.

Great fish and chips , ordered on line via their app where you can pick a time to collect your meal. All organised and paid for by nine on the Saturday morning. You can even specify if you want salt and vinegar, and a slice of lemon!! Fish and chips also come with a pot of mushy peas really great value. Batter not too thick and served with proper chips!! It certainly lives up to its reputation. Also serves ice cream but never got round to that!! If in Fishguard again will certainly visit again. Highly recommend.

On holiday and googled nearest fish and chips. One commented on how good the food was. I think they must have meant the ice cream as the fish and chips was awful. Nice fish but soggy batter and the chips had no taste. Good job we won't need to buy from there again.

Good range of food at reasonable prices. Quality chips. Homemade coleslaw and tartare sauce are very good. Quality ice-cream in some exotic flavours. They're not open every day, so check before going there to order. You could use their online ordering service.

As far as fish and chips go, this place is good. Ordering online was easy and quick. The Hake, Cod and the panko prawns were all delicious. Would've liked more vinegar on my chips, but such is life.

Lovely fish and chips and ice cream

We collected our pre ordered meal tonight and to be honest it was a huge disappointment. The chips were clammy, mushy and not tasty at all. I gave up on them having only eaten less than half of them. I don’t know if this problem is only because they weren’t freshly cooked but have been kept warm a long while waiting for our arrival.

Amazing small fish and chips shop in Fishguard.. You can book online and collect or order in shop, definitely recommend getting the fried prawns as well.. We got a takeaway and went to the Fishguard Quay and had it at a bench!

Excellent quality. The battered cod was really lovely and fresh - the best we've tasted in a long time. The fishcakes were nice. The spicy chicken burger was great and actually had a bit of a kick to it! The setup was very efficient with an ordering station that allowed people to socially distance outside rather than queuing inside the shop. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting.

Amazing! One of the highlights of our time in Fishguard. Great quality food at a good price. The prawn starter is delicious and the scampi amazing. My daughter always has the child portion fish and chips which is plenty. The ice cream is also so good! Well worth a visit if you’re in the area!!

One of the top 10 fish and chip shops in the country ! And number two in Wales. Expectations were high. The batter was lovely thin and crispy and served with a slice of lemon. Very good. The chips were a little over done. Good portions but not amazing. You can click and collect and also self serve order too. What chippy let’s you do that. Sausage was good too, locally sourced but expensive.
